Glad you liked that the punchboard components are labelled. We're trying to make that a standard going forward on all punchboard sheets to ease organization and unboxing.
isn't it a bit redundant for something that is headed to the recycling bin anyway?
The defiant docks with the nose of the ship. It reverses and pulls forward when it leaves the station.
Love that you’re covering this new game. Very excited. And AMG has my head spinning; feel like I need something new that, you know, actually comes with stuff!
Those models look so great! Interested to see what a full game looks like!
That sweater needs to make more appearances. 😂
Production quality looks solid.
Looks like a step up in quality from the kit i played at adepticon. The game was a lot of fun, and once you have a few core mechanics down the rest is pretty intuitive. Really hope this game does well!
this is a promo kit they sent out to streamers, will the production versions be as good quality? in the past whizkids has had some pretty horrible production runs.
I love what I’m seeing, but I’m wary of WizKids. Their production schedule makes AMG’s look good. And reprints? If Attack Wing taught us anything, it’s that you better buy it when it first comes out. Still, the game looks great, so I’m looking forward to buying & playing.
That has got to be the greatest sweater shirt ever worn!!
Ha ha thank you!
Star Wars - Sorry we can't sell these ships pre-painted anymore because its too expensive and so we're shutting down production.....
Wizkids - Hold my beer. 10:57
Can't wait for April 2024!
I tease, such is the way of protecting release dates and setbacks
The Defiant and smaller Dominion ship look like the sculpts from Attack Wing.
I can’t wait for Klingons and building a Bird-of-Prey fleet
Saaaaame.
I think its safe to assume April isn't happening lol.
It would be very cool if it was possible to port over all the attack wing ships I already paid for. Can't get away from foiled cards either it seems. How can you enjoy the artwork with everything covered in those little divots? Another set of proprietary dice, better not lose those. I hope the actual game gets a paper rulebook. If I bought a game and had to scan a QR code for digital rules I would be pissed.
Looks promising! If I can ever do the battle of the Mutara Nebula with this game system - insta-buy!
The components look GREAT. I'm very impressed with the ships themselves.
The part that (still) worries me: the ship cards. There's still a LOT going on those cards. I'll have to see the game actually being played before I decide to pull the trigger
Be interesting to see how customised you can make your mini fleet but looking forward to this
So very very excited for this!!😊 Thank you as always for your content!
I love the ideas in the game but everything looks complicated. I hope it's easy to understand once you get into it.
Well, they've got me interested. Will have to get one of my buddies in on this too.
Maybe errata that release date at the end of the video?
ROFL I've been holding on to this video all year!
Lol! That makes a lot more sense now. I was wondering how you were wearing a sweater in your garage in the middle of summer... in Florida! 🔥😆🔥
I just wish we’d gotten an Akira instead of the Stargazer. Even a Miranda or Sabre would have made more sense. Oh well, it still looks amazing and I can’t wait for my preorder to arrive! 22:43 cmon, the docking tube is right in front, you see the defiant docked in the opening credits from season 3 onwards!
Those pegs could allow for a 3D aspect to interact with top or bottom hull zones... probably will never happen. but it would be cool.
October can't come quick enough.
Can't wait to see a full game.
Very exciting! I am hoping to get a demo of this game at GenCon if at all possible
Never thought Wizkids would save space battle games.
The ships are so tiny. That's pretty neat! I bet the Galaxy is gonna be pretty big compared to these guys.
Make it so!
I want to play this!
Interesting. I'm always of two minds about a combat game set in Star Trek. On the one hand, they can be a lot of fun - heck, I met my best friends because I was active in Star Fleet Battles during the 90s. On the other hand, for the Federation, any time a situation becomes violent it means they've already failed and are down to trying to mitigate the effects. Because, of course, the thematic message of Star Trek is that "We might not make it perfect, but if we just *try* we can make the world a more fair, more just, and less violent place." (This is why I argue that, although DS9 is some very, very good television, it often isn't very good *Star Trek*. Something can be good Trek and bad TV or can be good TV and bad Trek, the two qualities are distinct.)
Whereas a game *based* on the violent conflict must, by it's very nature, imply that the use of arms was an acceptable choice in that situation. And look, I'm not saying that in the real world there's never a justification for violence. Nazis and the Taliban exist. Even in Trek, sometimes you're down to no good choices and fighting back is the least bad result. It's just that in games of this nature, that nuance of "we're only fighting because it's the least bad choice" tends to get lost.
However - the line in the blurb about "negotiation system" does at least suggest that there are ways to win the game without blowing the other guy to bits. So I'm at least interested enough to go learn more. And since this was the first I'd head of this game at all, thank you for the introduction!
I wonder if this will be at GenCon.
Lots of demos at Gencon
Based on event schedule information, Into the Unknown is expected to get highlighted on 2 August. Maybe.
any thoughts on scale? do you think they will have any kind of consistency
Looking forward to this new game. The miniatures look awesome. Can’t wait for the initial release.
I don't even watch Star Trek and I gotta say thing is tempting....
Hopefully you record a demo game of this. I am interested to see how it plays
Give me the Ferengi!
Looks like this was made during the last holiday season, due to the last line "this will be out by April-May of 2024" but hopefully, we get it in the fall of this year! Thanks for the unoxing!
At the moment official WizKids page says Q3. But as a long term Attack Wing player I learned not to attach to any date they publish.
Is that a Star Trek Christmas sweater??
The ship cards are pretty nice, wonder if they will have like a "fleet" card with similar dials?
Great review !!!! I really do enjoy your reviews! 😀😀😀Maybe it would be good to mention that this is a re-upload??? The publishing date April 2024 might be confusing 😉
I take it you never watched DS9, lol! 😂 The Defiant docked with the station facing forward at the bay situated on the Docking Ring between two outer pylons (the vertical extensions). Hope that helps. 🙂 And thanks for this detailed review, by the way. I really hope this game lives up to its potential.
Why the Christmas sweater?
Hype hype hype hype
Looks great, may have to be my next game
Fingers crossed for Species 8472.
isn't that started set supposed to come with 3 ships on each side? and the enterprise is actually quite large? maybe large as chimera? plus the jem hdar carrier craft;? Wish they woulda sent ya some of the larger ships to compare size.. LOL APRIL? it's almost august and it's still not out.. But maybe with the death of X-wing this might get some traction.
can you just buy the ships in the stands?
Seems like it'll be interesting.
Hold on a second. Did you wear that Trek Christmas sweater because you wanted a Trek themed shirt in the video, or did you make this video last Dec/Jan and could only just release it now? 😂
Well he did mention the release is April 2024..
Looks cool. Thanks for the preview. but I assume you meant the release is April of 2025 not 2024....
No, it was originally scheduled for April 2024. Seems like this video was made before the delay even if it was just released. The game's currently scheduled for October.
interesting. I hope this does well.
Interesting but I'm on the fence due to X wing
do we think that a galaxy class or a Romulan warbird will have the same base as these? are they going to be to scale or will it be a truncated scale?
So far they are in scale. The Galaxy class base is significantly larger than these.
why does the sisko card look like Chris Rock as Benjamin Sisko?
Arg! My wallet was so hoping I could skip this game, but it keeps looking better. My wallet hates you, but I think you for exploring this game. I played many Wizkids games in the past. Attack Wing gameplay never felt right. Into The unknown looks so much better.
Interested to see game play
This just looks so overly complicated.
The movement mechanic used is super fiddly and annoying. And while the game captures the feel of an episode of Trek, that’s not something that I think will attract a lot of players. Managing 3+ ships in a big battle, Armda style, is where I think players are going to want this game to land, and I see it having a hard time doing that.
I completely agree with you, I don't understand why they're always compelled to over complicate things when it comes to star trek games.
You said coming out in April 2024, but, it's July already. Did you mean 2025 or a different month?
WizKids’ original release date was Q1/2024. It’s now late July, and the newest revised release date is Q3/2024 (everyone is guessing late September). But, since it is WizKids, you never really know.
I've had this since the Holidays - and at the time of filming it was planned to release in April.
Art director here, for what it's worth.
I think everything looks great... except the graphic design. The tokens and ship boards are utterly generic, and the 15,000 symbols all over everything are nonsensical and not intuitive at all. Brushed metal texture on tokens? Really? Is this 1997?
None of the graphic design says Star Trek. The shapes and colors could be from any low-budget indie Kickstarter sci-fi game. The components aren't even using Trek fonts. Would it really be that hard to use an LCARS graphical style to keep it in universe? Even Attack Wing got that right.
Honestly it's very disappointing, especially when the acrylic templates and ship models/bases look so great. This really needs improvement; the graphics make the game look much cheaper than it is. Black text on white cardstock is what you use when you just don't care - it certainly doesn't make me think Star Trek.
The movement tools look sooooo wonky. But I’m still buying the heck out of this game tho 🤞🤞
forgive my cynicism, but is this yet another game that will be abandoned a few years from now?
This one isn't Asmodee. Granted that's no a guarantee of anything concrete but it's still worth noting. Asmodee have made countless mistakes over the past few years, but this is a whole separate company.
@@jediguy634 to be fair whizkids of the past had a pretty shoddy track record, looking at you Mage Knight 2.0
@@jediguy634 no they don't, WTF snake oil are you trying to peddle here?? Attack Wing products have ALWAYS been more difficult to source than X-Wing, and the retail prices are outrageous.
@@electricfootballhero1349 The question was if the product was supported. Not how hard the product is to get.
Attack wing has has over 30 waves with the latest coming out early this year. Organized play support events have had about 2 major kits a year. I would say that's pretty darn good. Wiz Kids is clearly supporting the development, just cant produce enough product.
I don’t want to start a fight, but WizKids are bad with product availability. They do reprints once per 2 Olympiads. Their release schedules are optimistic and misleading. None of my FLGS carry their new products anymore, because they still have D&D Onslaught sets that were overhyped and then abandoned. I love what I’m seeing with this game, and my kids and I always had fun playing Attack Wing and Heroclix, but I hope WizKids get their production and release schedules sorted out, so that this game can (ahem) live long and prosper.
Honestly, I'm of the view I want more of the generic characters, instead of the named characters.
In truth, I hope we get a mix both in more expansions.
ENGAGE!
Don't you mean April 2025. Not April 2024 because that's been and gone.
this was filmed many months ago lol - back when the release date WAS set for April 2024.
Looks very well made, cant wait to see more gameplay
Really looking forward to this game. Love the Armada-inspired dials. The amount of iconography seems a bit overwhelming at first glance but I'm sure it will be more clear after a few play-throughs. I love the potential for extremely thematic gameplay with all of the rules and focus on objectives/scenarios, etc. This might also scratch the itch for light version of Star Fleet Battles. Hopefully, we get to see this game later this year. 😁
looks awesome... though I do hope that's not the final draft for the logo... it's so boring and silly looking. almost as bad as writing it in comic sans.
