Hi and thanks a lot. I have a problem with the present participles! I don't know what exactly function they do in every situation. For example 1. Passersby would often stop and watch in awe, eagerly tossing coins into his hat. 2. His co-star patted him on the back, saying, "Break a leg!"
These examples show them as reductions of a verb in the past progressive. You can reduce by eliminating the “be” part and subject.
