    My wife’s ancestor served onboard HMS Terror when it took part in the search for the northwest passage. His name was lieutenant Archibald McMurdo. He also took part in the Captain Ross Antarctic expedition and the McMurdo station is named after him. Nearby to McMurdo station are two mountains Terror and Erebus.

      I checked his wiki page. He expressed doubt that Captain Franklin would return from his ill fated expedition and the following year was given command of the HMS Contest and sent to West Africa - presumably the warmest place he could think of at the time.

    Oooh this is perfect to have in the background while you're reading the book by Dan Simmons. Which I recommend to all the amc show fans.

    • @koldvlud266
      @koldvlud266 2 года назад +5

      Highly recommended, in fact.
      Dan Simmons commands a vastly extensive, detail-oriented, vocabulary in general but especially as it pertains to nautical knowledge. Simmons’ got such a handle on these characters-you’ll never question the veracity of events as they unfold. Lastly,
      the book’s version of the creature, Tuunbaaq is horrifically more monstrous, menacing & bizarre than anything the show can offer.
      & I love the show!

      It’s insanely detailed. Wasnt as much of a fan of the direction, especially with Croziers character, but its very very rich and well written- i do like the ending of the book better however, especially with Crozier finding the Terror abandoned long after him and his men left it, sitting atop the ice, dark and still.

    First season of The Terror is one of the most brilliant shows I've ever watched. Thanks for sharing, this is what I need now.
    I'm waiting for your future projects.

    I love this series, wish the second series would have followed up and not been completely different.....after all, the ship was the HMS Terror.....rest in peace brave men!

      I completely agree. The first season is one of my favourite shows!

    • @skvader4187

      I think it would have been great if they made a season about Mr Blanky, because his "fury beach" scene is scarily similar to the franklin expedition, and it would be great if they covered that, however I have no idea how to follow up season 1 because the story finishes and there is nothing to continue

    • @dorionite1378
      @dorionite1378 2 года назад +2

      I found that the second season really just lacked the subtlety of the first, and this kinda ruined everything else about the show, especially the later episodes, I don’t think I ever felt myself feeling scared or even particularly unnerved by anything, it was more like watching a soap opera, the first season I felt sick constantly and by the finale, I felt drained, sort of like how Crozier looks at the end, it also probably helped that I watched the show mostly at night during midwinter, and I’m Canadian, so I have a bit of a personal connection, I wish we had some day or something to honour the expedition.

      Agreed. S2 should of been about another disaster, like the Batavia (notorious shipwreck from 1629, off WA's coast) or Scotts voyage to the South Pole or the Roanoke Colony disappearance, even Donner Party. But, they chose to go all cringe with the (frankly, quite poor) acting and make it like AHS which isn't The Terror at all. Pretty sure it was just an attempted cash-grab under the good name of the Terror.

    Absolutely not what I would expect of something labeled for relaxing and sleeping, but I am glad someone shares the sentiment that creepy ambience makes an excellent lullaby.

      I dozed off listening to ambient Marcus Fjellström tracks a few years ago and all of a sudden an entity, pressed down on my wrists and ankles. I chortled in my sleep knowing this was just sleep paralysis and I forced myself awake. 3" from my face was a demon that looked like the Donnie Darko rabbit just without the ears. Just as I was begining to panic the entity faded away. The track that had played was some hardcore static screeching, which is what probably caused it. This was the only time I ever had a hallucination in my life. Marcus took his own life shortly after composing the music to the terror. I wonder what state his mind was in after composing these visionary pieces.

    Very well done 👏 I loved the music in the series, it perfectly encapsulated the isolation and bleak hopelessness of an essentially doomed mission 😢 this worked well for me as sleep ambiance, I was asleep pretty quick.
    That's.....actually kind of disturbing 😮 the Terror (pun absolutely intended) sent me to sleep almost straight away
