    The value is not so great here, but I am thankful for them. I absolutely adore this years retro cards, they really pop. The Adam Fox you got in retro is super nice looking. Of recent years sets, the retro set this year is one I hope to get in time ^^

      I'd say the McD OPCP Preview Violet Pixels is a box hit, along with the two manufactured patches. So, I think one of your boxes overdelivered a hit.

      Also pulled normal retro rookie Leo Carlsson haha.
      Any of those rare or worth keeping or not really ??

    • @Fultoncards
      @Fultoncards  11 месяцев назад +1

      Short answer: Collect cards of players you have a sentimental attachment to. Long answer: Don't believe the mainstream influencers and breakers who focus on card value. It's the wrong side of the ledger. What matters is how much you spend on cards, not what cards are worth. When you buy a couch, do you think about its resale value? No, you think about how much you should pay for it. And, if you want to invest, the stock market is at all-time highs. Invest in actual equities, i.e. companies that contribute to society and have tangible value. Cards are just cardboard, and we have entered a new mass printing wax pack era. The time to invest in the hobby is when no one is in it, not when everyone is in it.

    For 7 bucks it can be worth it depending on what rookies you get last night I bought 1 fat pack and got 2 fantilli rookies for 7 bucks that’s a steal !

    • @Fultoncards
      @Fultoncards  11 месяцев назад +1

      I hear you, Landon. But the premise of my channel is we can't judge a price based on a single outcome, yours or mine. We have to do the math. So, let's say fat packs deliver two rookies on average (1.5 base Marquee Rookies and 0.5 Retro Rookies). Let's say there are 60 rookies on the checklist. Your odds of hitting Fantilli in one pack is (2/60) * 100 = 3.3%. And, your odds of hitting him twice in a row are (2/60)*(2/60) * 100 = 0.1%. Granted, the odds are multiplied by two if you also want the Bedard. But, does 0.1% odds sound good to you? The next guy who buys fat packs has even less than 0.1% chance to get two Fantillis because there are two less Fantillis in existence.
      My point is a box of 2021 UD The Cup for $1,000 is definitely worth is if you hit a $1,200 McDavid card in the box. But, if you only have, say, 3.3% odds to hit that McDavid would you still think $1,000 is worth it, when on average the box yields $300 of value once opened? The difference between a professional poker player and a gambler is the professional makes decisions based on understanding this math.

    If the hobby wants to encourage collecting for fans that don’t collect, then they need to include better cards in retail packs. The retail packs are expensive and full of junk.

    Bedard’s are short run, you have a 1 in 500 packs chance of pulling his rookie cards.

    • @Fultoncards
      @Fultoncards  11 месяцев назад

      Tom, I don't think that works mathematically. His common rookie card cannot be 1-in-500, or only two cards per 16 hobby box case. Those are the odds of actual SPs like Wood Variants, or his OPC Premier insert and his OPC Base Retro. While both his base Premier and Retro do land only 3% of the time, so does everyone else on the checklist. Also, historically all OPC Marquee Rookies have been produced in the same frequency. Otherwise, UD would disclose it as a SP on the checklist. In fact, normally it would necessitate the disclosure of stated groupings.

    Not sure if it's just a figment of my imagination but I have a weird feeling that all these cards are going straight into your next flat-rate USPS box giveaway. Still a good entertaining break though. Set builders of the world unite!
    P.S : I have fond memories during the early 2000's of triggering the sensors in stores and being asked if I'm carrying a CD/DVD of any sort. Of course, the answer was "yes" (2000's). Anyway, at the first occurrence my inner thought was "okay, so basically I could get out with anything for free as long as I have a bunch of old dirty CDs in my bags?". Don't get me wrong though, never even dared to take advantage of that "subterfuge". Because... Karma is real.

    • @Fultoncards
      @Fultoncards  11 месяцев назад +1

      I wish! It goes to underprivileged ppl locally. In my formal giveaways, for low-end, ppl are far more likely to get Allure or OPCP, as they are at least worth the shipping costs. OPCP isn't even worth it for me to send to COMC, given the transaction costs.

    • @jeremylavoie301
      @jeremylavoie301 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Fultoncards Awh common. Allure and Platinum are exactly the kind of things I thought you were swinging in. Sharp looking cards that have enough luster to please anybody. This being said, I'm pretty sure you will find takers for your "leftovers". I do the same thing for children within my "entourage"'. I call it a vital necessity, otherwise I would be chocking in cardboard right now.

    • @Fultoncards
      @Fultoncards  11 месяцев назад +1

      Jeremy, I grab anything/everything from all my recent boxes, including vintage ones, low and mid. And I sprinkle in a bunch of hits of their team. I don't really open too much high-end, other than Leaf. But I do include some Leaf autos and relics. I can send as much as eight or nine 500-count boxes, but the true hits per 500-count box usually sit on the top of each. There is no rhyme or reason to all the cards, other than easy access to them.

    • @Fultoncards
      @Fultoncards  11 месяцев назад +1

      Well listen, Paul. I hear you. But I'd argue he already has the second best release in the entire NHL. He was eligible for two more World Juniors, and he already has the most points ever by any Canadian. He was better at the WJC than Gretzky, Crosby, and McDavid. Plus the NHL is much wider open hockey than ever. He looks, smells, and quacks like a Crosby. I don't know of any Gretzkys, Crosbys, or McDavids who failed, because you can count them on one hand. Orr and Bossy got injured. Lafleur retired early. And Lindros decided to be a (concussed) Scott Stevens instead of Jean Beliveau. Bedard is not Daigle (who only wanted fame), or even Yashin. And Bedard's no first overall pick from a garbage draft. He would have gone ahead of Patrick Kane or Matthews. He's a generational talent who can already shoot like Matthews. Matthews amassed more goals in his first 500 games than even Ovechkin. Can greats be stunted or get injured? Sure. But what makes Bedard different is his that he is doing everything he can to transcend the game. So does the hobby want a shot at a potential "new" Crosby rookie card in real-time? Sure. Is it worth it, and will there be massive overprinting? That's a philosophical discussion. But, ppl sure wish they had bought tins of 2015-16 UD The Cup at $250 not the $5,500 it costs today. And in any event, cards are just gaming and penny stocks. So it's all just an extension of social media group-think.

    • @PaulSmith-fz3qc
      @PaulSmith-fz3qc 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Fultoncards no argument on any of your points. He projects like the next generational talent. I guess I’m old school and not in love with the gambling like mentality of modern collecting. I liked set building when I was a kid but with the crazy prices and inflation of some products like hyped rookies that becomes almost impossible. With Bedard though I worry about his longevity with such a tiny frame. For me risk reward would be too high at this point. Just personal budget and risk taking level he makes me nervous.

    • @Fultoncards
      @Fultoncards  11 месяцев назад +1

      Ya, I hear that. But, with penny stocks driven by Reddit/Robinhood types, primarily in their 20s and 30s, the market isn't meant to be rational, or about taking the longview. I had to sit on my Gretzky RC for 40 years for it to be worth a single mortgage payment. And he has almost 3,000 points, and 1,000 more than the next guy. Markets move in different directions along different timeframes. And the release day driver is short-term speculation. What Bedard actually accomplishes is two decades away, and mostly immaterial, as long as he sustains the present collective imagination. Crosby's YGs were at their height on release day. Then they dipped under $80, when hobby hype died and everyone unloaded, during his concussion. That would have been the time to buy. The time to "invest" is when everyone has vacated the market. The time to sell is when everyone is in, at the height of consumer sentiment. So I get your reticence. It's really good intuition and common sense. I myself see it more as an "event" that we share, like a playoff run. And tickets naturally aren't cheap, whether we win or lose.
