To me at 15:50 that lovely round pot was a sure winner. I absolutely liked the way it was evenly balanced out. From the movements of the tree, to the color of the bark, and the balanced tones of the leaves.
HI, For me I would go straight to the Hexagonal glazed pot that tones sympathetically with the trunk. Thanks for making me / us actually pause and think ...Bless you Corin.
Would it be possible for you to do a video on your farther. Having read/own the book your referencing above, it would be nice to know a little more about him and his journey with bonsai.
Either of the two on the bench at the end for me, they were beautiful. That was very informative, thanks. I have a similar tree (pre bonsai) in a wooden pot! Wish I had so many pots to try out before deciding!!!
For me the olive coloured one early on, that was brown on the back was my favourite. Good luck with your choice it’s a beautiful tree. I hope I have something like that in my collection one day.
I think that style of tree is really well suited to the low and wide type of pot. Great job with the video, I think this may have been the first video I watched exclusive to pots!
I always look forward to watching Corin's videos, very interesting, informative and educational. It was nice to see how a tree could work in various styles and colours of pots.
This was an excellent example of the process of finding a pot that feels right. Certainly you considered the options in creative alternatives. I only wish I lived nearby a vendor with a selection like yours!
For me the dark blue, the first one. I loved the contrast with the leaves of the tree. The cream one second choice, again the contrast with the leaves. Really enjoyed the video thanks
Love the cream at the end with the azalea and the final pot on the bench for the maple. Total agreement on those two selections, thanks for another enlightening video!
What a great little video, and perfectly illustrates how several different styles of pots can work with a tree depending on personal tastes and whether you want to emphasise the foliage or the bark, and complement or contrast. This tree looked great in several of those pots - I personally particularly liked the ones matching the trunk colour.
The hexagonal pot with the unusual glaze is the one sir !! It is perfect fits like a glove 🥊 and matches beautifully with the bark. That’s the one I would go with😉
14:40 is perfect. The base of the tree is too rugged and gnarled for those shiny, symmetrical pots. The style and shape of that pot matches it perfectly and will contrast well with the bright colorful leaves.
The two on the bench at the end of the video, I'm swaying towards the hexagonal one👍and the azalea should look amazing in the pot you placed in front of it 😊
personally i like the the matte blue (18:23) good depth size and contrasts well against the vibrant leaf. must look amazing with the evening sun on it... luckily i usually only have one pot to choose from so makes things easy.
I love the matte blue pot for the maple and the cream/white pot for azalea, it's just stunning. That combination stole the whole show :) All in all, what a lovely collection of pots!
Hello Corin. That’s was a really interesting video. My opinion is blue to green colour and style wise I think a case can be made for any. What was really interesting was how the pot colour can enhance the the trunk colour. Personally I like blue pots. But perhaps in my quest to learn more I should try experimenting more. I am planning to visit the nursery in the spring long round trip but I am sure it will be worth it.
The pot to the right at the end looked stunning but the hexagonal one looks great to. The ones that matched the bark colours seemed to work best to my eye. Preferred the creams and browns to blue
The pot that the tree was in at the very end or a cream pot for me suits the tree better , stunning tree and just goes to show its not one size fits all great insight into size, colour , shape and pattern of pots. The pots are and can be as beautiful as the tree! Love Corin's fleece too!
The grey/blue hexagonal pot compliments the maple nicely and gives a nice contrast with the bark and foliage. Would agree the cream pot definitely suits the azalea
Wow what a difficult decision. I can`t wait to see what one you pick. BTW out of your last four selections I like the blue Lotus pot. Thanks Mike T from NJ USA
Absolutely stunning if only we all had that many pots at our disposal it’s great to know how much thought goes into pot choice I for one like it in a few of your choices but like you I couldn’t narrow it down and I’m sure by March/April it will all fall into place 😜
Hello Corin, interesting video, enjoyed it. indeed this Tree looks good in many pots, I personally like the last u left the tree in n the blue in the starting,
For me, Corin, the blue/grey hexagon pot with the mottled glaze is the one. Not only the colour, but the markings on the pot seem to match the markings on the trunk perfectly. Thanks for the insight in the video.
Great overview of pot selection for the tree. Maple = muted blue scalloped for the Maple. Grayish one no. YES, for the Satuski Azalea definitely the cream/brown pot. That nails it !!
I love the soft colouration of the hexagonal pot, it let's the autumn leaf colour be the star, whereas the paler/creamy ones seemed to complete too much...but I can also see the lotus shape pot working xx
Thanks Corin. Just watched this (Mon evening). Could have done with seeing it earlier, as I called in today on a rare drive by returning from hols and picked up some small pots for some trainee bonsai. All good ideas and lovely pots.
Thanks again for such an informative video on pot selection. My choices for the maple is 1. the hexagonal one at 12.55 in the video, then 2. the one made by Pitt at 14.59 and then 3. the one at 18.28. As regards the azalea I totally agree with the off-white pot that you proposed...even though it is somewhat over-sized when not in flower, its visual weight (size and color and contours) will balance and match with tree in flower creating a magnificent combination....looking forward to see these trees in their new pot.
I love this segment on pots, so far my favorite, you could have displayed another 15 pots and I would still watch to the end. I liked the olive pot you were leaning towards but I’m sure whatever you decide the tree will look just as nice as in its previous pot. Thank you for this video
Fascinating Corin, thank you. For me I think the hexagonal pot it was in at the end of the video really suited the tree. I look forward to seeing which you choose in March.
At the end of the video the empty pot on the right next to the maple I like that one I'm also thinking it would give room for the root base and trunk to develop more I've not long started my journey into bonsai so my knowledge has a very long way to develop and I could be completely wrong either way I still like that pot for the tree. Thank you Corin love all the videos from Greenwood Bonsai
The cream-glaze hexagonal pot at 13:18 won it for me. When the atropurpuream is in leaf, the pot colour compliments the foliage and the rounded edges compliment the flow of the tree. It's also not too expressive so as to overwhelm the composition in winter when the tree's bare. I wondered about the complimentary hexagonal pot at 12:45. You're not going to like me saying this, and it's a matter of personal taste of course, but the grey glaze patina looks like water damage (if you're in a hard water area at least!). I'm sure it's a lovely pot seen first hand, but that swung it for me. Great video Corin. I learned a lot from this - thank you.
Definitely one of the last two pots you showed would be my choice. I like the more muted glaze and color on both. If I had to choose one I would go with the lotus shaped pot as my preference.
I agree with some of the other comments, it’s the last two on the bench for me. I think I prefer the lotus pot myself as I don’t feel it competes with the tree as much as the hex one, which I feel is too identical to the trunk colouring. Thanks for your videos. Keep up the good work.
Out of all of them I like the rectangular pot at 19:30 I think the shallower depth suits the slender trunk and it's also a really nice nod to it's heritage and your father.
Well Im sure I'm too late but I like the hex blue pot. Also, been watching your videos and enjoy them all to heck. Im over here east coast U.S. in the Appalachian mountains. Love maples.
Corin, this was like going to the opticians, is it better in this pot or better in this one and whenever you go the optician it's always the first lense they put in the frame that's perfect. 😎 😂
I would also consider the tree's autumn colour before finally deciding on which pot to use. Where I live (Southern Australia) Acer atropurpureum turns a lovely coppery gold through to red tones in Autumn. Assuming your wonderful tree ends up in Autumn shows/displays, I'd suggest this is when the choice of pot will matter the most! We love your channel - practical, helpful and very educative. Thank you.
Great video Corin, thanks for sharing. Deffo the hexagonal light blue pot (the one at the end) as it's a good match for the bark colour, the depth looks right and overall it has movement and just enough of a feminine feel about it for the tree. Look forward to seeing which one you choose.
Very interesting insight on the matching of bonsai with pots. The lotus (the second on the bench at the end) would be my choice; I believe it complements the bark beautifuly and adds a great contrast to the foliage. Looking forward for your next video!
Love the hexagon pot at ( 12:44 ) you’ve got a nice blue and interesting glaze that’s not overpowering at the same time. “Quite nice actually” and “it picks up the tones in the bark quite nicely” 😁👍🏻
I would go for shallow rectangle glazed pot or hexagonal matching the bark tones. Azalea in flowers would look stunning in this bigger creamy pot. Great video!
Yes on both, the larger cream with the rivets for the azalea, and then the hexagonal one that matches the bark, the color shifts in the glaze even match the cut scar, you can really see it in your first presentation at 12:47
Went to buy pots last weekend and didn't really end up buying anything for trees that I have because I realized how badly I needed the trees to be at the store with me to decided. You did exactly what I wished I would have been able to do. So many nice pots. I was amazing to see how much the entire composition changed with shape and color. Thanks for making the video and showing that! I would go with either of the two blue pots you have on the bench at the end of the video. They were my choices when you presented them and I am excited to see they made it to the "finals". :P It's a hard choice but I think that the tree is very feminine as you mention. The lace leaf's always give such a delicate appearance and the trunk has really an elegant curve. The highly glazed blue for me (which the tree is in at the end) reminds me of a slick nail polish and seems a bit more "showy". Perhaps it's a bit more fitting for the tree than the more matt finished pot. In summer she will have fiery red hair over cool water and in winter she will sit like a ghost over blue fog. Great looking tree and really cool that it used to be your dad's! ohh.. and the
The hexagonal one that the tree is sitting in at the end of the video is my fav for sure!
The dark blue pots made the leaves pop! I like the final pot on the other tree as well. A cornucopia of riches!
Either of the two on the bench at the end for me, they were beautiful. That was very informative, thanks. I have a similar tree (pre bonsai) in a wooden pot! Wish I had so many pots to try out before deciding!!!
I love the blue-gray hexagonal pot the tree is in in the end.
@23:24 Absolutely yes! It's perfect! Stunning!
Excellent video! Your father's book was the first one I purchased many years ago. Perfect resource.
Still is the best
Loved the pretty blue hexagonal at 12:50 👍😍😍
I always look forward to watching Corin's videos, very interesting, informative and educational.
It was nice to see how a tree could work in various styles and colours of pots.
The grey toned hexagonal pot looked amazing
Bill and Ben comes to mind 😉😉 love the last pot it’s in at the end .👌👌
How wonderful to follow in your father's footsteps in devoting your life to the appreciation and cultivation of beauty.
This was an excellent example of the process of finding a pot that feels right. Certainly you considered the options in creative alternatives. I only wish I lived nearby a vendor with a selection like yours!
I really enjoyed this video ! Thanks Corin.
The last hexagonal for the Maple…and the flamboyant pot for the Azaleas would be stunning!
Loved the 300 cream pot really set the tree off 😊
The sky blue on top of the shelf under your hand @ 0:08 + would be colorly awesome. Yes. C-O-L-O-R-L-Y. The birth of a word.
What a great little video, and perfectly illustrates how several different styles of pots can work with a tree depending on personal tastes and whether you want to emphasise the foliage or the bark, and complement or contrast. This tree looked great in several of those pots - I personally particularly liked the ones matching the trunk colour.
Thank you. Very nicely explained. Fine collection of pots you got there 👍
With the delicate fine leaves I think the sallower pot looks best, Elegant!! .
Very informative never knew there was so many pots, l can understand how important the right is and that it’s a personal decision. Thank you.
It's amazing how the colour and the shape of the pots affects the look and complements the tree, Great Video, Following your channel from New Zealand.
Thanks and welcome
I liked the last pot you had it in at the end of the video, but overloaded my brain with so many nice pots!
The book you showed at the beginning was the first bonsai book I ever bought still use it today for reference
The two on the bench at the end of the video, I'm swaying towards the hexagonal one👍and the azalea should look amazing in the pot you placed in front of it 😊
I liked the pot that melded into the trunk. The two on the table at the endow the video were nice too.
personally i like the the matte blue (18:23) good depth size and contrasts well against the vibrant leaf. must look amazing with the evening sun on it... luckily i usually only have one pot to choose from so makes things easy.
I agree with the colour. Not something I would choose, as the belly disagrees with the elegant trunk.
100%. Most of the pots would work but this one stands out to me too.
the grey hexagonal is my humble advice, thanks for another lesson.
I love the matte blue pot for the maple and the cream/white pot for azalea, it's just stunning. That combination stole the whole show :) All in all, what a lovely collection of pots!
Thank you Pavel, Yes that could work well, Im pretty sure the Azalea is going to go in the Cream pot.
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio so, Corin, how did the Azalea turn out? ;) did you move it after all? cheers
That maple is amazing and in my opinion it would look great in anything. Thanks for the video.
Like cream pot what a fabulous tree
Beautiful making, excellent,
The earthy lotus shaped pot at 16:40 looked beautiful.. Possible just a tad bottom heavy, but the tree looked stunning in that pot.
in real life that pot is a stunner
Lots of potential pots for the maple but you're right, that cream coloured pot is perfect for the azalea. Especially when it's in bloom. 😁👍👏👏👏
I'm new to your videos and have loved them all. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and teaching us beginners the beauty of these tree's!
Stunning pots all of those. I like the tree in the 2nd pot with the olive colour at the front but that’s just me 😮😊
I am very happy that you guys ship to the US from your online store so I can pick some good pots too!
The pot to the right at the end looked stunning but the hexagonal one looks great to. The ones that matched the bark colours seemed to work best to my eye. Preferred the creams and browns to blue
I've sold the Grey hexangonal one now !
The pot that the tree was in at the very end or a cream pot for me suits the tree better , stunning tree and just goes to show its not one size fits all great insight into size, colour , shape and pattern of pots. The pots are and can be as beautiful as the tree! Love Corin's fleece too!
The smile on my face, when you showed the turquoise pot at 17.20 but i really love colors and much contrast, but i also really like the two last pots.
And then you have all the fun of finding a tree for the original turquoise pot!
Love the hexagonal one. It’s colour and style seems to suit the tree the best, followed by the lotus one. 😊
The grey/blue hexagonal pot compliments the maple nicely and gives a nice contrast with the bark and foliage. Would agree the cream pot definitely suits the azalea
Love the blue
I liked the two you like but also the unglazed lotus pot looked very nice.
Wow what a difficult decision. I can`t wait to see what one
you pick. BTW out of your last four selections I like the blue Lotus pot.
Thanks Mike T from NJ USA
Loved this video!!

Right workout shifting all those pots about!
Hexagonal gray gets my vote.👍🏼
For me, Corin, the blue/grey hexagon pot with the mottled glaze is the one. Not only the colour, but the markings on the pot seem to match the markings on the trunk perfectly.
Thanks for the insight in the video.
I really like the lotus one you sat next to it at the very end
Definitely the last light blue lotus pot for the maple. Stunning match.
Really cool video, like how you go through everything including the back story of the tree
That was awesome, some of those pots are spectacular.
Thank's for this informationvideo.......i like it very much
Great overview of pot selection for the tree. Maple = muted blue scalloped for the Maple. Grayish one no. YES, for the Satuski Azalea definitely the cream/brown pot. That nails it !!
It was pleasure watching the whole process and the amazing pots as back here in India we don't have that much choices of pots 👍👍👍
Wahoo, i love your big pots...difficult to choose, i know...
Thats a shame I was out today, so must have missed you I guess
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio Never mind. Still some super trees on show. I'll call in again next time I go down the M1. One can never have enough pots.

that is definitely a fore runner, its a beautiful pot
The Lotus shaped one at the end
I agree on the last pot you showed it in. Good depth and color won’t overpower the tree.

i definitly learned one thing from this. i could not run a successful bonsai business i love all these pots and need them lol
I love all of them😂😂but at the end the last lotuspot would fit best for me.
Out of all of them I like the rectangular pot at 19:30 I think the shallower depth suits the slender trunk and it's also a really nice nod to it's heritage and your father.

Really like the round hand made pot
The one it ends up in at the end 👌
Very interesting insight on the matching of bonsai with pots. The lotus (the second on the bench at the end) would be my choice; I believe it complements the bark beautifuly and adds a great contrast to the foliage. Looking forward for your next video!

I like it in the creme colored one that complements the bark... the one you also considered for the azalea.
