That's my tree and I'm over the moon with the end product, I always visualised you losing that last big branch so I am very happy that I was thinking along the same lines as yourself Corin.
Hi Steve, was going to call you, tree is done ! you'll have to keep it upright for transport so will need a van etc
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio I will call in on Saturday Corin thanks.
AMAZING WORK 👏🌲
Please post updates of the tree!
@@rickyruins2272 Corin warned me that it possible may not leaf this year. It has leafed well and is growing very healthily.
Normal service has been resumed. Great to see you back!
Hello from Florida!
I’m a big fan of your channel and always look forward to your videos.
Keep up the great work, mate!
I enjoy seeing the artist at work. You're finding the bonsai in that tangle of branches the same way sculptors find the sculpture in marble.
Very good result! Thanks for sharing this
I hope one day I will be confident enough to trim off big branches like that with no hesitation. Amazing transformation!
Keep your eyes pealed for an update on this tree, Its quite remarkable !!!!
Another great video Corin, it's nice to see the transformation of a garden tree to find the hidden bonsai within. Excellent 👍
That’s a great start to garden grown material, you’ve done a amazing job
WOW!!!
what a transformation!
Everything about this tree shouts "I want to be Bonsai"
I'm looking forward to seeing the progression in Corin's very capable hands.
The mark of the absolute Master of any Art and Craft.
Seeming to be so casual whilst transforming the piece with delicacy and perfection.
Bravo and well done you!
Great job on the Maple tree...
That's going to be a beauty Corin, The thick bottom left branch really had to go and has improved the form no end! 👍😎
Great to have you back with a nice video to start with
Mate, absolutely amazing, looks the bullocks already man, love these videos, proper inspiration 100% 👏🏻👊🏻💪🏻✌🏻
Love the way you style based on the future of the tree as opposed to making it look pretty now. Taking the decision to remove that thick branch was bold, but absolutely essential.
As much as I enjoy seeing you working on specimen trees, this kind of project is potentially available to the average joe like me, so it was really interesting watching how you approached what was a fairly challenging tree.
Great video as always. Would be great to get a little update on it later in the summer to see how it’s getting on after it’s major surgery!
Thank you for this video! I have an acer palmatum dissectum from a nursery, I know its not commonly used for bonsai but I just love the tree, and wanted to work one into a bonsai. I've been having one hell of a time finding ANY information at all on ascer palmatum dissectum and making them into a bonsai! This video, and your repotting video have been a wonderful source of information for me! I amm definitely getting your fathers book as well. Thank you again for this video. I'll be trimming and potting my dissectum for bonsai later next week!
Really enjoying all your videos, finding them really interesting, helpful and inspiring, thank you so much and God bless
A nice exercise for the viewer this, an excercise to see what we'd do before you do it, to see how close our decisions match. I came up with everything you did but questioned the last big chop, easier when you're actually there with the tree though. Lovely job, that will be a lovely tree 👍
Great to see you back missed these video's !! Great transformation.
Corin, lm amazed how you transform a garden tree into the start of something special, again lovely video please keep them coming, it was a pleasure to meet you on Sunday. All the best Bob 👍
NICE VIDEO CORIN , NO MUCKING AROUND I LIKE YOUR STYLE , CHEERS FROM NZ BONSAI GUY .
Great transformation! Good luck with the tree Steve Bates!
Nice place at the end. Congrats!!!! The colour mix of pot and leaves is just great.
Hi Corin, Its great to have you back with us. I sit and watch you working on this Acer and it makes me smile, and wonder how many beginners destroy trees thinking this is easy. Once again thank you for your time..
Everyone has to start somewhere. I bet all masters/ craftsman destroyed/broke something when they were "beginners "
Come on bob if you destroy a tree it will grow again we all have to start somewhere
Gorgeous! Great styling job, love the movement on the trunk.
Lol that’s a cute little saw!!
this is going to be a stunning bonsai
I hope so too
Thanks Corin. It would be nice to follow the progress of this tree.
Wow nice trunk and movement!!
Brilliant watch.
Great videos these pal, just got into bonsai and I love the way you explain what your doing and why . The beard is pretty epic too
Thanks for the videos
Love that tiny chainsaw!!
Great video. Beautiful tree. Lots of movement. Amazing
Excellent work and the way you explained. 👍👍🇵🇷
Brilliant transformation!!!!
i realy love it what you did on this tree !
Great work! Great interesting videos 🌳 thanks 🌲
Thank you for good advice different already pirates child different types wow 😋🥰
Wonderful video. Thank you!
Good work
PERFECT VIDEO
Great video thanks
what an absolute amazing video, it's amazing what you can do to any garden material, I'm now looking around the garden to see what I can put in a pot lol hopefully we'll be able to see the progression ;-)
Great!
Sei un mostro!
Complimenti!
Amazing 😍
Really love youre video's! keep it up!
Yeah my kinda big bonsai... great work! So many times I've heard nonsense like "disectums are just garden trees" or "they don't make good bonsai"...ha it's never put me off trying! ;)
after watching you use the ryobi nano I brought one my self absolutely a must need for bigger clean cuts .once again thanks for great advice and tool placement 👍 😀
love it, wants me to look in the garden for hidden jems ;-)
Brilliant as usual. Not a great fan of the adverts, but did not take away too much of the video.
Ive red japanese maple in the garden which i would love to try do this to. Been thinking about it for a few yrs.
Great video 👍🏼
Hasil akhirnya luar biasa👍
I rescued a maple that was dug out of a neighbours front garden in autumn. Its bigger than this one , I saved as much fibrous root as possible and put it in a whiskey barrel pot,it's going to need thinning out on top ! I hope it survives.
Nice video! The last big branch definitely had to go but i would have loved to see it air layred. It would have made a nice bonsai by itself with all that movement
It could have been air layered, but the purple dissectum is not so vigourous, also the main task was removal of growth so that the tree roots were more balanced for health of the tree and maximum chance of survival.
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio Yes i get that but it still was such a cool branch😁
Would've been a nice bonsai by itself if you could've air layered that big branch. It had a good shape, in my opinion. But it didnt fit with the tree. If it had been wired more vertically earlier on, thats the one i would've went with for the apex. I think you made the right choice, nonetheless.
I love the new look. I also have a dissectum waiting to be transformed to bonsai. Was just wandering if it’s the right time as I don’t have a greenhouse. ( I’m in UK as well) Also was wandering about the grow media, I know acer love acid soils, will peat moss plus perlite be good? Thx
Beautiful tree. Don't know about chopping that big branch off, perhaps splitting the branch in half towards the end and bending it would have been an option. But you are the expert! Great work!
Kinda hard to split and bend that in a maple.
@@alessandromassimo5717 correct, not an option in reality
I have an almost identical specimen in both shape and size which I have just dug up! Unfortunately it seems that most of the feeder roots were attached quiet low down and were lost in the recovery. Hoping there are sufficient remaining to sustain the tree in the coming months.
Hey Corin great video . Loved seeing the thought process. What's ur opinion on the branch in the front that's making a giant 'C'. Looks like maybe cut that back also to the next branch or 2 may give it even more movement. Great video
Yes, possibly, at this stage I cut away bits that are definately not needed. The next styling will look at branches in more detail.
I would like to see a video explaining abit about soils and why the use off pure Akadama for tree like maple's and elm like that or lave pumice Akadama for other tree's I'm going to be doing my own test on the soils to see the process of dryness and the outcome over next and to no the right time to water because it's a really big part of bonsai care and I'm going to get the right soil soon and would like to see the findings lave pumice and Akadama for me to do a good nice test of the soil I will be using so no tree can go without or be under water it's always best to no then to not no I guess this video is really good and all your video's have amazing information thank you
Your new space could do with some sound dampening foam to reduce the echo.
It will get better, studio is empty so more echo than usual
part 2 in ten years time then..
Nice work as always! How long do you think it will need to stay in that pot before being moved to an actual bonsai container?
Amazing! I wasn’t sure if you said it earlier but what time of year was this performed on the tree? You are truly an artist!
Very nice Transformation! The trees is not bleeding at all??
Amazing! I’ve got a tree very similar that I dug up last year, is it possible to arrange for someone to take a look at it if I bring it in?
👍🍎👌
So sad to see that last knarly branch go.
waaaw😎😎😎😎
Hi Corin, nice "guide" video. I am sorry about the lower branch -pretty movement - air layering would be possible . It could be interesting to see two ways (maybe on picture) - first you showed us and second: do not cut the lower branch (continue on to it), but cut the branch which stayed
It could have been air layered, but the purple dissectum is not so vigourous, also the main task was removal of growth so that the tree roots were more balanced for health of the tree and maximum chance of survival.
I'd say that big tap root wants taking out
Nice initial Style…it will be a awesome Bonsai! Did. you put sealer (lac balm) on the cutted roots too?
Not on the roots, just branches.
Greased lightning
I would love to know what watering/fertilising process you use to help that tree recover from the 'process' just shown.....as a (old) landscape gardener...keeping ripped out trees with little fibrous roots alive has always been difficult...Whats your secret?
Gday Corin, could you have put an air layer on the big branch lower left later in your season this year or would that have to have waited another year? Or is the dissectum roots to weak or slow, hence the reason for initial rootbase graft? Cheers from Oz✌
It could have been done, but would delay the styling and the tree would have to worked harder now to leaf up.
No worries, thanks for the reply, my question was a general one, not necessarily specific to the tree you worked. ✌
Will the graft line ever disappear?
No, but will become less noticeable with age.
So how is it that you can do this type of work now? how are you repotting in winter?
Because I start early, we don't have very cold winters
How often do you have to change the cutting chain on the mini chain saw?
I get through about 2-3 a year
What cut sealant did you use on that tree?
Lac Balsam, for sale on our website
Thats a very nice tree! I thought it was a bit of a shame to cut off those thick branches what could have been airlayered, but I guess not everyone has the time to wait. Nevertheless a great future bonsai!
Hi, why you put it in to compost soil and not to a bonsai soil - pumice+akadama+lava?
Because it would have needed about £60 of akadama. The compost is fine at this stage of development.
r u not concerned about die-back from those "smaller" flush cuts? Your advice would be much appreciated, thanks
No. Keep your eye out for follow up vid. very soon
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio thank you, will do, subscriber
I think you might need to add some sound deadening to the new studio to cut down on the echo's.
Still looking like a bonsai
Hi sorry what species is this?
Acer palmatum dissectum atropurpuream
It's a cut leaf Maple (Acer palmatum), Maybe a Garnet but i'm not 100% sure 👍
15:59 Noooo, that cut "ruined" the tree for me. :)
Hi. How's the tree doing?
The owner was at the nursery few weeks back, he said it was doing really well, he's going to bring it up soon so we can do a follow up video.
Very cool. Thanks.
When is the update??
ruclips.net/video/ZIpVfd1u2Rw/видео.html Just uploaded this morning !!!
Any updates on this tree ?
Yes, this was the update video -ruclips.net/video/ZIpVfd1u2Rw/видео.html
Thank you !!! Looks fantastic
Can we get you basic compost recipe?
ruclips.net/video/ZQHQ9e8_Pl0/видео.html
That big branch could stay as dead branch. I don't think removing it was the best thing.
Whilst you have the cutters in your hand, get rid of his stupid man bun.
WOW!!!
what a transformation!
Everything about this tree shouts "I want to be Bonsai"
I'm looking forward to seeing the progression in Corin's very capable hands.
