      Her fiance was said to "prefer the company of his friend". Since he ran off with him and died battling pirates in the Stepstones, it's very likely he was the one who called off the marriage.
      This was the tragedy of Aegon the Unlikely. He arranged good marriages for his children in hopes of securing alliances and they ran off and made him more enemies. His desperate need for some power eventually led to the tragedy of Summerhall.

      Sure Ol Joff was a sicko, but he was born like that. His mother's tendencies of making excuses for & pampering her 1st born, made Joffrey develop into something twisted & cruel. Sfprinkle on the fact that he knows he will be King & therefore everyone is his to torment. Your statement would be true, except we have 2 other sources to draw our conclusions from, that's Tommen & Marcylla. & they are both by all accounts, kind, generous, friendly & Personable. They were also solely raised by Cersei, but didn't develop into Joffrey esque types.

      Not only that, his mother also told him not to send Theon Greyjoy away. This would have actually prevented several issues later. Heck, he might have even won the war if followed his mother's advice.
