My husband’s grandmother called it blessing the kitchen, or bedroom, or whatever. Cleaning was not a chore but a way to bless your home. I try to look on it that way as much as I can.

One tip I learned from an amazing book called ‘Organic Housekeeping’ is when you’re cleaning using a cloth, fill your sink or a bucket with hot water and add several cleaning cloths. As you use one, don’t rinse it in your clean water, rather set it aside. Take another clean cloth and continue cleaning. It uses less water overall and you’re never getting dirty the water you’re using in your bucket.

Emptying the toaster for the birds, that’s very mindful. I need to make a feeder like that. Enjoyed seeing what’s in your cupboards and how you run your kitchen. It’s nice, how you said, you’re” mindful about not hoarding but having just enough.” Loved seeing the different birds 🐦. Thanks for sharing.

I'm wondering about that, because all up to date advice is not to feed bread/breadcrumbs to birds, as it harms their digestive system.

    • @kH-bv8ix
      @kH-bv8ix 3 года назад +2

Well, in the States, our bread us fortified (synthetic). The wheat is hybridized (bad for all creatures' digestion). Organic wheat is about 50% contaminated with hybridized wheat. So, I agree, that is bad for the birds (and people).

Where I come from, a lot of women would put newspapers on top of their kitchen cupboards (and tall wardrobes or other tall pieces of furniture). No one sees them but they are great protection. My mum used to do this and I still do, especially in the kitchen where the dust they collect is harder to scrub (rather than just changing the newspapers when needed) due to the grease and steam caused by cooking.

With bulk spices, if you have to buy in large quantity but don't see yourself using them up in a year, especially with ground spices, Find a friend or neighbor or coworker, someone else who will cut the cost and you can share the spices between you. My friend and I do this quite a lot. We are both low waste sustainables in the area and we just got back from the store and splitting up our haul. She even gave me her recipe for Dill dumplings. Here is the recipe in USA measurements if anyone is interested. Knowledge is free and doesn't weigh a thing. ~ Fluffy Dill Dumplings ~
    By my friend Darlene
    1 1/2 cups flour
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 Tablespoon parsley flakes
    1 Tablespoon dill weed
    2/3 cup milk
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    2 Tablespoons, oil
In medium bowl, combine dry ingredients. Add milk, egg & oil. Stir only until ingredients are moistened. Drop by teaspoonful on top of hot chicken soup. Cover tightly; simmer for 12 - 15 minutes or until dumplings are done underneath.
    Enjoy!

A small kitchen is better than larger kitchen in my view. It's size makes you prioritize only what you need. Especially with those old homes, they knew how to accommodate people who only lived by necessities so it's perfect for you. By the way...the expression "higgly piggly" was the cutest thing ive heard! 😄Have a good week dear. ❤🌷🐦🌞

Most European kitchens are smaller, and yes, I think they are better than large kitchens. You hoard less stuff, and they are easier to clean. But I'm seeing a trend in the UK towards pulling down walls and creating huge open-plan kitchen-diner-living room areas. I'm old and can see the pitfalls with that - cooking smells everywhere, difficult to keep tidy and clean, and expensive to heat such a large area. I prefer smaller, cosier rooms, but heh ho :)

    Good morning 💕
My daughter in law cleans my house once a week. We use vinegar and water baking soda/lime and sometimes alcohol. We had new windows made that open inward so its sooooooo much easier to keep them clean.
I only keep out a small bottle of olive oil, salt pepper, and a covered butter tray. My cookbook holder recipe box and candles ( we loose power often )
I was trained when cooking to pre measure all ingredients first.
So dont need everything if front of me all the time. I have a bench in front of the pantry for prep. Then roll it over to the stove/oven
It's so windy and dusty here so i refuse open shelving. I do put on the wall my most used cooking cutlery and spices. I cook for 15 most days so i need tons of plates, cups and cutlery! 😏
I save foods in pyrex glass containers. It can store or cook and skip dirtying a pan. I hate the oder of plastic.
Well only the floor left to install and I will be moving to the castle ! Squeeeeeeeee!

Oh my gosh! I just cleaned my toaster crumbs this morning right before I watched your video, what a GREAT idea to feed the birds. I new I should have watched your video first. I wanted to do something productive first so I could enjoy your video guilt free😊. The birds will get the extra treat next time. I love your videos, thank you. You have a very calming voice. If I don’t have a chance to watch your newest video I LISTEN to it while I’m driving to work.
    Have a blessed day.

Cleaning around things works for everyday cleaning and in-between deep cleans - my mother always said "a lick and a promise" in reference to light cleaning when I was growing up. I asked her once what she meant by that, and she commented that it was a promise to return at another time to clean more thoroughly - if one let the mess and grime build up, it becomes a self-fulfilling obstacle in that the mess after a while seems overwhelming and one would just not bother for much longer than one should. If only I had listened to my mother more when I was younger...

I love my small kitchen. So much easier to keep clean. I only keep the items I use often, and same with ingredients. Love the calendar idea-I’ll be adapting that one😊

I am trying to more mindful and not use as much paper products that I have in the past. I am very guilty of using paper plates so that I don't have to wash as many dishes! I love using vinegar and water as well as baking soda as much as possible! my 3 go to's! thanks for sharing! xoxo

What I have started doing is laying a sheet of wax paper along the very top of the cabinets next to the ceiling and that keeps the top dust free. Once a year just fold up the wax paper and replace. It is really easy to keeps the top of the cabinets clean this way. Btw. Cleaning the fridge is my least favorite chore as well. I will put it off longer than I should. Love your videos! I find them relaxing and inspiring. Thank you for what you do.

This was wonderful! I cleaned along you, after 3 days of toying with the idea to just burn down my mess of a kitchen. My latest baking extravaganza definitely left it in a state 😅 I loved the idea with the calendar sheets - I always have so many crumbs and stuff in my cupboards. Would definitely enjoy to clean with you again, if you are planning on doing a big spring cleaning hehe

I loved your kitchen cleaning video! I don't know why it's so soothing and fun to watch someone else clean their kitchen - lol. You did an amazing job and I love your little space. I have triple the amount of cupboards (which I thought I would love), but having a family of 4, they fill up with junk so so easily! I usually tackle cleaning out the cupboards once a year...but, it takes days and days. You definitely inspired me to clean out my refrigerator. I think I'm going to wait until my son leaves for college this summer to do a thorough job because most of the condiments in there are his and take up 1/2 the space - lol. Thank you so much for sharing! :D xoxo
