What if I told you that marine layer and thing ring of fire resistance came in clutch... and that was the least shocking thing that happened in this episode lol.
Can we talk about how much of a thorn in Lucien's side fucking Caleb was? Between his protection from aberrations, mirror image, imagination attacks, Mindblank immunities, successful mental pleas to Mollymauk, and his brilliant move to teleport Jester to Caduceus after she fell was super clutch. He was the MVP in my mind. Not to mention Fjord just railing on the Somnovem from behind the veil of marine layer. Solid work.
My head canon for the final guiding bolt is that Artagan finally manages to break through whatever Cognouza is doing to block him and amps up Jesters damage (through Caduceus' path to the grave) and it looks VERY much like the DBZ Gohan/Goku Father-Son Kamehameha.
That timing with the music on Marisha's two Nat 20's was professional. Watching these videos has been a treat this campaign - I'm ready to be destroyed by whatever you do for the finale, and even more ready for what you do for the next campaign.
I hope Tal playes that Warlock he was saying he has prepared. I want to see Tal playing a true Warlock with some proper Warlock interractions. That's the only thing we have a slight inkling of.
For me, I was quite amazed at how composed Travis seems to be when Jester went down. It's like I saw a glimpse of how Travis would handle disastrous situation.

Feel like this final battle was better than Vox Machina finally defeating Vecna (even though that was a badass final battle). It felt personal. Plus, it was anime as Hell!
Vecna is a shitstorm. Vox Machina visibly unable to defeat it without the help of the stabby thing (damn i forgot the name) and locked him with the book. Their sole purpose of defeating Vecna is to stop BBEG. Lucien, on the other hand, is a personal vendetta. Your friend, whom you failed to save, comes to haunt you failure (Literally!) to being the BBEG of Mighty Nein. It feels so personal to each, so that each character fights this BBEG with personal powers. The end with Jester's Final Blow is one to be recognized too, as before, she read Lucien with the Tarot Card, with the Death card facing him, and the silver dragon, facing her. If that is not poetic, Final Fantasy-like ending, i don't know what else to name these.
In some regards, I'd agree. I absolutely adore the mechanics that went into both fights, storywise it had a great connection, and of course I'm a sucker for Cosmic Horror JRPG Final Bosses. But man, the fight with Vecna had such insane moments. Basically everything involving Scanlan was a treat.
7:11 This was one of my favorite moments of the entire campaign: Marisha losing her shit with the double Natty 20's after wrapping her hands with the belt. Then again, Marisha losing her shit in general is pretty awesome. :D
Fjord/Travis casting Marine Layer was possibly the most clutch move of the entire campaign. Sure there have been other great N20s and luck rolls. But this was just great strategy.
Mighty Nein is just like Final Fantasy story. If you make new Final Fantasy with them inside, I'd buy! The story, the arc, the loss, the gains, felt so relatable. No wonder, since it is their second campaign. The struggle to defeat is there and that makes it even intense. Vox Machina felt more like Avengers, i suppose? Each of them becomes a God-Tier Powerful Beings. One round from one of them could produce over 100 damage. Imagine they use a Grave Cleric on Vox Machina, probably a 200-300ish in one single attack? and that is both by Taliesin's character himself.
I watched the end of this and said, "Yeah... there's no topping that. It's the right place to end." And then we got one more episode lasting almost 8 hours. XD But... those eight hours just wrapped up loose ends. Thematically, this ending was FANTASTIC: the Mighty Nein became the Mighty Nine, Taliesin got to come full circle with his characters, Jester got to be the DPS who got the kill, (something she always wanted), and everyone managed to live. Yeah... I can't wait for Campaign 3 to start... ... where everyone chooses to be a Cleric! :D Just kidding. I think.
Alright, am I the only one or when Jester died did anyone also wanna see Travis have Fjord go all beast mode and start going all out on Lucien? i mean it probably would've negated everything marine layer did in this fight which would've killed more people which is bad, but a raging half orc warlock paladin would've been dope to see.
But he is a Captain warlock paladin. He knows better not to rage at the loss of his significant other. If any, he would heal them and fight the killer together. But that is just my opinion though. He possibly actually raging inside, but he ain't Grog lol.
Im so hoping Laura goes fighter or barbarian in campaign 3 as the poor woman has been saddled with honestly two subpar builds in terms of her play style these last two campaigns and its so clear she wants to put numbers on the board. Beast master archer ranger is known as the worst build in 5e and Trickster Cleric while having some cool utility isnt a combat focused class (combine that to her being religated to a healer most of the time).
I know it's not in here, but Essek going feral - even if his attack didn't take - was just yes to me. How far he'd come and willing to be for the first real friends he's ever had, and using Fortune's Favour to physically pull Caleb when he could maybe just lift the building up with a spell... And Jester dying and being Revivified and landing the final blow... And so many many points I want to cram here. Thank you for this edit, and for all your previous works. From Caduceus's inspirational speech to the battle - filled with all the moments that made us cry, broken up with lighthearted moments (because that was needed that night, thank goodness for Travis) - TO THAT ENDING WITH THE FLASHBACKS. Definitely was not expecting that and I literally teared up. it flowed so well. And the music - the music is always perfect. The ending broke me but in the best of ways. i just recently started watching live (rebroadcasts, because timezone) but holy shit this episode was a lot. The ending was so emotional and it convinced me to watch every episode live

This is a year late, but something compiling all the times the nein quoted Molly at Lucien, or otherwise did something to make him remember his time as mollymauk would be amazing. I have searched and, surprisingly, nothing seems to exist of the sort.
Critical Role was what gotten me into DnD & I'm glad that I was able to be there at the end of it. The Untold Tales Of The Mighty Nein might come upon us, but more stories are yet to come.

It's my head canon that when Lucien tears at himself at the end it was the piece of Molly still there, fighting back to defend his friends
