    My experience was that I was overwhelmed by darkness it was like I was lifting a heavy weight. The energy was so heavy that I couldn't move and all I could do is lay down and sleep. But the most interesting thing is that I started to see wrathful deities in my vision. When I close my eyes I see Tibetan paintings of wrathful deities.

    Get your information from a reliable source. Don't get involved with Mahakala without an initiation from a Tibetan Lama. This is a practice for students who already have years of practice and some attainment in meditation. Otherwise. no. It won't help you. Fooling around with these things without initiation can be actually dangerous for you personally and spiritually because your energy will go the wrong way. Its like a train crash that happened because someone forgot to pull the tracks to a different path. So don't. I have done this practice as a long retreat and had a wonderful strengthening experience. We all did. Everyone is different and there are many different types of Mahakala too, so personal experience may differ greatly. Everyone in my retreat had positive experience.

      What if I just listen to the mantra?
      I got a video with many mantras included one of Mahakala and kept listening to it and feeling so drawn to it.
      I have started doing research about that and the person owning the channel through which I got the video on my request sent me the words of the mantra.
      But I am not reciting it, I couldn't do it even if I wanted to, cause it's just too difficult.
      I just can't stop listening to it because it's just so beautiful and powerful and rinvigorating..
      But strange things are happening... But I am feeling fine... I am just wondering.. : listening a mantra is not like reciting it (with no initiation), right?
      So I guess I am not doing anything "wrong". At the same time though I feel it to be extremely powerful.
      What do you think?
      Hope to be clear, English is not my mother language and thanks for your answer if you will.
      ❤☮️🤲

    Some people are mongers of death and destruction and are fascinated by it. If you meet such people, such women, Run! Death and destruction are not the purpose of doing Mahakala practice. It is protection. What you should want is Vipassana and Zen, with insight into your own mind and developing the spaciousness to work with it and train it into positive and creative paths. That is what is important. Not fascination with death, but determination to support life in fullness and profound insight.

    • @ShunyaYoga
      @ShunyaYoga  Год назад +2

      Neither, it would be more difficult for me to share certain ideas if I was confined to the role of being a Lama or a monk. Once a teaching becomes institutionalized through a religion, one usually is forced to share only those ideas which are in alignment with tradition and scripture. Sometimes this is ok, but at other times it can help reinforce certain unquestioned narratives and belief systems that are a support for the ego. So it is not only that I am not a monk or a lama, considering the things I have come to realize and what I see as valuable sharing, I wouldn’t want to be and have no interest being in such a situation🙏🏻~ Amir

    This man has no lineage, no connection to the living traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, no teacher would endorse him as a student. He is self-proclaimed, self-minted. For those who are actually interested in Mahakala, or any of the teachings of Vajrayana Buddhism--seek it elsewhere.

    • @ShunyaYoga
      @ShunyaYoga  Год назад +2

      These are not legitimate criticisms as far as I’m concerned. First, I don’t claim to teach Vajrayana Buddhism. Secondly, I wouldn’t want to be identified as being a Buddhist either. Buddhism itself, as much as it has gems of wisdom and penetrating vision in certain areas - if one considers most sects, one can find various superstitions and unfounded claims. Another point is that it is a kind of egotism to be clinging to the idea of oneself as a Buddhist, just as the same would be true of one were identified as a Christian, Hindu, Jew, Muslim, even an atheist.
      As far as Mahakala is concerned, I can speak about the concept as an observer without any allegiance to any tradition. One doesn’t need to be initiated into Buddhism to have knowledge and insight into the matter.
      About being self proclaimed, I have received initiations in more than one tradition in fact, both concerning Eastern and Western traditions. Still, I am not identified with either, but I do teach my own approach to yoga. Also, initiation is overrated. There are tons of “initiated” teachers who are deeply asleep to themselves, suffering from all kinds of blind spots, and with serious spiritual by passing at work. The core of “initiation” isn’t even a formal event, it is an inner awakening of sorts which may or may not coincidence with an initiation ritual, and I’ve been through many.
      Rather than judging based on superficial arguments and appeals to religious authority, it is more sensible to criticize the actual content, which stands alone in its own space. Insight isn’t fundamentally Buddhist, one would hope. So what are your objections about the content shared in the video?

      @@ShunyaYoga Very few people are going to look at the fine print you just typed. Instead, most lay people globally are going to see the bigger gestures: a maroon shawl and one of the most prominent deities of Tibetan Buddhism. The Sanskrit name of your channel. These are not authentic Buddhist teachings. This has nothing to do with actual dharma.

    • @ShunyaYoga
      @ShunyaYoga  Год назад +1

      Once again, as I’ve responded to your previous message, what are your criticisms about the content? Simply saying it’s not authentic Buddhist teaching isn’t enough. Also, “Mahakala” isn’t something exclusively Buddhist, as it is an inner and outer principle that is far more existential. So it exists as an archetypal idea in both Hindu and Buddhist tradition.
      As for “actual dharma”, it all depends on what you mean by “dharma”. Various traditions can mean different things by that word, and at times with ideas mutually incompatible with each other. The Buddhist idea of Anatman (no-self) is incompatible with the Hindu Atman (Self), as vegetarianism and non vegetarianism are incompatible.
      Or perhaps you mean the Jain dharma? Obviously “dharma” means different things to different traditions.
      If one claims that “dharma” is the distinct property of any one religion or tradition, there should be an immediate red flag. Any truth which is worth uncovering is universal, and would be therefore applicable even to a highly intelligent sentient being on a distant planet who has never even heard of “Buddhism”.
      Also what is “authentic Buddhist teaching”? Even Buddhist traditions have different ideas and opinions about what is the “authentic Buddhism”, even if they hold a common core such as the Noble Truths and Noble Eightfold Path. Usually, “Buddhism” is much more than this. So which “Buddhism” is the “authentic Buddhist teaching”? Vajrayana, which implemented methods and spoke of ideas which are foreign to early Buddhism? It is unlikely Gautama Buddha taught anything resembling invocation of deities. Is Vajrayana Buddhism not “authentic Buddhist teaching”?
      I don’t see much depth in your comment or criticism.

      @@ShunyaYoga I mean that the Opinions you're offering in the video is making broad gestures toward a deity that is practiced in a secret, initiation-only context in Tibetan Buddhism. Teaching anything about Mahakala requires certain credentials you don't have, and certain contexts that this youtube video doesn't create. Mahakala would normally only be taught about in a living tradition of Buddhism from Tibet. Mahakala is a Tantric deity, and thus only appropriately understood and spoken about within a Guru/Student relationship. Certainly there is also a "Hindu" Mahakala but regardless of religious labels, this is a Tantric deity of a mystical tradition that you don't apparently belong to or have an endorsement to be speaking about.
      If you want to talk about Sutra level Buddhism, please go spread the word. IF you want to talk about this from an ACADEMIC context, that's also totally fine! Get a fucking book though, or some source materials, quote some Actual Gurus for Chrissakes. Like so many new age gurus, you just bloviate from your own personal opinions without even bothering to give yourself the superficial veneer of authority that quoting a master would give you.
      IF you want to talk about Wrathful protector deities from an existential and spiritual guidance perspective, you need certain credentials and to create a certain context of discussion that ensures those teachings aren't misunderstood, aren't misrepresented, and aren't just a way of enriching yourself.
