Sir, your bonsai demonstration and instruction is inspiring to me as a novice enthusiast in bonsai creation . Thank you very much , from California , U.S.A. 👍
It's been my observation that mum's love to have these trees in their garden. Idk why specifically mum's just a weird thing but my point I always see them and I've always low key wanted to have one to bonsai but just never have done. This year I am going to buy two or three to have some fun with
It's been easy to spot the bonsai enthusiasts in Sainsbury's lately, they're the ones shunting the Omorika trees back and forwards looking for decent trunks. I was quite surprised to see how many trees my local Sainsbury's had in stock, I was expecting maybe half a dozen or so but there must have been well over sixty. Took me ages to sort through them all.😱
Thanks Corin. Got one of these last year with the intention of turning it into a bonsai, however Domestic Management decreed that it should stay as a mini christmas tree for reuse this year. Its actually done quite well over the year. I think I'll get another one and have a go. They look good.
Nice one Corin. Couple of years ago I found supermarkets and nurseries selling off the little 50/60cm Alberta spruces about £2 each in January. Good way into a cheap, convincing forest!
Wow amazing tutorial !!! I watched hours and hours of other bonsai artist but your quick demonstration taught me more than all those hours. Thank you very much for the tips from across the pond outside NYC .
Just bought a lovely, 3/4 foot tall Picea from local florist for £25. Turns out it’s got two lovely thick trunks, so maybe two trees. Very much looking forward to attempting to style it in the coming weeks. So this video was very helpful. All the best Corin!
It's my 1st year of bonsai, excellent video telling me how it is In layman's terms, every aspect of it explained perfectly, ill be watching again when I pop to sainsbury's 😂
Thanks Corin! We bought 2 here trimmed & wired them & they look fantastic. Almost as nice as yours lol. Thanks for the bonsai tips. We love trees!! Glad you’re feeling better too 😌🙌🏼🌲🌲
You've inspired me! I was suffering from Bonsaiing Withdrawal Syndrome having been a bit ill for a few months. Have just returned from that grocer with two items. Thank you for the motivation.
I know it was a year ago but the timing is perfect for this idea. Great video of tips and techniques. You're such a great person with your narration and ideas. Wishing you a great 2024. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos since I just found your videos. 🙏🫶🏻
Thanks for the video. I am a novice but have been in love with the process of Bonsai for years, I even tried my hand at it before. I have some decent stock growing now..
Very nice. please hang on to one to show the next steps with it too. I did this with a spruce from lidl last year but it had so few roots I've just let grow so far
I have just bought 3 dwarf Spruces at local supermarket in Carlisle for £24 with quite a nice height and quite good trunks so will start work on them soon and hope they will come out a little similar as your demonstration.
I’d like to see a big 6ft Douglas Fir or one along those lines!...that would be amazing!...of course it would most likely have to be maintained as a garden bonsai tree but I believe it would be worth it...may go do this project myself now that I think of it!
I have a 6' Doug that I collected from a volcano here in Washington, I have now had it for 2 years and it's budding like crazy, will finally attempt to repot it into a wood box I built. It was against some rocks so one side has no roots, need to center in the grow box and see if I can coax some out. My forever Christmas tree, along with 3 I grew from seed, I swap them out of my living room, each one gets a couple days so they don't wake up from winter slumber.
@@steveanacorteswa3979 that's incredible! Best of luck in the future with those projects! I'd love to have a natural collected Doug or a blue spruce...I've grown my own blue spruce and jacaranda from seed but I'd love to go somewhere and collect something elsewhere
@@elijahwilliams1425 I collected 4 trees on a Christmas tree permit , it's $10 a tree, only 1 died, a Hemlock that was hanging off a cliff, the rest are healthy and happy.
Spruce trees are quite difficult to train as bonsai - take long time to wire and then sometimes still spring back to the shape they want 😁. They were made for heavy snows, and being bent for many months during winter . They make surprisingly nice niwaki "cloud pruned " garden trees though - seen some nice ones in Poland
Allways an inspiration to see your videos! Thought I was done working in Bonsais for this year! But know I will go for some more Christmas Trees to have fun with! 🤩👍🏻
Last year I bought a lot of cheap trees just after Xmas (before New year) as they are all on sale! Be careful with being Christmas trees with intention of growing them as bonsai as some shops scam customers into buying potted trees which were actually field grown and only potted just before sale! Thr good thing is we will most likely repot them at this time of year anyway 👍
A great beginners video for bonsai. I particularly liked the advice about pot placement. I would like to see more of this. I'd also like an updated video about your soil mix in regards to not being allowed to use peat these days.
Hi Liam, We can use peat, in a few years we won't be able to sell it retail. But for now it's okay, the amount we use for bonsai is very small. Once we can't sell it we will have to use a lesser alternative that has probably been shipped halfway across the world by diesel engines, thus saving the environment. lol
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio yes, I imagine that will be the case. I'm thinking along the lines of a mix of coir and leaf mould along with perlite and John Innes. It should keep it nice and loose.
Wow, absolutely fantastic! Amazing how fast you went from a £10 tree to a tree worth a great deal more with that lovely pot! Have subscribed Cheers Aaron

Wonderful. I started one after having my tree outside 2 years after not using it again. How old do you recon they are when they are in the supermarket..... thinking of a rough estimate on the age of my tree.
I live north west England, will be looking in the shops on Monday for this type of tree. Can I cut the branches at this time of year, if yes would I have to dress the cuts? Any advise would be appreciated. Love the video
How would you keep them ? Outside i assume year round and come summer what care would they require. Love Christmas trees and pines but thought they was hard to keep happy in a pot.
Love bonsai but the biggest put off is my self as i can not seem to keep them alive. Had a supposedly easy bulletproof chinese elm and within a week of being in my house its dropping leaves. Had to put it outside under a makeshift cold frame and hope it survives uk winter.
Wow 12 quid for that tree in the supermarkets near me we don't get them that size or that cheap, a 1 foot tree is around £10 and the few close to that size about £30 to £50. Makes me wish I lived on mainland UK

Brilliant video Corin. thanks for sharing, and I'm going to head out now to hopefully pick one up.
Aha I was just about to go to a local garden nursery today to pick some trees up... Couldn't be more perfect timing ☺️

"Domestic management" you say. I call mine "the dragon". Have a great day

Youve made it look like something which has taken years to develop. That looks lovely.
Another great video Corin definitely gets the creative juices flowing off to scour the supermarkets tomorrow 😀

Great start to Saturday morning.what a fab wee tree any one would love to own
Enjoyed watching you turn a basic Christmas tree into the start of its journey as a bonsai for very little money. Thanks Corin.

Great Video! Beautiful initial Styling, well done mate 👍
These spruce trees make lovely bonsai with beautiful blue/green foliage … thanks for sharing Corin 🌲
Great video for those starting off in bonsai at an affordable cost. Loved the tidying up at 4.20! My wife would have recognised that.

Brilliant transformation. Definitely make it look way to easy,
Great stuff. Thank you, Corin.
Great video. Will be trying this tomorrow morning with my son
Nice looking trees, here in the states it's mostly Alberta Spruce, not quite as nice looking, but I have turned many into forests and bonsai.
Disappointed you not wearing the Santa-outfit, Corin. : \
Great job corin, I’m off to Sainsbury’s 🏃♂️
I should be on commission !
Thank you, for this very nice demonstration. Love it
You are an absolute artist. My mission now is to find one of those trees. 🙂🙂🙂

Coir is rubbish compared to Peat, and leafmold I'd never use as you can't be sure it doesn't contain unwanted fungus and pathogens.
Thank you, and what kind of soil do you use for conifers?

When will you do an update on your bald cypress?
Might do an update on it in spring, got to re-pot it
Very helpfull
Great video and thank you for going through the basics for all us new to the Bonsai world looking forward to giving this a go ....new sub :)

Great video. Think I’ll nip down to Sainsburys.
Nice video. How often do you water a Bonsai.
