Fantastic review, your insights are greatly appreciated.
The welded subframe is the largest and least spoken of issue that you raised. I was willing to look over every other quirk, but I lay over my bike alllll the time trail riding and fear a break if I were to ride gnarly terrain. I thank you again for that.
Also, I never knew how attractive I found an accent until now. Learn something new every day.

Basically, if you are laying your bike over all of the time, you are clearly on the wrong bike. Dirt bikes are designed a little more specifically to hit the dirt.....a T7 at 200kg plus, well, try no crashing...it will solve all your problems. Like pregnancy, it only takes one crash to break your back, or foot...so changing your idea about crashing (being part of the adventure), will no doubt help....

@greyfisher3897 I think I have a tough time reconciling the differences between the enduro I ride on my ktm 300 and what type of trails I'll be on the t7 with.
Of course never crashing is ideal, but to not plan for it isn't in my nature.

If you wanna blame someone blame Pol Tarres 😂. IMO the bike is great when you’re using the bike just for a normal trail ride or regular tarmac ride, good balance budget/expectations. The big problem is when you want to take the bike further of their OEM capabilities. You’re a good rider, you can wheelie, jump the bike, getting your self into hard/advance trails, so you’re capable to find its downsides. For the AVG riders in general, the bike can accomplish the task. I remember the first time that I took the bike on a twisty road, the CP2 engine was super fun, without being a super fast bike. After a year of riding on the bike I decided to gain more off-road experience, there is when I started to noticed all the problems that you’ve mentioned. But to be fair AVG riders like me cannot push the bike that far. Still a super fun bike 😂. Thanks for the video Kate 🎉

I think taking anything bigger than a 500-excf on serious off-road is pretty silly. I think a lot of riders expect too much out of huge adv bikes thinking the bike can handle it when it just can’t. Honda realized this with their adventure sports and put a 19” front wheel on it.
I think this bike is meant for simple gravel roads, simple water crossings just to get back on road. Even though the professionals show that it can do amazing things doesn’t mean that they didn’t mod the absolute fuck out of it before hand. They’re probably given a new one when they break one too.
My entire test ride on the T7 was on a 160 mile dirt loop and the entire time it performed flawlessly. There were parts of the loop that I wish I was on a dirtbike. But it was great.
I think the real answer here is to buy a bike for each type of riding you want to do even though the T7 bridges a lot of gaps.
Great video, thanks for your insight!

The lack of rider modes was the selling point for me. I want a bike that is as simple as possible that way there are less things that can go wrong. I put the Acerbis 6.1 gallon tank on her and it really helped with the center of gravity believe it or not. The plastics do suck but Camel ADV makes some great ones that bolt right on. So, putting a bigger tank on,helps with center of gravity. A wider tank, being heavier holding more fuel, is a better set up. "believe it or not" Maybe you can say how that works?...I rode a T7 stock and its top heavy from the get go. The tank sticks way up.

    • @BSpenceTravels
      @BSpenceTravels 2 месяца назад +1

@@bradsanders6954 Yeah, the bigger tank is plastic so you are saving weight right away compared to the metal OEM tank. Plus it carries the fuel lower on the bike so it seems to have changed the COG to me. Especially if you only put a stock amount in it, i.e. 4 gallons. It's actually lower on the bike than the stock tank. They said that even with a full tank in the Acerbis tank you only add 7 pounds to the bike.

On the suspension note, 43mm forks are no good for serious off road riding the will simply collapse on big jump with enough speed. That’s why it’s essential to fit 48mm forks if you do serious off road rider. So add more budget for that 😉

Gee Whiz, I have my T7 for three years, and I haven't dropped it once.....hmmmmm. And I am championed enduro rider in my youth. So...what is with all this nonsense about crashing being "part of the adventure". Don't forget...crashing not only damages a bike...any bike.....it can make you a cripple...even just that one time, don't forget that newbies..... I actually do get a kick out of the T7 riders who bought the bike with completely false expectations. I have no complaints, its a state of the art...modifiable (weldable) bike to suit your needs....If you want to race one, or ride one hard....you need to change the basic design...that has been the case since I have been riding in the 70's. Maybe You Tube and Torres fooled everybody.... Ya the weight is in the engine, and the engine mounted higher than most, because it wasn't designed specifically for this type of design (higher ground clearance). That is called a trade off. In order for Yamaha France to get this bike made by Yamaha Japan, they had to use an already in production engine. Yamaha has done this a few times. I had a 1986 FZ600, it had 600cc engine stuffed into an FZ 400 frame. Price point is low, very modifiable. The real picture here is the fact that sooner or later the Yamaha Japan will design a "new" engine, and it will sit lower in the frame...simple as pie. We all have to keep in mind that this bike pretty much started a wave in the market....by design, and by Yamaha France....which is not the same as Yamaha Japan. This bike is a result, and most certainly not the final result of the concept. All this nonsense about high center of gravity, just an excuse if you ask me people use who drop it a lot. Once you factor in the weight distribution of this bike into your riding inputs...and focus on those physical traits...they go away magically. I have noticed how ARiemann1 has not mentioned anything about center of gravity on his "testing". He only mentions how well balanced it is. Its a big girl.....not a entry level bike...takes skill to ride this big bike..and not crash it so often, enough to have to bend your exhaust mount back several times....After a few bends you should be asking yourself...did I buy the right bike?

    • @braapt7
      @braapt7  2 месяца назад

Congratulation for your excellent riding technic that you never dropped the bike... just wow, you must be a hot shot for sure. Maybe you should make videos about safe riding technic for the ones, who can't ride that safe!
You are right about the bike, it's a patchwork, no doubt about that.
However... these problems I point at, they are flaws in the engineering. The original designers should have know about this, since even in the original teasers the bike was used on motocross tracks. (Before Pol Tarres videos)
Why I am sure that I am right about this? Because Yamaha already fixed two of these issues in the new model: brand new suspension and fixed plastic ergonomics. (check how much less panels used on the 2025 model)
This could have been done already from the start.
Or even better, next time they should ask me about it, I will tell them sooner! 😉😀
And ARiemann1 talks a lot, but he is super sensitive and doesn't like to confront with others, so he says nice things, this way everybody loves him. Especially the sponsors. =) (btw. the bike is balanced nicely, it can be done even with high center of gravity)

And that`s why I own a KTM500 EXC for proper offroad adventure and I ride my T7 on mild adventures. Frankly , the T7 is rubbish off road. After years of riding enduro bikes the T7 was a fat , top heavy , under sprung pig offroad but bloody great on flowing gravel roads and easy twin track.

I don't think any ADV bike is great offroad, it's part of the compromise, I'm happy it meets the design brief to be able to travel long distance to get to rough tracks carrying a lot of gear ,something I wouldn't want to do on a KTM500. ADV's have a tough brief, trying to cover so many different riding needs in one package.

Enduro bikes are super fun and easy to handle on a nice ride in the forest, but if you travel too far, you can either run out of fuel pretty fast, or at the end of the day struggle to ride home after sunset on the highway. 😅

T7s are awesome, and I think there is no better alternative on the market right now for serious off road capable twin cylinder bike, no question about this.
However, the high positioned weight causes a faster slide out - need much more counterbalance - and if this slide out got at some point, even a strong and heavy rider can not keep the bike balanced, as he or she would be able if this weight would be positioned lower.
And yes. Rider skills and height/weight ratio compared to the bike are more important than the bike itself. 😅

Meanwhile an 890 outperforms it in every way, my 890R has been totally reliable in 21,000 miles, many of them are that way. 100HP is a good thing.
Between 1 and 2% of 790's have the cam problem, the internet has gone on a rampage saying ALL KTM's break. Now every internet poster pushes the same thing.

There’s no way you can do the upgrades and still cost less than a ktm 890 adv , the suspension alone will bring the cost above

    • @braapt7
      @braapt7  2 месяца назад +1

True that, however, I think the T7 with the Tractive suspension is superior to the KTM 890 adv if you see the whole picture.
Yeah, this is subjective, but it's based on objective facts. :)
The KTM 890 R might be better - if you doesn't mind to change the camshaft (and other things) time to time, while running the T7 is common for 300000km without any big issues. But also the price of the 890R is still above the T7 + pro suspension upgrade.
Also don't forget - and this is REALLY subjective - I am an old school rider who got heebie-jeebies if a computer want to override my control over the bike.

@ Iam old as well the off road abs and traction controll I really like on the 890 , internet haters have blown cam issues out of controll , it’s a small number and ktm have now said they will fix even out of warranty . Being short the height and top heaviness of the yam is the one thing I can’t modify . Prices probably vary in different countries , but i priced up new yam next to new 890 and they are almost the same but basic ktm still had more spec and cheaper to decat and sort silencer 890r is a couple thousand more but spending same money on t7 I still couldn’t bring it close to the level of the ktm R I liked the yam for all its simplicity and reliability ,but as an all rounder for road touring as well and carrying a passenger it has more to offer me

And yes, top heavy can not be fixed without rebuilding the bike and putting the tank under the seat. Fortunately the new EICMA offers new solutions, I keep my eyes on them, so never know... maybe you will see me in my next video on the new Suzuki or Kove... 😅

The issues the T7 has? Are there for good. Its top heavy and needs to be more top heavy to have enough fuel on board. Yamaha builds bikes to a price point, to make the T7 more serious there is almost no area not to be fixing. The power, just isnt there. ADV bikes go on road and the bike doesnt quite have it. The internet is scaring people about KTM's night and day.
Mine are totally reliable and are seriously fun bikes.

I am sure the T7 would be much less top heavy if the Yamaha would have put the petrol under the seat, like many other manufacturers find this solution adequate.
And the power is right enough for an old lady rider like me. 😊
And congratulations for your issue free KTMs, I am sure many fellow riders envy you! ✋🙂

    Five things for the misses.
1 you buy the wrong bike for your height. You are just to short for the bike.
2 it’s not an enduro bike as you call it.
3 you are not strong enough and you don’t know how to pick up the bike.
4 it is an adventure bike with a 21 inch and 18 in the back. The swingarm is the best in class of his length you just can not handle the bike.
5 the springs are to soft not the suspension. It will cost you just a bit to change it. T7 is made for 70 kilo person. 😅.
Don’t forget that Yamaha did not build the bike to go hardcore offroad it’s just to heavy for 95% of the people.
Why do people think they are Pol Tarres. 😅.
Your opinion about the bike is incorrect and totally your opinion. You just bought the wrong bike for your purposes.
Don’t blame the bike for that. Just buy a 300cc and you will be fine.

All right... did you see this video? Please do so. All your doubts will go away about my opinion.
      ruclips.net/video/_hrdwl7hYdk/видео.html
I do weight 70 kg and 172cm tall... and yes, I am not really strong either. I am short for the bike, yes, but did you ever see Gaston Rahier ride his BMW? 😉 And yes, I am not as good rider as he was, but I am definitely a capable one, just check my other videos.
I can handle the bike pretty nicely, trust me. 😊
Still I keep all my opinion about the bike I told in this video: If you are considering the bike as a serious off-road capable motorbike (enduro, dualsport, adventure, whatever you would like to fancy name it) these flaws could have been fixed already at the construction.
Just as they fixed the suspension later on the Tenere 700 Extreme.

I wouldn't mind it, if they were design another one for us! :D
I really would love if Honda would have made a serious offroad capable twin cylinder bike using the CB500x engine for example. That power is enough for me.
If Honda would have made a bike like the CB500x in dimensions but with serious off road capable frame, suspension and with a basic electrics - at least as much as the T700 is - I wouldn't hesitate to switch to it.
But seriously... I even ride in man's clothing most of the time, because women enduro clothing quality and variety is super limited. (and most of them are pink... I got nothing against the pink, but... you know. )
And yes, I agree, not many women ride at this level, but there are men at this size, and even smaller too! 😅
