    It’s a keeper! Have it set up maybe and have bridge set up or give it a go yourself and see if the choking ceases. I think it’s wonderful. Sometimes you need a spice in the cupboard to pull out every now and again to add to a recipe.

      Yes! An original Coral can go for 4 or $5,000 these days. Even the Jerry Jones reissues have more than doubled in price and stuff like the Rogue and other less expensive models, used to go for one or $200... They are going for the price I originally paid for my Jerry Jones.

    So glad they finally reissued it. I asked if they would at Namm last year and they hinted at it, but it wasn’t until a little over a month ago that they first posted it on their site and on thomann. Still no official announcement yet, not are there any sellers of it in the US yet

    • @DarrenLockMusic

      Darren Lock nah, I contacted thomann about it and they confirmed these are brand new for 2020. They’re impossible to get other than from thomann currently because they haven’t been officially released (or even announced technically) yet. When they reissued the baby sitar a few years ago it was the same way- thomann was apparently selling them for 4-5 months before anyone else was allowed to start listing them

      I remember when the Rogues first came out. I'm pretty sure originally they went for $100. I know I almost bought one for $200 later on. Now they are going for at least as much as I paid for my original Jerry Jones reissues, that are much higher quality. And the Jerry Jones have more than doubled. The old Coral model can go for up to $5,000 these days.

    1:20 - It's a hollow body, masonite top and back just like most Danelectro guitars have.
    I never thought about it until now, but the red crackle finish reminds me of molten lava flowing from a volcano. I've got a thing for white guitars and I would have much preferred the white model by Coral or Danelectro, if they would have had the option.

    • @DarrenLockMusic
      @DarrenLockMusic  4 года назад +3

      There’s very little adjustment you can make to it due to the way the Gotoh buzz bridge works. There’s a “sweet spot” that you have to hit otherwise it sounds like a regular guitar because the strings don’t rattle against the buzz bridge if it is too high/low. 🙄

      They are tens. I have a dozen Jerry Jones electric guitars in different alternative tunings. So I tune my sympathetic strings to the scale to match the tuning. So, sometimes I put a bit heavier string on the lower notes and eights or nines on the higher notes.

    Those sympathetic strings make your Snark tuner go nuts (useless) even when the volume is all the way down. You'll want to experiment with different modes and tunings.. I've got a 1968 Danelectro Vincent Bell Coral Sitar. IMO opinion they are kind of useless unless you want start exploring new ways of playing and have an interest in Eastern music, which I do. If you let it, it can take you new places.
    They approximate a sitar sound when playing in the darker modes. But blues scales and such sound silly. It's a good go-to tool in a studio but don't bring it to a jam session. Like a 12 string, it's got it's own place. But I'm really glad I bought it.
