Hi Jason, here in France I use it effectively against ticks. On flies it limits a little but it is not as effective as on ticks. Your chain is nice, thank you.
@@TA.387 I haven't done any in-depth studies on this, but it seems to reduce them. Some smaller flies, often on the horns and eyes, don't seem to be affected. Probably because sweating doesn't work on these areas.
Jason Redmond mix maybe more consistent because they probably add a bonding agents and won’t be so dusty. Next time use Redmond we can see the difference when you open a bag.
Hey Russ, No we are no longer experimenting with the garlic. I tired it for a couple months and never seen much difference. It also got tricky finding garlic powder in bulk. Have your tried it and what were your results?
@@GrazingAcresFarm We have not tried garlic powder. In my research on garlic found a paper that went in to say it reduces insect larvae in the manure by 50 percent. I try to get the manure patties to recycle in as little as 7-14 days. Most of the recycling comes from insect activity. So that isn't an opinion on my farm. I have seen a lot of folks try it and then stop using the garlic. another of my limiting factors is it is just another input. I mean no disrespect to the folks using it with success.
It definitely helps im starting that this year myself. Went to a pasture walk last fall and the farmer there gas used this for years and has had grest success....also my cattle go through as much or mord minerals on hay as they fo grass
I sure hope it works. I hate seeing the flies on the cattle, drives me nuts. I would love to see little flies and happy cows as they graze this year. Time will tell.
Yeah, she acted like she didn't want to discuss garlic burgers at all. lol (A little side note: Red is one of my cows that is mixed into herd. She has a heifer calf that is about 7 months old and should calve again this year. Pretty excited!!)
So did you put both 1-pound bags in or just one? 1lb per 50lb of mineral, or 2lbs? At 1:22, you said you bought "a couple packs" of the garlic, and you hold up a bag that's already opened. At 1:37 you say you've already mixed some in. You then empty the already-open bag in. So it's not clear to me whether you put both "couple packs" in or just one. Thanks for the video - I"m eager to hear how it went.
Good video Jason, thanks for sharing really appreciate it hopefully it works out good for you. I take it that you do silage bales, how does your animals do on that stuff, do they get too lose or you feed dry hay with the silage bales.? Just curious, inerways good video.
The beef cows love the wet hay. This is alfalfa too. We figured it would give them the runs so we also bought some dry bale to offer but really it's surprised me how many wet bales they can eat before I see any lose stools. I still offer a dry alfalfa bale every few days.
Grazing Acres Farm I was just curious cuz I know some farmers feed wet and dry hay at the same time. which I guess it depends on how many animals you have, but inerways thanks for replying back.
If you are selling cattle for sides of beef the meat and hamburger will definitely have a garlic smell to it. How do I know? I've had a meat packing plant and in 43 years of butchering you can always tell when cattle have been eating the wild garlic in their pasture. It's a great idea that I'm sure works but as is with a lot of things there's always a drawback isn't there? LOL
I would want to know where the Garlic came from. I've heard Chinese Garlic is grown in Cess Pools and then bleached with Chemicals to make it white. If Garlic works I would want to make sure the Garlic was grown in the U.S.
I only order it from Amazon 1 time then started ordering from here www.farmersspice.com/products/garlic-powder?Google+Shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQiAtOjyBRC0ARIsAIpJyGO4B9CaBixrrQK5imfP1YYtbDxZGvzPuo4-ldNwgCErAlmqbKdFkDkaAsKoEALw_wcB&variant=28832402374708
Olam Spices sells garlic grown in California, USA. I personally would never feed ANYTHING to people or animals that came from China. I too have heard how the Chinese grow their human garlic.
I have no idea. I was told by a few people that mix their own that they use 1 pound garlic to 50 pounds of salt and they claim it's effective. I'd guess they wouldn't being doing it still if there were issue in garlic taste. I am sure no one really wants garlic beef or milk.
www.dairyreporter.com/Article/2020/01/06/Garlic-in-cow-feed-keeps-gases-down-and-milk-yields-up Apparently no effect on taste, but many benefits. I have to think at certain concentrations the garlic would effect taste. But given how much grass a cow eats, the amount of garlic they take in through the minerals would be minimal.
Hey Jason where did you buy your Redmond's mineral salt with garlic? Is there a certain brand that I need to look for, Redmond has a few different kinds. Thank you

So it works effectively on flies or not?

@@anthonyborn8208 thank you so much for the feedback
I just buy the salt block that’s already got the garlic in it at my local farm store, it works amazing!
Nifty, the first Time I've heard of it. Might be a use for the green leaves of garlic (leeks?). Dried and added at a higher rate.
So where’s the update? Did the garlic control the pests? Thanks
Use granulated garlic instead of garlic powder. It is heavier and won't blow away.
Jason Redmond mix maybe more consistent because they probably add a bonding agents and won’t be so dusty. Next time use Redmond we can see the difference when you open a bag.
Makes since! We plan to switch to the Redmond mixture once we run out of the regular mineral salt we are stocked up on.
Garlic works for us here in Minnesota!!!
You guys are awesome
I'm watching!

to bulk out the kelp - ive seen (and plan on doing the same ) ppl mix in natural charcoal - or biochar - (nothing with accelerant added)

It's not too often beef farmers fed wet hay usually it's dairy farmers but we find it keeps the cows looking good all winter and the calves too.

We haven't bought there's yet but here's what your looking for www.redmondagriculture.com/products/10-fine-garlic/
Any updates on effectiveness?
It did seem to be working but we switched our mineral program so I stopped adding the garlic powder.
Does this present any "flavoring promblem" for bees or the taste of honey?
Do what? This is not for bees it's for cattle. Did you not watch all of the video because I showed me feeding this to the cows?
how much is a pound of garlic powder?
I got mine from Amazon for $12.99 ($.81 a ounce).
