    I recently found you and am so happy I did. I have house plants but never gave a deep deep thought. I love them yes but the more I am learning for you wow. I am really falling in love with my plants. 2 I have are from my mom and she passed 3 years ago. I am nursing one and the other healthy. You helped me by teaching about looking at the roots. I put it in a pot to big for one and the roots where well some sad. MANY very strong. It is a peace lily. Even flowers each year for me but this year her bloom was green. Thank you for telling my why. Well maybe... She already looks so much better!!! Thank you!

    It is so interesting to hear somebody actually acknowledging that a cabinet may not be the best thing all the time.😍 I have many alocasias, but I have never owned a cabinet, and my plants do very well (apart from when I am the one to mess things up😅). None of my alocasias have ever dropped old leaves, so when people talk about "the alocasia cycle" I am always baffled.

      How's the humidity is usually where you live? I'll get a cabinrt un the future cause room humidity where I am is bot the best

      @@RedRona7 I live in Scandinavia, so our humidity is fairly low, but I have only checked it once actually. It was around 45% as far as I remember. I think it was in the summer, but I could be wrong.🤔

    Ouuuuu I’m interested to see this! I’ve wanted one for a while but my apartment is usually around 70% for humidity, so I probably don’t need to spend the money on a cabinet.. I’ll just continue to admire everyone else’s for now 😅❤

    • @jessicapetrin1655
      @jessicapetrin1655 Год назад

      Same here. In the summer, anyway. I could probably use one for the winter, though. Humidity goes from 60’s-70’s to 20’s to 40’s which is a bummer once the colder months roll in.

      Your house *is* a cabinet.
      Though, you could do the reverse. Get a dehumidifier for plants that need less, like cacti or succulents and the like.

    I've been learning about my variegated frydek alongside you, and took the plunge with no drainage after your last video about it 😊 mine is now rooting beautifully in a glass jar with pon, has a pristeen upright leaf and a new one on the way. Fingers crossed it will hold onto its leaf 😂

    I definitely find from my friends who uses the Milsbo cabinet not all plants do need it and they can grow without one. Which i do i grow my plant collection outside in natural sunlight and home humidity which is fine. Plants that grows fast in cabinets are Hoyas and can sun stressed in there too. And also cacti and succulents which need more light if you cannot give them enough where your living. Alocasia the best method that is working amazingly is in a glass jar with hydroleca clay granules at the bottom, then soil mix on top of it and some stones dressings at the finish top. And only need to water a bit when you see no water at the bottom as the water rises upwards so no need to water too much. And also is a nice moist environment for them as they like that.

    I have a tip for the wonkiness of your cabinet setup lol. For the power strip, get some really tacky double sided tape instead of the command strips and then glue a magnet to the back of the fan and hold another magnet on the other side of the cabinet to hold the fan wherever you want it 🙂

    I'm currently a bit worried about my alocasia maccororhiza, because she dropped the 2 oldest leafs out of the 3 she had, but she's also sooooo close to popping out a new leaf which is probably just taking up all the energy. I'm expecting that leaf to be quiet a lot bigger than the current one, because the last size up was great (from 9cm to 15cm length). And I'll probably set up a mini cabinet or cloche for her if things don't go as planned. So yeah, it's really interesting to hear about your experiences with this setup.

    • @meganthurium
      @meganthurium Год назад +1

      My macrorrhiza did the same! I was left with 1 leaf and then moved it to my grow tent under a grow light and now it looks like it's going to push out a new leaf 🤞🏻 it's definitely appreciating higher light and humidity

    I think the reason why the cabinet sometimes is not the best thing for all plants is because the temperature does not fluctuate the same way it would in nature during fx night time vs daytime. They do need a break from that in the same way that they need a break from light (during the night)

    The a. Regal Shield is most definitely my easiest alocasia (in fact one of my easiest plants). It's never had a pest, grows easily even if left too long without a drink (ops). It's just brill. And so so beautiful. Mine isn't in a cabinet so OK with standard humidity. I realise saying all that I've cursed it LOL.
    Thanks as always for the excellent content and info ❤

    Your plant collection is gorgeous, thank you for taking us on your journey of ups and downs. I do have a question about plants and pets. I see so many people that have pet toxic plants and pets. I can only imagine that your pup is not curious about them. I'm so paranoid about harming my babies, dogs and cats. I do have a few not safe for pets plants, but I tend to keep then high up on a shelf. Please tell me how you deal with that and any advice would be appreciated. I so want some large, leafy green plants, but so many come with a warning. Thanks for all of your plant insights.

    Hi Claire, glad to see your Anthurium regale is shooting up a new leaf but I’m wondering if it needs more humidity, I wonder if putting it in a large prop box would work.
    I have a black Milsbo tall and I have it as a fairy garden set up. I actually just re-done the shelf level 2 yesterday which I truly enjoyed. Actually, I should put a RUclips short of that arrangement yesterday 😅

    Does your cabinet always sit around 52% humidity? If so, it’s pointless to have a cabinet, might as well be in ambient room conditions. That low humidity might be a reason why it isn’t performing so well for you. If you recall, when you had that Detolf cabinet at your mum’s place, your plants would grow like crazy - most likely because your humidity used to be super high.

    I have a clarinervium and warocqueanum, and both are just out in room conditions, I've bad no issues. I used to have a small cabinet type set up but found it caused more issues than not, so I got rid of it. Also, how did you resist that leaf that looked like it was stuck in the sheath at the back 😂 I would've had to sort it 😬 (unless you do lol I'm only halfway through the video 😂

    My waroqueanum HATES heat, it loves higher humidity, but it will rebel when it's over 23. If it does better in the cooler room, all the better to enjoy it!

    Definitely remove your frosted heart from the cabinet! Mine is in room humidity near a window and has grown to about 60cm in height now! It's pushing out leaves like crazy, even in winter. It's a super hardy Syngonium 😊
