My favorite book of all times. I also adored the Pagan references. I think I re-read the book about 7 times and every time I discovered something else, either related to knowledge or to emotions and human nature. I have been in a search for books with a similar atmosphere. The cosest I've come was with "Tainaron. Mail From Another City" by Leena Krohn and the city of Tamora from "Invisible Cities" by Italo Calvino. The two short stories by Jorge Luis Borges that inspired Clarke, "The Library of Babel" and "The House of Asterion" are fascinating as well.

I'm currently reading the book! I found another thing that Piranesi does that can be linked to the ancients (and echos one of the quotes you mentioned about how the world was constantly speaking to men): at the beginning of the book, Piranesi constantly read signs in the halls as, such as how the birds flew and landed on different statues. I remember going through Goodreads reviews of this book and feeling quizzical when one of them mentioned religion, now realizing that religion can be interpreted as "the world speaking to men" I feel I am starting to see so much more: ) I think the name Piranesi itself is also linked to ancient times and the labyrinth because Piranesi was an Italian etcher and architect whose etchings include Imaginary Prisons and Views of Rome.
Thanks so much for the video!
