    The 1966 and 1967 440 engines were what they called, 'factory hand balanced." They wanted them super smooth, like Cadillac and Lincoln engines. They stopped doing that for the 1968 models.

    • @MangieRaccoonsGarage
      @MangieRaccoonsGarage  3 года назад +3

      That’s really awesome! I never knew they did that! I’m glad I got one of the last hand balanced engines

    Unfortunately, the sound that starter makes tells me that is not the original Chrysler starter in that car, which takes half the fun out of listening to it start.

    • @MangieRaccoonsGarage
      @MangieRaccoonsGarage  2 года назад +5

      That starter actually went out since this video. Took a lot of work tracking down to get an original like big beefy starter that didn’t have the different gearing in it. It’s a huge size difference.

    my grandfather’s 66 New Yorker had the same steering wheel and factory Airtemp air conditioning but no rear defog or heater - didn’t realize the rear heater was available on New Yorker/Newport - thought this was an Imperial only option

  • @Skunked68
    @Skunked68 2 года назад +2

    Wow. What a loaded car. I also was looking for the classic step down starter sound. Music to my ears, Wee, we, we, WEE, we we. A city block away one knew when a Mopar was starting. They are in my blood yet, had two Plymouth top line VIPs, only like 6000 made per year, both with 383 four barrels. 3:23 quicker rear ends, second gear scratch from huge sleds at 35/40 mph. Folks had 71 New Yorker, last high compression year, correct? What a cruiser!! This one has so many options I can believe a real TNT higher power option. What was that $50 for 15 or 20 more hp?? Often with high rise exhaust manifolds, quicker rear ends, dual exhaust and dual snorkel air cleaner. 12 mpgs kind of hard anymore. But a collector car, just get 600 to 900 miles per year to keep them working well. I’d love a 65/66 Imperial in shiny black with all that chrome!! Real wood trim. That was pinnacle of the Imperial line. A more separate line until 67. Keep on truckin.

    The capacity of the standard issue ashtray was phenomenal. Looks to be at least two cubic feet of “flavor country” butts resting comfortably in there with plenty of room for more.

    • @MangieRaccoonsGarage
      @MangieRaccoonsGarage  2 года назад +1

    I don’t suppose that is real wood on the dash, is it? That would probably only be for the 1966 Imperial, if at all.

      @MangieRaccoonsGarage  2 года назад +3

      Oh yeah XD!
      And I’m not sure about that but I have wondered that as well. I haven’t taken it apart to verify if it’s wood or not. My guess is that it isn’t. But it’s better fake stuff than what comes in the later years lol

    I've owned a 1966 New Yorker that my Grandfather bought new. Great cars!! I wish I had mine back. I was noticing your gear select shifter. I've never seen one like that on a 66. I think someone has changed it. Look at some other videos and ads for sale and you'll see what I'm talking about. Love your car. I'm looking now for one to buy.

    • @MangieRaccoonsGarage
      @MangieRaccoonsGarage  2 года назад

      Yeah I was wondering that too! I had a 65 exactly like this except for the shifter. It looks like the one out of a 1967 and up. I wasn’t sure if this was because maybe it was a late run 66 or had been changed.

    • @MangieRaccoonsGarage

      Oh nice! I had that in my other new Yorker. As for the cold light, maybe just be a burned out bulb or the coolant sensor. The sensor has 2 plugs on it, one for cold and one for hot. Maybe just a crusty connector.
