EXPLORING DUBAI: Getting Lost in the Old Town
I really enjoy your videos. They are so authentic....no loud music, no clickbait, just honest experiences during your travels. So refreshing!
Thank you for allowing me to relive my journey to old Dubai. I was there back in 1993 and your journey takes me back to the boat ride and the gold souks. I have been looking at my old photos that I took in that vary location and several of the buildings have not changed at all. I was in the US Navy on a submarine when we visited several ports in the area. This video was epic and I look forward to to following and seeing many more Middle Eastern videos! Thanks for taking that journey for us that can otherwise not travel like you do!
Dubai is so beautiful! I went there 2 years a go for 2 months and it was truly one of my best travel experiences.
You have the best music of any travel vlogger out there. I love your videos! Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Nice video Gabe!! I thought we'll never get to the elusive Gold Souk!! But glad you finally found the place. Keep going mate!! Enjoy.👍
just logged in to say great work! do give new perspectives. (locals, mosques, mueseums, expensive places, cheap places, ordinary life, exotic etc) bring the world a little closer.kudos..looking forward to more videos.
Yeaahhh! Dubai!!!! Awesome seeing you in more countries. You're my main inspiration to travel and explore without prejudices and with an open mind! Good luck!!!!!
Coolness.
It's a real nice change to see another aspect of Dubai, apart from same old Downtown, which is all you seem to get on RUclips!! If your explores are anything like your previous trip to India, we're in for a veritable treat.. Thanks Gabriel, & looking forward👍🏻
I am the 2nd one to like your video your travelling experiences are awsum keep up the good work!!
‘Where you from? ‘. “America”. ‘Hey wuuss uuuup’ ! 😂 oh my gosh you are so patient and kind hehe
Just got lost the souks in Dubai thanks to you :-) ! Much better than following a plan or a tour guide... I have been living in Tunisia for over 12 years now and the over eager and friendly sellers in the souks are just the same here... The boat ride gave me a veery tiny whiff of Venice in Italy on a vaporetto, less the history and the architecture. And the price, much better in Dubai !
Very nice place, no horns and not one piece of paper on the ground.
Also boring.
and water on the ground also shopkeepers are annoying
Another beautiful Video from Gabriel, Thank you. December is the middle of winter in UAE, be careful of the Summer were the temp. will reach up to 62 Celestials and 98% humid, and you can not walk out of the Hotel room.
I couldn't help to notice a lack of women walking around the city. Loved the video though. I've flown through numerous times and stopped there on a Navy cruise but never seen areas like this. You have found the local areas and I appreciate it.
"welcome back" that was so funny!
Its ironic that you are getting hit by the Indian salespeeps harder than you did in India. Thanks for another great video. Travel safe!
elrito1 those be Pakistanis too. Think before you speak.
Great video! Just bought the ticket, i will be there in february, so looking forward for more videos from Dubai and Abu-Dhabi.
Basically dubai is not 43% Indian, they only work there and their rights are protected by indian passport, its very very difficult to get citizenship of uae specially for nonmuslims
majority of indian are muslim in UAE....... UAE don't give citizenship to non-muslim unless you'r famous or a billionaire....
Hi Gabriel, I like the way how you narrate and acknowledge your videos. You are awesome! Keep doing your good deed :) Merry Christmas!
Excellent, thanks and Merry Christmas.
My family’s been waiting for this video! Lol thanks Gabriel
I don't do any spices! lol like wtf.. that cracked me up :D
Haha, yeah just trying to think of what to say to keep going.
funny you went from india to UAE which again is full of indians. lol
I know. It's hard to find a non-Indian restaurant around here.
Americans too enjoy the yummy Indian spices and food it replace the Mexican food.
if you go to beach full of western.
and if you go to japan you can se chinese.
@@survun2440 Wherever you go, Chinese are everywhere
But still, Indian vlogs were much fun. Dubai is super cool too.
Dubai is mos def on my bucket list.
$3 for coconut wow! price are 10 time expensive then india
yay was waiting for your videos since yesterday ..about to explore another part of the world :)
Cool, thanks. Yeah this will be totally different, and a whole new part of the world for me. Lots more to come.
cant wait for you to upload again :)
I'm really enjoying your Dubai video series. Making me relive old memories. You should go slower when you film 360 degrees. It was the only unpleasant part of your video! Keep up the great work!
Great video dude keep it up iv tried watching other travel vloggers but none of them do videos as good as yours
Cool, thanks a lot.
Merry Christmas Gabe!
🌲🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Thanks Stan, Merry Christmas.
Another awesome video . Thanks for sharing
fantastic just came from Dubai and one of the guy from spice market that you got in the video had me buying stuff in his store chocolate and stuff , but you were close to Golden souk if you had buy stuff from them they will go with you to show you the way to there, but you did great and like you say , soon they have you in the store they will try to take all the money that you dont want to spend well done.
Another interesting video. It was cool to see the older neighborhoods and markets. I was curious why you chose to travel to Dubai since it is more expensive than your usual places you visit? Safe travels.
Great video again! Thanks! Stopped for connecting flights there so many times but never explored, most likely for the same reasons as others have mentioned to be honest. Looks a brilliant place to get lost though, looking forward to seeing more from the U.A.E :)
I was waiting for this! Awesome man. And tomorrow I'll do the book donations and get a t shirt for myself as a Xmas present😁
Sweet, thanks Jose, appreciate it.
Gabriel Traveler its the least one could do after getting so inspired by you! Keep the videos coming man
you should use a mobile phone GPS you will find things very fast.
Awesome Video Gabriel is kinda odd all those suks vendors trying to sell you something reminds me on the suks in marakesh morocco same modus operanti
Dubai is so beautifull
Great video!
Great video!!..Keep it up. :)
you ignored everyone telling you the gold souk was down to the other side. youre already on the souk side of the river.
Yes, because once I was in the spice market then I wanted to check it out, rather than go straight to the gold souk.
Hi Gabriel! I have a question! How do you decide to go to what destinations you want to travel to?? You've been so many places and I'm so jealous.
Gabe I kept thinking you were looking for some gold soup, not souk and couldn't work out why you didn't just grab something to eat from anywhere! Looks a cool video especially the spice market and the creek with the boats
Gold soup....I guess that would be with pumpkins? Sounds tasty.
Haha actually yes it contains pumpkins, red lentils and carrots! Thanks for emailing your books in Pdf format by the way, will be reading them over the holiday period. Already have my flight booked to Santorini for next year and planning on island hopping round the Cyclades after watching your videos with the mountain bike around the same islands! Thanks for posting some excellent videos of your travels. Paul
Excellent, sounds awesome. I miss Greece. Have a great trip.
I had an aggressive rug salesman in Turkey who just wanted me to buy a rug. I told him I’d like to look at his rugs but that he would probably get resentful that he would spend so much time in his shop showing rugs I wasn’t going to buy. He got it and we ended up hanging all evening and when it was time to go, no bad feelings. It was a cool evening.
Nice.
When I was in Morocco, in January of 1978, the Arab men in the souks were sooooooooooo persistent. It takes a lot to resist them but, I did just that! Luckily I was not alone and was travelling with my grandparents, so ... I didn't feel so put off when the dudes kept after me.
Gabriel, I've been meaning to ask you this question: as much you obviously love to travel, do you still feel the initial excitement and find it fun to travel or it's mostly business as usual, boredom, tiring to travel these days? And what about loneliness, how do wok deal with that? Thanks
for your info UAE is not 43% indian, its 34%, official stats, unofficial stats can claim 50% if they want to, just thought i'd share with you since you mentioned them pretty much in all of your UAE videos
From Wikipedia:
Population (25 November 2017) • Total2,884,837[1] • Nationalities:
43.3% Indian
23% Emirati
17% Pakistani
7.5% Bangladeshi
4.2% Filipino
1.5% Sri Lankan
0.3% American
5.2% other countries
Great video! I like the owl shirt! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and safe travels.
Thanks and Merry Christmas.
Great video with great music!
All I say is that you must have a GREAT internal compass -- I almost got a bit dizzy walking around with you. :)
Please and please keep doing captions on every single video so we know all the information from that place.
Is this your 1500th Vlog?
Close! It's actually the 1,501st.
Old Dubai is a guaranteed way to get lost. Doesn’t seem like there are any pure souks, they all sell a variety of merchandise. At least that was my experience there
Dubai ❤️
Hey Gabriel, Visit Russia also.
Nice interesting area and those boats were cool.
Love your vids ,I'm off there in August.
Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha etc just reminds me of the game Sim City.
Thumbs up for you taking the metro
Good job...like it
Another amazing video pls share where to stay in Dubai about budget stays or hostels
It's seems to me that all the hype about Dubai is the expensive hotels that they built for the ultra rich, which are out of reach of the average individual. I find a lack of development for the middle class tourists who are really the people who make the bulk of touristic travelers. There is no fascination no attraction. Not even a decent middle class resort to keep the median tourist interested. They talk about the big malls the big buildings, those are everywhere in the world. A place should offer that extra something that is cultural and entertaining to keep people coming back. All in all Dubai is a boring place.
Hey just curious, have you been to Belgium or Finland and plan to make videos?
I've been to Belgium, before I was making videos. I might visit both of those countries this winter, we'll see.
Gabriel Traveler Awesome. I briefly saw Ghent, Belgium. Not sure if there is much to do, but seems fun to just take a stroll. Finland is probably like Sweden, but with more lakes lol
Welcome to my country 🇦🇪🇦🇪🌹 yes Indian and Pakistani Asians are more then locals Arab hhhhhh We all are same and love each other 🌹come to abudhabi you well see all locel
You were so near to the public museum at 19:22. And you can enter there for free. There you can see an actual camel and feed them!
Hey man m always watching yours videos I live in Abu Dhabi so when do you have time to come here
Dubai - the place where you hear more Indian and Pakistani languages than Arabic
"Imma show you some Arabic food..." cut to next scene and it's burger and fries :) xD
I can't believe you are in Dubai! My favorite area is Bur Dubai. I've been there 3 times in the last year. There are some inexpensive hotels, but it's the added vat, tourist tax and service charge that kills the price.
I moved to a hotel in the Bur Dubai area actually. $65 including taxes and it's really nice, at least a 3-star. So yeah there are some decent deals to be found.
Gabriel Traveler Good for you! Enjoy your stay in the UAE, and wouldn't it be awesome if you could stay there for their New Year's light show (but the crowds)😨😁
How much for a metro ticket in Dubai.. and is it work for one way or there is a card or you buy a couple tickets
I forget, but it's not too expensive, just a few dollars. You can find out when you get there. You can purchase them right at the metro station.
Hi, long time watcher first time commenting. What's your view on Dubai and women. My girlfriend refuses to go because she says it's dangerous and she refuses ro cover her hair (i agree she shouldn't have to). Do you find that they are quite strict about it? Love the videos thank you for putting them up.
Hi Chris, thanks for watching and commenting. As much as I've learned about Dubai in the short time I've been here, mostly just from walking around the city, it's a relatively progressive Arabic city and it's very westernized. There's absolutely no requirement for women to wear headscarves. You see people of all types here in all sorts of different dress, from women wearing burkas to western women wearing the typical western clothes. I've seen women wearing shorts and t-shirts. So that's really not an issue. Also it isn't dangerous at all. It feels extremely safe here, a lot more than many western cities actually such as New York, Paris, London, etc. I can't speak about any other Arabic cities in the area, but I think it's a misconception about the middle east that it's unsafe. Certainly there are some cities that are different, but Dubai is probably one of the safest cities in the world.
Gabriel Traveler thats really insightful thank you.
Chris Wilson in his video you saw many many women not have their heads covered. I think that might be Saudi Arabia that your thinking about more so.
Amazing video dude
Vendor : just look spices .?
Gabriel: I don't do any spice ..... 😂😂
Yeah I don't do spice. I prefer completely bland food with no taste. ;)
Love the gold suq
Dubai got it going on!
Al karama haha thats were I'm staying men its weird to see my place in a video.😂 hope i saw you exploring Dubai
Those guys at those shops are so freaking ANNOYING!!!
Wow. That markets like the seen at the start of the film Airplane ha ha ha ha ha
If you go to Jordan you must go to Petra.
Check out the Central Souq in Sharjah, also Ras al khaimah, Fujairah and Umm al quwain
I noticed a tourist walking around with his backpack on the front but isn’t dubai supposed to be really safe with almost no thieves?
It's safe and it actually depends on the area. There are many pedestrianiazed walkways with lots of people but there are other places that seem kinda empty. Plus because of the weather most people prefer to stay indoors in shopping malls
Hey Gabe, I live in Sharjah. Glad to know you are in Emirates.
I see, very cool! That's very close then. I talked to some people who were staying there. Enjoying Dubai.
Bahrain is just near to UAE, visit us, we have the oldest graveyards in the world, they go back thousands of years. Also we have a wonderful culture and fabulous places that visit, let me know if you pass by and I will be glade to show you around.
I might go there if it works into my plans and there's a cheap enough flight. We'll see.
Gabriel Traveler email me if you pass by nmkalbalooshi@gmail.com
My guess was correct, you are in Dubai
next shirt idea--get lost and end up somewhere
and put "which way to the gold souk?" on the back
Legend has it he's still looking for gold souk! :D
I like the owl shirt.
Thanks.
I like falafel! I knew they had money, but I didn't know they had that much! Looks nice!--except for June, July, August or September.
Yeah, probably April to October is pretty roasting.
Gabriel Traveler It seems to depend on humidity, at least for me.
I like see you in iran ..iran best and safe country in west asia and middle east and you know dubai near south iran in persian gulf and I muss say thank you for nice video bro👍👍👍👍
Not sure why people go there for other reason than business. If this video shows "attractions of Dubai" then I can say there is nothing to see there. Keep travelling Gabriel and good luck.
Finally ! I subscribed and liked ur videos nice keep it up my brother also live there if u want stay with him for a day and so I can help u just let me know if u r alone
The city seem so laid back and clean. I expected more people to be on the street walking around for such a big city.
only at night you can find this
Hi Gabi , any plan to visit Doha, Qatar?
Not sure about that, I'll see. Going to be checking out the different countries in the area and take a look at flights, prices of rooms, etc.
Gabriel Traveler if you are coming after December before March i can accommodate you! No worries 😊 just check for the flights only .. cheers!
When you go back to the U.S. get a Charles Schwab Bank checking account...no fees...worldwide!
Come to Bahrain, I will show you around.
I like Indian shirts
Curious to know how hot it was each day you were in the UAE, please.
I'm not sure of the exact temperatures. Keep in mind this was in winter so it was cooler than the summer, but still pretty warm. I'd say highs in the 80s and 90s. Can't imagine summer there.
I just went to weather.com and looked up Dubai. Then, I clicked on "Monthly Averages" and scrolled down to the month in which you were there and posted your videos!
I reckon there are only two seasons in Dubai -- Damn Hot, and ... Blast Furnace Hotter!
Haha, exactly.
Yep ............. And, it's funny because Dubai is fairly humid, whereas other spots in desert areas, such as Jeddah are not.
Those bazzar sellers are a major PITA. Gosh! Had to say it!
Is everyone you meet in Dubai trying to sell you something?
Nah, just in the markets. That's an ultra touristy area right there.
Sweet owl shirt
So bored when i went and its a fake place
you want to say that this city dosent have soul! because only old cities have soul! Istanbul, Kolkata, Delhi, Paris, LOndon, MOSCOW etc
Dubai isn't for the poors or the none-educated, you either have money or have some 10 years experience in a field you need, in these two cases you will have fun in UAE
Dubai is fun and beautiful ❤😊 bought some nice things!
We can't make it an old city. It's fairly new but it's definitely not fake. If we go with the fake mentality, then all cities are fake because they are man made! Moreover If you go to the old part of Dubai and walk around in the winter ( cos the summer is just too hot) not in the souks but in old areas with some one who knows the place, you will definitely find the soul that you missed.
@@varunjha6004 LOL at Moscow. This city exists only since the 12th century. Kyiv is 500 years older than this fake capital of a fake country called Russia.
I bought a fake bag in the golden souk which is illegal
