Cable arresting systems primarily use steel arresting cables that go across the landing area to help slow down aircraft. As the planes land, the tail hook catches on the arresting cable slowing the plane down in as little as two seconds.

Getting caught in the spaghetti is a violent action.
Getting to the spaghetti is long pull to port and a few seconds of intensity that cannot be matched anywhere else in your life.

Is that not to cheat? Having a cable to stop You, I think the Russians do it without catapult and cable, JAS39 Gripen do it too, start and land on short highway runways without cable and not even a drag parachute. But that plane is more nimble against the mighty F14, in my Youth it was a plane I admired.

Russian aircraft carriers (and Chinese, and Indian, navies) operate conventional aircraft from STOBAR aircraft carriers (Short Take-Off But Arrested Landing). Instead of a catapult, they use a ski-jump to assist aircraft in taking off

@@Wings_Museum Thanks för the info! But hard for the pilot to be "arrested" every time they lands, are they released for good behavior or on bail, but a pilot only bail OUT of an aircraft? But today even there they are flung out by a smaller catapult. In Swedish an ejection seat is called katapultstol (catapult chair). Thanks for the channel Happy Xmas and a Happy New Year!
