    You might want to consider this: before shoving the new gasket in, temporarily put the handle back on and turn the water on to flush out the debris from the old crumbly gasket. If debris is left in there, it could cause the new gasket not to seal completely.

      I agree. Additionally, putting some lube even just spraying some wd40 on the rubber parts will prevent the rubber being torn or warped during the tightening process. I might add too, that WD40 is not a penetrating oil. To free up,that rusted bolt a proper penetrant will work a lot better. There are several different brands.

    • @hobosaur4250
      @hobosaur4250 10 месяцев назад +1

      WD-40 usually is not good to spray on gaskets since petroleum products will cause rubber to swell. Silicone based stuff is perfect for that.

    Tip from a navy vet, rusted screws and bolts will loosen if you hit it with Tobasco sauce, wait 5-10 min. They use it at sea. It works!

    great video...also easy to just replace ALL the gaskets (pulling entire stem out)...why not...ONE THING I found out was white does not always mean right hand thread...I was only able to determine this because I paid attention to the WHITE cap I removed which was FLAT on the inside edge..NOT inward rounded/Concaved like in the video...I only mention it as there is info that says WHITE is always right hand...I used the TAN version and corresponding gasket/all fixed...so just pay attention to what you removed and match to the kit. Thanks for the Video! Stopped my leaking faucets! ALSO...my handle bolts were rusted on...so I had to dremmel off the handles and removed the entire stem...some PB blaster and heat (gently hold the stem with a vice or pliers while working the rusty bolt out...finally was able to work the bolt out. Chase the threads with the new stainless bolt that comes with the new handle kit...even maybe a dab of anti seize.

When it comes down to fixing things such as Electrical, and Plumbing, I can get flustered VERY-EASILY, but because of your cool, and calm demeanor, and more importantly, YOU ARE NOT TALKING A THOUSAND MILES AN HOUR LIKE SO MANY OTHER RUclipsRS DO, THAT MAKES UNDERSTANDING THE VIDEO DIFFICULT, AND IT TENDS TO ADD EVEN MORE UNNECESSARY STRESS TO THE SITUATION AT HAND, but since you a smooth and slow, it is so calming and it gives me the overall since of reassurance that I CAN AND WILL COMPLETE THIS REPAIR WITH EASE AND COMPLETELY SOLVE THE PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING WITH MY FAUCET HANDLE LEAKING!!!! Thanks, Everyday Home Repairs for this video. I had NO CLUE how to fix this problem and your video helped a lot. I will say, however, the mechanics of my faucet were a bit different. I had a tan 7/8 inch screw and I HAD to turn the water off because I needed to semi-remove the stem to remove the washer. It didn't come out easily like it did in your video. But pulling the stem was pretty easy (just keep turning the faucet as if turning the water on until the stem comes loose). Then I replaced the washer (different washer than what you used in your video), put everything back together, and NO MORE LEAK! Thanks again!

    Great Job, I do it a little different, i flush out around the seal area and add some plumbers grease to ease the friction on the O-ring and seal. maybe you did that but didn't show it. but still a great job stopping the leak. having all the possible replacement parts was smart.

    Thanks!! Great info to have as a homeowner especially when the plumber is gonna charge you like $300 to come do this!

      With tax included, I was quoted $500! This video is a saver :-)

    Thank you for this video! Especially the product links in the description. No stores near me had the parts so I had to order them from Amazon.

      Hey Kyle, yeah if you know exactly what part is needed Amazon Prime is a pretty solid option. Glad the video helped!
