As a gay person, I agree with Dr. Gushee that LGBTQ individuals be held to the same covenant standards as straight individuals. But ... is celibacy before marriage, and life-long monogamy in marriage, the only way for Christians to go? That may have been true when people often married at the age of 12 (girls) and 14 (boys) and died in their 30s or 40s. But today people generally marry in their 20s or 30s, and died in their 80s or 90s. So ... remain celibate for all that unmarried time, learn nothing? I disagree. Once married, you are in it for life? What about the fact that people change, that marriage can become a cage for abuse, and only a healthy person will get out of a sick situation. Christian ethics needs more sophistication today.
