Ranger Raptor's First Off-Road Test: FAILED! | Drive Control Fault & Trailing Arm Sensor Problem
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 авг 2024
- Today, I’m taking the brand new 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor off-road for the first time. I’m excited to get it dirty and see how it performs. Everything starts off great, but then I run into an issue with a driver control fault. After some troubleshooting, we find an unplugged leveling sensor causing the problem. We get it fixed and keep having fun, but the fault pops up again. It looks like we need to find a more permanent solution to protect the sensor. Despite the hiccups, the Raptor is a blast to drive off-road. Stay tuned for more adventures and a comparison with the Bronco. Buckle up Buttercup!

Jim is worth his weight in gold. When I heard him say how much he liked working on vehicles in the rain and that's when he did most of the work on my BRaptor. I realize I owe him at least another beer.
Awww! He is a good guy and was happy to work on your Braptor :)
Good old zip tie will fix that from accidentally unplugging. I've went through sand both beach and sand dunes, even Hell's revenge with no issues. Glad you tried the water and mud before me 😅. Still love this little truck. Just needs cooled or ventilated seats for the southern heat. Guess the people in Detroit only worry about cold weather and not 100+ degree summer days in the south
It has a zip tie and doesn’t fix the problem unfortunately. Overall, it’s a fun truck! I always recommend staying out of the mud cuz it’s a pain to clean 🤪
Such a bummer. In two months I have put on a couple thousand miles on mine. I have jumped it several times, smashed it through some whoops and g-outs, and slipped and slides all through some loose high speed sections. I’m actually shocked that I have barely kissed the steps and not hit anything else, even on the 33s.
The bronco raptor was definitely rowdier, but so far I actually enjoy off-roading this more and especially on roading this more as it’s quicker and better as a daily.
All that being said it’s a ford, I’m sure I’ll experience some glitches and or some recalls very soon lol. Good luck out there!
It is a great truck! No vehicle is perfect, and I’m ok with that. I’m glad to hear that you are out enjoying yours!
Looking forward to your take on the Ranger Raptor
😀
Congratulations on both amazing rigs, and all your accomplishments!
Thank you
I have a Ranger Raptor in Australia and i have bought a steel aftermarket protection kit for the those sensors and have never had a problem with mine...
So if there is a steel aftermarket protection kit already that shows there’s an issue with this connector failing …
@robertb7254 they were made to protect the sensors in Australia we protect as much as we can...it's the 1st time I have heard of the plug coming out....
Times like these where you just gotta have a few rolls of electrical tape, know what I mean
nice info. keep doing videos
Thank you!
“I think it has less than 100 miles on it” when the odometer reads almost 500 is crazy ☠️
Also this couldn’t possibly feel more scripted as a ploy to sell the product you managed to design, fabricate, (hopefully) test, and post on the internet prior to uploading this video. The “oh crap” and “oh my” reactions were very unnatural and poorly executed. “The last couple hours have kinda been stressed filled” was the nail in the coffin for me. I’m not saying this is all just a marketing scheme, but it sure felt like a marketing scheme.
This video is the reason for the product being developed, this video was also filmed before the product being a thought 😀
Looking forward to more Ranger Raptor offroading! Hope y'all upgrade to 4k soon, your great videos deserve better video resolution!
Aaaaaand here we go. I've been watching and reviewing NUMEROUS videos regarding the RR and like some have mentioned, how in the hell does Ford create such a vehicle for it to have fault like that? I'm waitng to see how you DIY fix this or protect it from ware and tear.
We ended up making a guard, so far so good!

You be looking like a minion with them green boots.
Im glad you were honest enough to post this. Most people would decide otherwise as it would hurt their egos, especially bias Ford owners. Hopefully, Fords not half assing these builds and throwing a tag on em because its a beautiful truck.
It’s a great truck. Thanks for posting your video and creating a part to prevent the issue.
Can we ask what trail that is you went to? Maybe I missed if you mentioned it in the video
This is a private Offroad park not open to the public.
There are companies that already make protection for all the sensors on the outside and underneath the truck. Unfortunately, they are not cheap. GMF4x4 in AUS is one of them.

@@BuckleUpButtercupTV And there you have it! Thanks for the link. I may have to invest in those.
Sad have a 60,000 truck and a $1.00 connector is causing problems.
Man now I want one hahaha
I was off roading yesterday and for the first time ever my Bronco Badlands on a trail and the dash lit up like a christmas tree of fault codes. Sta-bar disconnect fault, ABS fault, Traction control fault, etc... But the bronco just kept driving in 4hi. And when I got home the bronco had cleared all the codes on it's own and my Ford Pass app showed zero issues and no faults with the vehicle.. Is it possible it's a software and glitch and there's nothing wrong with anything??
Could be. Depending what you were doing, if you get mud on your traffic sensors, it can make your dash light up like a Christmas tree. If you’re not having further problems, it is probably something like that or a glitch. Glad to hear you’re using it though! 😀 happy trails!
ugh, so many new generation vehicles breaking with such little effort, it's really worrisome. at least this was as minor, but insanely annoying one!!!
I’m glad it’s minor too, just a little inconvenient for my fun having :)
Absolutely astonishing that Ford would manufacture the vehicle with sensors that can be so easily disconnected, especially a Raptor. I'm sure you and Jimmy will have a fix for it, but you shouldn't have to. Not for such an expensive truck. Regardless, keep smiling, it will get better.😊
Thanks! We did come up with something, here is a link to the masterpiece 😂😂

If you grab the sensor and unplug it by hand, that’s how you make a video
Zip tie it to the leaf spring?
Nice, we’re do you go wheeling in Florida? Keep up the vids
Our off road park most of the time :)
@@BuckleUpButtercupTV ok cool. Moved down here a couple years ago just trying to find a place. Thanks
there are metal protections to protect the sensor I have already installed them
Yeah I ended up making some! buckleupoffroad.com/products/buckle-up-off-road-trailing-arm-sensor-protector-and-skid-plate-for-2024-ford-ranger-raptor-set-of-2-made-in-usa
Well it's anecdotal but I have Had my RR in much more difficult terrain and mud and water with no issues yet, I enjoy it more than my bronco and my F150 Raptor overall.
Sounds like ford needs to add the safety connectors on there like you find on your steering wheel connectors
If you wanna reset switch motor off and you have to open the drivers door, will sort everything out😎
Mine has a strap around it. Yours seems to be missing it.
It does have a zip tie around it, but didn’t really do anything to prevent it :(
They should have mounted the sensor the other way so the water flow wouldn’t tend to pull the sensor off. Just use a zip tie to hold it on. No big deal.
Looked fun off-roading though
There is already a zip tie on it
if it moves and it shouldn't, duct tape/zip ties. If it doesn't move and it should, WD40 and heat.
its a good thing you put your rubber boots on SHM!!!
Yep otherwise I would be muddy and wet 🙄
Mojave! Maybe a (fun) tractor, solid like a rock.
Less than 100 miles...screw the break in process let's just send it!
Funny ….built FORD Tough logo comes up on screen when she re starts the Raptor
I hope a branch doesn’t catch that sensor connector and rip it off…that could be pricy being that exposed on the undercarriage
Now I see why everyone is installing protection plates on all these exposed electrical parts!
Real off roaders saw that coming after how she was splashing in the water
Yeah…she drives through water like it’s a boat and can’t understand why s sensor ripped off…here’s a clue: water is very heavy🤷🏻
It's the headlight leveling sensor. Buy a guard for it.
I made one!

Seems like a set up to push their product, I haven’t seen anyone else have this issue…
Can you zip tie them in place? Cheap easy fix.
They are already zip tied from the factory and it’s doing it.
@@BuckleUpButtercupTV woah
@@BuckleUpButtercupTV add a extra zip tie across the connectors from end to end so it can’t be unplugged unless you cut the zip tie. Use a long skinny one
Gonna need a Bigger Zip Tie!!
it's a loose connector
Nice truck. Check your insurance most don't cover you when driving off road, $100000, gone in 20 seconds...
Good thing it didn’t cost that much :)
Where are you getting 100k from? 🙄
GEICO:
We received your inquiry regarding your vehicle being covered when used for off-road. We will be happy to assist you.
Your personal auto insurance policy provides coverage when your vehicle is driven for personal use.
Please note that if an accident occurs when using the vehicle off-road, the claim may not be covered. After the claim occurs, our Claims department would determine if the claim would be covered.
Every Ranger Raptor I’ve seen has a rusty drive shaft even the ones sitting on new lots!
Wow!
Why pick a white truck? It looks like a work truck with a tire upgrade. Good thing it says raptor.
It is a work truck!
You just can't take these new vehicles in water. There are too many electronics to go wrong. I do appreciate you doing it though.
Only problem is, I have gone through bigger puddles out on the road :/
Well, my 2021 Jeep Gladiator (Rubicon) is rated for 30" of water...how can Jeep "do water" and Ford can't?
-- BR
Sorry mate you’re wrong. We’ve been taking these through deep water for the last two years and no issues. With the forward facing air intake a snorkel is a worthwhile investment.
Is the Bronco the Black sheep now?
Ford ranger the most reliable vehicle ever😂😂😂😂
As usual. Fix On Repair Daily! Found On Road Dead! Typical F.O.R.D.
As usual idiotic comments from losers that cant afford one!
Wow. Ford engineers FAIL again. They need to fix this issue under warranty for all Rangers. This is inexcusable to leave a connector exposed to the elements.
Trailing arm sensors? Really? Do they give you a dash screen message that the arms are trailing? And the sensors aren’t weatherproof? On and over landing vehicle. Jim Farley disappoints again.
Electrical tape anyone?
I love these videos because it reminds me of why I'm done with Ford. Ever since Rona they have been garbage. Can't wait to get rid of my 2022 Ford.
I don’t think it’s that bad!
@BuckleUpButtercupTV all you are doing is dragging out the loser ford haters.every truck out there has issues but these losers just have to say something when it's a ford.I will never understand these whiners.
@@casper24ism lol I have a Ford, homie. Rona 2022 Expedition. Glitchy as hell so when I get excited about something new like the Bronco or Ranger Raptor these videos keep me grounded in not buying another Ford product even though I've owned 5 Fords. Hater my backside.
@@MetallicA29 so tell me genius what truck does not have issues.I will wait!
@@casper24ism lol same lame argument. Built Ford Tough used to mean something, homeslice.
Thats a shit spot put that least just coming unpluged in water go over brush probably just break totaly off
I do think if it were more tucked under and up it wouldn’t be such a problem. I think just rubbing over a branch would do something :(
You are going to have to get used to this.the sensers are allways going to be a problem.my bronco raptor who I beat the shit out of took it like a champ.but I was plagued with sensor issues.and the losers that talk about ford no one makes a vehicle like this no one! So laugh all yiu want its the very best truck on the market by alot! Maybe you losers are not noticing the issues with the new tundra.the new tacoma.the chevy zr2 bison in a pos.ford destroys everything in most catigories!
U want to go in the water buy a bigger boots not pick up truck!!!
Not a real Raptor...just like the Bronco version
No raptor is a real raptor, is a raptor even an actual raptor?
More Raptor than a Tacoma or Chevy..🤣🤣
Zip tie! Come on, are you pros or what?
It was already zip tied
HAHAHAHA. FORDS. 🙄
