  • The ability to paint fast and direct is one of the many joys of watercolour. It is said that watercolour is an unforgiving medium and mistakes are difficult to fix. I disagree. In this tutorial, I show you how to paint a quick watercolor bird, a Scarlet Ibis, for a daily art challenge such as Inktober.

    The materials I use in this demo are as follows:
    Paper: A4, ArtEssentials artist's watercolour paper
    Paints: Assorted artist grade watercolours from White Nights, Mijello, Sennelier etc. Watercolour pencils.
    Brushes: size 2 mop, size 12, 6, 3, 0 round.

    I’m glad you stuck with this one, it really turned out by the end. Those shades of red just grab your attention.

    Do you like doing a single watercolour painting in parts and sections...everyday different days...then complete it? If not why not in bits and pieces

      Depends on the size. On average, I prefer to finish a piece in 2-3 sittings over a single evening. For me, too many small sections reduces the flow of a painting.
