    I sit and watched this video for 40 dang minutes just to hear the car running and you are right, she sounds great! I just bought a 2003 convertible a week ago and was looking around for some ideas, you do have a very nice car...

    This is probably the best video on a C5 Corvette. You have a beautiful machine. I have a 2004 "24-hour at Le mans" . convert w/ 4 speed auto.trans. It's in almost perfect condition. Yours is just as beautiful. You really did an outstanding job on the paint. I live in Washington State and it's my daily driver. I just passed a 100,001 miles. I rarely drive it in the rain. I haven't had any issues with it. All systems are operational. I'm running Bridgestone EMTs.I like your explanation of the traction control and competitive driving modes. This is the second time I've commented.

    always noticeable when you've had a 'dry' summer with a below-average amount of rain. the indicator is the lesser relative amount of dead flying insects you accumulate on the "face"

      My mom bought a 4-th anniversary when she got cancer. That car would wind up getting rat damage in the wires so she sold it. After she beat cancer a second time and retired, she decided to get the 50th Anniversary . Car is beautiful! I've got a simple c5 convertible that was heavily modded by and NBA Coach. Got it for no more than a standard vette since the mods weren't listed.

    Change your oil before you drive it. The oil breaks down from sitting when the car is in storage. You really just want fresh oil in the motor when the car is being used.

    Competitive mode means active handling is on and traction control is disabled. The lighting on the display is illuminated by 2 black lights. One behind the HUD controls and one behind the DIC controls. The floor pan is a composite aluminum plates sandwiching balsa wood. I always use the twilight centennials. The teflon gears will eventual wear out and will need to be replaced. They make a brass gear which will last for the life of the car. I suggest getting a door sill cover to eliminate the shoe marks. The top will wear at the bottom exterior corner if you do not lift the top from rubbing the interior trunk boot. As you lower the top, watch the bottom exterior top brush against the interior boot that covers the area above the rear wheel well. When putting the top down, first push the button under the tonneau cover. I caution and recommend this because you may in the process get interrupted to open the truck while the top is up. Popping the trunk will prevent the tonneau cover from opening because the tonneau cover will bang against the trunk lid. So popping the tonneau cover up first forces before you unlatch and lift the top up to swing it to the trunk is very important when following through the processing of dropping the top and keep you from being interrupted to open the trunk because someone whats to load something in the trunk while your putting the top down. Caution, the rear glass seal will eventually fail and the rear glass will separate from the top. You need to buy a super glue to seal this later. There's a video on RUclips about this. Also the components for the active handling can fail later which is controlled by feedback on traction control, yaw sensor, and steering wheel sensor. If any of these fail, you may experience the cruse control disengage while driving the car in the highway. You may also experience the ABS brakes fire at one of the tires causing the car to yaw unexpectedly to the left or right due to errors Active Handling is getting from the failing steering wheel sensor. A failing steering wheel sensor is telling Active Handling the car is turning right or left while in fact it is not. This causes Active Handling to fire one of the brakes to yaw the car to the hypothetical direction the computer thinks you are going from the failed steering wheel sensor. Just be aware that this can occur. Never had problems with my door modules. Daytime running lights are replaced using the small brake cooling vents as access points. You will have to push the brake cooling tubing towards the back and down to clear the hand access to the lights. Like you said, use premium fuel to avoid pre-ignition. If you remember your chemistry, pressure x volume = n x r x temperature. High pressure happens in the combustion chamber because it is a high displacement motor. Any compression ratio greater that 10 to 1 is high compression. High pressure lowers the temperature required to ignite the fuel causing pre-ignition. This means that as the piston rotates to top dead center, as the piston compresses the air fuel mixture, the fuel will ignite early causing a loss of power because the piston has not passed to top of the cycle. This can abruptly push the piston back down before it goes over the top resulting in loss of power. High octane prevents pre ignition and allows the fuel to ignite later so that the piston passes top dead center. Transmission is in the back which balances a 51 to 49 weight ratio. Just some things I experienced on my C5. Purchased mine brand new in 2001. It is a 2002 magnetic red II convertible, tan top. I changed my radio bezel to double DIN so I have a full navigation DVD/Car Play unit. It links bluetooth to any iPhone or Android. Unit also plays the display from any iPhone to the unit display and uses the iPhone Maps as a navigation system. Can duplicate anything on your iPhone to the display on the unit. Play Netflix and youtube on the unit flawlessly. Also allows you to answer calls and receive text messages on the unit. The phone safely tucks away charging in the armrest.

    I have the 2002 Corvette convertible. Have the same problem you do. Had to fix right front light, didn't pop open automatically. And now right door won't lock or unlock automatically. Other than that, no problems. I'm surprised you didn't mention the part about there's no dipstick for checking transmission oil. No way to check it unless you lift the car and open screw in back and under the car while engine is running to check fluid! That is the one thing I dislike most of all!

    Always install an AGM battery because flooded cell will boil out and drip on ECM and wires. Metra sells a double DIN replacement fascia and sister company sells the interface to use factory subwoofers and wiring for double DIN stereo touchscreen.

    The LS 1 is not 375 HP. In stock form it is 350 HP and 350 lb ft of torque. The custom intake is maybe adding 10 hp. Billy Boat adds a few more HP too, but not 400. If you upped the size of the throttle body you might pick up another 5hp or so. Your paint looks swirl free and deep. What products did you use to compound, polish and wax with? It looks flawless!

    • @gobigsportscards

    I'd flush the the brakes, clutch, power steering. Diff, trans, coolant. You can get a smooth coupler at home depot for $7
    You should LEAVE the old oil in it over the winter and put fresh Amsoil Signature 5w30 in the spring! It just sits in the oil pan. I wouldn't store new oil in the car. Eagle F1 Tires are terrible! I'd get a non run flat asap! R8888Rs hook up much better. Active handling does nothing. Only if you hold that button down for 5 sec, in competitive driving, that turns traction control off on the rear wheels, but leaves active handling On, so the car will brake for you in corners to keep the car straight. To get in the car put your left leg in first. The stock seats are just about the worst thing in that car, besides the shifter. C6 is a cheap upgrade for a shifter, MGW's are nice. I'd like to watch accordion lessons over this. Enjoy your car!

  • @megaman4201
    @megaman4201 5 лет назад +1

    I agree completely with MrBizike, the oil should definitely be changed when you're ready to start driving the car again, not before putting it away for the winter, it serves no purpose at that point . After sitting for 6 months you would want to change your oil whether it's been driven or not... on something like your Vette that you obviously care about. Oil does degrade over time as well as other factors such as moisture and humidity contamination.
    If the car is your baby and you want to go over the top then you could change it before putting it away and then change it again in the spring before you resume driving.😍

    Picking up my 03 50th AE convertible in a couple days. Great tips, thanks. My only complaint is I'm literally nauseous from watching this due to all the fast moving of the camera. I'm guessing you're hyperactive and just can't hold still or move slowly. Maybe use a gimbal to stabilize your camera if you must move around so much/fast. Also, a parts list in the description would be good. Really interested in doing an intake and exhaust conversion and have heard some good things about the B&B brand. Not sure I've heard that much about the intake though. Do you have a model or part number on that? I'd like to do some research on it.

    Hi Dave thanks for your video. I own a 1999 C5 for half a year now and like it a lot. The HUD and traction control tricks I don't know about. Like the air intake mod. Is it a kit ?

      Best C5 video. I have watched so many videos. I am going to buy a C5. Finally a helpful video. Every other video is about how they modified their C5. Thank for explaining the bells n whistles of the C5.
