Honestly. I m 100% hype by pax dei. I m ready to pay for play it on the alpha’s if needed. But the pvp and combat don’t make me dream … But I trust the project ❤
Im gonna be 100% brutally honest. I like every part of this game except for the combat. And this is absolutely crucial for the games success. It doesnt matter how many cool systems you have and how good your game looks when the main thing you are going to be doing 60% of the time (which is combat) sucks ass. And dont think Im being pessimistic. This is the main thing that buried Gloria Victis into the ground. They had all the makings of a great medieval MMORPG but their combat system was just dogshit and it dragged the whole game down. Stop everything you are doing and completely revamp the combat. Make it impactful, heavy and tone down the float.
the most sensible idea. If Pax Dei doesn’t have NW level battles like in this video "One Man Army PvP Montage | New World MMO 1vX PvP", then I personally will pass this mmo up.
I don't think it's bad. Things aren't interacting properly with each other, which is why you are seeing float, but it's a lot easier to make things interact with each other than it is to change the way things interact, if that makes sense. IMO this is decent alpha combat. It's a start. Nothing looks glaringly 'wrong' tho those stuns are pretty brutal. Are there good effects and movement, not quite, it's a bit janky, but I'd say stay the course opposed to revamp. The building blocks are there. The movement isn't bad, the animations aren't bad. It just needs to be fleshed out. GV was just kind of dry. The combat was... meh, but you have to create a world that people want to fight for. I never got inspired by GV combat because of that. I think exciting combat would be cool, but I also think slow janky combat fits medieval genre. They need to make it balanced and change some things, for sure, but I can 'see how it would be fine.' Is it gonna be like Black Desert, no, but it shouldn't be.
Gloria Victis had skill based combat, way more advanced than most other directional combat games. So skill based in fact it took months in arena to get good with it. Just by looking at this video in current state, I can tell GV combat was decades ahead. Doesn't look like they are going towards directional combat at all. Press block with shield, swing at 2 enemies by angling it up, that's like the only similarities I noticed. The rest of this is spam attack and don't forget to hit your stun attack once in a while, with a mild gimmick of instant weapon switching in mid swing while not forgetting to run away, madly changing direction to lose pursuit, to heal up.
@@times05 Yeah, it was pretty fun, but the game itself wasn't fun, to me. Not saying PD will be, either, but I know GV wasn't. I am pretty sure I played GV before they finished the combat as well, so it was probably even better. The thing is, some people want 'a world.' But yea trash combat sucks, too, but if the world is functioning, I'd be cool with combat like Embers Adrift haha.
People really want this game to be like another Enshrouded with it's exclusively PVE system, but a game like this deserves PVP and I'm glad they're not giving into PVEers crying about it. Giving both sides of the coin options here is their best move.
On my channel i have over 200 videos of raw pvp combat. Solo 1vX primarily, fighting 4 to 5 players at once. As hardcore of a pvp player that i am, i cant see full loot pvp working. You can have a system that lets you drop your current bag items, but you shouldnt drop your equipment. That disables your ability to engage in pvp. I dont want to grind for 2hours every time i die in pvp. You cant have a hardcore pvp game if pvp player cant pvp. Its strange how ppl think hardcore pvp is full loot when actually its the most anti-pvp thing you can have. The same way ranked pvp doesnt decrease your power by dropping rank, neither should any other competitive pvp environment. No one would watch my videos if i was in full plate armour killing ppl naked. No one looks at that and says "thats high level pvp content". But that is what full loot brings in. Its no longer skill based. I get it if competitive pvp isnt the goal, but they shouldnt try to sell it as such. Also, keep up the good work man! I love how much you are doing for the game and i hope to see more of your content. Once the game launches we should collaborate on some pvp content.
Yea! I think the devs know that full loot wont work all the time but they want to test it as raw as they can before they trim in back. @@FireHawk_ua yeah it seems like robot or statue it's so bad. When you watch AOC combat, you can really see the difference. Hope for a revamp, but if no one's telling them I doubt.
Have to agree with FireHawk here. The combat looks very much like Mortal Online, and the combat in Mortal Online literally broke all chances of success for MO itself. These areas Pax Dei showed look like they were random generated, there is no thought behind any of them. They dont guide the combat at all to situations where positioning logically would matter, where small gangs could hold up against larger, or where ranged could hold fort for advantage, or anything strategical like that. There are no objectives, and until you can build forts or mining facilities or other player created objectives, couple of resource nodes wont be worth digging when you get daggered to death. Weapon swings must be much faster, same with blocking responsiveness. The spears should be throwable, there should be many of them, there should be placeable immobile defensive barricades, something that gives the player some control orther than rubberband tag. It's an alpha, and as such its a test, maybe its still a technical test over anything else, because without that anything else its not going to go any better than MO did
Great video, definitely not interested in PVP on regular basis, however a clan event, a large scale "war" I would find interesting. And I do like the way the devs are handling it, not micro managing.
I wish PVP existed in the sense of, current 'home' regions = optional pvp, very hard to attack etc. Wildlands = PVP active and you can build... for the hardcore. Where you place your plot = bonus for resource gathering.
Worried. Honestly, watching the videos, I think the PVP combat is still too hardened, not enough mobility. It seems that they did not use any "motion capture" feature, staying only in the "pre-made" animations, with torsos and legs moving in a weird way. Without a decent combat animation on Alpha, I suspect that the art direction in this part is to be desired.
Animations leave a lot to be desired but also important to note that Mainframe is constantly updating these. I think a lot haven't even had their first pass on them. The production pipeline for game typically leaves things like animation towards the end. This is mostly due to how much things can change in an alpha there is no point to waste resources on something that you as a developer know is going to be tossed in the future. So it's critically important for us to remember these things will be updated as the game is developed. Combat and PvP are just now getting their first iterations. Im confident that as the game is developed we will start seeing more impactful animations, more variety and diversity of builds and abilities. Hope that gives some good insight! :-)
I always hated games with pvp that allow full loot, and that's generally where I draw the line whether to play or not. It will be a niche area most won't bother with. Instead, the game should only allow the looting of whatever is in your backpack. It can include gold and everything you looted in the pvp zone. Whatever you have equipped should NOT drop. Having the most valuable materials in the game available only in the pvp zone should be incentive enough to visit the zone. Trust me, change your decision now while the game is still being developed. You don't want a dead area few players visit. Many players will tolerate losing whatever they have in their backpack, but to lose what they have equipped will be a step too far.

Comments here are so sweaty, jesus. This is ALPHA. do people not understand what that means? you're getting upset about full loot pvp, but did you actually listen to the interview? Dev says themselves, they are starting at full loot, then deciding how to pull back on that, or implement ways to curb that. You would also have noticed they said that this PVP zone contains more abundant resources, but they are NOT exclusive to the zone. You can progress and play however you want without ever going to the PVP zone. getting frothy on youtube isnt going to change the plan for alpha 2. play it if you can, then give feedback.
The "sweaty" comments ARE the feedback. It is not remotely as popular as too many devs seem to think for this kind of game, and its a good way to lose players as they try a little pvp, get ganked, lose everything or certain prized items and just say "screw this".
@@tonyh8166 no they aren't. if people are crying about game play before even playing the game, while it's in alpha, they should just play something else. The dev's want feedback based on people TRYING the game, not just people's criticism of their vision before trying. that's useless. so many people think feedback is their opportunity to tell the devs how to make the game they want instead of being an opportunity to help the devs make the game the devs want. its their game, help understand their vision, then provide the feedback after playing to help them achieve it. if their vision isn't something you like go next. not too complicated.
@@exnexe @exnexe Well the devs can want pvp all they like, but that doesnt make it popular. Even in pvp-centered games where the best loot is in pvp territory participation is only maybe 25%. The data isnt exactly hard to find. While the specifics of "cost" can mitigate it somewhat, as a general rule nobody wants to lose anything meaningful that they worked hard for. if its just cash people can deal with that, but losing your +5 vorpal cheeseslicer you worked 20 hours to get because you got turbo-ganked by a wandering horde is not fun, and the devs already acknowledged that that can happen (the Asmongold follower horde reply) with current plans. Wow- the losers dont lose gear or even cash, they just fail to gain anything. In Eve you loose money mostly as long as your insurance is paid, plus some time as you maybe buy new modules, and still max participation is 25% or so. Pvp for meaningful stakes is NOT very popular. Everquest had 4 pvp servers out of 50 PVE servers. Diablo 4 pvp zones are empty. Can you name a game that has successful pvp implementation that isnt match-based or just minimal cost for losing? So the feedback is dont waste resources catering to 10% of the player base, or, if you must implement it, make it low cost but meaningful reward, and neither of those opinions require playing a game to hold or be valid. If you want to counter that you have to show that pvp with significant loss effects is popular. I'll wait. "Just play something else"? In case its escaped your notice or magnificent intellect, people deciding to play something else instead is NOT what the devs want. so perhaps, just perhaps your condescending comment is not as useful or clever as you imagine?
Personally I cant imagine why people still keep thinking pvp is massively popular. In my experience it just isnt. Even in WoW, which has top gear from battlegrounds (ie- maximum incentive), its maybe 25% of the players who do any of it at all. The rest just arent interested. Without top rewards for it nobody will care. and if it does have top rewards it unbalances the rest of the game. Arena pvp, sure, but open world? No thanks. Risk all your stuff for somewhat easier resource gathering? You'd have to be insane. It's a waste of dev resources and will be a deserted wasteland inside 2 months.
I came here to see if PVP is going to ruin this game for me. I also looked at the FAQ. I don't want to be limited in where I can go and what I can do if I don't want to deal with pvp, so I think this game is just straight up not for me. It looks a little like Albion online, where the central areas have no pvp, but the outskirts require pvp. I don't really think I want to deal with this. My perfect MMO experience would be a little more like Everquest but with the ability to modify the world, (building etc)... that's the game I was hoping to find here. EQ1 was originally designed thinking pvp would be a big part of it, but in the end, they made it optional, and the game ended up with lots of PVE servers and just like one or two PVP servers. Make the game you want, but I decided a while back that I'm just too old and too easily frustrated to want to deal with this kind of pvp anymore. If I want to pvp, I'll go play Overwatch, Rocket League, CoD etc... where it's purely skill based and balanced.
Definitely not for you right now. But check back once they add more features. The feudal system (not in the game yet) will allow for open world PvP amongst warring kingdoms. A lot more open in that way. Not for you now but maybe up your alley in the future!
PVP should not reward someone / clans with resources. especially not with higher tier materials. This just leads to, the winner group getting even stronger, hereby alienating all other guilds from the PVP Zone, rendering them unable to punsh up ever again.
@@TommiSRP skill never matters in scenarios where: everything / level + knowledge + skill... is equal. (skill is, per definition, qual) Exept, one group is controlling high tier resource spawns and the other group has to punsh up by loosing all gear and re-gather low tier materials in pve zones. Doesn't sound funny to me.
I would enjoy a scenario where a players mechanical skill, and superiority in it allowed them to take down players with higher tier gear, but worse PvP skills :) @@wirrwarr7569

Yikes kind of disheartening that they will allow dog water streamers with big followings to come in and grief the pvp zone. Best bet is to find out where they are and avoid that server I guess.
Sad to hear. Forced pvp is the quickest way to kill your game. Pretty much a deal breaker for me. I'll check out the alpha if I get an invite but my hype went from 9 to 1 upon hearing forced pvp is in. If there's a pve only server i'm back on board. Everyone knows "pvp" in these games is just roaming bands of gank squads harassing smaller groups, spawn farming, road blocking etc. Hard pass, been there, done that, have the grey hair to show for it.
There is nothing forced about the PvP though! It is a zone that you can completely circumnavigate and you can acquire all the same resources from any of the non-PvP zones. Think of the PvP zone as a sandbox to see how players behave... how spawn farming develops for example. Petur and Sulka describe it pretty well in this interview though. You can play the entirety of Pax Dei without ever being FORCED to PvP. A critical design choice as there are many players like you who are turned off by PvP especially forced PvP! Hopefully that clears things up for you!
@@eltariihm well if that's true it doesn't sound too bad. i don't mind an area that's segregated for pvp purposes at all. my understanding was you could be PKd anywhere in the game except the homeworld area, but am happy if I just missed the part where that isn't true. admittedly, the accents were difficult for me to parse so i likely just missed something. thank you for the response, and i hope you're right!

In Eve you loose money mostly as long as your insurance is paid, plus some time as you maybe buy new modules, and still max participation is 25% or so. Pvp for meaningful stakes is NOT very
popular.
I believe they will make pvp better than any game
@@imperialorc1 Well we can hope its at least good, but I've explained why I have extremely grave doubts that it can be done. We'll see.
Dear Eltarii, Is there mana in the game?
Currently there is only Health and Stamina but that can always change!
But getting the gear is the reason it is fun, It comes with stakes tied to it and skill matters!
@@TommiSRP skill never matters in scenarios where:
everything / level + knowledge + skill... is equal. (skill is, per definition, qual)
Exept, one group is controlling high tier resource spawns and the other group has to punsh up by loosing all gear and re-gather low tier materials in pve zones. Doesn't sound funny to me.
I would enjoy a scenario where a players mechanical skill, and superiority in it allowed them to take down players with higher tier gear, but worse PvP skills :) @@wirrwarr7569
Sir, we are revoking your license to opinion due to a recent instance of class 4 carebearism. Please remove your hands from the keyboard and slowly unplug your router.
You should l2p. That means l2 pvp. Git gud. Go scrub it up.
Yikes kind of disheartening that they will allow dog water streamers with big followings to come in and grief the pvp zone. Best bet is to find out where they are and avoid that server I guess.
Ouff, another game with lots of cool system but dogwater combat. Why are there so many of these.
@@phoenixfire8226 yup! I wanted to be sure to clarify just in case!
Rest assured you will not be attacked by another player unless you intentionally go to the PvP Zone AND you cross over the PvP threshold!
I hope you get to test it yourself on the 23rd!!
@@eltarii Carebears will and DO cry upon seeing or hearing the letters P.V.P especially when chained together. Add in Full Loot or words like Hardcore and its a wrap their little carebear minds just lose it, panic sets in, ability to reason fails, FEAR consumes them. But hey thanks for clearing that up cause that bear was atleast in stage 4 of the FEAR.
Give me the Alpha-2 key 🙏
Full loot will kill pvp
Full loot earned Albion Online a playerbase of 300,000 in 6 years.
Go play wow if you don't like balanced pvp.
in Albion online or in Pax Dei - where is it faster and easier to get a good pvp set?
If in Pax Day you have to spend a lot of time on a new set, then people will not want to visit the pvp zone with full loot.
Imagine that in Albion online you need 30 days to collect resources and craft a new tier 8 set.@@warfighterarmy
