    My biggest attraction to these cabinets has always been how they help to display plants in an aesthetic way. I also like how they can help increase your growing space if natural light is at a premium.

    I live in North Iowa ( about 2 hours south of Minneapolis ). I have a milsbo tall and a rudsta. They have been LIFE SAVERS for my plants. Keeps the more sensitive ones in a warm environment for the 7+ months of cold weather we have. if you live in the northern US/Canada or a place that has a similar climate I 100% recommend splurging on one.

      What types of plants do you keep in there to keep safe in the winter? I’m in Minneapolis❄️

      @@louise3953 Well any plant can benefits from it but in mine I have anthuriums, alocasias/colocasias, piper plants, Patchouli, some of my more expensive philos. As they tend to like it a bit warmer. My rudsta and milsbo stay around 75-80 during the winter with my house set on 68. I also use it for props & plants that need a little more tlc.

    Where I live humidity sits around 20 indoors in the winter. Having cabinets has allowed me to have plants that I wouldn’t otherwise have. One of them sits around 75 and one closer to 90 without extra humidity. Im always having to open the door to bring it down! Plants that I’ve kept for years (like my African Violets) grow so much better in the cabinet. I bought an angel wing begonia and it really wasn’t doing well, but when I put it in the cabinet it took off. Love love love cabinets…

    Boy the cabinet didn’t look over filled when you showed us. It looked just right. But when you shows all the plants out on the gooor I said whoa they’ll never fit in the cabinet that they just came out of. You have it well organized. It does look beautiful.

    This came at a perfect time because I was considering an Ikea greenhouse but wasn’t sure if it was worth it. I’m currently battling mealies so I guess I need to handle that first. Lol

    Thankyou for a very thorough review on the cabinet. In Australia 🇦🇺 2024 these cabinets are $349 AUD. I was seriously considering one but now see it wouldn't suit the plants I have.. A really good informative update.

    I’ve long thought that the IKEA cabinet looked nice in your home as do the plants you keep inside it, so this comprehensive evaluation was very enjoyable. I took particular notice of your variegated pterodactyl, oops I mean frydek, a plant with a striking appearance in my humble opinion. Gotta get one of those. I’m happy to say that my pterodactyl just produced 2 beautiful eggs, oops I mean leaves, which pleases me. Lol. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks for this update! They’re always so interesting. I’m confused about what purpose the fans serve? Mine makes the humidity go down drastically so I’ve been turning it off.

    • @Allsmilesgirl277
      @Allsmilesgirl277 Год назад +2

      The fans help circulate air, which plants need/ have in nature. Mold and fungus happens with low air flow, I believe

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Год назад +1

      To the move the air so you don't get mold, fungal issues, etc. I have heard of someone else talking about the fans and lowering humidity so not sure what they ended up doing but airflow is super important for me over humidity :)

    You have such a nice cabinet setup and beautiful plants! I would love to do a something similar. I currently am using Aerogarden trio tabletop grow lights that dim for many of my plants which is nice on days I have light sensitivity due to migraine. I’m wondering are the T5 lights you use in the cabinet dimable? Thank you for sharing your cabinet!❤

    IKEA not nice to raise prices around covid and possibly due to demand. It would be ideal to have a metal cabinet similar so mold would not be issue.

    How do you manage with predatory mites in the cabinet? I used some in mine and they just got everywhere and made the whole cabinet look a little too 'messy', getting between the glass panes and metal supports etc... so I've stopped using them in case I was using them wrong (it was my first time).

    • @plantsbymelissa

      The mites got all over my glass lol I just let them do their thing and I usually give my cabinet a deep clean once a month and clean the glass then I refresh the mites but they seem to get everywhere 🙈

    • @plantsbymelissa

      Beneficial insects helped the most, mites and nematodes as well as a lot of daily checking and removing any I saw right away. I cut off a lot of new growth - thrips love the juicy new leaves.
