I mean: there are counter videos where it's supposed to count all same things in one video. I thought of making such video but including Matt breathing in before every possible line.
They used to sneak into Reading and Glastonbury and after seeing Rage Against the Machine Dom said "If we ever get on that stage we'll know we've made it"
I can bet that those two people shaking their heads in public they tell their children about the battle of bands and go to the Olympic stadium to see MUSE :')
Haha my band (Generator) also played that very same battle of the bands, remember it well! They also played with us and another band called Foxys Nuclear Haircut at Totnes Pavillions....
+Darren Mosley I'm reading their biography right now ^^ In this clip they were playing as Rocket Baby Dolls (fairly known in the ol' Muse fanbase), *BUT* this name was changed for the Battle of the Bands - as well as because they had developed their music to something not remniscent of their then current name - Gothic Plague. Apparently the gig turned into a mini-riot after Dom smashing the drums at the end of the show, and Muse were declared the out-and-out winners for "taking the piss".
Shyissonotboring They got noticed fo sho but it took a heck of alot more than just this contest. They played live anywhere and everywhere for a long ass time building up a devoted fan base. Ya gotta luv their two buddies doing "THE GRUNGE" dance rofl so awesome...and Matt's hair hahaha wtf AHdorable!
Matt jumping up & down, all around, LOL, so adorable, & his hair, wow, it is so long, they were so young, well younger, they are still young, I love Muse SO much :D :D :D :D :D
Great to see a band as big as Muse went through all the crappy little gigs/battle of the bands etc. Good for young bands starting out to see that all the hard work can pay off.
came here after watching dom interview saying that small minded was their first song written and it's like for gcse 😂 from this video itself you can tell how heavy grungy sounds were influenced. dom said the same and it makes sense how they came out with showbiz. it's what they write in early days. now they have evolved in many ways and it just upsetting how og fans said muse has changed. when in fact they've improved a lot musically. if you're in that industry, how can you not experiment with such amazing technologies?? and it's matt bellamy we're talking about. he's a music prodigy
If I'd been there to see this in 1994 I would've doubted that this band would get anywhere It's amazing that they're one of the highest selling bands there is at the moment and the amount matts voice has improved is amazing too
it's still crazy to think that they are HUGE now. we must started somewhere.. and the fact that the band is established since '94 the year I was born. it feelsike we grew up together. and that makes muse very special to me
Thank you very much for this video gift! Great group turned out. Very interesting to watch Muse evolved and where to start :) England gives birth to great musicians. I grieve with you about leaving David Bowie
+Christopher Sitten Noticed this as well, seems like Matt was really going for that Cobain feeling. You can hear the same thing on Showbiz (esp. songs like Cave), but this video really shows it a lot more.
I think he was listening to Jeff Buckley at the time too, look at his guitar. The choruses have Jeff Buckley esque finger picking between the heavy Nirvana-like parts. He's like a proverbial style sponge, he absorbs everything and transmutes it into his own ha.
People used to write FUCK MUSE all over the walls at the Exeter music practice room because they got preferential treatment and more practice time because they were already better than all the other locals bands aged 18 or 19.
You can see some of the personal guitar tricks and even his style of playing. Its amazing. I love Muse and I feel like Matt Bellamy is my Jimy Hendrix.
Alka-Young The description says this is a Battle of the Bands in Torquay, November 1994. They were Muse at this point. The first Battle was early in the year, in their home town of Teignmouth, and they changed their name a week after this
It seems they are still green there, but something Big was growing inside. Only three years later the record companies fought over them as soon as they heard the Showbiz demo. Awesome document.
Dude... this is more than ten years ago, they were almost kids. I think production does a lot for them now, but there's talent on the basis of it. And I think, effort and perseverance is what we see now. The talent is domething you develop, not something you're just born with. They had it in this video, they took it further and made it one of the best bands in the world.
Saw muse quite a few times in that time period in and around Exeter. The Dodgy big top at Marsh Barton in front of 50 people was good. Who'd have known what the future would be hey.
Muse live at Reading University (1999) is the first recorded *tour gig* of them, might be worth checking out that as well ;) Afaik there's a clip here on RUclips, in this case playing Sunburn.
yep..Matt and Dom were in Gothic Plague together and Chris was in some other band in high school then they decided to join and be Rocket Baby Dolls but changed their name to Muse.
Hi everyone, I've posted the full unedited version here
ruclips.net/video/EyAa3-TfZqM/видео.html
Matt's not yet mastered the art of breathing in after every line yet.
+Hellwyck This once again reminds me of an idea: making a video with Matt's breathe-in before everything counter somewhere up it. BREATH INTENSIFIES
Imagination Abused by IAMSIX
No ideas what the 2nd half of your sentence meant there... it kinda went squiffy.
I mean: there are counter videos where it's supposed to count all same things in one video. I thought of making such video but including Matt breathing in before every possible line.
ahhhh yeah, like a drinking game.
+Hellwyck something like this LOL ruclips.net/video/rip94nW_0jU/видео.html
lol those 2 headbangers are the first muser XD
AUDY, Ltd. Quienes serán? :)
Matthew Bellamy had nice hair.
@@alezzux23
I believe this guy is talking about the 2 guys dancing. 😂
Me preguntó si seguirán asistiendo a conciertos de muse
Yoii
The first musers in front of them.. I feel like I see my ancestors and I love it
for some reason I imagined Bryn from gavin and stacey reading that
those were their mates from school
MancRanger omg 😂😂
Eternal Muser I'M WHEEZING
Damn! Even I had more people attending my shows.
Little did they know that 17 years later they would be performing at the FUCKING OLYMPICS!
awesmpossm that only 10 years later they'd be headlining FUCKING GLASTONBURY?!!!
They used to sneak into Reading and Glastonbury and after seeing Rage Against the Machine Dom said "If we ever get on that stage we'll know we've made it"
+coolbean08 That only x yaers later they'd be performing at the FUCKING *insert a fucking freaking pleace here*!!!
Kai Burns 2004 dumbass
Vanilla Paste they were performing on glasto 2000 with 10 song (or so) on the set. but not headlining..
*From this small gig to Wembley Stadium. I think i will never underestimate unknown small band*
That's why you attend all the bands on the bill. It's support!
His 'normal talking' voice hasnt changed a bit.
ikr
that's what I thought too
I can bet that those two people shaking their heads in public they tell their children about the battle of bands and go to the Olympic stadium to see MUSE :')
Or there dead of drugs
+REM SLEEP CHANT OUCH!!
They're (MUSE) probably still friends with them, considering I heard somewhere else that those 2 people are their classmates
@@remsleepchanthorrorfilms1830MUSE only did "natural" drugs and alcohol. They're all sober currently.
They probably go for free, and go backstage for foosball.
Chris Wolstenholme... before the headbanging!
Matt1994; long hair
Matt 2005: short hair
Matt 2015; long hair again but some beard now
Now it's short again.
Wow, it's almost like people change hairstyles over time or something.
I thought it was a chick at first not going to lie I was like when did they have a chick...
That’s Matt? I thought it was Joseph Gordon-Lovett in 3rd Rock From the Sun
He looked like Jesus, that makes sense to me
HOLY CRAP LOOK AT MATT
@Jordan Tulinsky which pixel is he?
Haha my band (Generator) also played that very same battle of the bands, remember it well! They also played with us and another band called Foxys Nuclear Haircut at Totnes Pavillions....
Darren Mosley wait so u mean that muse and another band played against your band in that competition?? :D
Yup, Muse won from what i remember. I remember also playing my first gig with a band called Fixed Penalty, who had no less than Chris on drums!
I guess your biggest mistake was leaving them
+Darren Mosley I'm reading their biography right now ^^ In this clip they were playing as Rocket Baby Dolls (fairly known in the ol' Muse fanbase), *BUT* this name was changed for the Battle of the Bands - as well as because they had developed their music to something not remniscent of their then current name - Gothic Plague.
Apparently the gig turned into a mini-riot after Dom smashing the drums at the end of the show, and Muse were declared the out-and-out winners for "taking the piss".
+Darren Mosley Love the band names circulating at the time by the way.
Lord farquad
sodachief you made my day ahahah
sodachief omg hahaha
sodachief XD
Holy fuck he was 16 and already got the voice of Showbiz
Alejandro Vargas well it is easier to sing high when youre younger
It made more sense than being 50 and having the voice of Showbiz
@@LuigiGamesfulHe still sings high even at 45!
this is NOT a fake, NOT a tribute band, THIS IS MUSE rofl and omg the fact this even exists is hysterically AWESOME \m/
terrybo8 it is Muse. This is how they got noticed!
Shyissonotboring They got noticed fo sho but it took a heck of alot more than just this contest. They played live anywhere and everywhere for a long ass time building up a devoted fan base. Ya gotta luv their two buddies doing "THE GRUNGE" dance rofl so awesome...and Matt's hair hahaha wtf AHdorable!
terrybo8 the beginning of the video, the announcer said "Muse"
James Funk I sit corrected! lol Thanks Darlin
Don't you mean....HYSTERIA-CALLY awesome?! Haha...no? Ok....
Its amazing how they went from a garage band to being on of the most talented bands in the world. Matt is a genius!
where are the lasers?
Matt's HAIR
and thus, the legend was born
yeah we thank them for 2 things:
- being the first 2 fans
- making us laugh our asses of at them through the whole gig
I dropped my phone, fell off the bed, and my cat thought I was dying!
the making of a *genius* band...
One my favorite band
Little did they know that in 2015 they would have 7 successful albums.
Matt jumping up & down, all around, LOL, so adorable, & his hair, wow, it is so long, they were so young, well younger, they are still young, I love Muse SO much :D :D :D :D :D
It was so sad for me though when I learned I was 2 years OLDER! 😳
@@tutsybassista Oh lord, I used to type so cringey! Lmfaooo To be fair, I was 16. 🤣💀

THAT MOSH
Lol. I thought the same thing
God bless the soul who decided to record this.
The drums sound like if he was playing Guitar Hero xD
Great to see a band as big as Muse went through all the crappy little gigs/battle of the bands etc. Good for young bands starting out to see that all the hard work can pay off.
Love this! "We're gonna play 5 songs that we wrote ourselves" he sounds so shy but it's adorable:3
He's always adorable and humble.
2:38 25 years passed and he's still the Jumpy Matt we've known and love
I cry everytime. Who knew this small band would be so awesome and end up playing MASSIVE concerts. YAY BEST LIVE BAND EVER
Our home town hero and battle of the bands winner

this is unbelivable. thank u sooo much for posting this!
Three kids with identical hairstyles. I hope they will do well in the future. I think they have big potential.
Aw look at them they're so little

Wow, I am so glad they found their own sound! No one would have guessed what an amazing voice Matt had from this song!

This is influenced some much by nirvana! I can hear it.

yes obviously
Just shows what hard work can produce
People used to write FUCK MUSE all over the walls at the Exeter music practice room because they got preferential treatment and more practice time because they were already better than all the other locals bands aged 18 or 19.
This should inspire any band to give it a real shot if Muse can go from this to what they are now
Thanks for uploading!
Muse put a video on instagram today where Matt talks about this concert. It was indeed their first real gig!
From this to what they've become now... 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
guys they were 15/16 so pretty good! like don't criticize too hard
I'm so happy to see what they were and what they are now
You can see some of the personal guitar tricks and even his style of playing. Its amazing.

Not his singing though

Those two dudes in the front are experiencing the best gig of their lives.
This is so great to see. Thank you for posting this.
Are you sure it was in 1994 ?
I thought they still were called Rocket Baby Dolls at this time...
yeah,i think its another gig cause they were defo called rocket baby dolls at the first battle of the bands..
They changed the name for this competition. They were known as Rocket Baby Dolls.
Alka-Young The description says this is a Battle of the Bands in Torquay, November 1994. They were Muse at this point. The first Battle was early in the year, in their home town of Teignmouth, and they changed their name a week after this
The announcer literally says Muse
And this kids...is how the legend began
I'm so proud of them
Можно сказать что группе уже 29лет🤘❤
Muse in 94 = 2 fans
Muse in 10 = 3,959,243 fans
you still can't beat them, they are the greatest band on earth
Matt looks like Brian Molko! Which is never a bad thing. Bless their friends for pretending they were in the Smells Like Teen Spirit video!
It seems they are still green there, but something Big was growing inside. Only three years later the record companies fought over them as soon as they heard the Showbiz demo. Awesome document.

Instrumentally I hear early works of Dead Star, especially with the hammering harmonic in the chorus
Muse live at Reading University (1999) is the first recorded *tour gig* of them, might be worth checking out that as well ;)
