I just inherited my late father's 99 C5 with 125000 miles. I went with him to 5 different dealerships in 99 before he selected this car. It was one hell of a father/son day and I'm honored to now own it. I just started brining it back to its glory, but to be honest, it's in really good shape considering its age. I love the HUD and use it quite a bit.
I use my HUD all the time. I love the way the C5 has that nice feeling of old school cars and a touch of new technology as well. Being a techy guy, I love gadgets like the HUD.
Only owned the car for 3 months. When I bought it, the HUD was pointed out. Can’t believe how much I like this feature. Also can’t believe how much I love this car and the tons of content to keep it running great. I’ve updated all of back end lights to LEDs, installed a Pioneer infotainment system vs old radio/CD player, new headlights and DRLs in garage waiting for installation. New Michelin rubber and Interstate battery. I’ve serviced main grounding points. Unfortunately my garage is really small and when I moved last year I gave floor jack, creeper and jack stands to a guy in my old neighborhood 😣. Tough to do some things if you can’t get car up in the air.
I also use my HUD all the time, too. At first, it gave me a headache. But, after a while, I found I couldn't live without it. I have a C6Z.I just wish my lateral G meter had more 'peak hold' as when I finally get to look at it, it's dropped back to 0 Gs
I love my C5 5Oth vert. and the engine growl, top down driving experience, and tech like the HUD along with its styling (pop up head lights & great curves) combines the past and present beautifully in my opinion.
I am a brand new C5 owner who immediately realized one thing about owning them. Everybody seems to think you're rich. When I got mine all I heard was must be nice, wow look at Big Daddy war bucks. When I tell them it cost me less than the new Kia econo Box POS in their driveway their jaws just drop.
I’ve owned the C5 less than a year and so far I am fluent in the LMC5 modification, familiar with the ABS light flicker, puzzled by the phantom squeaks, befuddled by all of the seat lumbar bags being blown, amazed at the absolute dedicated following the C5 has, grateful for the trailblazers that post videos on its quirkiness and quick fixes. I cannot believe I am getting 25 (plus) MPG, AND FINALLY, I LOVE EVERY INCH OF MY 2000 metalic pewter coupe.
Dang, I wasn't sure how your story was going to end but I'm glad you like it despite its quirks that have popped up through the couple decades of its life 😁
@@Toys4Life The car is amazing. Mine is an automatic. Just so you know, I did the LMC5 mod, replaced all of the seat lumbar bags, recertified as many grounds/bonding points as I could find and that fixed the ABS light from flickering. It came with a very nice Kenwood stereo (installed). I added the back-up camera to the stereo. I removed the rear view mirror and replaced it with a Wolfbox brand dashcam. The Wolfbox brand Dashcam looks like a mirror and actually functions as a mirror even with the LED monitor off. Other stuff was to remove the Magna flow mufflers and Vararam intake system. The Magna flows sounded really nice and the Vararam was effective. I wanted the car to be all stock so went back to all OEM exhaust and intake. I found a set of OEM rims (A little old lady story) that looked brand new complete with lug nuts and the adapter. The rims had tires on them dated 1999 (a three digit year code). She told me she bought her C5 new in 2000 and took the OEM rims off after a year and installed custom rims. This June I am packing up a few things and heading to the California coast via Washington and Oregon….. again, I enjoyed your video.
Heads up is always on mph, rpm, coolant temp. We love our C5 such a great cruiser No one ever wants to race us maybe it’s the exhaust 😂 but we always get smiles and thumbs up
Cars parking next to you when there’s many empty spots drives me crazy! Maybe they are filling some insecurity issues! Your videos are great! I don’t own a Corvette but for some reason I’m watching tons of Corvette videos, looking online for used C6’s near me, and even ordered the “Corvette Black Book”. Wife asked me “are you going to buy a Corvette”? I said “well ya never know”!
My HUD was getting dull. Saw a few vids on u tube removing dash to get to the hud and resolder connections. My c5 is 20 years old and it occurred to me had the cover screen ever been cleaned. Got some glass cleaner and a micro towel and gave it a good wipe. Wow, bright as new.
hud i use , every car should have it, hud should be standard equipment on all cars for saftey, you never have to take your eyes off the road to look at your speed , etc.
I havent had my roof off that often, but I enjoy the light it lets in. Most of my driving is short trips, so I dont bother taking it off. Everytime I get into a vehicle with a solid roof I feel like I entered a cave. Anytime I went from T tops to solid roof, it took a long while to get used to a much darker interior space. I forget I have hud sometimes during the daytime, but Im reminded everytime I start the car in the dark. I do love it, and I wasnt going to buy a C5 without it. Same with the roof.
One of the benefits of living ib Florida is that winter is never a factor, my supercharged C5 Z06 and motorcycles get used year round. You make great, informative videos.
Have an 02 with 19k. Learned the hard way in 04 that leaving the car parked for 4 weeks will kill the battery, hard. Run a trickle charger all the time now. Got 10 years out of my second ACDelco battery. Use HUD for mph only all the time. Take targatop out all the time in summer, kids love it. My C5 is completely original, but watching your channel does make me think hard about adding mods like you have. Thanks. CH
I don't take my top off a lot either. But I love the HUD. I wished all my cars had it. I also charge my battery after two weeks of sitting. My biggest problem is the drivers seat has worn out. 110k miles on a "02" and it looks brand new.
I would look at the HUD, if I could see it. It actually does work and did work on the test drive. As I was driving it over 10 hours from where I bought it back home the HUD kept dipping lower and lower on the windshield until I couldn't see it anymore. If you look straight down through the windshield you can see it working but the pivot has broke which means the whole dash has to come out to make a 25 cent repair. Not worth the trouble IMHO but I did use it while I could.
If you find yourself overlooking the HUD, you probably have it too low. The "fallen mirror" problem is common in these cars, but not to worry, we have a video for that!
@@Toys4Life I thought I just wasn't tall enough for the C5 when I bought it. The height adjustment would work but only a small amount. It wasn't until it fixed the HUD mirror that I realized how high the display could go. I absolutely love using it now
Excellent video! I have an '02 coup with manual, and loved the cup holder bit. Have that happen with a full cup of coffee and you never make that mistake again. Extra bonus if the lid stays on. It's also quite the challenge when you're picking up multiple drinks and get one of those cardboard cup holders which in my opinion are just as precarious as the stock C-5 holder. Only thing you can do is set them in the passenger seat and then try to drive a manual home with your right hand spread across the tops of 3-4 cups of whatever...never made that mistake again either. Speaking of drive throughs, sometimes I don't even activate the sensor because the car sits so low, and it's like they don't even see me from inside when I pull up to the window. I have to crane my head out the window and it's like looking up at the Empire State building. This was my first HUD car and I completely rely on it. In fact, I find myself the opposite of what you were saying and can't train my eyes to look down at the speed-o now to save my life. My top comes off as much as the weather will allow. Love the open air feeling and think it gives the car an exotic feel. There is also a thing I jokingly call, "park bating," which is when you leave an open parking space on either side...critical on the driver's side so you can get the door open enough to perform the yoga movements required to get in and out of the thing, and someone will ALWAYS (or seemingly always) find the driver's side space first. Been scratching my head forever on that one. Thanks for the C-5 content. Yours is gorgeous....but then again....I am a little partial to the "5."
I had a '98 coupe that always had the top off. Have a 2000 Vert with the heads up display and use it every time I drive it. I've found that the large metal tumblers fit snugly in the drink holder. I only drink water just in case though. I bought the "Corvette" tumbler and it does tumble! It became a pencil holder on my desk. I put an aftermarket stereo in with a huge capacitor and it would drain my battery. I've been using a battery tender and my Die Hard AGM is over 15 years old and still going. All time record for me. The C5 was my dream car the moment I saw it in '97. Only a '67 427 Tri-Power Vert will ever replace it!
Number one: I use the HUD all the time. I am sometimes amused when I think of it - in the 1970s I worked on early HUD designs for Jet fighters. Finding it in my 21 year old Corvette is kind of fun. Number two: here in the Bay Area of CA, we don't have to worry about putting away our toys in the winter. There are a few rainy days, but the days of sunshine outnumber them most of the time. So the C5 and the '30 Model A Ford both get used nearly every week for short runs and longer trips as well. Number three: I almost never take off the roof either. When the daughters (or granddaughters) are in town and want to use the car I help them take off the roof
I really enjoyed this installment! I laughed when the cup launched and when the SUV proved that people enjoy being morons as long as they either A. Think nobody is looking or B. Think they don't know you. My boss actually did it to me 195 miles from home on Cape Cod. The look on his face when I got out was beyond priceless 😂 He threw me a $100 bill and said "I'm an a--hole, and sometimes I get called on it, you dinner is on me" 🤣🤣 true story.
I use HUD when driving in zones where I feel its possible to get tickets. Just ran up the Blue Ridge Parkway and used it the whole way. On the freeway w/cruise on.. I turn it off to help make it last longer.
Love your videos! Thank for what you put into them. I just purchased a 2000 C5 Corvette. Absolutely love it. Once in awhile the ABS light will come on which I know to be a problem with this year. One thing I have not been able to figure out is this: When I set my cruise control - say on "40" it will work but read on the digital display "80". If I set it at "55" it will read "110" and then shut off. I have checked everything I know - reset all the codes, etc. Have you ever heard of anything like this before - I assume someone out there has experienced this with their C5?
I have not. I would try posting this in the Corvette Forum C5 Tech page - search there as well there are a couple of decades of past posts that can be found the might yield a similar complaint and resolution.
@@Toys4Life Thank you. I have searched the Corvette forum and even posted my problem but am still stuck. A few recommendations of solutions I have already tried. Someone mentioned going to the dealer and having them “reflash” the computer to factory settings. Do you have any thoughts on that?
I love that every jack wagon on the road wants a go. It reminds me of when i was the jack wagon that would try to box with anyone that i thought might. Plus then i can put them down without feeling too bad. Its not picking on them if they started it right?
Mine's a C6, but I pull the top off every nice day. I love cruising topless with the windows down. As for the HUD, I now feel crippled when I drive a car that doesn't have it! It's so intuitive, and makes driving so much more enjoyable when I don't have to keep adjusting to interior darkness vs exterior brighness, and constantly refocussing.
Well, with toys like that, all the more reason to at least try on autocross or something? Speaking about a cross, I need to try one myself? What are you doing next weekend? Lol
I use my HUD intuitively, and rarely if ever look at the speedometer. It's not forced, just innately takes my attention and keeps my eyes on the road...
I’ve had my C5 convertible for about 3 years I have had my balance or replaced with a summit balancer but why does GM continue to use balancers with the rubber that comes apart
C6 owner, but many of the same apply... Got a full exhaust with a pretty wicked cam, so not many people really mess with me... except Mustang owners. My roof pretty much stays off unless it's either too cold, or I'm running errands where I don't want to leave the car open while I'm not around. I live in the midwest, and I drive mine in the winter. As long as there is no snow on the streets, and it's above 35 degrees for the tires, I will try and get it out at least a couple times a month to get all of the fluids up to temp for about an hour or so. As far as the HUD, I also found myself not using it. Driving for 38 years kinda ingrains certain habits, instinctively looking down at gauges is definitely one of them, and I was actually getting pissed at myself for not using it. I found that covering the top of the tach & speedometer with post-it notes forced my eyes to the HUD if I wanted to know what was going on. After a while... became habit.
When I first bought my c5 the HUD didn’t work, it was one of the first thing I did, ripping apart the dash and repairing it and now it’s all I use I rarely use the cluster gauges
I just got my 2nd C5, bu 7:16 t it's my 11th Vette since I was 18. I hit 70 in 2 weeks. I still drive it like a performance sports car, not a cruising machine.
I bought a new Mazda RX-7 in 1983 and drove it for 16 years. What I liked about it was that it was tight and responsive even though only 100 HP. When I bought the ‘99 C5 the things that I had to get used to were the squeaks and rattles and that it was a big sports car. But I have learned to enjoy it, now for 11 years.
I did a brake job on a RX7 back in the late '80s, the same day I did a brake job on a Pontiac Fiero and It blew my mind how much beefier the fiero's suspension components were, the Japanese clearly engineered it to be only as strong as it needed to be, which helps make it light in nimble. If you're a parts were way overbuilt, and heavy. I'm sure they were sturdier for the long run, but the stock Fiero is like 2, 700 lb. You should get another RX-7, totally different experience. Cars are awesome Thanks for sharing!
@@Toys4Life The RX-7 only weighs 2400 pounds contributing to its nimbleness. Jay Leno just reviewed the RX-7 and really liked it. I bought it for the novel rotary engine. I’m thinking about selling my 99 C5 with 89,000 miles that has had the oil pressure gauge stuck on 80 psi for 11 years lol. After watching your great educational and inspiring videos now I know how to fix it.
I have a 2003 Z06 and I use the Heads up display all the time. I grew up in the 80s so I wasn't used to HUD but I had no problem switching to it. I have friends like u that don't use hud so you aren't weird. Haha
@@Toys4Life be careful...u may get too use to it like me. When I get in my Avalanche truck it bothers me that I have to look all the way down to the dash now...lol
A simple question to answer the HUD question - how many heads do you have? It relieves you from having to look down at the gauges, keeping your head up and seeing where you're going.
I've had my 2004 for 11 years. The biggest problem has been getting rid of the magnetic ride control (F55) since my shocks went bad and there are no replacements available. I finally got my local dealer to do the F55 delete process that is available online and put on a set of Z06 shocks.
Just done the magnetic ride shocks myself.Wanted to keep the car original but my wallet took a big hit.Happy with the results but could have used the money on a sweet vacation.
i love the c5 i was at a hotel parking garage which is visited by a lot of rich people on vacation and i saw some g wagons a nissan gtr and gt500 mustangs but what caught my eye was the red c5 parked in the corner
I remove my taraga top everyday! I use my HUD display as a landmark between my vette and the indicators on the road. Helps me effortlessly keep the car where I want it on the lane!
I love and watch as many of your videos as often as I can. Now I'm just 2 minutes into the video but I have to say this, and in so doing let me add that I am on my 5th Corvette- 1970 LT1, 1973 350ci, 1987 which I built an all new 350 w/425+hp, 1995 and now my 2000 C5 Z-51 with T-56 in Light Pewter. Ok back to what you said about winter months. Since I only own a Corvette and any that I have named including having moved from San Francisco to Portland, Oregon in 2016 in my 1987, then I got the 1995 (in 2018 after the 87 was totaled by a T-boned stop sign runner) and for 2 1/2 years now my C5 I drive year round. No matter the weather and driving like someone with sense I have never, ever had an accident nor slipped and slid around at all. If I had a beater for winter use and my garage empty enough to park in I would when the weather is bad enough. That said, your videos are always spot on. Thank you. Oh, and in the summer when I get off work and as HOT it can get here and has the past few years I immediatly take my roof off for the drive home. Weekend cruise with the wife, mind you she has to hold onto her hat, but that top is off for some cruises to the coast and up and down the pacific coast line. And I rely on my HUD.
Love my c5 vert. Threw some sticky Nitto's on that beast and have no regrets. #1thing? Competitive driving mode brake torgue burn outs and that shift to second gear! Zoom zoom
Bought my 2001 black coupe in 2000 - it has been my only car since then. Since I work out of my home, I never take it out when the weather is bad, so I only have about 75,000 miles. Always garaged overnight and probably 75% of my miles are after dark, so the car looks actually better than the day I bought it! I spend more time detailing it than driving it. Use the HUD almost exclusively and only take off the top to clean the weather seals. Biggest nuisance is the front air dam dragging - on my 4th one.
Use my HUD all the time. My second C5. First was 04 Convertible. This is a Z06 and, the person that I bought it from didn't even know it was there until I dialed it up 😂
What made me get rid of my 2008 C6 with 16k miles (I was 2nd owner) was the roof squeaking over every single bump (painted and glass roof), too low to the ground as it was always paranoia going anywhere new and parasitic drain. I tried everything from pulling the plug on OnStar completely, to removing fuses. It all started around the time I installed a Pioneer radio with the proper $100 wiring harness. The Nav system from that year was terrible as expected, so the stock radio had to go. Also the gear ratio on the standard Vettes are not to my liking and you really notice the feel of those wide tires up front. I was happy to get rid of that car and moved to my GT500. The GT500 is much more exciting to drive! :) Sure its more modified, but it is what it is. Amazing what an intake, tune, 3.73 gears and a smaller pulley will do.
Great video, always a treat to see you do a new clip. Two thoughts: 1) I occasionally check out Autotrader to look for C6's (another 80 horsepower is entircing), but then I consider I have a so far excellent running C5 with no problems, and then snap back to reality. I don't beat up my car, so what would another 80 hp and $15,000 do for me? 2) I have the roof package which gives a bit of open feel, and the buffeting at speed with the top off is a turn off. Just sayin". Keep the videos coming!
I have a 98 vert and the top is down more than it is up. No HUD so I can't do that. Winter hasn't bothered me. With Michelins, I I have driven in Chicagoland snow until the spoiler acts like a plow. Works great as a daily driver. Has about 258k miles now.
Never drove with my top off, at all. Personally the sun's too bright and it's too hot 99% of the time. Love the HUD though, just got it set to speedo though.
The heads up display is great. I use it constantly, its really nice to be able to be aware of exactly how fast I'm going while still watching the road.
I've owned a 99 for 17 years and a 14 for the last 3 of those. Not having to take my eyes off the road is vital, especially on the track. I use HUD exclusively.
One thing that has me hesitant about a corvette in north Florida is that they're not many of them in the area I'm in. People seem to love JDM, Mustangs, and camaros here. So I know even more would want to race or ask a whole bunch of questions about a corvette.
I hated the way my C5 body rolled into corners. Easily solved by installing Z06 sway bars front and back. Hated the radio, replaced it with a nav/radio with XM. Loved my heads up.
Every chance I get I take the top off of mine, I'd rather blast the heat or AC and keep the top off. The targa top is why I'll never buy a C5Z06 again. I didn't think I'd miss it, but I really did when I drove my Z06. (C5Z06 suspension parts are cheap and easy to install IMO) I noticed the biggest difference with changing out the sway bars with moog solid end links.
I use the HUD every time. Touch "display" for 5 seconds and it goes to MPH only. If there is a fault in any system display, the HUD will flag "Check Gauges". This is US Air-force technology and I love it!
I actually daily drove my c5 through illinois winter last year and it wasn’t thaaaaat bad. This year I definitely bought a $2000 beater with a heater though
Use my HUD all the time one of the best feature ever. I use it at the track every time I go has been a really help find that perfect speed entering a corner.
Could you give a more detailed video on basic horse power improvements for modest but worthwhile investments or is it just intake and muflers for c5 convertibles?
Look up the zip tie mod on my channel, that's a good inexpensive mod. If you don't mind a little extra heat, speed engineering headers might be worth it if you can do it yourself and are handy. But yes, I should do a video on this exact topic soon!!
I don’t remove my top either. I don’t know why , I just don’t. As for the heads up , it’s ok but what I don’t like is during the day the square or rectangle opening reflects on the windshield and I do not like that at all. To eliminate it I bought a dash pad that is for a dash without the heads up. My car rarely sets in the sun so I wasn’t concerned with damage to the dash but I got rid of that reflection.
Reading the HUD question: HELL YES I DO! I drove a 2009 Honda Civic for nearly a decade! (anyone who has driven one knows what I'm talking about) So it feels natural in my C5 to focus purely on that HUD!
Too funny. Especially the parking video. I love the C5 Corvette and hope to get one soon. Thank you for sharing all the things that'll happen from owning a car like this. 😂
I have at least one asshat pull up and want to race EVERY time I'm out with the C5. You also nailed it with with roof, the HUD is always on and it is probably largely responsible for my record of zero tickets with My 5. (Knock on wood)
I love the heads up display...only use the mile per hour only page...I love this feature because when I drive more spirited I don't have to look down at the guage....love this car....sold my Lexus and never looked back.
I don't usually use my heads up display because I can't see it wearing sunglasses. It has to be a cloudy day. Also I believe GM advises that putting your manual transmission in reverse when parking with reduce to battery drain.
having had both the coupe and then a very, i rarely pop the top of the coupe yet i drop the roof on the vert all the time. Maybe it’s the wind buffeting…
I've got an '03/50th Anniversary Edition convertible, have had for 9 years and just tapped 35k miles. The top is only up 1% of the time (other than storage) but it's a Sunday driver with many weekends spend way north at a cottage which calls for off-road truck. But I use the HUD constantly. Perhaps the only thing I wish Chevy had done was put a light sensor on it much like the auto darkening rear view mirror. I find myself constantly turning up the brightness during the day and dimming at night.
I use to have a 99 c5 base with a ls7 but use HUD all the time with t top off.. but only issue I hear from c5 is oil pressure gauge go out a lot …now have project c5z06 now
I don’t have a hud and i take the hard top off every chance i get. It’s the main reason i got a non z06! Did you ever make the parts availability video you mentioned?
I might as well face it I'm addicted to HUD. I use it constantly. In fact, looking at the dash gauges confuses me. This is after having owned a C5 since 2001. I've had several other Vettes during that time (92, 99, 03, 08, 15) and my head scratcher is ... Since the C5 has such a low-profile windshield compared to other Vette generations, why even both having sun visors in them? I have never once used mine to block the sun and they actually impede on the already narrow vertical viewing angle. I currently drive an 03 Convertible Anniversary Edition and I've been debating deleting the sun visors (which are still like new) just to get better visibility. And since I drive with my vert top down 90% of the time, tucking them inward, which looks nicer, just eats up more of the viewing space.
I have a C5 , its has the targa top and its a bright metalflake orange. I have the stock wheels on it. I think black would look great though. Should I platidip them or replace them?

My HUD was getting dull. Saw a few vids on u tube removing dash to get to the hud and resolder connections. My c5 is 20 years old and it occurred to me had the cover screen ever been cleaned. Got some glass cleaner and a micro towel and gave it a good wipe. Wow, bright as new.
hud i use , every car should have it, hud should be standard equipment on all cars for saftey, you never have to take your eyes off the road to look at your speed , etc.
Hi, I use the head up display ALL the time!
I am jealous of you guys from Nov to March ever year! Thanks for the kind words too!
Even in north Florida as long as there isn't frost I would be fine with a corvette.
Thanks. CH
Thank you !
I don't take my top off a lot either. But I love the HUD. I wished all my cars had it. I also charge my battery after two weeks of sitting. My biggest problem is the drivers seat has worn out. 110k miles on a "02" and it looks brand new.
I really need to put a sticky note on the steering wheel - "Look at HUD"! lol
The hud is nice, other than being a constant reminder of just how much I'm exceeding the speed limit🏁⚜️
Lol
I would look at the HUD, if I could see it. It actually does work and did work on the test drive. As I was driving it over 10 hours from where I bought it back home the HUD kept dipping lower and lower on the windshield until I couldn't see it anymore. If you look straight down through the windshield you can see it working but the pivot has broke which means the whole dash has to come out to make a 25 cent repair. Not worth the trouble IMHO but I did use it while I could.
I just put the speed on mine, I can't see all the little stuff.
If you find yourself overlooking the HUD, you probably have it too low. The "fallen mirror" problem is common in these cars, but not to worry, we have a video for that!
I think mine's fine, my brain is just trained wrong. But hey brother, post a link if it's a problem you have a fix to someone might need it!
ruclips.net/video/CRjiDYQnjwA/видео.html
@@Toys4Life I thought I just wasn't tall enough for the C5 when I bought it. The height adjustment would work but only a small amount. It wasn't until it fixed the HUD mirror that I realized how high the display could go. I absolutely love using it now
I have a C6 with head up display i catch myself. Looking down at the dash to lol
Hard habit to break!
5:25 every Corvette have the Gearbox in the Rear, not only the Manual Version.
You are correct - I didn't mean to imply auto's were in the front - but after re-watching it, it does sound like that. Thanks for pointing it out!
@@Toys4Life 👍 🍻
Excellent video!
Hey, thanks for the long interesting comment! Appreciate it.
Nice! Also, your Die Hard AGM comment gives me hope!! I have a D.H. AGM as well and it is 8+ years old - Maybe it has a few more left (:-)
That is cool, $100 is a nice apology!
I use HUD when driving in zones where I feel its possible to get tickets. Just ran up the Blue Ridge Parkway and used it the whole way.
On the freeway w/cruise on.. I turn it off to help make it last longer.
That's awesome!
Push the kph to mph
@@Sam-mv9he thanks. I’ve tried that but will give it another shot.
Plus, I think you have a g meter!
@@Toys4Life I do, but I've never been to the track, so I haven't used it.
Well, with toys like that, all the more reason to at least try on autocross or something? Speaking about a cross, I need to try one myself? What are you doing next weekend? Lol
@@Toys4Life I plan on autocrossing, but she's still too new to me! I'm road-tripping Ottawa to Winnipeg on Friday!
Well Jim, they build one of the most powerful and beautiful cars in the world. But they still need to work on certain things.
I use the HUD all the time! Really like it. I keep it barely visible though. So have to adjust it depending on night or day driving.
Living in southern Canada, bringing it out after winter is a great feeling.
INDEED!
I use my HUD everyday. Love it.
I just got my 2nd C5, bu 7:16 t it's my 11th Vette since I was 18. I hit 70 in 2 weeks. I still drive it like a performance sports car, not a cruising machine.
I love it! Keep it up sir 💪
Southern California, corvette weather 363 days a year. We might get 2 days of rain.
Nice 👍
Haha
Oh man, we both grew up in the 80s so that proves my brain should be capable of it, now I just need to figure it out!
True!
2001/millennium yellow/targa top owner here. Yeah, everyone wants to challenge you in it. From newer corvette owners, to Hondas, to higher end cars.
Yep!
Its almost always trucks or mustangs where i live, fun to embarrass them every now and then though.
Your channel is awesome!
Hey, thanks for that-I appreciate it sir!
i love the c5 i was at a hotel parking garage which is visited by a lot of rich people on vacation and i saw some g wagons a nissan gtr and gt500 mustangs but what caught my eye was the red c5 parked in the corner
Bingo!
I remove my taraga top everyday! I use my HUD display as a landmark between my vette and the indicators on the road. Helps me effortlessly keep the car where I want it on the lane!
Dang!
(:-)
Your videos are so enjoyable man! Thanks for giving us your time and effort! Keep up the great work 👍
I appreciate that!
Sounds like you're taking full advantage of everything you see if I have to offer, what an incredible machine!
Dude. Dead on! Perfect. I’d add the back end is a dirt magnet. The parking lot thing is so so true. Glad I’m not the only one.
Dirt magnet 4 sure... Wash her often!
Had display on 2018 Mazda 3. Loved!
Just bought dream 2000 Vette a few months ago,. Love the heads up! It freaks out in the bright sun though ...
My C6 is the first car I've owned with a H.U.D. and I always use it!!!
Thank you - I appreciate it!
I have a 98 vert and the top is down more than it is up. No HUD so I can't do that. Winter hasn't bothered me. With Michelins, I I have driven in Chicagoland snow until the spoiler acts like a plow. Works great as a daily driver. Has about 258k miles now.
Oh my god, I can't imagine driving mine in the Minnesota winter... That's why God made crappy cars, LOL..
Never drove with my top off, at all. Personally the sun's too bright and it's too hot 99% of the time. Love the HUD though, just got it set to speedo though.
Hard to see in bright daylight 4 sure!
I always use my Hud for speed but use my tach for shifting
Nice!
I use my HUD all the time, every time. I love it! Why wouldn't someone use it...
I have no idea, but I can't get myself used to it, maybe it's a personality defect.???
I love my heads-up display. All three of my current cars have them. Not sure I would get another car without it.
The heads up display is great. I use it constantly, its really nice to be able to be aware of exactly how fast I'm going while still watching the road.
Absolutely!
I thought FL was Corvette Central? b/t/w, what is JDM?
@@Toys4Life Japanese Domestic Market
@@Toys4Life I'm just seeing this. For central and South Florida that's VERY true. Around Tallahassee,FL that's not the case. It's rare to see them.
Very interesting, thank you!
I hated the way my C5 body rolled into corners. Easily solved by installing Z06 sway bars front and back. Hated the radio, replaced it with a nav/radio with XM. Loved my heads up.
Nice!
I’ve owned atleast 25 c5’s in the past 20 years and I’ve loved them all!
Why so many?
Every chance I get I take the top off of mine, I'd rather blast the heat or AC and keep the top off. The targa top is why I'll never buy a C5Z06 again. I didn't think I'd miss it, but I really did when I drove my Z06. (C5Z06 suspension parts are cheap and easy to install IMO) I noticed the biggest difference with changing out the sway bars with moog solid end links.
I have a '98 so it has no HUD. You don't miss what you never had😋
I use the HUD every time. Touch "display" for 5 seconds and it goes to MPH only. If there is a fault in any system display, the HUD will flag "Check Gauges". This is US Air-force technology and I love it!
USAF!
I actually daily drove my c5 through illinois winter last year and it wasn’t thaaaaat bad. This year I definitely bought a $2000 beater with a heater though
Thank you for buying a beater!!
Use my HUD all the time one of the best feature ever. I use it at the track every time I go has been a really help find that perfect speed entering a corner.
I can totally see how that would be useful entering the corner at speed!
I use the HUD alot especially at night.
Weather permitting I might take the top off twice a month.
👍
Thanks for watching!
@@Toys4Life You’re welcome.
I have at least one asshat pull up and want to race EVERY time I'm out with the C5. You also nailed it with with roof, the HUD is always on and it is probably largely responsible for my record of zero tickets with My 5.
(Knock on wood)
You better knock on wood! Lol
Cops are absolutely merciless when it comes to speeding where I live, the HUD has saved me many times.
Nice!
Hmmm. What circuit shuts off only in reverse I wonder???
Not sure but this comes from the April 2023 edition of Tech Nerd in the Corvette magazine in the reply to the question named "Current Affair".
Yeah I hardly ever pull the top off and always use the hud but then when I jump into my Tahoe I'm looking for it on the windshield.
Lol
yeah my husband and I both have a corvette 1994 mine and a 2001 his and locking our cars up is the reason we live in AZ :)
Depending on where you live in az though, don't you kind of have to lock them up in July and August or they'll melt 🫠😅?
I use HUD about 80% of the time in my C5 and it's my only vehicle with that option.
That's pretty good, you've trained yourself, I failed (:-(
Love the C5!!!
Amen!
having had both the coupe and then a very, i rarely pop the top of the coupe yet i drop the roof on the vert all the time. Maybe it’s the wind buffeting…
Good point - vert would much quieter I would think?
I always use my HUD, I have owed it for 11 years so far.
My oil pressure sensor keeps failing and as you know it is very difficult to access.
I cut above the oil sending unit and replaced myself for $40
Don't most people pop off the intake manifold?
I set the HD for MPH only . Yes I use it and miss it on my other cars
Just love all your videos, keep up the good work! Dr. B
Appreciate the feedback - thank you!
Thank goodness you have a manual as well. The fact that GM only makes the new ones in automatic is beyond unacceptable
I don’t want any future car I will own to not have a HUD; love the feature in any car.
enough said!
Interesting point!
I use to have a 99 c5 base with a ls7 but use HUD all the time with t top off.. but only issue I hear from c5 is oil pressure gauge go out a lot …now have project c5z06 now
I think im gonna pick up a c5 this winter. Prices are good. For 20k you can get a very nice lower milage car here in pa.
Nice 👍
I don’t have a hud and i take the hard top off every chance i get. It’s the main reason i got a non z06! Did you ever make the parts availability video you mentioned?
It's on the list, thanks for the reminder!
Huge HUD user. Love that vs the dash of my C6Z
I need to check out the C5 vs C6 HUD differences - I think the 6 has a g-meter too - right?
@@Toys4Life yes it does have one. It’s an interesting thing. I’m sure many have put it in a ditch trying for 1G lol
Heads-up I use all the time. Same on my Denali
Another vote for used often and USEFUL - thanks!
I have a C5 , its has the targa top and its a bright metalflake orange. I have the stock wheels on it. I think black would look great though. Should I platidip them or replace them?
How about the removable black paint - in case you want to go back to stock in a year or two?
At 5:09 you turned engine off. It made a grinding sound - occassionally my 2001 Z06 does this. Is that normal?
Yes for manual cars.
I just wanna know where you got the C5 banner on your garage door!? The one behind you at the end with the American flag theme! Awesome!
I was going to try to give you a link, but I see that they're sold out on Amazon now. Thanks for the compliment!
