Mikael Åkerfeldt on his signature PRS SE model - PRS All Access with Opeth

- The SE Mikael Åkerfeldt is a singlecut, mahogany body guitar with a flame maple veneer and a 25" scale length, 24 fret maple neck with an ebony fretboard and bird inlays. One of Mikael's favorite specifications is the satin finish on the neck, which allows for effortless playing up and down the length of the neck without your hand sticking and slowing you down.
"From solos to rhythm, I can do pretty much everything on this guitar. It's my favorite guitar of all time," said Mikael.

He wanted people to be able to afford his signature model. This is an artist with a heart of gold! ^^
Gorgeous looking guitar, although I'd prefer the "O" being placed on the 12th fret instead of below the bridge. I'd probably buy one if that were the case.
yes! for sure.
It’s been ten years since I fell in love with his playing and I still enjoy nothing more than sitting with some Opeth tabs and a guitar, spraining my wrists, dislocating my fingers and yelling curses at him as if he were right there in the room. I’m gonna get myself a savings jar, it’s about time I had one of these :)
SininenKT I own one of the opeth guitars whats your best price on it?
Just buy a custom 24 s2, or a CE.
The songs are hard but once you nail funeral portrait or masters apprentices you start walking around with a really deep appreciation for how fuckin ridiculous of a composer he is
Bring this model back!!!!
He is an actual genius. Modest too, which is a great combo for him.
Ty Koty I don't think he's too much of a modest guy, but being perhaps one of the best musicians in history, he's definately not bragging
What an awesome guy. How often do you see signature guitars that are miles cheaper than what the artist has the luxury to ask for/play themselves. (That the artist ACTUALLY uses!)
He has custom PRS guitars and he stands by his signature, worth thousands less by his own choosing.
Usually name branding, combined with all the bells and whistles that make signatures unique, hike the prices up higher than their standard counterparts. In Mikael's case, it's the opposite.
So cool.
right. pretty mindblowing
sadly, its discontinued😭
@@laoude7890 i have one
i got this guitar 2 months ago and i love it, i also have paul alenders prs bats inlays as well both are good guitars i cain't live without them.
What a down-to-earth and awesome guy... I'm not a guitar player, but I absolutely love the dude!
What a beauty for this amount of money...
I'll get mine this week for just €579,- in Holland
Can't wait......... Oh yeah, love the Opeth logo whatever others say.
Why aren't these made noww, bringg theem bacccckkk!!!!
Every single SE model is from Korea. Doesn't matter who's it is, or what it is.
PRS pays a stupid amount of money to make sure they get one of the best factories in Korea.
Demon of the fall is drop D. Ghost of Perdition is, as far as I know, open D minor, like Reverie Harlequin Forest and Baying of the Hounds. Blackwater Park is drop D and Grand Conjuration is drop D. That's it for the non-standard truning Opeth songs that I can put my finger on at the moment.
That Akerfeld is not hailed the world over as one of the world’s greatest composers and musicians, just reinforces my belief that this world is not a just place.🫡
The Paul Allender signature SE rules! Love that guitar.
I bought this guitar, it's made in Korea. It doesn't have the locking tuners like what we see on Mike's guitar in this video. Instead just standard tuners. I bet there are more differences and we just don't know it. Obviously the guitar he is holding was custom made by PRS in USA.
it still looks good with that Opeth logo i want one!
I like the fact that this video has been up on youtube for almost a decade now and no one talked about the fact that Mikael's pants' are unzipped
i own this guitar, fucking plays like a champ
Yeah, I heard it's the same group that makes LTD for ESP. They're exceptional guitars for the price, I really like mine, and I think my torero is also Korean made. (Which is a phenomenal guitar as well)
Yeah, I never thought I'd willingly play on another import after I got my first real Les Paul, but these are fantastic guitars. Same great pickups as their more expensive counterparts, sanded down neck back, good attention to detail, etc. My only complaints are with the tuners, and the plastic nut. I'm thinking about replacing both. Normally with a cheap 700 dollar guitar I wouldn't bother, but the instrument sounds so killer, and plays so well that it actually feels worthwhile.
I also though this way, but after 2 times of watching this video I understood that this is what Mikael wants, he has no problem with his fans having the guitar with that logo, and my opinion was changed, because look, it is just a symbol of honor and appreciation to the band, it is exactly like getting a tattoo of that same Opeth's "O", and I saw many people who got that tattoo. It's not like you're saying look I AM Opeth, people who think that way just didn't think enough. That's my opinion. :)
Also, when I was considering buying the guitar, I researched extensively because I found it hard to believe he was using a Korean import. This wasn't the only video I watched where "Korea" is clearly visible on the back of his headstock. I could be mistaken, but as far as I know PRS doesn't ship any custom models from Korea.
I think the O logo is awesome!
it's still a fucking awesome guitar! tried it multiple times, great tone and great feel.
just bought one wed. very pleased with it. for the money better then any gibson studio
o yeah, the one he have on this video is the one you buy at the store. I mean the one he really use, the one he talk about at the begining of the video. It is clearly a good cheap backup/kickaround guitar. I have been surprised myself
Yes. I'm pretty sure that he's one of the Nameless Ghouls. Watch the video called- Ghost BC. - Interview - At The Corona in Montreal,Qc 2013 (HD)
"this is my weapon." 🖤
I want to have it! It´s a beauty!
The dropped tuned song is Ghost of Perdition
Isn't Demon of the Fall also in a drop tuning? I usually play it in drop D because it sounds correct.
Tuners are one of the cheapest things to upgrade on a guitar - it's how PRS manages to keep the Quality-to-Cost ratio so high. A set of Grover 406Gs (for Gold on the MA Sig) are what PRS recommends as Locking Tuner upgrades - they're drop-in replacements and do the job great, making the tremolo much more usable (I also replaced the stock nut with a TUSQ XL Black and have NO binding issues anymore)
That's pretty amazing how PRS was able to elevated their "cheap" guitar line to a level where pro musicians want to play and tour with...!! That's the proof this is just good guitars, very good guitars!
the logo is awesome! lol
Thanks man! I have grover on my other guitar, I think that'll work well :)
"I suggested dead rotting birds on the fretboard, haha funny, haa":-7
yes me too i am getting locking tuners on that model and was thinking about making a satin finish neck same as mikael's sating neck model i like mikaels neck type its beafier but i like it cheers buddy ^_^
I actually don't think you're right about this. It's definitely possible they took some extra attention to his personal shipment, but when he flips the guitar over you can clearly see KOREA written on the back. (These guitars are made in the same factory as ESP's LTD line)
I ended up buying one because I was looking for a cheap backup/kickaround guitar, and it ended up exceeding all of my expectations. Sometimes I actually choose this over my LP traditionals/artist series Jacksons.
And it's got his name on it!!!
beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!
I think he has a stock version of the guitar. I have the same one, but I don't have locking tuners and it feels a bit cheap, a BIT cheap, mark my words. An awesome guitar with an amazing sound. Buy buy buy!!
i really hope you figured this out by now
I Love this guitar. Not a real good player but I'm thinking about picking this one up.
I would like to buy one, but unfortunatelly cannot be found anymore. Such sadness...
Im so jealous :( I own an SE Singlecut, would love this one.
@sidedead92 Exactly! I love the Opeth logo, but it's just not 'cool' having a band logo on a guitar.
@Itsaprutten I just realized what you meant!
he is awesome
semi-pro pro guitars cost around that :/ this guitar is great for recording and almost everything fits in stage i've been playing with a ibanez gio and its nice so far but now i'm aiming farther you should try this guitar though or something else
I would get that O tattooed on my soul.
O.O My SOUL.
***** you can get Grover 406 tuners and they're a direct drop in for all se guitars.
I would like to admen that they are a direct drop in on all SE guitars except the new Zack Myers.
Michael Akerfeldt is really only an average guitarist when compared with the others who have equal popularity, but he is an incredible composer.
i have try this guitar yesterday, for a 600-700$ guitar, it is very very nice. But of course, nothing compared to a custom 24.
Listen to Damnation. Great PRS demo
I like this guitar, but I don't really like the Opeth logo on the top! I could image this guitar without the logo.
+Patrik shreds Thats alright! You wont ever get this guitar! so its fine!
his guitar is a prototype, hand made with all the love or Paul... as he say's "basically it's a private stock". I have play that SE guitar, it is good for the price, i would say hard to beat on that category. But does not compare to a custom 24 in anyway. I don't think it is with this he play, it just look the same. I think
2:17 You look really good like at that guitar... Ghosts...
@sidedead92
Exactly. If this model didn't have that huge O I would buy one
Big plus for Mikael name dropping Paul Kossoff
And don't get me wrong here, I don't know where they play them. That's just the tuning what I use, and I think it sounds about right.
what is the fretboard radius??? Anybody...
@Darksmash i don't get whats wrong. Just a shirt, pants, and shoes.
Does anyone know if he used this signature guitar on Heritage?
I might buy this in 5 years haha
why arnt these made anymore?
i have one i heard they dont make them anymore
I'm quite pissed the two Guitar Centers that are near me DON'T carry this model. =(
I'd probarly buy it if it wasn't for the Opeth logo...
i hope you manage to buy it mate, but for me its still very expensive :/
I wish they'd make a new one but with 22 frets and the piezo system...I'd be all over that
Question: Mikael would use this guitar if it was not his own signature?
Old man's rock type of sound xD epic Mikael Åkerfeldt is epic
What about Porcelain Heart?
i play it like that too, opeth variates a lot in their tones lol
SWEET...
What is that other song in drop tuning?
3:17 did anyone else thing the heritage head was the keyboard guy creepin in the backround for a second?
He is
@HeliconPath
put a sticker over it.
is this made in south korea?
He actually plays live shows on that guitar.
4:08 LOLOLOL
I see a Moog in the background :D
saviour of human kind...
Id replace the nut with a graph tech one too, that's the biggest problem with SE's.
I find it funny when people are all "Oh, you can't play someone's signature guitar, that would look wrong," then it's fine for some reason to play a Dimebag one.
I've seen some on e-bay at 669 dollars :) i'm working to buy one
Tried it at the guitar store. Tone wise it was awesome for the price you're getting. However it was too heavy for my taste. =\
@sidedead92 only $1000 at my store , cheapest PRS i've seen....would get it if that lovely logo wasn't there...
I like how Martin Mendez is stalking him through the entire video..
good lord this man has a sexy voice
I have one of these guitars for sale!
yeah its like... i love opeth so much... and PRS.... but i dont want the O :(
I find it even more funny that the world's most famous electric guitar was originally designed as an artist's signature. It's called the Gibson Les Paul.
Why would anyone not want the logo? O.o
don't have his guitar but have shoes like him hahaha
AND I OWN IT.
i guess he has a 24 fret single cut guitar
4:09 ...wardrobe malfunction
Why doesn't PRS make a 24 fret singlecut modern eagle that anyone can buy, not just Mike from Opeth? I'm not talking about a Korean made SE model here with a friggen veneer top O_O -- I mean a real American made Modern Eagle PRS singlecut with 24 frets, not 22, and a real carved maple top.
hehe this guy has my guitar... oO ^^
play it
