The original sitar is considered as the Gift of the gods in India.. and seeing its electric version is really flattering...
@R&N S then you might enjoy the indian Shastri Sangeet..
Depeche Mode on a sitar. You never cease to amaze me Lemmo. AWESOME!!!
Lemmo that was some playing. In the late 70’s maybe even 70’s I saw Ravi Shankar he played in the Town hall in my small town because one of the teachers in the school was related to him , his uncle. I was surprised Ravi said ‘There will be no smoking during the performance’ while his incense permeates the hall
localguy8 Incense is a heck of a lot nicer smelling than cheap tobacco.
@@joermnycor cheap marijuana
Last Train Home is what made me look up more information about this guitar, what a piece
RIP Brian Jones, GEORGE Harrison, Ravi Shankar the three are in heaven jamming with sitars..
Don’t forget Lolly Vegas of Redbone!!! 😄
Not to mention the many 60s and early 70s R'n'B and Soul artists who made heavy use of this instrument!
Beautiful Personal Jesus cover man. Lovely

This suits Lemmo SOO perfectly! I've seen other demos of these, but i think this is a match made in heaven.
One of the BEST "Weird Ass Wednesdays" EVER!!
Denny Dias sitar solo on "do it again"
Absolute genius!
60s classic "Band of Gold" is just one of many hits that used this instrument.
The song was Wherever I May Roam, Lemmo.. LOL
What a cool instrument, Vinnie Bell was a genius, he designed a left handed one for Jimi Hendrix , RIP Jimi and Vinnie...
Vinnie Bell also designed the first electric 12-string on the market, the Danelectro Bellzouki, in the early ‘60s, beating Rickenbacker by several years. Danelectro didn’t promote it as a 12-string, although it was-I remember the catalog description in 1962 read, “evokes the mystery of remote times and places.” Huh? By the time the Rickenbacker 360-12 came out in 1964, most of us had figured out that it was an electric 12-string. The rhythm guitarist of the Count V (Psychotic Reaction) used one.
That last song is fantastic! The Coral Sitar made it's name for us 60's folk primarily on "Hooked On A Feelin'" by B.J. Thomas and "Cry Like A Baby" by The Box Tops. Great review!
The last original song was so cool
Check out stylistics payback is a dog. Same sitar tone and very simular melody all together. I would be very suprized if lemmo had never heard it
This instrument was expensive and hard to find in the 1960s; being a take it or leave it proposition. In a mid-life crisis in the 1990s, I bought the Jerry Jones version of this instrument. The Jerry Jones versions are available (far newer), not cheap, but extremely well made in Jerry Jones' Tennessee factory now sadly closed since about 2011. These are uber-cool and worth owning.
This was guitar of the day over more than 3 years ago.
8:40 Idk why but this section I really like cause it sounded a lot like pizzicato on a violin. Sounded really cool. This whole video was lovely though. So damn unique sounding, that thing
Great.
as a kid in the '60s "Hooked On A Feeling", BJ Thomas, Vinnie Bell. Great track.
And Joe South - Games People Play. Have LOVED both of those songs since i was a kid in the 1960's
I just read about this instrument in "Play it Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll" and had to see and hear it demonstrated. You hit all the info the book listed, right down to Ravi Shankar...you really know your stuff!! I'm impressed 🤘
Paint It Black!
I have three actual Indian sitars, but I would love to have one of these also. Different strokes!
Thanks for bring back the Sitar
The talented, fearless, and inspiring Wayne Krantz is the player I would like to see push this electric sitar outside the box at a live session.
Love the electric Sitar! Plus the original music, well done!
What a cool guitar! Playing is marvelous as always!
Looper with a sitar, nice Lemmo 😀
One of theser days, I'm gonna have one!!
WOW !🤩
This is a kind of guitar I have always, always wanted.
Thnx Michael for showcasing this instrument. Super. Sitar played my the Master Guru. Just the best
Peggy and Jojo Benson's single Soulshake and album uses this. Real raw 60s soul with sitar and Nashville backing musicians. The electric sitar was their schtick
Reminds me of Rory Gallagher, he played one on "Philby"
Same
That is way freaking cool. Super dig the original piece. Well done
Listened to the american recordings by Johnny Cash today and his version of Personal Jesus. Good job Lemmo 👍
Oh please give that gorgeous song at the end a proper release! It such good jam material, too
Check out stylistics - payback is a dog. Very simular
Be careful with that Carlos might have a flashback.
ALL CAPS FOR CARLOS
Denny Dias' Electric Sitar solo on Steely Dan's Do It Again! One of my favorite solos.
Rick Beato’s video on Steely Dan brought me here
Cool! You reminded me of that
I remember back in the late 60s you could buy a used one for $75.00 wish I bought them all!
Lemmo is my spiritual animal.
Guys a bloomin genius.👏👏👏👏👏
Cool Sitar, Cool Sound.
That was great
thanks Lemmo
That original was fantastic!
What was that first song ?
Cool guitar. Jen is still saying Byeeeeeeee 😂♥️
That would be epic going through a Strymon Cloudburst.
Mark did one of those a few years ago. It was a really cool sound guitar/sitar . Bad ass
Yes, I remember it. A pity they didn't sample that performance at the end.
@@promerops I'm sure it was because Lemmo was just trying to Play Authentic.
Now that’s a guitar for Wednesday.
So, you can bend strings on a sitar. (Extra points for the Godzilla T)
Every Time You Go Away
The late big jim sullivan played one in an episode of space 1999. The troubled spirit.. Lovely sound🎼🎼
I love his shirt lol
And the amazing part is that it's low E-string notes really sounds like a bass guitar.
Denny Dias plays it on Steely Dan guitar solo "Do it again", Bob K on youtube plays also the same solo on the same guitar
Such an interesting guitar! Nothing like an electric that does something different! However! Gotta do a Maton!
The original "Hooked on a Feeling" has a nice sitar opening riff.
Did Lemmo's just play Personal Jesus on a sitar????? I love this dude!!!!
I didn't see enough people mentioning Steve Howe's use of this guitar on Close to the Edge!!!!!!
That's cool man. You forgot to mention probably the most famous electric sitar song, Do it Again by Steely Dan.
Just bought one bro , would have not known about them without this demo thanks !!!!!!!
That the coolest t-shirt starring at them magic fingers trying to see the majic
I remember Mark Agnesi did a video about this guitar a few years ago. This is my favorite guitar from Norman's Rare Guitars.
Bless Vinnie Bell! Love to own one of these!
That was amazing Lemmo ! 😎👍 🎸🎶 Thanks Jen !
Great playing my dude
Michael you really nailed it
Groovy, Lemmo! I’m a Danelectro fan. Saw one of these in a shop once. Went back and it was gone. Like hot cakes. Keep on truckin’!
So awesome! Great original song 🎵♥️
Man that sounded good! Keep up the killer stuff, Lemmo.
R&B music also. The Point of No Return, Bobby Womack. Hooked on a feeling.
You forgot to mention Big Jim Sullivan (session whiz bud of Jimmy Page and Tom Jones) or "Lord Sitar" as he was known - check him out on Space 1999 kiddies!
Lemmo FTW!
That version of personal Jesus was awesome. I want a sitar now.
Imange using an ebow or gizmotron with this thing.... magical!!!
Steve Miller picked up one of those beauties for less than $200 back in the day. He used it to record Wild Mountain Honey.
very cool , sitar music that doesn't just sound like indian music , Lemmo can play any guitar like instrument and kill it. Very vibey finish on tht thing , coral reef I suppose , and a weird ass shape , looks great , sounds very cool , luv it. thanks guys
Fantastic!!
That is a beautiful instrument.
I believe one was also used on the amazing hit song “Cry Like a Baby” by the Box Tops.
Denny Dias' historic solo on Steely Dan's classic hit, 'Do It Again'.
That can sure draw a crowd when busking!!...
Correct tuning is with no low "E", and two high "E" in unison to get a deeper sitar sound.
Drone strings are "E" to "E" chromatic scale.
Akes a little effort to get everything tuned
Coral Sitar a masterpiece of creativity.
Once you adjust your thinking to strings shifted up from normal, it is a delight!up correct with piano tuner, but worth it.
❤
Lovely playing... really cool sound. Bet that ain't around for long...
Awesome personal Jesus
Izzy Stradlin from Guns N Roses played a coral sitar in the intro to the song Pretty Tied Up
This is so dope!
Oh my God
such a cool sound
This is my first comment ever. That's a very interesting instrument to test your creativity! Someday I'll have one of my own ;w;
☞ ̄ᴥ ̄☞C'mon Big Mike ! " GREEN TAMBOURINE " by the LEMMO PIPER'S ( 1968 ) .... perfect little sitar song ✌🏼
Lemmo you said late50s early 60s, I’m sure the just made this sitar for 2 years 1967-68
To hear a Coral Electric Sitar in the hands of a noted pro look up:
Big Jim Sullivan: The Troubled Spirit
Don't forget Denny Dias' solo on Steely Dan's 'Do It Again'.
as a jojo fan hearing last train home made me want this guitar
Could you tell me more about the bridge, that’s the critical point to this Indian sound?
is there any guitar pedal to simulate this sound with a regular guitar?
such nice sound, very harmonic
nice playing. incredible how cool of an instrument and 1960ties.
ravish sitar pedal by Electo-Harmonix
Oh man I so wanted you to strum the 13 strings even though your not suppose too I wanted to hear it....keep up the great videos & content.
