Why do I feel like only 2% of the population around me is an introvert, yet in the comment section everyone is an introvert?
Cause the extroverts are mostly out hanging with friends as opposed to watching science videos.
TFTM Lol true but even in my classes, 90% of the students contribute in conversation to the lecture and I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't participate. Yet on the Internet, there are tons of introverts like me.

Consider what he said in the video about introverts not needing the same level of excitement to be satisfied. While an extrovert would rather experience the fun of a group hangout, we're happy as is with just RUclips and chill.
Introverts are quite active on the internet. Many introverts pretend to be extroverted in real life probably because society has an "extroversion bias" as mentioned in the video.

I'm not at all, most people I know are more than me, I just don't like being around people I don't know or more than 3 people I do, and need/like a significant amount of time to myself.

@@memezarqueen1415 Your opinion around loud noises doesn't necessarily determine introversion or extraversion. It's more-so how you feel in social situations, or your level of boredom and/or excitement. I'm very introverted (I also just suck at talking to people), but even though I hate loud noises, it doesn't guarantee my introversion or extraversion. If you want to figure out what you are, introvert, extrovert, or even an ambivert, then I recommend that you hang out with friends or family for a couple of hours and see how you hold up. If you get bored or lose focus quickly, I'd say you're most likely introverted. If you're actively particpating in conversations and finding yourself enjoying being with people, you could be an extrovert. Or an ambivert. Dunno how that one would feel though.

A person can be extroverted or introverted, as shown by the MBTI theory. But everyone has an introverted and an extroverted side, inside his own personality type.
Each side can be expressed independently of person's basic personality. He/she chooses which one to express according to the situations and the people he/she is interacting with, the personal emotional state, etc.
Insecurities, behaviors and actions have nothing to do with the personality :)

@@IgorNetoAnimation A lot of things have names, but that doesn't mean they are real or have turned out to be true over time. Think about things like unicorns and mermaids or, more seriously, scientific theories that have proven to be incorrect. If you hypothesize something and you give it a name, this does not imply that it is true, at least until it is proven. But even if it's proven that something isn't true, it doesn't mean that it isn't beautiful and/or has not something to teach us. For example, fantastic creatures can be useful in creating beautiful stories and novels; they tell us about the folklore of the people who invented legends about them, etc. The incorrect scientific theories leave us something about our process of analysis, testing and discovering process of their invalidity. And they are a step to more correct theories.
So, going back to the heart of the matter: ambiversion. Psychological experts and psychological theories (such as MBTI) agree that it does not exist. "Ambiversion" doesn't exist because you can't prefer both Extraversion and Introversion - one is always going to be stronger than the other.
Your inner core is extroverted OR introverted but, as I explained in the previous comment, you can express both sides, depending on situations, emotional state and people, independently of person's basic personality.
An easy way to try to understand if your true self is introverted or extroverted is to try to notice and answer to these questions, IN GENERAL and objectively: 1⃣ do you feel alive, *do you get energy from acting outside?* from external situations? from interacting with people? OR 2⃣ *do you get energy* from your mind, *from your inner world* of thoughts, ideas and beliefs? do you feel better if you are in your mind, because the inner world come before the rest? do you look at the world through your inner world? If you could choose OBJECTIVELY between interacting with other people going out with your friends *or* an evening reading a book / playing a video game (with friends or without), would you choose the second option?
Thinking about it, which of the two options is more intimately true for you? Taking into account that we all have our own interiority, which must not be confused with introversion, and vice versa, our positive or negative contact with the external world must not be confused with extraversion.
In any case, the problem is that people create a lot of garbage from psychological and scientific theories like MBTI, so that what is correct is often misinterpreted. Ambiversion is one of these mistakes. As well as believing that some psychological types are better than others. So you have to be careful ;) Sorry about this long answer, but it was necessary

@@flyingspacebrainedidiot contrary to what most people think, introversion and extroversion isn't directly linked with your ability in socializing, it's how you restore your energy (I'm not talking about some chakra bullcrap, I mean your excitement and feeling good in general). An extrovert may not be very good talking to people, but they will feel good when they manage to get in the conversation. In the same way, an introvert may be good at socializing and talking to others, but they'll get exhausted as the time passes, since it consumes their energy. Though I'm an extrovert who loves talking to people, I've seen both cases and it's pretty normal

Indeed, because group work really is Bullshit. I would neither consider myself an introvert nor an extrovert, but in my view, group work is like an analogy to communism: It is unproductive because you are rewarded for not having own ideas and not doing actual work.
Where did you get the idea that communism is unproductive? History proves the contrary.
When communism is involved, people are rewarded the same despite putting in different amounts of effort. So they are more inclined to put in less effort, so there's less incentive to work since they get the same thing. So communism is less effective than just having everyone work for their own wages.
Yeah same. And I am one of those people whose introversion has cased anxiety and moderate depression. I'll have my good days, and I'll even sometimes feel great and that I can do anything and have this weird burst of positivity and social energy. It's an on and off thing.
At home or with my friends (Best friends) I'm an extrovert.

No, actually, there are more ambiverts than introverts or extroverts. If you ignore ambiverts, there are more extroverts, but ambiverts are the majority of people, they just act more extroverted towards other people. Thanks for clarifying the difference between the two! I noticed that I become very disconnected when conversing with groups of 5+, it's nice to know that's a normal introversion trait as opposed to some social issue.

FineSarcasm I Think perhaps the problem is that these categories are too simplistic. To assume that wanting to be around people necessarily correlates with being adventurous while not feeling energized by being around people is akin to being chronically anxious and nervous. There are a lot of social butterflies out there who wouldn’t even do non-risky activities like riding a rollercoaster or watching a scary movie let alone doing something that had actual risks. Social gatherings can be some of the most boring things out there, even parties with loud music I must say I do not find that interesting.

I have a large group of friends (20 people) we're all besties and when I'm with an other group that's not mine I feel uncomfortable but that doesn't make you an introvert (not that being introvert is a bad thing of course) it just makes you..a little shy? That's because most people define introversion and extroversion as a 2 sided coin, either is one, or the other. Actually, it is quite of a spectrum; everybody has main traits at one side (or even in the middle, which are ambiverts), but they have some characteristics of the other too. I, for example, am an extrovert and I love talking to people, especially in huge groups, it feels like I have a stamina bar that keeps going up; still, I wouldn't refuse a good afternoon playing video games (wether I'm alone or not), that's something that I love doing since I was a child

That's an ambivert characteristic. I am very much a similar way. I don't mind being alone but I also don't mind being the center of attention. But if people get too talkative or the environment gets too loud, I want to be in my little world and potential find a quieter place.
I am the SAME way. I am definitely a strong conversation contributor, but the moment they start doing too much (forgetting to breathe and letting the other person talk too) then something happens and I get quiet. On the other hand, if I'm talking to a person who is shy and/or isn't contributing much to the conversation (such as an introvert) then I probably won't talk to them for very long. I tend to retreat because I don't know what to do with them. lol

I'm really confused.
I know I'm an introvert _now_, but i used to be the biggest extrovert ever! When I was younger, around 5-8, I used to be so outgoing and happy and fun! I used to just go up to random people and ask them to be friends, i used to be the happiest person ever.
And now I'm antisocial and have social anxiety. I don't understand what changed me and I really want to know.

You were taught to feel shame, that's what happened. You were probably bullied for being yourself and internalized it. You were taught to feel afraid of being embarrassed. Happened to me.
A happy person, a shy person and introvert are absolutely different independent traits. As an introvert you can be shy or bold, it's not a problem to be open with people telling them that you don't want to talk to them. And you can be a happy introvert. You can talk to random people, you can be extremely friendly. But then a hundred friends of yours ask you if you wanna go out and drink and listen to loud music and yell and shoot stuff all night and you say "no, fu, you're sick". That means you're introvert. An extrovert will just go ahead and have fun because any social fun is good to them. The more the better. They relax this way, you relax by staying away from the crowd.

when I brain storm with two people I do great but when I talk in front of people I get nervous and lose my attention even though I like it. the other thing is I am very energetic and crazy around people who I actually feel comfortable with. At other times I talk in front of a pack or group of people to conquer my fear of nervousness and humiliation
i think term socialising with people is loose term here because if you meet new people and they are really confident and present their ego you can act closed as introvert but with close friends who get along with you you can be yourself and act wild and open and there can be more scenarios, like new people but also not arrogant as they take conversations more fragile and want to know you and have a good time

I think both are fine, so long as they respect the preferences of others. There's nothing worse than an aggressive extrovert who doesn't respect an introvert's boundaries, or an aggressive introvert who is constantly complaining about extroverts.
Though, there is an uneven ratio. Introverts are the ones usually full of themselves nowadays and are seen to be "bitter". So, extroverts and their "loudness" should shut their asses up. Just an idea.
Although I agree that there is an uneven ratio, I believe a lot also has to do with age, for example, little children from the age of 5 - 12 are more likely to be extroverts rather than introverts because they are younger, more sociable, and less self-conscious. In the leading years, adolescence, people become more self-conscious and some even switch to being introverts in this stage. MOST IMPORTANTLY, if someone is an introvert at a young age, adolescence can make 'introversy' a curse rather than a personality. People say that this switch between the two side is very easy (if someone is an introvert, they can easily become and extrovert and vice versa), at this age, but in fact, this is not true... What IS true is that the LEVEL of 'extroversy' and 'introversy' diminishes over time. (People will tend to become ambiverts as they become older). I myself remember being told that I was an extrovert when I was younger, and now I am an introvert, I accept his change and think it for the better

In my younger years, really until having children I was absolutely an extrovert, but something changed in me deeply since losing their dad. Having to deal with the grief and fallout of this. It made me even more protective of my children, but also very bonded to them.
Since all of this transpired, and having to survive it… I’ve absolutely become an introvert, and I am very strategic & careful in all of my life choices now… for my children most of all.
