I like how he mocks the dude like 'her life's gonna go on. Yours is ending right here. On this funky floor. Over 9800 dollars'. Imagine bleeding out and someone mocks you like that, that's savage shit right there.
The last words of a failed fucking mission.....soul gone reduced to nothing 😪😪 over 9800 dollars 🤣😂
I thought he was going to dump the cash on his face before he died.
Not really mocking, just pointing out a fact to the Russian who was dying.
He gave them their chance
*spunky floor not funky floor
He always makes his action roles feel intelligent rather than just a one man army type role.
Assassins are usually more intelligent people. Efficient, when its a job and you aren’t emotionally invested you font get excited and can maintain mental acuity. Making you more lethal and efficient. The mantras help you. The process helps you.
that's why he's the best
I meant in real life
I honestly believe Denzel doesn't like these assassin type roles --- but he's like Liam Neeson and knows that late 50's guys don't get that many choice roles and the money is good so he takes them to build up the retirement fund and stay relevant --- but I also think he does a lot of rewrites on the script to make it more "intelligent"
Rockwell Rhodes when you are weak fein strength, when you are strong fein weakness.
The small facial tics on Denzel’s face as they insult him and talk about this girl as nothing more than a valuable product are incredible. He conveys so much anger, resentment, and rage in such a controlled and brief manner that it’s just astounding.
Denzel is the best US actor of his generation.
@@CalebBerman reported for spam

The truly horrifying thing, is that it happens in the real world all the time, worldwide.
Denzel's facial ticks have always been a part of what makes him great. All his major charachter rolls have them.
Denzel is just that good as an actor, he always had you sitting on the couch, not saying a word, just using your eyes in all of his movies ..that's why i love this actor, never disappoint of entertainment
Calm down mate
Well said @True Gamer
@@saimrahman862 You had to edit that hot take? 😂😂😂😂
Everyone is always sucking his dick saying he's the best actor in the world, yada yada yada, I mean he's definitely one of them for sure but there are other greats as well. And this is an action movie where you could have gotten a number of different actors to play the same or a similar role. Once again nothing against DW, it's true he's a legend and an all time great but he ain't God and there are other great legendary actors besides him.
@@MrRobjs83 bruh, why are you so butt hurt on my post, what is your deal?? 🤨
Ya gotta love the way he rates his performance and timing when he's finished, just beautiful.
Perfect depiction of an autistic murderer. :)
He let the psychopath take over.
It definitely wasn’t 28 seconds though, it was 28 seconds when he stopped his watch over a minute and 15 seconds before lol
Always room for improvement Mr. McCall...
Yeah, that was pretty cool.
I like how he assesses the situation, gives himself an estimate on how long it should take to neutralize the threat, and then tests to see if he's up to his own standards. Professionals always push themselves to be better.
16 seconds estimated. 28 seconds - 9 seconds of messing with corkscrew dude = 19 seconds.
Not bad, could be better.
Loved that part of the character. He also gets quicker as his edge comes back.
Legend. Was trying to work out why he does that. Ahahahah.
Yeah. That's how I am while playing Call Of Duty. I'm cold.
So what he gonna do if the guy with a gun decides not to get close and just aim at him from a distance like any normal person with a gun would do?
@@venveng He analyzed the entire environment. Hyperfocus to identify markings like the tattoo on one of the guy's necks. Metal chain necklace which could be used to choke. Noticed the only guy with a gun was the guard by the door. He even identified normal objects like the cork screw that he could use as an improvised weapon. He knew they wouldn't just shoot him right away, so he waited for the guy with the gun to try and restrain him. Instantly used his own gun to shoot the boss before he could pull his gun that he would have pulled from his desk. He calculated exactly what type of threats these guys would pose and delt with them accordingly. Ranged threats? Watch The Equalizer 2 near the end.
The moving of the skulls was such an ominous foreshadowing. Absolute brilliant writing and directing
Less foreshadowing and more like shining a huge, bright light on what's about to happen.
"Foreshadowing" lmao.
I think it was also drawing attention to the fact that these supposed badass criminals are just showboating amateurs compared to him; these jackasses feel the need to have three different skulls on their desk to show how scary they are, while Robert downplays everything in his demeanour because he knows he's the real deal.
@@mzytryckYeah that’s how gangs work
“You should’ve taken the money” - classic line. Words to remember.
Yeah.. remembered for 30 seconds 😂
I love that this fight doesn’t drag at all. It is not loud and in fact very swift and almost quiet. It just means when this man attacks, his aiming is deadly and precise
For the exception of the Russian bald man yelling 😂
It's because Robert McCall is a professional. He might as well be an assassin.
Agreed !
Yeah man I watched it too
He's an ex DIA; can't miss too much ...
I love the short internal conflict he has with himself opening and closing the door, one side of him says walk away because of his vow to his deceased wife but the other side says no. I’m glad he said no and locked them in. Brilliant!
I always thought it was just his OCD but your explanation sounds like a much better movie.

"Nobody can play these parts" is like saying a girl is a 10... there is no one better looking... we all know that is BS! There will always be someone better...
This is probably my favorite scene from both movies. When he says "ponimayesh'" (Do you understand?) to him, and the guys eyes register the whole, "Oh crap. He knew what we were saying all along...........who is this guy????" *EPIC.*
Actually, McCall repeats the word "ponimaesh" to him. The guy asks McCall to call the number on card given by Slavi to McCall few nights ago and later says "ponimaesh".
Denzel actually says “ponial” not “panimaesh”, so it’s past tense: “did you understand?”.
He says "poyat" meaning "have a drink"
@@TheKinoKitchen2001 No, he doesn’t. It would make no sense if he had really said that
@@MARCO50328 of course it does. Because he kills him with a bottle opener so he says: "have drink"
Denzel has that range of acting skill where he can terrify you with a glance and make you love him 30 minutes later. Such an amazing actor.
One of my all time favourite scenes in a movie. Will never get tired of watching it. An absolute masterpiece moment in film making, you literally feel like you are in the room with Denzel. A truly amazing actor, no one else can pull it off the way he does. Let's have a trilogy please.
I agree this scene and the scene from equalizer 2 when he beat the shit outta those frat boys and told dude to give him 5 stars on the drive app 😆 🤣
the bar fight in The Book of Eli is up there as well
I think there in the middle of making the 3rd movie now, but not sure. If so i think it will be out in 2022.
@762ndTB I was hopeful for a another sequel until they came up with that hokey joke cringe worthy Queen Latifa TV series. I really do hope you are right about this. As a big fan of the original EQUALIZER TV series with Edward Woodward, Denzel Washington has taken it to a completely different level and as always extremely well done at that. A masterpiece.
@762ndTB the only sequel to a film series Denzel has ever made was Equilzer 2. He's one of those actors that prefers making new IPs and not sequel after sequel. Seeing how they turned Equilzer back into a TV show with Queen Latifa, I don't know how interested Denzel and any other parties are in making Equilzer 3. I'd love to see a third one with Denzel, but I don't really see that happening by this point.
Imagine bleeding out and the guy that just shot you told you how long you have left to live. The last thing you see/hear is him counting the seconds down to your vision fading and everything goes dark. This movie is brutal haha love it!
Not that brutal when you examine it. The guy who is dying will have no 'after-memory' - he'll be dead.
hes counting numbers because when someone is dying they're clinging on trying to think about living, but if someone's counting it acts like a nursery rhyme so they get distracted and fall asleep to it
No shit
...and telling you, "You should've taken the money".
Also may I add he's describing how he's dying. Heart's beating 3x the normal rate. In about 30 seconds your body is going to shut down. That's kind of a messed up way to go...laying there suffering staring at your killer and there's nothing you can do about but......DIE 😄
I never get tired of watching these movies. The subtle details, the intelligence of DW assessing his surroundings within seconds is awesome. Love it love it love it
@FlyHigh kinda
Denzel is one of this generations finest actors, truly brilliant, and an incredible human being.

I bet when they found out their pimp was murdered they probably had a party 🎉🎊.
He was murdered by an ex Navy seal of course.
nah. the girls simply changed owners
What I find so hard to believe is how excellent an actor Denzel is and yet he’s only won 1 academy award for Best Actor 😮 I mean have these people even seen Malcolm X and all the rest!? This dude is a legend!
Two. One for glory in 1990 and the other for training day in 2002. But yeah you’re right he’s amazing!
I would have to admit that Denzel Washington is one of the most badass actors in film history because of this and other movies he starred in.
Let's not forget Liam Neeson in the Taken franchise! That guy is on another level!
My favorite being: Man On Fire
Yo!!! 1st Marine Division!!!! Let’s go!!!!
He's most upset about not meeting his own time goal over everything else. Savage.
2:02 - I believe he enters a trance-like state where he is both assessing the situation - where everyone is - what weapons he can find - and also heightening his awareness to a point that everyone
appears to be in slow motion to him. This is why he is so good, when they take a swing he has already noticed it and has figured out several ways to counteract it.

As a person with OCD I love his little mannerisms he does in this scene like organizing the table, or when he does the same when he has food at the diner. Makes sense someone like him would be obsessive with every little thing.
"How do you find a person with a trendy mental disorder on the internet? Don't worry, they'll let you know whether it's relevant or not."
I love the fact that he killed the boss almost immediately, rather than saving him for last like every other movie would have done
Well Slavi (the Boss) possibly had a gun and safe distance from Robert so paradoxically he was still the most dangerous! Being a skilled Assassin means choosing targets wisely and it was executed so well here. Apart from that, Robert actually saved Slavi for last, but to roast him before death, which is very cold bloody in a good way.
One of the best action scenes around. The combination of Denzel's performance, combined with the character's realization that he's a bit older now... a bit slower than he was, but still very lethal is fantastic. The script is crisp; just enough shit talking. Excellent!
The genius element of this scene is when the guys' vision begins to blur, Denzel looks just like the skull that he turned towards him.
Wow, I never noticed that! His nose looks like that of the skull as it becomes blurred. Good observation!!
Damn I've seen this move many times and never noticed that! Good call out!

Now this makes a lot more sense lol.
he only locks the door *after* opening and closing the door, nothing to do with hiding the sound of it
@@demiballs2396 He does it multiple times. you'd have to ask the screenwriters but imo the sound of the door locking sounds very similar to the door closing. I feel like the mobsters would've not been okay with him just locking the door out of nowhere like that lol.
They could not a better grittier McCall homage to the 80’s tv show than this movie…. And none other than Denzel!! Even at his age still delivers and then some!!! Powerful, jaw dropping, takes the living daylights out of anyone!!! Brilliant!!
It's in the eyes!
One of his best movies yet in my opinion!!
Yep, I remember the 80s show too
Too bad they ruined it with Queen Latifya
One homage to the original show which not many have caught, unless you're a car guy, is when he has the bad cop locked in the car, in the garage. You never see the whole car, but it is a Jaguar XJ6, which is what McCall drove in the TV series.
28 seconds was all the time he needed and that’s THE DEFINITION OF BADASS!
28 - 9 = 19
He still wasn't happy as he was over by 3 seconds...
He took a little longer with the guy he killed with the corkscrews that was the extra seconds went to !!
u have 28 likes pls why ?
A fun part of this scene is the counting. He assessed it would take 16 seconds to kill them all, but that's only when the killing starts, so he counts (up to 9 seconds) until the action starts, then he subtracts the 9 from the final time (28 seconds), so discover he missed his target by 3 seconds (19). He would have hit it no problem if he didn't enjoy the last kill so much.
The choreography in these Equalizer movies are so good. Denzel definitely knows what he's doing.
Imagine laying on a *funky* *floor* about to die over *9800* *dollars,* and your last words are... *who* *are* *you?*

Never in my life have I ever seen a badass action scene like this and still blown away by the acting.
When you say "badass", people think you're a twelve-year old.
The way brother Denzel looks in their eyes as he’s tearing their hearts out is the bomb
In the world of movies there are few, very few actors who can pull off a scene like this in such a confident, believable way. Denzel is one of them
One of the best scenes in any action movie made last 10 years.
What i also really love is the last scene from the lord of war, where he is in arrest talking to the Agent that got him. Has no violence but is equally well played and somehow reminds me of this.
One of the coldest beatdowns in cinematic history...
The music in this movie, Robert's theme, is just awesome. Love this movie. Denzel is one of the greatest actors ever!
One of my favorite movies of all time. Can't wait for part 3. Love Denzel
Perfection at its height, no one but him can or will pull off this acting ever again!!!
The small, subtle details -- how McCall slaps the guy's head down onto the glass table after slicing his throat or the way he discards the corkscrews, knowing his fingerprints are untraceable -- these and more drive the intensity of the action and prove that Denzel is at the top of his craft!
4:11 Denzel does the “speaking calming to mock his dying adversary” thing in so many movies im starting to think he puts them in the script himself lol.
Just love the hindsight wisdom he tells the boss as he's dying. Gotta have a good "I told you so" moment before the bad guy dies.
The subtlety of McCall's slight head turn and death stare (0:15) when Slavi dismissively calls Illyana "troublemaker and again at (1:03) after his final insult is chilling. The pimp's life (and everyone else's) ended at that moment. Phenomenal acting by Denzel.
That 0:16 shot always gets me. Very bone-chilling how he does the small head tilt. Damn near looks possessed lol
DW knows Russian too..
What a film! Fabulous story and the soundtrack just adds to the tension. I've watched it so many times!
When he goes into slow motion and analyzes everything in the room in slow motion, that is so cool.
And the most savage part in all this? He doesn't get angry, or happy. He looks the same way he does removing the gangsters from the planet as he would going out to get his mail. He's a MACHINE. This wasn't murder, or revenge. This was him taking his professional pulse.

Just with corkscrews instead of hot oil
"You could've heard a pin drop...when Tommy stopped...and locked the door."
- Kenny Rogers
When he locked the door I said to myself "Now youse can't leave".
Believe it or not, I watched this movie 89 times, part 2 about 25 times. What had me so intrigued in part 1 is the compassion he showed towards Aleena, and the burning internal disgust that overwhelmed him with her being taken advantage of. It's almost like a father/daughter relationship developed to the point where he just HAD TO DO SOMETHING about it..and my goodness, did he do something about it!!!!! He broke his seemingly deepest vow to avenge her... phenomenal!!!!!!
And guess what we have Equalizer 3 let's enter a last ride with Denezel !!!
Have watched countless times and still enjoy every second of it. This is how the bad guys should be treated!
Gotdamn it, the way he just looks at the dude before he rips him apart with those bottle openers.
Like “you ain’t got sh*t, you and I both know you ain’t got sh*t, but you’re welcome to try anyway.”
If I were in the room, and Denzel closed the door three times like that, I’ll jump out of a window! 🤣
Better odds of surviving!😉
😂😂😂
Actually, he closed it four times...
No one wants to be cork screwed to death
He knew there were no Windows.
That bit with the Corkscrew was chilling 😮Denzil rocked in this .
Quick and methodical, not overly flashy, I like it.
Denzel's fight scenes look authentic, good director, editor and great stunt choreography.
They actually look incredibly staged and choreographed, as do 99% of all movie fight scenes. An example is how the knife attack guy at 3:01 literally steps forward and stabs into air and conveniently leaves his hand there to be manipulated.
I knew this movie was going to be good before I even saw it because my dad had already seen it and he chose to go with me to see it again. And my dad pretty much never went to the theater to see a movie more than once. So, for him to be so willing to do so for The Equalizer got me really excited. And I have to admit, I loved that for an "action" movie, the hero was very methodical and cerebral. He was a one-man army, yes, but that was only because he was *smart* about how he went about things rather than just having plot armor and going in guns blazing. It gave the events of the movie a very realistic "feel" so that it could feasibly have been something that had really happened.
Definitely one of my all time favorite action movies. Denzel pulls it off with such panache. Calm and confident in all his confrontations. He should have done more spy movies.
Lol ya I think the guy that I saw this with had already seen it too . Great movies. I didn't get to see the second in the theater though
Denzel's look at seconds #16 & #17 says so much! You can see the potential of everything he is about to do in those two seconds.
Gawd...he is such a good actor..love the guy!
Big Ups to Antoine Fuqua! He directed this masterpiece.
Where do people say big ups, just curious what country you're from
0:16 ALWAYS gives me chills… Denzel looked possessed here lol…. Awesome acting
I just watched this film again last night. This clip is only one of several expertly shot scenes. Denzel Washington strikes a perfect balance of negotiation and controlled aggression where so many other films in the genre go for highly implausible stunts and lots of guns. Well acted by all concerned, stunts, photography and choreography first class and skilled direction.
Just the countdown alone , gave me chills . Great performance and great script .
Now THIS is a franchise that can remain fresh movie after movie, as it's proven throughout the 2 so far.

Ever been in an accident where time seemed to slow down?
Wasn't it amazing how you could see everything in perfect clarity for a split-second?
This guy can 'go there' on demand.
He said "16 seconds" as his estimate of how long the fight will last.
Closing the door several times, he is re-calibrating time.
Every punch and block was perfectly timed...to him, the fight probably felt like it lasted all day.
He checks his watch after the fight to know how much time has really passed.
He gets 'un-stuck' in time when he fights, and the watch ritual puts him back into our world.
