I like to think that it wasn't the armor that killed Gilear, but instead, his HP is so low that the damage done to his penis was enough to kill him outright.

This is the man who went through hell and back, literally, all for his daughter that isn't even his. This is the man who has died time and time again all for his daughter. Gillear shouldn't be level 1 anymore. This guy ran people over with a van, took over the pride armor, is hung more than a horse.

I'm very glad Brennan didn't give in and make him a chosen one, he kicked ass in the end but it was literally just because he had low enough self esteem to wear magic armor
He wasn't A chosen one. He was The chosen one. He made his choice and acted to save his daughter and their friends.
In a sense he did though. For heroes come in all forms and personalities. Gilear's moment was to save his daughter. He fulfilled his duty as a father and that makes him the Chosen One. Gilear Faeth is the Chosen One.
The bad kids chose him. He IS the chosen one.

Rewatching Gilear's first battle in the season, Gorgug talked of putting Gilear in a metal box and Gilear specifically said "I think I shall fit in a suitcase easily" - the sheer callback makes this scene even more amazing for me

What makes this beautiful is that, "he's just a guy."

That is one of my favorite moments in all of D20. The crew just couldn't grasp that there was nothing special about him. "Why would you make such a cursed character" "HE'S NOT CURSED HE JUST A GUY!!!!!" Like, Brennan had been trying to get them to stop bringing him along to stuff, but I'm glad he leaned into him in later episodes.
I think that's what makes the character work.
Because, especially in fantasy, this premise is often a starting point for any hero; Just some dude,, lived their life, then.... something happen, they discover magic, a dragon comes fucks their sister and doesn't call, whatever call to greatness, evil or good, but Gilear lives in the opposite end. He dealt in diplomacy, he basically balanced the scales between entire nations, then he hit hard times, and he just became... a guy,
His story is basically an inversion of the trope, which occasionally align kinda butterflies back in occasionally and, most compellingly, realistically aligns with what a real hero is; Just a person who does their best, with what they got, for what they care about. Whether that be staying in the line of danger to help these kids do dope shit, having a heart to heart with their daughter, or putting himself on the line in only a way he can and later risking hanging dong in public.
Gilear is just a guy, but he's a good guy.

My head-canon is that nobody else could get that far in the armor. Like anyone else would have instantly been killed by the armour due to their pride. So even though Gilear died from his pride, his journey to this point made him the only one that could save the day and get the armour to at least start fighting.

Gilear using his almost supernatural woefulness to his advantage is unironically one of the most badass moments in this entire campaign
Every single time Lou says "YES-UH!", I feel the spirit of Helio fill my body. FUckin' INSANE
So, this is extra funny to me, because this is how my great uncle got his Purple Heart during the battle of Normandy. Zipped himself into his flight suit after peeing at the beginning of the battle, lol. Later in his life it was his favorite story to tell at parties, but I didn't hear about it until after he died. What a legend

Well, its kinda like if an adventurer had a person riding their back whilst they stabbed a monster. The adventurer did the killing and gets the exp, the person along for the ride doesn’t.
Gilear was just a guy trapped in a suit of armor that was acting on its own, thus the armor would get the exp.
I literally had tears streaming down my face watching Lou/Fabian's realization from the very start who was inside the armor...
This is up there with Operation: Slippery Puppet and Cugrash sacrificing himself by eating the bagel for greatest moments in D20 history
