Man, you are right on. 2004 was such a great year for the sport even though Busch won the title. Gordon was dominant, and the NASCAR video games were amazing.
@@sorenauto2525my one question is how did Powerade get in there. Given at the time the track was still Pepsi product and Powerade was a Coke product at the time.
Wasn't Jeff fined for doing that? I mean, I'm not a Gordon hater but Johnson got fined for blocking the Gatorade sign and put Lowe's in front of it in victory lane after he won a race years ago.
Probably, though that may be that his sponsors also didn't like Coke products on a Pepsi car. I think Johnson was also a Pepsi car, but they didn't push it as much as Gordon. For all we know, Pepsi was willing to pay the fines.
This really reminds me of how exciting NASCAR was back then. Every race seemed to mean something. Plate races were especially cool back then when you had to be pretty good at it to win.
Best part is... This was at the height of the controversy around the Gatorade (Pepsi) drivers blatantly knocking the Powerade bottles off of their cars in victory lane. (I think there's a compilation video of them doing it somewhere.) I remember NASCAR putting the drivers in a tough spot by putting Coke (Powerade) products on their Pepsi sponsored cars and it didn't sit well. It all came to a head when NASCAR demanded the drivers leave the Powerade bottles on their cars or face fines for knocking them off... So at Jimmie Johnson's next win, he didn't touch the bottles.. But he did place a large cardboard Lowe's sign in front of the bottles to obscure the camera's vision of them... It was hilarious, because he obeyed NASCAR and never touched the bottles... But that didn't stop NASCAR from fining him 10,000 for "improper use of cardboard." So it's subtle, but poetic that in this video, you also get a small nod to the other sponsor war going on at the same time... It was such a great time to be a fan of the sport.
Jeff is the champ of upset changes. He was supposed to be a Ford driver but no one would take Ray, then Coke wasn’t about that Hendrick life and Jeff got Pepsi
God. Thanks for transporting me back to the days of watching NASCAR as a kid. And the broadcast sounds they had for the graphic alerts.... Man... I feel like a kid again cheering on Jeff
I remember watching this live. I did not get my coupon for my free two liter. The reason is that right after Jeff won the race I had to leave and rush to the hospital because my mother-in-law had passed away. This video is the only time that I have ever seen Jeff’s victory lane intervention. My mother-in-law was a Jeff Gordon fan also.
I'm a 35 year old nascar fan and Gordon was my hero. Thanks for the video. I've been watching your videos for awhile and when I seen a 24 video, I got excited. Lol
As a Gordon fan my favorite wins are from that infamous Talladega race and when he came back and won from 3 laps down at Martinsville in 2005. The good old days right in the middle of my childhood. Gen. 4 cars, Jeff Gordon young and domint, and Nascar Thunder series for the PS2. Miss those days.
How is it possible that the NASCAR video games were so much better 20 years ago than today? I used to play them for hours. I can't last 20 minutes with the newer ones we have now.
My favorite is when he absolutely dominated Talladega to the point he was just passing people without help and even when tandem draft passed he drove right past them like they were moving in slow motion 😭
Yes that was also my Talladega race my self. We’re he was also pull out of the draft and pull away we’re 2 cars we’re drafting as hard as they could to try catch up to Jeff Gordon since 2 cars or more supposed to be faster. But didn’t work out that 24 Hendricks car was beyond a rocket that day.

This is when they really started catching up to DEI with their plate engines. Thank God for that cause it made for some awesome races between the 24 and 8!
And now I feel betrayed, because Chase Elliott moved over to coca cola 😭 The only good thing that could come from that is a red #9 throwback to one of his dad's paint jobs, but I'm not happy about Chase holding a coke over a mountain dew lol
