  • NATURAL FLY CONTROL FOR YOUR LIVESTOCK!!
    To limit the chemicals we utilise on our livestock, I've sourced natural alternatives that can be successfully mixed together and applied through a spray applicator. I shall be trialling several different mixes in coming weeks for short term temporary relief. Basically buying time until I've completed my free choice cafeteria style mineral feeder build. Thank you for watching.

    Spread chicken feed on cow patties and the chickens will eat the larvae. Works Great!

      @Udderfarm  Год назад +1

      Hi Georgia, I love your train of thought! I could see that working a treat if you only have a few head and doing it as a hobby. Chickens also naturally scratch through the manure after it has had time to dry looking for the larvae and worms as a source of protein. Though clearly not as affective as spreading feed as you mentioned, though when it comes to a 20+ herds size that average 3 pads per day in a cell grazing system it becomes a mission in it self. We are definitely going to utilised a chicken tractor and an army of chickens as a clean up crew once we get our systems up and running. We appreciate you taking time to not only watch, but also sharing your knowledge with us. Have a grand weekend Jason & Nic

    Great video! Hope your cows are still fly free! Ours are loaded and we will be trying this mix tonight. Thanks! Cheers from South Carolina USA

      Hi MB, firstly thanks for choosing to watch one of our videos and secondly for taking the time to message us with your positive feedback it’s greatly appreciated mate. If you’re interested we done a follow up video called ‘Natural Fly Control Update’ if I recall. Being in the USA I’d imagine you’d be nearing peak fly season too considering it’s summer over there. Hope the Spray gives your Livestock short term relief as it did for ours. Ticks were our biggest issue rather than the flies this season. Hope you have a grand day mate.

    Hey Jason, it was good to talk to you the other day. The grass is looking good👍

      Hi Sael, It was a pleasure. Yes the copious amount of rain we've received over the past 3 weeks has really lifted the grass growth! This obviously has allowed me to grazed the cattle sooner than expected. It has also allowed me to lay down a lot more carbon (Grass) onto the ground to ultimately feed the microbes and build back some well needed topsoil!

    Are you putting up any bird houses to attract local fly catching birds? How about running some chickens behind the cows by 3-4 days?

    • @Udderfarm
      @Udderfarm  2 года назад +2

      Did I happen to send you a copy of my business plan by mistake Lee? As you are so on the money, LOL. The bird boxes we have contemplated, though firstly we have decided to try and reduce the fly numbers by incorporating a cafetiere style mineral & supplement feeder boxes onto our properties, then we intend building a chicken tractor to follow up behind our herd for clean up duties on the UDDERFARM down the track. Stay tuned our cafetiere style feeder box build is currently underway and video will be uploaded in a few months. I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to send us your message.

    Is there an update video? Neighbor has 2 cattle pretty close to the fence who love our kitchen veggie scraps. Would be great to feed them and not get bombarded.

    What minerals will repel the flies?

    • @Udderfarm
      @Udderfarm  Год назад +1

      Hi A Light Unto The Gentiles, we use several combinations in our cafeteria style mineral feeder to help reduce buffalo fly numbers, such as Yellow Sulphur and garlic. Though we have found during peak buffalo fly season we still need to either used ear tags or install a fly back rub. Thanks for dropping by. Jason & NIc

    Do you have any recipe for lice in cows please

    • @Udderfarm
      @Udderfarm  Год назад +1

      Hi Maire, firstly thanks for choosing to watch our video and for finding the time to send us your message. Fortunately we haven’t had to treat for lice as of yet, touch wood! Though to help you out I searched online ‘How to get rid of lice on cattle naturally ’ and a load of ideas came up. To name a few- (1) Apply a thin coat of vegetable oil such as raw linseed oil to suffocate insects or,(2) dusting diatomaceous earth on affected areas or, (3) Rub 2 or 3 handfuls of sulphur along spine. There were a load more. May I suggest having a look for yourself to hopefully find something that suit your budget and requirements. I shall definitely have to do a video on it now as the situation arises! Hope you have a great day. Jason & Nic

      Hi Gia, thanks for choosing to watch our video and secondly for taking the time to message us. I must admit the legs were the hardest area to get without running them through the crush. Though with a little persistence and a lot of walking I eventually got the legs covered. Hope you have a great day. Jason & Nic

    How much dish soap

    • @Udderfarm
      @Udderfarm  Месяц назад +1

      Hi Richard, firstly thanks for choosing to watch one of our videos mate and secondly for taking the time to message us. As for how much dishwashing liquid, we only use a short squirt in the 5Ltr mixture. At a guess I would say it would be around 1-2 teaspoons. It’s merely used as a wetting agent so it sticks and spreads across our livestocks body when applied. Hope you have a grand day mate.

      I know right, I’m lucky I have quiet animals otherwise they’d be long gone! Lol. That’s only because we spend a lot of time with them.
      Though I’m sure their all grateful for the instant fly relief afterwards. Hope you have a grand day mate! Jason & Nic
