Meru is best climbing movie I've seen. It is real, down to earth, at the same time done as sad and beautiful story. It shows the best qualities of climbers but in very slow, not "heroic" way. Highly recommend. Also filming is great.
I really wonder about the people who, not only climb, but pack equipment and film these climbing documentaries. Fascinating , courageous and, on some level, unstable to take the risks of grave injury or death while watching it through a lens.
The amount of respect and admiration and just unbelievable awe I have for climbers like this is indescribable. I truly don't think that they even know how hypnotic and fascinating it is to watch their stories for people, like myself, who have never even attempted anything even remotely close to climbing a mountain. I watch documentaries like this and keep repeating in my head over and over "I can't believe this", "I can't believe what they endure to reach the top of a mountain and what fears they deal with and have to overcome" It is nothing short of amazing to me. In fact, amazing doesn't even begin to paint the picture of what they are doing.
When I watched this documentary I suddenly saw the resemblance with my life at this moment. Looking up a high mountain and not knowing where to start... Now I realise that you need the right gear, right people, make a plan and stop and go back if it is impossible to go further etc. THANKS A LOT for doing this and making this film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol
I think I watched Meru at least 10 times. It is so touching
This was an amazing documentary. Highly recommend!
Best doc ever!!! CONGRATULATIONS ON REACHING IT!!
I jogged up Meru once in 2 hours... it was a nice warmup for chest day
bruh
Then you woke up in a weed store realizing it was all just a dream with overdose...
Yeah in your dreams 😂😂😂
Wow this is so fascinating! Really impressed by these guys. Balls of steel.
I highly recommend watching this documentary it’s usually on Amazon prime for free. It is amazing.
Near or on Mount Miru is where home of Indra dev according to legends, If you don't know Indra dev is what got translated as Thor, Zeus or Jupiter etc.
I find it interesting we never hear much about the trek back down.

That’s because you don’t come down. You live on the summit. The idea of people coming back down from mountains is just a myth the governments of the world made to make the media believe that mountain climbing was okay. It’s a method of contributing to the decrease in the world’s population.
@@itsukavonhyakuya6145 stay woke

When they got to the top, they all jumped off.
I've heard that it is harder to go down. I mean, that is scary.
This is incredible climbing😮😮😮
I climbed his year September and I was imagining climbing on rock like this guys...just amazing 👌❤
Love from India 🇮🇳 You guys are Inspiring.
Yes ! Awesome climbers. Love from the USA !
I watched this the other day and I loved it
best documentary ever...
You obviously did not see Touching The Void.
which is obviously not a documentary but a movie based on a true story
It's good, but not nearly the best ever. The doc about Paul Newman that came out a couple years ago was way better, for example.
k2 is a pretty good movie too.
The killer summit.
This short is just segments of the full Meru documentary as seen on Netflix rebranded as the time’s work
It's like a trailer for the actual doc. I don't mind (go watch it) :)
The BALLS on them smh I could NOT imagine!! WELL DONE! Glad you're still here! About to watch MERU, the movie. Let's see how it is! EDIT: Was amazing!! Intense!! I wouldn't even be able to sleep in the tent on the side of the cliff W T F!!
Jon krakauer's commentary was underrated in my opinion, this film wouldn't be where it is today if it wasn't for his modest story telling segments..
i think he's bullshitting about many things
@@Snork086 like what? in this documentary?
I saw mount meru when i visited the gangotri glacier in uttarakhand india
this movie was amazing!! id seen the preview in theaters, saved it on imdb, forgotten about it and then finally watched it. it got me hooked on watching docs and reading books about mountain climbing :D
I've been very interested in alpine climbing in the Himalayas since I was a teenager. I'm addicted to all media that is relative.
Shout out to Valery Babanov, he climbed Meru Central like 14 years ago, SOLO, becoming the first man who's been on that peak... anyone sponsored filming his assent?
Yeah, apparently there is a route where they can now take tourists up there.
GNSIS the route these guys took, the Sharks Fin, is much harder though. Plus, they filmed themselves lol.
At this moment I’m watching the Documentary.
Conrad has yo waittt but he deffinetely did it!!!Congratuliations....
Is it better to climb it winter time or summer time??
I always wonder how they plan, how much planning, how they figure out how much food/what type to gear to bring. How do they how much to have? Yea, like the one guy said what do you do if you drop your food and all your extra supplies? I guess you're just dying.
their tent is in a small opening on a cliff face....these guys hardcore!!!
Respect guys. Maximum respect!
That skeleton gloves just got me ! Respect !
So did they suceed on the next attempt?
Loved MERU!! Makes Everest look like a kiddy ride at the local county fair!
MERU is for REAL CLIMBERS.
Not a tourist destination like Everest has unfortunately become :-(
Meru is difficult to climb but everest is easy but has less oxygen , less everything ! which makes it harder. Don't become a fan just like that ! The whole himalayas is the Tourist destination ! there are 100's of unclimbed peaks there , MERU might be just one of them !
@Glenn Johnson XDDDD
@@charankumarinsomniac nope, that girl is righttt! Even jimmy chin himself said in an interview is that climbing everest is more close to hiking everest. Any climber with no experience can easily climb it plus you have the sherpas carrying your load. Meru is the real game.
K2 is way way tougher than Everest and also has the altitude issues
charan check out K2: Siren of the Himslayas. K2 has a five times higher death rate than Everest, makes Everest look like child’s play
I’m confused how the ropes get there
1st pulls and secure the anchors , others follow
how come these himalayan big walls are so overlooked?
I confused I thought Mt Kailish was known as Mt Meru and was off limits
Mount Meru is also scared like Kailash.
Both mountains are quiet different. It’s a misconception that both are the same.
kailash can be seen from Uttarakhand. This is different.
that tops the insanity list in my world, i get cold shoveling snow....lol!
It looks absolutely impossible for any creature cling to life and climb on this mountain
You always ask!
Why do you climb?
Why do you risk your life, for no reward?
WHY??????
so i can poop at the top
How do you poop on the side of a mountain....i mean i can visualize but
most of the time they are in so much stress they don't poop well or often. Mountain climbing is not good for smooth flow
@@jhow4748 got it. Figured as much. 👍
By pushing it out...
best one
Biggest badasses on planet earth
one bird can do this is no time at all
I think this is the mountain Pandavas climbed at their last stage. One among the 6 only made it.
1:42 "a challenge for which the outcome is guaranteed isn't really a challenge" to me, that mindset explains high risk sport, and the athletes who participate in them....
Gotta be crazy
I watched the movie of this climb
wasn't this the first accent?
a first *ascent* is the first successful reaching of the top. You or your phone wrote "accent" which is a term used mainly for linguistics
This was their failed attempt, but they went back a year or two later, and successfully made the first Accent via the Shark fin Route, the mountain has been climbed by many people, but no ones every successful done that route, though many have tried before them.
Why???????
Is Mt Meru the Mt Kailas...?
Yes
No Mt kailash is in Tibet, whereas Mt Meru is in Uttrakhand
@@Delulusolulu1234 lol it's in china
@@brucegaming1007 lol usa is son of india
Definitely should’ve brought some heroine to warm up.
This ain't Mt Maru
Is this the same Meru that is sacred to Hindus and Buddhists?
Ueli Steck used to do The Shark's Fin for his morning training run …… back in time for lunch.
You are joking right? The Eiger is nothing compared to this. Look at the altitude difference.
This is not to discredit Ueli. He is a freakin legend.
3Vimages you are underestimating this montain. Ueli surely was on the league to try it, but you underestimate this mountain. If it was that easy, this doc would not be the first ascent, and after the fame that came with the doc, other people would have done it.
Felipe Ribeiro No I'm not underestimating this mountain at all ..... although I was joking and of course Ueli couldn't do that in time for lunch but if anyone could solo the Shark's Fin it would have been Ueli. What he did on Annapurna alone is just mind blowing.
@@3vimages471 He never reached the summit of Annapurna. There isn't any evidence to support his claim.
Haha walk or go in ropeway or train to the only 20km long biggest glacier of main Europe. To reach eiger base then climb it like a treck
I hope you guys get paid for that
They made a documentary film which has gotten great reviews. Check out 'Meru' if you want to see the full expedition where they go back and reach the summit. Incredible story
Sko Bird they are also sponsored by several outdoor gear and clothing companies.
KK does not get it at all.
I always wonder why people risk and waste their time, enegry climbing those rocks with snow in it.There is nothing out there at top.😅wasted
I´ll never understand that need for jeopardizing your life over and over, just for the thrill of it
The biggest rewards always require the biggest risks. Like you say, you'll never understand.
@@jjking9513 Reward: making it to the summit. Risk: widow and two orphans. No, I really don´t get it, I still think it´s stupid
@@jjking9513 WRONG. The biggest rewards in life come from the simplest things... family, friends, health and being a productive member of society. The rewards that come from climbing a mountain are fleeting at best, and certainly not worth surrendering your life. But you'll probably never understand.
@@news4usunshine I take it you've climbed a mountain then to know what it feels like? If you haven't you dont get a seat at the table of debating the risk vs reward
If you feel a certain "pull" towards something, you just HAVE to do it. Be it climbing, riding a motorcycle, team sports, painting, running, gardening, music... whatever!
Some are more dangerous than others...

Mount Meru is religiously connected with indians
👍
Just climb it and stop waffling.
super lame that they didnt give a reason
if one person died the other 2 100% will ate him and continue up to the top !

Wait till summer when the snow has melted ....

That’s not how mountains with such high elevation work. :/
I don't get the point. Why risk your life to climb a stupid mountain... If there was money at the top or gold than fine.
Dave M Self Actualization! If your a climber you know there is something addictive about suffering in the mountains to achieve a goal.
Since they're all professional climbers, in a way there IS money at the top...
You'll never come close to how they feel for mountains!!
Then you haven't understood the first thing about living. Hope it gets better for you soon.
Jimmy Chin is worth over 50 million dollars
What is the point of climbing if you are using all these tools
Try it
you don't need to be on Mount Meru holding a rope to be "in control of your destiny", hahaha, so stupid
