Went to the interview today, was told by the manager as a new driver I would not get a truck with a side hydraulic arm but the model where you manually load the bin at the rear. Thats ridiculous to get out of your truck 200 times a day to do that then roll forward. A cdl is worth a lot of money, id be damned if thats what I do with it making 22hr.
Very good video, I was always curious how the heck a new driver learns the route, and it's nice to see that you're actually gps to each stop. I had a phone interview with them today, and I hope I get the job.
@@chronictwister Hey I have a question, I just had my phone interview with a waste management hiring manager and he said I did a good job and was well spoken. Do you know why you didn’t get the job when you had your interview? I hope I get selected. Also how long until you heard their decision from when you had the phone interview?
I knew someone who got in a car wreck against a Waste Management truck. They did not survive. Conveniently all the truck’s footage of that time has gone missing.
I work for another garbage company, but I can say that we do not. Dumpster routes have route sheets that give you turn by turn directions. Eventually, you just do it by memory. Hand pickups in the cities with sideloaders have maps with lines and arrows showing the sequence. Again, you go by memory after a while. Hand pickups with rearloaders where you may do both sides of the street, someone trains us and it exists only in our mind. I had a town when I was starting out where the trainer was going to be busy if I didn't absolutely need him, we did the town a few times before. The boss asked me "Can you do it?" I said "I may not do everything correctly turn by turn, but we'll get it done." "That's what I like to hear." Hell of a good boss. Hope that helps. :)
i do relief driving and knowing the rout by doing a ride-along is best, there is a lot of information that cannot be related by just clicking off a sequenced list left for you by the regular driver, head in? back in? where's the bin? safety hazards etc. GPS is used more for the tracking the driver, if you stop for more than 15 minutes you will get a call asking about your idle time. to answer your question--a rout is learned and memorized and has a timed benchmark that may be displayed at the next morning safety meeting for all to see. The top 3 quickest times are posted and the slowest 3 times are posted and are compared to the benchmark of the regular driver for any rout and will be post with the name of the driver who drove it last. Some routs are 1400 stops long, that's three loads and knowing when to head to the landfill may not be displayed on the On Board Unit. You are responsible for staying at a legal weight. AND better not have a mechanical break down. Customer Service Interruptions CSI are hard to recover from when nothing can be left for tomorrow to pick up one thing to remember...there is a drive-cam watching your every move. the trick is to make it through the day without setting it off with a video for your rout manager to see ruclips.net/video/LP9KJIMWmd4/видео.html

Good info can't see anything
On a touchscreen, try sliding your finger along the screen. I legit did not know RUclips supported this until just now.

If you work for the city, it's 14-16 hr

On a touchscreen, try sliding your finger around and it swivels the camera. I imagine it’s similar for mouse.
How does the driver do his route? Does the driver just follow a GPS?
