You don't know how much this saved me. I'm a captain on a private yacht and the water maker has these type of fittings and it wasn't working properly. Someone had closed the valve that sends fresh water to the tank. So the pressure made one of the hoses come out. Well. Little did I know that there was an o-ring that goes in there and that was nowhere to be found so I had spare o-rings and was on my way, making water and making the bus happy. Thank you.
When I first bought the "push fitting 1/4 inch" there was a leak, but once I watch your video, I removed the hose from the leaking end and recut it straight and insert the hose back in and the leak was gone. Best expert advice.🤟🤟
My friend, you are a God-send. Single mama here. Tried a diy-er at 10 pm. Looked easy. Should have been easy. Leaked everywhere. This video saved my kitchen floor. Thank you sooooooo much! 😊
Just excellent! Thanks for the clear and informative video. Fixed my leaky connection in a heartbeat. The O-ring wasn't seated improperly and deformed. I used the pointed end of a chopstick to gently bring it back to an O shape. The tube then went right in - problem solved. Cooling mist system up and running just in time for the heat this weekend - thanks again!
I can't tell you how much I appreciate this video! I installed an ion-exchange water filter (BWT) into my fridge supply, complete with a water volume meter and bleed shut-offs, and I swear that every single connection either leaked or sprayed water when I pressurized it. I was pretty panic stricken as I had snipped the fridge line so I was committed now. Anyways, it was just me not knowing to push the hoses right through the O-rings. Phew!! You saved the day. 🙂
Lol i'm glad i'm not alone! installed the BWT. leaks everywhere. self-loathing kicking in hard. wife, unimpressed, ready to call a plumber. but i believe i have arrived in the promised land, and this video got me over the threshold.
Best, most straight forward video I’ve seen yet on this. Thank you! I believe I have a bad o-ring on my older RO system. This video might even better if it offered tips on where to find it’s replacement.
I came across this video and the representative that explain the quick connect tubing fitting, is so on point, that I appreciate all the information and advice he gave on this video. A++ for this videos and it is highly recommend it.
Great video, very educative and professionnal. And the honesty of the last segment reflects on Fresh Water Systems in my opinion - it would have been much easier to say other manufacturers are garbage!
My water service man came every year some 12 times. Sometimes he had to stay longer to change leaky fittings. He quit the business four years ago and now I have to service the R/O kitchen sink unit. Today was SANI day with 2 new filters. All went well but now two connections leak just like in years past. I noticed today there are locking rings that go with these fittings but he never used them. I'll try these half dozen tips tomorrow however the fittings are really old. Thanks for the good video.
Excellent video, explanations, and information! I looked ALL OVER the manufacturers site, and could not find any basic information on proper installation methods and practices. I identified 2 major failings that are likely causing my leaks. (My system was professionally installed and still corners were cut . . . .. wow.) Thanks a LOT!
Excellent information. I had a leak, removed the tubing as instructed here and cut the end down and reinstalled and no more leaks. I would've never figured out how to remove the tubing without this video. Thanks!
I found this video useful since I was working on leaking fittings on a kenmore refrigerator water inlet valve. Turned out the internal o-rings were deformed from the strain of the lines being bent at 90 degrees. I replaced the o-rings and added two 90 degree elbows and good to go with no leaks, the manufacturer should have manufactured it the elbows in place to reduce the strain on the coneectors. Thank you for the informative video.
Hi John, thank you so much for the professional presentation you made in this video! My husband has been under the sink troubleshooting the leak and getting stressed out, your instructions provided the perfect resolution to the problem! I'm a technical writer of end-user product documentation and video scripts and am very impressed with your ability to present solutions for things that can cause customers such frustration. Keep up the great work!
Can the collar or o-ring be changed? I have a connection leaking from a filter housing. It’s either replace the collar/o-ring or the entire $60 housing
This was quite helpful. I think I know why the fittings I just use are leaking something fierce ... only pushed to first resistance, so probably did not push tubing in far enough. Thank you!
Thanks very much for your clear presentation! I do have this one question though: I have a water filter system that is around 7 years old. I replaced an air gap faucet and, following your suggestions, I made sure all the tubing cuts were, square, the tubing round ( not mis-shapen) and nick free, and the tubes are pushed in as far as they go. 2 connections have very slow leaks, even with new, carefully cut and inserted tubing. Both leaks are with old, original fittings. All the new fittings are fine. Is it possible that with age, the O rings start to fail and the fittings need to be replaced?
Thank you so much for such an insightful video! I am an engineering student and we are building an RCS system for CubeSats and we are using these connections with compressed air. You saved us a lot of troubleshooting and time.
OMG - 1/4" fittings leaking. Switched everything over to 3/8" - still leaking. Solution found in this video. Skip to 3:03.... watch neat trick about marking the pipe. No more leaks!
I've read some comments in many places that these fittings should not be used inside a finished wall. I know they can leak, but so can standard fittings. I don't know why there's any more concern for these than any other fitting.
I will move my old Sears 42-38460 undersink water filter so as to not bend the tubing at top - one question you did not answer, can you replace the 0-rings on the shark bite fittings?
Listen up to those that did all the steps in this video and it still leaks. Simply wrap a few layers of that thin plumbers tape around the end of each hose (or the leaking side). Voila, problem solved. If it still leaks wrap a few more layers until it fits water tight with the rubber gasket.
1/4” fittings always seem to leak. They are connected correctly but I sometimes need to replace them numerous times until I get one that doesn’t leak. It’s a hit and miss with these types of connectors.
Purchased a faucet with a quick connect tube already assembled and it doesn’t fit the 8” spread, even though the instructions say it should. The tubes have a coil inside, and clamps on the ends. No idea how to cut them down to make them shorter. I may need to just purchase my own replacement tubing. Hopefully it’s a simple as you make it appear!
Also helps if you have fresh, good quality tubing. I recently replaced all of my R/O filter tubing because it had all become so brittle, it just snapped in half like spaghetti. Also, sometimes the fitting collet becomes sort of stiff and is hard to push in for proper tubing release. I had to replace some 15 year old ones that were brittle from many California summers.
Would you say that any type of pex tubing straight from a faucet should be the same size and fit into an under sink water filter push fitting. Scared I might have to cut off the flares end and try. I could try to find the right fitting but I’ve never had any leak problems whatsoever from the previous blue hose the filter came with. The faucet is grey with lettering. Could Kettering itself even cause a leak
I just bought an under counter RO filter and one of the quick connect fittings apparently is defective because it blows the tubing out. It has a nice clean cut on the tubing. Can I replace the collet and o ring?
Hopefully someone will answer after more than four years. Is it okay to use silicone grease on the tubing, then push the tube in? I would think that would create a better seal?
I am looking for an end cap for ro tubing. I want to seal off a drain saddle that was installed as I’m removing my current reverse osmosis system. Where can I buy this?
We have a Culligan Water filter that has a quick connect on the top of the unit. Unfortunately, it broke and we are curious if we can replace the quick connect in the lid where the water flows into the unit. The light grey collar came out with the tube. Suggestions? Thank you!
We have multiple John Guest Quick-Connect fittings connected in the configuration of our In-Sink-Erator Hot Water Dispenser. While the Quick-Connect fittings, we discovered it's the O-Rings within that cause leaks. Can you please recommend where to buy food safe (NSF Certified) O-Rings that are within the Quick-Connect fittings?
I hear vaseline breaks down the rubber and makes it swell, which is why it is no longer recommended for the large o-rings on the filters housing - they now recommend a food-grade silicone lubricant -
Did you ever had the turn valve leak on you at the blue valve and not the connection. Is there any way to tighten it or fix it without replacing them. They always seem to leak after awhile.
Old plumber here, plastic valves are crap. If there is any way to integrate a brass ball valve, go that way. they come pretty small, but all this stuff is coming from china and the truth is, its all crap any more.. best of luck.
My leak was caused from moving the system around quite a few times while I'm in the process of installing a new sub-floor. When I'm ready to re-install it I'll get all the parts I need, in fact have spares should this happen again later. I think I'll put the whole filter system inside of a big 22 gallon plastic tote, and if I go on a vacation I'm going to turn off the water source valve.
Why are there no moving parts on my quick connect? It's white plastic. Does the faucet hose have to perforate a seal inside the quick connect? We're pushing but there's no click.
I had a mixture when i plumbed my bathroom. There was no perceivable click with those. I just had to make sure they are pushed in far enough. Marking as a good tip.
The side load issue is not emphasized enough. If these connections are in a place where they will get bumped or something will push against the pipe, forget about it.
NICE JOB. Old builder, dont like new shit. But after watching, I will pull the trigger on some of this stuff. I fought against pex.. now I love it. Thats what I wanted to use to DIY an RO/DI unit. all pex. But it appears that I will have a tough time finding all the parts/housings that are threaded. Thanks.
I wish I had watched this prior to trying to fixing my refrigerator water dispenser line! I destroyed the connect fitting to get the line out. Luckily a new quick connect was only a few dollars.
“...or the fitting has been installed in a manner that is allowing water to bypass the O-ring.” Ya think? Didn’t put it together properly? 1. Cut pipe 2. Insert into fitting How can you go wrong? For me these have been hit and miss. I won’t install them where a leak will cause major damage. Open basement or concrete floor with drain is okay
Most of the videos I’ve seen you’re too far away from the actual part or cannot see it at all. Needs work on zooming into the part/step you’re explaining.

The tip about pushing it *through* the first o-ring saved me. I had been pushing it up-to the first o-ring. Thanks!
My friend, you are a God-send. Single mama here. Tried a diy-er at 10 pm. Looked easy. Should have been easy. Leaked everywhere. This video saved my kitchen floor. Thank you sooooooo much! 😊
Fixing a water fountain at work and this video is the tutorial I needed. Thanks!

This is the best RUclips video I’ve seen
This is absolute Grade A quality info. I just bought a converted camper that is spraying water out of one of these fittings. Thanks!
Super helpful! One can tell he is an expert, campy explaining what he has probably been ask a thousand times
I came across this video and the representative that explain the quick connect tubing fitting, is so on point, that I appreciate all the information and advice he gave on this video. A++ for this videos and it is highly recommend it.
Sage advice from a man who is clearly passionate about Quick-Connect Fittings.
Great video, very educative and professionnal.
And the honesty of the last segment reflects on Fresh Water Systems in my opinion - it would have been much easier to say other manufacturers are garbage!
I wish I had watched this video earlier - you’re a real life saver
Finally, it found out why it was leaking, thanks to this video! Thx a lot! ❤
Thank you! This saved me as I hadn't pushed all the way through and thought it was enough
Thank you for your advise and video with cross section of the quick connect fitting. It helped me a lot!

Best video on this on youtube!

Really good information. Thank you.
This was an especially helpful video. Excellent explanation on quick-connect plastic tube fittings.
Extremely helpful! Thanks
Thank you for your clear and effective explanation. I really appreciate 👍

Is there a way to replace the rubber seal if it’s ripped?
How do you straighten the nylon tubing
would love to know what the max pressure is they can handle, can't find that info anywhere.
Thank you great information so now I just return it brand new sad because I had leaking hopefully I’ll get it right this time thank you
Hopefully someone will answer after more than four years. Is it okay to use silicone grease on the tubing, then push the tube in? I would think that would create a better seal?
Can you put sealant on the tube? Everything is cut correctly and pushed in all the way. Tried multiple fitting and have cut multiple times.
I am looking for an end cap for ro tubing. I want to seal off a drain saddle that was installed as I’m removing my current reverse osmosis system.

They are custom made for their fittings. You can not use standard sized o-rings as a replacement. You need to replace the entire $1.45 fitting lol
It’s a #9 o-ring. Pretty standard
@Gary...NOT Certified NSF Food Safe . So, no.
@@queenegreene3926 I realized that sometime after the post, sorry ’bout that.
Would a dab of vaseline on the tube ends help seal and condition the o ring?
I hear vaseline breaks down the rubber and makes it swell, which is why it is no longer recommended for the large o-rings on the filters housing - they now recommend a food-grade silicone lubricant -
Love it. Very detailed, thank you.
I had a leak with my aqualock. When I took the tube out, the o ring popped out too. So how do I fix?
great, but I wonder if anybody can help me with leaking unthreaded irrigation elbows.
It helps to know what you’re doing Correctly in the first place. Something my niece could learn from
Did you ever had the turn valve leak on you at the blue valve and not the connection. Is there any way to tighten it or fix it without replacing them. They always seem to leak after awhile.

thanks for it...
More close ups! We dont need to see your face, the table, the background etc. We need to see the parts closer up!!!
Why the MUSIC 🎶 ???
doesn't start to discuss the title until 2:45
Very simple I agree most human errors caused
Do they sell oring kit for different size couplers
“...or the fitting has been installed in a manner that is allowing water to bypass the O-ring.”

So you are just going to let that sharpie die a dry death on that desk huh?
I just came to find out how to fix a leaking fitting and you didn't go through how to replace the o-ring to fix the fitting. Lame video.
I'll never understand why music or noise gets played over someone talking.
Get to the f point
@M hah! That’s funny. No, I was having a bad day and had a leaking airline in my truck after having a long day at the time of watching this video
So basically, your blaming the customer . I'm pretty sure some come from the factory defective. Your machines ,and workers aren't perfect
I don't think his company makes the sharkbites, they use them in their service -
Junk. A sorry design.
