How far can you drive a Ford E-Transit on ONE charge? - New World Record!!!!

  • We set out to achieve something that's never been done before. We wanted to see how many miles you could drive our 2022 Ford E-Transit on a single charge. After owning our van for a few months, we've learned the most efficient ways to drive the EV. We carefully charted our course, and we set out to achieve the impossible.
There are too many blanket statements that say these All-Electric vehicles can't drive far on a single charge. There are too many who claim you'll be lucky to get the rated range from the van. The rated range for our van is 106 miles from ‪@ford‬ and this video proves this to be a very conservative number. In fact, we routinely see between 140-170 miles of range based on our daily driving habits. Notice the blue range number in the beginning of the video shows 170 miles. This was following a day of normal usage.
We set a few rules for this drive:
    1. You must start and stop from the same charger location.
    2. You must make it back to the charger under the van's own power. No towing.
    3. You must remain on public roads. No closed course driving.
    4. You must do this in a single drive cycle. No turning the van off. No stopping. No charging. This also allows for you to be able to prove your drive with the FordPass app.
We set these rules to maintain some form of reality with this drive. Yes, you could easily coast down a mountain for a hundred miles and cheat the system. Yes, you could drive in the same direction all day with a significant tail wind and allow mother nature to give you a push. Those would both result in more mileage but that style of driving isn't reality. You would eventually have to drive back up that mountain or drive back into that heavy wind.
*Note* - We also did this with 2,100 pounds of cargo in the van. This wasn't an empty van. We wanted to show that this range could be achieved in the exact same setup we drive every day for our plumbing company. We didn't establish a rule for what the vehicle must weigh because everyone's van is set up differently. Ours is pretty heavy and we drive with this much weight day-in and day-out. If you decide to challenge our record with less weight, then your mother will be disappointed in you. So don't break her heart.
    Was our speed realistic? Absolutely.
    Was our speed legal? Absolutely.
We drove for 16+ hours and encountered no fewer than 20 different police vehicles throughout the day. None of them had any issue with our speed. We even captured the last police officer on film as he cruised on by.
We hope you can learn that these vans are way more capable that you might think. So feel free to put aside some of what you've been told about the Ford E-Transit and go try one for yourself. You'll soon like just like we did that they are the perfect vehicle for in-town delivery and service work.
Ironically, we experienced a glitch in the FordPass app for our drive. The app shows that we only made one trip on October 6th, 2022. It shows that trip to have consumed 67.8 kWh of energy from the 68 kWh battery. However, there is a major communication error with the mileage and the app only shows we drove 49 miles. At this point, we can only assume that it has something to do with us driving laps on the same road all day. We think the mileage comes from a GPS location and since we were in the same area all day, the GPS didn't pick up enough of a change in distance to record the actual mileage. We called the FordPass customer service the following day and opened a trouble ticket to resolve the issue. They recognize a communication error and have escalated the issue to the engineering team. We are hopeful that we'll be able to validate this drive with FordPass verification soon but it's out of our hands at this point. When this correction occurs, we'll post a new video showing the historic drive on our app.

Thank you so much for posting this excellent video. It is important for several reasons. Not the least of which is the fact that it proves that we eTransit owners can pass long stretches of rural routes when necessary on critical missions, just by going slowly.
Yes it's annoying to go 30 or 40 mph when we have the option of going 55 but it's the difference between crossing a 200 mile stretch between chargers on the road.

Question; Did you check the tire pressure before departure? One trick for hypermiling is to overfill the tires slightly. Even if you didn't want to cheat by overfilling, filling them to the max pressure would maximize efficiency all else equal.

Interesting video, but 19mph average for 16 hours. Ok, that's great but most people can't take 16hrs of driving to conserve energy. I have a dodge caravan and it's rated for 15-25 mpg with a 20 gallon tank. Normal day driving 200-400 miles depending on how you drive and the terrain. But one time I drove from Reno, NV to salt lake City, UT on a full 20 gallon tank. 550 miles with an average of 55-60mph and stayed off the gas. Mostly straight and flat with some small downhills and uphills. Arrived in salt lake City with 150 miles remaining and the average mpg was 34.5. I didn't get gas until it was low tank, and had 650 total miles travelled on that one 20 gallon tank. So, even an ice vehicle can achieve double or better mpg and total distance from one tank. Don't know how the e-transit in UK gets 200 miles but that's what the u.s. should be doing. EU is also far ahead with their tech and mpg for work vans. Vauxhall movano diesel 48mpg, Ford E-TRANSIT diesel 43 mpg, and Mercedes Benz diesel 35mpg.
