I mean, in a way, one of the core themes of The Sopranos is that Tony's attitude of "macho big boss guy" ("strong silent type" as the show puts it) is losing relevance, both in his life and in society. He grew up with an idea of what a head of a family (both a mob "family" and a domestic family) should look like. Gus Fring is kind of the antithesis - he doesn't have any actual family (on-screen at least), prefers to hide in plain daylight (his cover operation is not a seedy nightclub, but a family-friendly fast food chain), effects an affable persona, doesn't flaunt his power openly, and seems to require no external validation of who he is other than the sheer, cold success of his operation. And while Tony mostly employs people either because they're long-time associates, Gus hires people because he thinks they're competent and sufficiently trustworthy (Mike being the best example, and his doubts abut Walter confirming that hiring him wasn't exactly something he did lightly). Then again, Tony is just harvesting money, he doesn't need to run a business. He just needs to stay out of the authorities' and other families' face while his guys squeeze money out of people. Gus is running what is essentially a highly complex (and technologically sophisticated) illegal enterprise, so he probably has need for actual talent.
It was a true face change tho. The cartel believes that Gus' business belong to the cartel, so when Gus said he is the owner Lalo was astounded, like he's hearing someone admitting a crime.

Gus' subtle change in facial expression when Walt says that he thinks they're alike is one of my favorite moments of the show. He wants to keep up the facade but that statement makes him take the mask off. Brilliant.
Interesting to consider that had his standards of perfection not been so extreme he likely would’ve listened to his warning signs to avoid Walter and just had Gale learn the product from Jesse. It still would have been better than what they were doing but he would’ve driven himself nuts always knowing that even if it was better than before they’d never truly master perfection of the best product unless the process was handed down from Walt and his standards that matched those of Gus. The chase of that feeling would be no financial difference between Jesse or Walt but the standards negate that and led to so many problems. Bypassing concerns for the product in general had to have been lucrative to accept the concerns but still fun to ponder that working to bring Walter in was likely the need to meet the highest level of standards possible over being financially motivated since Jesse probably would’ve gotten to the same monetary result.
I'm really glad I watched the show before Gus became a meme. The twist of the unassuming extra being the menacing crime lord Walt's looking for is too good.
I live in California and they did promotional UberEats campaign that had a pop up Pollos restaurant. I never tried it but they had chicken sandwiches and such with names of the characters.

7:20 "kids won't eat it" this line throws me because it suggests that he is married with children. however we know he lives alone and is probably gay. was it a throw away line? was he lying to Walter? discuss
The intricacy and storytelling in breaking bad is extraordinarily. I had to watch it like 3 times to fully comprehend all the tangles of the show. Gus offers 3 million to Walt because he wants to train Gale, whom he can trust far more than Walt. Had Walt taken he would have been just sitting duck outside of the job. That's why we see Gus's hand shaking when he has to go to the police to talk about Gale's demise. Gus saw in Walt's product a way to expand his empire, but ended up poisoning his "machine" as much as he poisoned the cartel.

god damnit, such a well written show and so well acted holy crap, you just dont see something like this anymore.
I love Gus's versatility, the guy looks like. the nicest person you know and at the same time can make a scary face
10:24 Enjoy your meal
enjoy your meal
Thank you
Gus’s disturbing politeness is pure art. I love it
5:27 Gus:(Are you kidding me Nacho?)
Nacho:(Not my fault he's like this.)
That change in facial expression.
2:20 that ding.. ding.. ding on the background
“I don’t think we’re anything alike, Mr. White.” The shift from polite manager to drug kingpin is shocking and awesome. Just so cool.
i just want to try pollos ONCE.
I live in California and they did promotional UberEats campaign that had a pop up Pollos restaurant. I never tried it but they had chicken sandwiches and such with names of the characters.
Gus Fring is and has always been my favorite.
You have to do a compilation of Lalo being cheerful and nice next because we all know Lalo and Gus both had these FAKE pleasant personalities Lalos real self came out when he killed the couple especially the guy who looked similar to him you can see Lalos fake smile finally going away
I like how every public interaction Gus has with Walt, Walt is like a stuttering child caught doing something he shouldn’t have while Gus keeps up a flawless poker face
"Be polite. Be professional. Have a plan to kill anyone you come in contact with." -Gen James Mattis.
7:20 "kids won't eat it" this line throws me because it suggests that he is married with children. however we know he lives alone and is probably gay. was it a throw away line? was he lying to Walter? discuss
The way Gus breaks character the moment Walt says we’re alike in that way he was so offended by that
The moment one of the twins would later lose his legs and the other gets his head blown off
my favorite episode, name name, bravo vince!
The man doesn't want anyone or anything to affect his life!
When you have max disposition with a NPC in Oblivion
HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE HIGH ELVES MR WHITE
The actor does a great performance as Gus Fring!!!
Gus was a distinguished gentleman.
4:24 episode Name of season Name is truly the best one across the series no doubt
This man shouldn’t be my icon but he is
I'd work for him
The intricacy and storytelling in breaking bad is extraordinarily.
Gus saw in Walt's product a way to expand his empire, but ended up poisoning his "machine" as much as he poisoned the cartel.
he's like that one coffee bean that makes my nerve tingle
I like how he wrote with the back of the pen 😂.
pretty impressive gus runs a resturant with all the soft drinks unlabled and no mistakes are ever made. ever.
1:06
*walks up to counter*
Who are you and what you have done with Lyle?!
“C’mon, you can help me cook.” Interesting phrasing considering the circumstances. 😂
1:08 "You're back" Is she the only person who joking with Gus?
They're back
2:59 all the sodas are blank, how does Gus know which one is Diet Coke? 😂
because he is the owner and an immaculate one at that?
@@kdSU30 True, what was I thinking? I wonder how confusing it is for his new hires 😭
@@DocLunger probably first and last days will be same for some of the new hires 😂
It's his place, he knows
@@BornRanger The new workers must love that 🤣
I think it's funny that there must've been Karen customers demanding to speak to the manager at Pollos Hermanos, not realising how much mortal danger they are putting themselves into.
