My name is Marcelo'm the world's southernmost country, where, after the Andes is only a long narrow strip of land. No matter how powerful creation of this wonderful artist overcame all obstacles and made this up here. In Chile for 24 years now, the incredible music of Joni Mitchell, makes me fly to distant landscapes of Canada, or walk down the streets of his adopted California. Joni, represents for me a priceless gift that life has given me.
We look like our mothers did now when we were those kids age - what a fantastic line
❤❤
Once in a while a person is born with a genius that no one else could acheive, Joni is one such person!
Beautifully played and written.
100% correct.
"I bore her but I could not raise her, nothin lasts for long, nothin lasts for long, nothin lasts for long". Your words and my memories are running down my face. Love you Joni xo
❤❤❤
Morning coffee, in bed, window open and the sun is shining outside. Listening to this song on vinyl. Bliss.
this isn't just a song, it's a poem
This woman is beautiful on the inside and the outside. Thanks Canada, we love Joni Mitchell!! 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 👌.
Hi gorgeous how are you??
Has there ever been a more perfect evocation of the passage of time and lost youth? Has me in tears every time.
❤❤
Being a fan still means a lot to me since around 1972.
Got to see her in 1980... at The Santa Barbara County Bowl....Such a Gift ..Joni is to Our Troubled World...Thank You for All Your Beautiful Lyrics..We Love You Forever!!
Joni takes my breath away still. After 40 years...
So beautiful...this song evokes so many memories. This song's lyrics hit home for this old man as I grow older, and watch my children start families of their own. Thank you Joni for a lifetime of treasured music.
Caught in the middle
Carol, we're middle class
We're middle aged
We were wild in the old days
Birth of rock 'n roll days
Now your kids are coming up straight
And my child's a stranger
I bore her
But, I could not raise her
Nothing lasts for long
Nothing lasts for long
Nothing lasts for long
Down at the Chinese Cafe
We'd be dreaming on our dimes
We'd be playing
"Oh my love, my darling"
One more time
Uranium money
Is booming in the old home town now
It's putting up sleek concrete
Tearing the old landmarks down now
Paving over brave little parks
Ripping off Indian land again
How long, how long
Short sighted business men
Ah, nothing lasts for long
Nothing lasts for long
Nothing lasts for long
Down at the Chinese Cafe
We'd be dreaming on our dimes
We'd be playing
"You give your love, so sweetly"
One more time
Christmas is sparkling
Out on Carol's lawn
This girl of my childhood games
With kids nearly grown and gone
Grown so fast
Like the turn of a page
We look like our mothers did now
When we were those kids' age
Nothing lasts for long
Nothing lasts for long
Nothing lasts for long
Down at the Chinese Cafe
We'd be dreaming on our dimes
We'd be playing
"Oh my love, my darling
I've hungered for your touch
A long lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me."
(Time goes, where does the time go
I wonder where the time goes)
❤❤❤
She is my absolute lifelong favorite artist of all time! I have never seen her perform in person but would so love to before my time is up. True artist as ever there was and I love that she continues and was never about the fame and money.
I got the pleasure to see Joni sing at the Toronto Folk Festival years ago with James Taylor and at another concert too. She is amazing. Listened to her records right through my teen years. The very best of her generation, a feminist a brilliant original genius singer musician and composer. Proud of her being a Canadian too. wishing her the best recovery from her stroke.. She has been smoking since she was 8 years old. We owe her so much. WHo compares to her these days?
Aww right ..deserves credit..much credit..Happy Birthday JONI !!!
She is the best of ANY generation...ANY generation.
No one male or female is in her universe .
A female DaVinci that we are so lucky to have among us.
A consumate musician, painter, vocalist and songwriter extraordinaire.
What a gorgeous body of work she has created.@@taragreenetarotastrologyre4945
J Decker All that and physically beautiful too. Extraordinary woman.
I feel the same as the 2 comments above me, except that I DID see her live in Houston once.
SHE WILL NEVER BE DUPLICATED..THE BLUEPRINT IT'S ROCKIN AN ROLLING ON THE BEAUTIFUL WILD WINDS OF THE SASKATOON PLAIN....
The intro to the 1982 album. An intelligent intuitive mix of 2 songs into one she makes her own. Her genius and originality make her like no other artist. God keep you well Joni.
such a song cannot be sung by anyone else
Actually blends 3 songs together . . . I didn't notice the third one (will you still love me tomorrow - "you give your love so sweetly") at first either . . .
This was a great look for her, she looks just beautiful....love her hair this way.
One of the styles in the early 80s. (which makes sense I guess since this was 82. LOL)
James C agreed love her hair here so stunning..
Remember I bought this album in 1982
Joni Mitchell is Perfection Personified!
I just love Joni. She’s a treasure. My Mom met her once in the 60’s at expo in Japan. Joni was performing I guess and Mom was chaperone for a girls bell ringing group. Mom said that she was very nice.
What a beautiful song! The music, phrasing, lyrics, and Joni's beautiful voice!
Mark, I've seen that interview many times and it makes Joni more down to earth and human to reveal so much about herself! What an absolutely *marvelous* human being she is!
She’s awesome.
Love this song. Used to listen to it all time in 84? Anyway it is as good an relevant as ever....Thanks Joni!
There are no words to truly describe what Joni's music does...you either feel it or you don't.
Just genius. A monumental artist. Such a beautiful song. Only Joni
Absolutely.
Geez, after all those years, of really liking Joni, I discover videos on the tube, and it’s just wow, I am in awe.
Love Joni.😻
❤❤❤
Absolute.
Not a word I use often.
But this song is simply that.
There's an angel among us . . .
Yes! Yes! Yes! We are fortunate enough to live exactly in the Age of Joni. I am honored.
'Nothing lasts for long'...... while that is true of people and their lives, some things do last, like beautiful works of art, and that's what Joni has given us and the world, her music will live on, long after we're all in the past. And I can't thank her enough for that.
truthpig. Yes, yes, yes. She's so amazing. So talented. So beautiful, inside do out.
Let's see.....guitar, piano, dulcimer, that voice....the woman is a genius.
I fell in love with this song when I heard it decades ago. The great Michael Landau on guitar.
how long! how long! Short sighted businessman!
Legendary!
She just totally nails that song above everything else exactly how it’s supposed to be nailed. Perfect!
This song covers me in goosebumps each and every time I hear her sing it. It speaks to us all. I was so lucky to see her sing it live in Sydney 1983. Peace to all. ....."birth of rock n roll days"....I was there.
What a gift this woman has been to the music and songwriting world. Listening to her is my kind of heaven. Peace to all.
Lucky you. I was going to see her that year but she caught a cold and had to cancel her concert in Tempe, AZ at Compton's Terrace. Found out at the gate as the Marque had CANCELED on the sign. Never been more bummed in my life. She never re-scheduled the show.😢☹😢
Kurt Leinenkugel Kurt, that must have been devastating for you. I am so sorry that happened., Enjoy these videos. 😊
Always incredible! Loved how she brought the birth of her child❣️
It is funny to see some of the comments from those that believe that others would even care to read their comments about what they think they know or dislike about a period of Joni Mitchell's music or life. Their opinions have little if no value here but to waste system space in a computer server. Joni Mitchell is so far above that and always has been in everything she does. If you doubt this, see the recent interview with Jian Ghomeshi on CNC Radio Q www.cbc.ca/q/blog/2013/06/11/joni-mitchell-portrait-of-an-artist/
this is indeed genious mark
HERE! HERE!
@@popeye1250 actually I rather enjoy seeing how some other humans respond to very human stuff
again if you are listening joni.. my ecletic path has come full circle.. loved you at 19. and am revisiting you one thank yoy
Saw Joni with Larry in Edinburgh on this tour around 82/3.Sat 10 feet in front of her and was MESMERISED
Oh my beautiful sister...I will miss you ever moment of every day. Dee Dee Latta 4/8/53-8/24/12... :(
Possibly Joni's finest song - I know that will be hotly debated because it's from neither her finest hour or finest album. But hearing this track, late night on a UK radio station, some 20 years ago got me hooked on Ms Mitchell. I went to the local record library the next day and got out Hejira, Court & Spark, Dog Eat Dog and Chalk Mark in a Rain Storm. I stuck them all onto tape and played them non-stop on my Walkman.
Christmas is sparkling out on Carol's lawn

Nothing lasts for long .......
I can't think of any other lyric from any other songwriter that encapsulates so perfectly the melancholy of aging and the bittersweet memories it brings
Pure genius
Joni Mitchell speaks from my heart,
that's the first live rendition of this song I've seen. I love it! I kinda like what's happened to her voice, it's different, more limited so what! She conquered the higher registers, now it's time for something different. Without the husk in her voice, I would have never discovered Joni. It was the Love actually version of both sides now which introduced me to her awesomeness! And how can I forget hejira, my favourite Joni number, even that's far from her earlier angelic voice, but I love it.
@hoof2001 Joni blazed a trail for so many artists; she writes more than songs, her lyrics are magical and poetic. Her songs are a beacon for anyone who has felt the odd one out (man or woman). At such a young age she was able to nail big issues like love, loss, artifice, innocence. Celine didn't even write her big, fat, but at the end of the day, ordinary, commercial hit. I would never put these two in the same league.
Unchained melody one of my favourite songs with Joni's own genius. Awesome. Blessings to you Joni.
I pray Joni can heal from the accident that has caused her to lose her voice. This song is sublime. What I would do to see her live again. Thank you Joni for music that inspires and moves us.
+Maye McDonald I wish she would not smoke
I wish she wouldn't either. But people have confronted her with the idea that her voice has lowered in quality over the years due to her smoking, and she poo-poos it and tells them they don't know what they're talkin about. :\
+marthajf73 😔sadly she still smoke
Can't sleep what better than listening to Joni
I love her music in a way that almost scares me in its' intensity. She is otherworldly.
Hi gorgeous how are you doing??
Wish I had met you in my younger days....... Think I shall LOVE YOU FOREVER........🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
every song......a story........magical.
Joni Mitchell. One of my favourite singers out there. I love this song.
Can a singer sing their song even better than the original? Based on this video absolutely! And look stunning along with it!
This song means more to me now than ever, love it.
so agree with you, and Night Ride Home is one ofr my fav albums of all time....
I listen to her every day :)
She is so heart stopping I can't stop watching her ❤️
Genius, soulful. Eyes that see the world through a travelers eyes. THANK YOU for putting this out so we could see this exceptional songwriter.
Such superb all round musicianship.......
brilliant artist. beautifully executed!!!❤
wow, i've never heard this song, and it's simply fantastic
I think this album came out around 1984. Exceptional song, beautifully written. Another example of how much commercial music has deteriorated over the past few decades...
‘82 I think
What a gift to mankind......
Listening to this now, it strikes me that Larry Klein seems to be trying to replicate Jaco Pastorius's bass-playing style here. I'm trying to imagine how his playing on this track would have made it sound like something that would have fit nicely on Hejira (if pared down a bit). It would have made a perfect companion to "Song for Sharon".
a simply magical performance.
love here with this song. her voice has changed a lot since she was a young girl. and amzing that she sang with even 70 years of age. and that with a very firm and clear voice. respect
God Almighty. I love her so damn much.
Jeff Blythe Damn right
Jeff Blythe - me too, oh my god - me too
Jeff Blythe Sorry chaps but I have it on good fantasy-authority that I'm her imaginary boyfriend so me and Joni's long-term notional relationship still stands. And I should say we're still very happy together.
Love you Joni.

Beautiful music and a great atmosphere to the video also.
my old times teen life wont ever forget you Joni Mitchell
Thank you Joni for making this and a lot more ! Sincerely
This album (Wild Things run fast) is perfect....
Uber cool Joni love you
Such a wonderful Ballad
could'nt have put it any better myself holymakinaw . one of the most important artist of any generation that will be mentioned with the greats from way back and into the future .
You know you've grown old when the singers and musicians you grew up with are now called oldies and the obituaries start. Too bad they can't be immortal like their music is.
She is amazing singer ..love all her songs..
It's more than 40 years now.
I saw you once in Brisbane.
Thanks for your gift and your generosity and the gift of sharing, for your wisdom and guidance and the beauty of your music.
Phillip
Beautiful.
She's a gift for all of us, thank you and bless you Joni!!!🙏👌💃❣️
so much love to her music and liric
My muse for almost fifty years. She is the greatest singer of my lifetime.
love, love, love this song. Everthing about it!
nobody can touch this artist.......nobody...
her lyrics and phrasing are that good that even a blind person listening to her would see colourful landscapes appear in his head....nuff said.
just love this girl .... gee what happen to artist like this
The Man and his plan. Strictly manufactured 'stars'. Reality tv and tv show manufactured dreck.
Distract you with computerized 'smart' toys. Detachment from nature, community, and beauty, such as soulful this. No more albums, all singles now, Itunes or whatever, and they opened the door wide for stealing.
We were all blessed.
PEACE
AMEN TO THAT WHAT YOU JUST SAID
Joni te amo!
Oh god, this is such a wonderful performance.
A righteous song which the brothers would approve....
I'm sure they do. They're both alive still, as far as I'm aware. :)
tall32guy -hate to tell you but Bobby Hatfield is gone.
Perfect.
Oh Joni. 😢
Made Larry cry....
jeff berlin + joni mitchell is one of the best tings this world had seen.
it s the way it goes - can t help loving her - just love her voice - she makes me feel human - oh bloody hell joni
+Nun Ya we ARE blessed, great art never dies
Joni looking beautiful to March her music
This is a beautiful version. The one on the release Wild Things Run Fast varies a bit. This one is so open. There is an emotional quality here that is so strong.
joni, joni...i love you...
love it. beautiful voice singing beautiful words
I agree...and she smokes too and makes no bones about it. I've seen her live three times and one time she was sick but still played her ass off and sang as well as could be expected. She's phenomonal.
Magnifique ! Merci de tout mon coeur ! Joni Mitchell est Unique.
Such a treasure..... love her through and through.
Thank you for sharing
This song is beautiful it totally touches my heart. She is such an inspiration to me.
Beautiful and touching!
This song is pure genius...it makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck!
