Bill and Sammy riff on rock and roll excess, the upbringing and the heartbreak that drove Sammy to be a rock star, the technology that would have helped Bill talk to girls when he was younger, how to survive fights when you’re married, Sammy and Eddie Van Halen making peace at the end, and how Quentin Tarrantino put Sammy’s tequila brand in his movie.

Sammy Hagar is one of the coolest people alive
You got that right fat boy. 😁
What?! Why?! How?!
I agree. He doesn’t seem like he gives a shit. He does what he wants. Hell… he was in Van Halen! He’s cooler than anyone watching this fucking video on their phone. That’s for goddamned sure
Yes he is!! 😎🇺🇸☀️🏖️🍹
His shows are awesome. His band covers some early van halen (dave) songs and it sounds better with him. They also do some led zeppelin which is also amazing.
Geezus, so nice of Sammy to have Bill on his podcast so Bill can monopolize the conversation and let everyone know what he thinks.
No doubt!!! This mother fu**** better learn real quick to stfu and let his GUESTS SPEAK ...otherwise he's doomed.
Sammy is one of my all time favorites, thanks for having him on. Such a cool guy.
This coulda been 3 hours long and I woulda watched every second of it. Sammy is so cool! Great job, Bill!
Show is too short
Love Sammy.
Noone ever asks Sam if he thinks working with Eddie improved his guitar skills.
@@dannybaxter4710nobody asked Eddie if playing with Alice Cooper improved his Golf skills . 😂
You couldnt go 1 more hour and make it 4?
31:30 Bill shows that he doesn't know what's up with VH background harmony and Sammy quickly, kindly corrects and all of us VH fans had a sigh of relief. Michael Anthony is a lord of background vocals.
Wish Bill would have asked Sammy to talk about VH more and not about the fucking Beatles. And about being in a band now with Jason Bonham, the son of a fucking Led Zeppelin legend. Come on Bill, get with it.
@@jabold I like this podcast, don't mean to trash it. But the problem with this podcast is bill's an egomaniac that can't can't get past himself for a second. The Jimmy Kimmel one is a perfect example, asks a great question, Jim starts to give an interesting answer and Bill brings it back to him...always. s
Still dig it, just saying...
Love VH beyond The Beach Boys, but they did not have those harmonies. Yes, Bill shows some ignorance here about Michael Anthony. Harmony came from Eddie's playing.
I do agree that Bill needs to chill with his pissyness. Just let the guest talk and quit trying to contradict everything.
Knew Sammy would jump at that !
@@jabold The Circle baby 🎶
Makes me happy to hear the shout out to Mike Antony, His backing vocals are as important to Van Halen sound as everything else.
....and Alex is truly a one-of-a kind drummer, whether you like Van Halen or not. The unsung hero of that band.
And Mikey's still got it...
Mike just seems down to earth... very much like Sammy. It's no wonder they get along. Very little ego with either of them. I've always been a fan.
@@CajunSmack You know what the best part of this conversation was? they never mentioned Dave. I appreciated that because Dave has not been remotely relevant for 20 years.😄
@@David_Richard_241 You know, that didn't occur to me until you said it. I'm glad Bill didn't bring that up. It's old news.
Not only can Sammy Hagar sing but as a guitar player myself, I will attest to his excellent guitar skills.
He truly shreds, and nobody knows it, What a shame.
@robert l So I guess everyone plays guitar professionally like me as well? Everyone puts their shoes on and plays guitar for a living like me? Are you an idiot Robert or just slow?
Willy Lang……it’s a shame Sammy is only known for his vocals. He’s such a great guitar player. Bought VH to the next level with his excellent vocals and guitar playing.
i saw the VOA tour in peoria illinois loving sammys music and he came out and blew me away with his guitaIt's cities of angels and constant danger
South central L.A. can't get no stranger
Full of drama like a soap opera
On the curb watching the ghetto bird helicopters
I observe so many niggas
Gettin' three strikes, tossed in jail

I can't cry, cause it's home now
I'm just a nigga on his own now
Livin' life thug style, so I can't smile

i saw sammy in peoria on the voa tour. he blew me away with his guitar playing. gary phil was there too but sammy played most of the lead, i dont know where those rap lines came from. i dont even listen to it.
For the most part, this was a fabulous interview, but would someone with influence tell Bill to quit talking over his guests so much, be quiet more often, and let his guests talk more. Still, man, Sammy Hagar is 75 and has more energy and drive than most half his age.
Couldn’t agree more. He barely let Sammy answer any questions. Im surprised Sammy had so much patience with that. Would love to have heard more.
that’s the doobage kicking in!
@@Hogprint25 I wish it were true, but Maher's biggest weakness in conversations is his inability to shut up more and let his guests talk more. And as some other poster remarked, he too often must be right.
Sammy, class act!
He’s gotta attend a semester at Joe Rogans podcasting academy
My brother and his wife took a trip to Cabo several years ago. I joked with him that he’d probably run into Sammy Hagar. Not only did they meet him and get a picture, but they got to hang out with him at the Cantina.
Been to Cabo a few times. Never met Sammy, but a buddy of mine did. Said he was the coolest, most chill guy around.
Another good one Bill. With Sammy anybody could sit down and shoot the breeze with him and have a great time. Completely down to earth and easy going.
Watched it all and loved it. As a fly on the wall many topics and discussion with Sammy as very enjoyable. Thanks Bill.
Sammy Hagar never disappoints. He has slowly but surely became THE rock star that everybody knows and loves.
Sam Gaygar
He's known as rock's most prolific pathological liar and gossip queen. He's pathetic.
@@BennieTarrMusic Ironic considering Hagar is the only heterosexual frontman Van Halen ever had.
Great to see Sammy, and Bill doing his thing. I like Sammy’s goal, to “live to be 100”, I think he will do it.
What a brilliant show!!! Sammy has his finger on the "pulse of life". Excellent conversation covering a variety of interesting topics while enjoying bud and liquor! Love Club Random... this is right up there as one of the best. Absolutely love the idea of a past guest gathering! That would be so very cool.
He DOES?
Never was a Van Hagar fan at all. But I’ve always heard that Sammy was the nicest guy in the biz. Yet another piece of evidence to support that view.
the Keanu Reaves of rock
Me too .loved diamond dave .....saw him say .aint looking for love .my love is rotten to the core ...compared to why can't this be love
He comes across as much nicer than Bill actually.
listen to van hagar live they where better live with him than with david
@Stinky I don’t even know what this means.
This is 2 of my favorite entertainers in the World. Had no idea Bill was a Sammy Hagar fan. 👍✌️🤘😀🤘
What a nice surprise!! Sammy Hagar is great!!! One of the best rock vocalists around!! And what a history in performance! Thanks for this!!
MONTROSE Was Totally THE SHIT 🎶
That is really interesting……when I was exposed to Zeppelin I …initially thought Robert was the “weak” vocalist who happens to be in a great band….go back to the late 60’s see them perform live and a lot of re listening …Robert is amazing….and his voice has held up…..I can see why you would say that about Sammy he does indeed have great rock vocals ….with a big bonus of being a mad man on the guitar….he is a total package real deal Rock Star !! Peace !!
I just love club random and could listen for hours.
Thanks for the Beach Boys shout out Sammy!Bill always references the Beatles at least once a show so it's good to hear my favorite band get their due🤙
This is one of my favorite podcasts to watch.
Club Random has some great conversation.
Michael anthony is, in my opinion, one of the top two best backup vocalist of any rock band
And he's the nicest guy , knows which side his bread is buttered , total class act , never talks shit about anyone . A great hang , in other words , i agree ! Lol
Nahh, too many teeth !
I remember seeing sammy in Dayton Ohio at hara arena. This was the i can't drive 55 tour, and talk about rockin. One of my best memories. We were front row, a little left, so awesome seats. We had dropped acid and was feeling groovy. The lights go down, the fog machine is blasting, and then i see these little red lights, coming towards us at the front. It took me quite awhile to realize that the fret markers on sammy's guitar lit in red! Never seen it before, or since. Awesome
I miss Hara Arena!
Rocking at Hara was great. Saw Montrose with Journey. Wow...
Grew up in the Bay Area when Sammy was in Montrose. Sammy Hagar solo concerts back in my early teens were quite memorable. Especially the Day on the Green concerts, New Years concert at The Cow Palace with Rick Derringer, The Runaways.
Paper Money is still on my Playlist. 😊
Such an enjoyable interview.... I watched this over a 4-hour span ( 11:45pm-3:45am )
Thank you Bill & Sammy - J from Pico Rivera, California 🌴
Every year at Cabo Wabo, Sammy performs on his birthday. I was there one year and had a blast.
Great hearing from Sammy! Loving the unstructured format of this podcast
I don’t know, it would’ve been a bit more interesting to hear more from Sammy! Bills way too chatty for me!..but agreed! Such as it was, it was a fun watch! 🇨🇦
Sammy. He's a Fontana boy.
Great episode!! I could watch hours of you and Sammy just talking!! He needs to be a return guest!! And Santo Tequila is great!! Steve in Santa Monica
THIS PODCAST IS THE S***!!!! IM SO HAPPYTHIS EXISTS!!! WITH GRASS AND EVERYTHING!!!! THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT!!! ROCK LEGENDS!
This is literally the chillest show ever. Always a good time.
Its the only podcast I watch in full. I don't know why. It might be cuz they remind me of my dad's friends, old school, easygoing, down to earth, but wild at heart, and genuinely decent humans. The best of the baby boomer generation.
@@bluceree7312 Agreed, my friend. Well put.
@@bluceree7312 Come On Now : Sammy's ' Road Trip ' 🤟
@@bluceree7312 Thank you Shkiny. That was beautifully put. As an oldie myself, your dad sounds like a very decent cool human being.
Sammy deserved 2 hours minimum, great interview!
whoa, didn't expect sammy hagar to be on, but this is the first episode I've watched the whole thing
Me too, big Sammy fan, was a surprised pairing. I wish the length of the show would be random: it ends when the convo ends.
Hagar's a great personality. One of the few people that Maher can't monologue over. I have a feeling that even though Hagar's a rock star, he'd sit down and have a drink with you.
Only one drink??!!
Bob Dylan started off in his teens as a Rock & Roller playing piano like Little Richard and doing his hair like Elvis before getting into the new folk movement, he came full circle.
I met Bill at Cosmo's Cafe in Fort Wayne, IN. Sammy is my all time fav. And Fontana song Bill was singing was a cover on the Ronnie Montrose, Mean album!! How ironic...
Only 2 performers will make me shed tears when we lose them... Angus Young & Sammy Hagar!
I really like Sammy's energy. This is my first time ever seeing him talk. I am not a Van Halen fan at all, but now I am a Sammy fan!
You're a Sammy fan but not a Van Halen fan? Even Sammy explains the best time of his life, best music he ever put out was his time with VH. Of course, VH is not for everyone (like you) but it's the highest mountain Sammy ever climbed, even Sammy says so.
@@JCLADOG Sammy was destined to be VH's Lead singer, because he paid his dues and always gave a great energetic show Solo.Has the Pipes too.
@@JCLADOG honestly, the only great stuff he ever did was with Van Halen and montrose. His solo stuff is so meh
Growing up in the 90's Sammy's voice was just a part of me growing up and I'm forever thankful for the great music he made with Eddie and the band. I would just blast it on my walkman on the bus to escape the hell that school was hah.
Great interview! I saw he and his band in Missoula. It was awesome.
I thoroughly enjoyed this show. Thanks Bill, and Sammy, keep on rockin'
This is the best show Mr. Maher has come up with. Love all the guests and the "at home" atmosphere. Nice to see the real side of himself and his guests. Hope it goes on for years.
I love those chairs so cool seemingly patched together from other chairs but such a cool color scheme. A lot of people find it annoying that Bill tends to dominate conversations and input his own thoughts and experiences, I like it cause it's more natural, its not 1 person talking about their life and experiences its 2, i like he isn't one guy fanboying, submissively groveling or praising, it can be annoying, but its natural for a comedian with a strong opinion, to contribute to the conversation...you get a lot of bill in these podcasts, it is true but it does feel more like hanging out and no unnecessary revere and stuff... and it's called random cause the convo goes wherever it goes.
I saw his tour. A dream to hear him play Right Now.. thoroughgood i didn’t know but I recognized his songs who do you love and bad to the bone. Great show!
Love Sammy - perfect guy for Bill to have on his show. All of the Club Random shows I have seen have been great.
Except that Bill over-talked him NONSTOP!
Love your conversations with musical guests!
I love when he asks a question, then answers it before his guest.
I know. Please shut up and let Sammy speak.
I love this show. Best thing ever made for RUclips.
Saw Van Halen in 84....Saw Van Hagar in 88 at the Philly Spectrum...Loved them BOTH...
Lol, Bill didn't know a margarita was made with tequila. 😂🤣😢 The dude is brilliant, his drink is tequila, and he was unaware of that? Oh, and he doesn't understand how science works. Still, i love him. 🤷♀️
And i saw Sammy back in 78. He was opening for someone, but i don't remember who. He killed on guitar.
I've been binge watching club random since discovering it a month or so ago. Really enjoyed this one. It was so positive! Not just complaining about everything and everyone. Loved it! 😁❤️
Sammy's all the proof you need that nice guys don't finish last. Underrated as a rock star. The real deal. And knowing the Frank Lloyd Wright's acolytes by name?!?! Awesome!
That is so true!
👊
Yep. As an architect, I was impressed.
Sammy is awesome. He check,s all the box,s as far as being a beautiful human beng.
underrated? by whose measure? sammy has been and always will be one of the top two true rock singers... Cornell is the other! Each can sing a wide range and they wrote and play and.... simply awesome
I look forward to new Club Random episodes more than my hopes and dreams
Love Bill talking Beatles, but have to correct him: Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane was a double A-side single. Also please get Mark Lewisohn on the show!
Nice fact ! I thought it was a pretty impressive listings of their singles of that era, and did not know. They also did Yellow Submarine & Eleanor Rigby and Something & Come Together in that form.
Mark Farner on BOTH their shows ! !
Mark is the best Beatles writer of all time.
I’ve been a fan of the Red Rocker since I saw him open for Boston St. Patrick’s Day 1979. Great interview/conversation!
Now this is a GUEST !!😎👍🏻
Thx BILL 😁
I like that Bill is waking up. This whole video makes me happy!
Love seeing Bill loose as a goose with great guests!
This was fun. I saw Sammy with Van Halen in 92’ in Little Rock Arkansas and it was badass!🤘
A new appreciation for Sammy! Real human with a lot of heart!!
Off-the-cuff conversation with a lot of twists and turns...very refreshing and fun. Right on Bill!
Love Sammy and loved this episode. It was such a great conversation between these two about finances, love, and life. #realtalk #nobullshi*
I always smoke several joints watching Club Random. Feels like I'm sitting in my parents' basement, hanging with friends, in the 70's and 80's. But Bill's friends are waaaaay more interesting! And it's weird that no one is jumping up to change the album.
would love to see Kevin Nealon on the show - so many fantastic
guests. Kevin's hiking show/Bill's Club Random both
astonishing creations.
Club Random is seriously the BEST calm and casual and the perfect environment for a real conversation 🤙❤️⚡️
Saw Van Halen in 1992 a week before the LA riots, Sammy Eddie ALex and Michael absolutely killed it and one of the best concerts ever!
The first LP I ever bought was "Highway 61" in 1966. Love it or hate it, that album is truly a benchmark in so many ways.
Bob Dylan is great. Hagar is shit compared to Dylan.
Maybe the best episode yet. That hour passed by quicker than any other so far.
David Peel & The Lower Eastside started the Smoking Banana Peels get you high. David Peel was known for the Famous albums "Have a Marijuana" and "American Revolution" on Elektra Records. Too short, wish this was an hour or two longer...sammy is awesome
Some hardcore stuff here no holds barred. Good chat
All hail the red rocker. This was magnificent
This reminds me of conversations I might overhear with my dad and some of his friends back in the day.
Hard to believe Sammy is 74. Just 4 years younger than Mick Jagger, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. He looks unbelievably great.
Well he definitely looks better than most of that list😜
@@waynecanning4122 Yeah, and the others have managed to keep their weight down 😉

The best part....he can still sing. Saw him twice in concert in the last 3 years. He still has it.
It’s is positive attitude that keeps him young.
Loveeee Bill and Love Sammy. I worked with Sammy on a couple of episodes of Rock n Roll Road Trips whenever he come through Austin Tx (was living there at the time)...
Never conversed with him one on one, I was just part of the video crew and observed him during production, he was soo cool...Great times
Bill looking good at 66 and Sammy is 74 and looks like maybe 50 unreal! These guys are living right somehow. 🤷🏻♂️
Sammy Hagar does not look 74 but no way does he looks 50... He looks everyday of 65. I'm 47 and if he looks 50 then I look 30 lol
It's the power of the tequila.
I'm 61 ... That's why I smoke ' cloves ' and drink teqillya 😎
I'm not a big Van Halen fan but in general feel that the Roth stuff is the best and the true Van Halen. With that said Sammy is by far more likable as a person and seems really down to earth.
I’m with Sammy. I know why you want to live there man. I’m a So Cal native stuck in Arizona because I’m not loaded.✌🏻good conversation guys
Man, I'm so glad Sammy has been on my radar since the early 70s, hearing Rock The Nation on KFIG and he is a great individual.
Love Sammy as a guest.
Bill Maher loves the sound of the voice of Bill Maher
Sammy Hagar has been in how many recording studios??? He thinks that Lennon was being an asshole in the studio........I'm going with Sammy's opinion..........Bill not so much
That was awesome guys!!... great to see you guys just being guys and chillaxin'...
Love from Canada..
This is great. I'm a musician & an old fan of Politically Correct (went to 2 tapings in the 90's) Great format-this is real
I'd love to have a beer with Sammy, and Bill, and just shoot the breeze. They are both real, laid back, and intelligent. Another great podcast.
Love you both! Saw Sammy in C-bus way, way back! Thanks to the red rocker!

Holy CRAP!!! Bill Maher! You Nailed it on the first love break up.... I thought I was the only one....But I had never told anyone..... I love you, man....Thanks.
Interesting interview. Love Sammy. Such an easy going fun loving guy. Maher has potential and he’s slowly waking up to reality. But he may never truly wake up.
I’ve never seen your other shows. I like this show because I can slap down some alcohol after working 12 hours in a sand and gravel pit and feel relaxed. You are doing an awesome job with these interviews. I greatly appreciate it.
I don’t think Sammy watched the Beatles documentary. There was not tension between Paul and John. Paul was the worker who kept everyone on track. George was frustrated because he couldn’t get recognized by Paul and John, but he worked it out and was great on his own.
