Walt truly won. He was dying, and probably didn't want to die a slow death, he wanted to be with his wife again... this was the only way to save Thao and Sue, and he finally felt like he could atone for some of the bad things in the war.... Great movie. Great reaction. Thank you. ❤
This reminded me of a few old guys in my old neighborhood growing up. They were mean to everyone but if you stuck around long enough they started to be nice and friendly. This one hit me hard too.
Yeah. Reminds me of my Grandpa and a couple of friends dad's who fought in Korea. I miss them. Learned a lot from them and boy could they put the fear into you if they wanted.
Kayla, girl, I have watched this movie many, MANY times with as many reactors! I have to say to you (this compliment)! I love the way that you stayed just ahead of the result of each scene! I really enjoyed the sweetness in your comments throughout! But especially loved your reaction to the sacrificial ending by Walt! I truly love all of Clint’s movies, but you certainly helped me to “re-enjoy” it in such a refreshing way! Thanks bunches!
Love how passionate you are with what happened. I work as a nurse with oold people and they always see the best in you and want to do the best for you. As long as you be straight and honest, respect the people around you. This movie shows it all
I knew you were in trouble at the start when you said you knew older generation that was crusty outside but caring and honorable underneath!😂 subbed off your good heart alone!❤😊👍
9:51 the guy walking with the girl is Scott Eastwood, Clint's son. i've seen an amazing film with him, called "Diablo" it's a western, and he is a spitting image of his father in it. this is an amazing film, the thought of him sacrificing himself for his friend is what gets me every time, he knows that he will pass soon because of the cancer, but it still is hard to watch. another great reaction! 👍
Walt was not an angel, he made mistakes, he done things he regret deeply. But he cared, he cared for his mistakes, the things he deeply regret, that is not evil. And he wanted good people to get a chance. It is a touchy film because Walt is a at first glance, a very easy character to label, due to things he says, as he is that way. and maybe for a portion of his life that was true, but be it the disease or death approaching or simply circumstances, he lifted himself up once more, and throw himself in another direction. And maybe by doing so, he didn't only save Thao and Sue, maybe he saved himself in that process.... Just some thoughts :) I appreciate you reacting to this film. Thanks!
Thanks very much for the Lovely reaction! I’m old too and have watched allot of people react to this great film. Most of them wrongly commented about how racist Walt was and how much he learned during the movie. You’re the first one I’ve watched who understood that Walt doesn’t really change at all during the movie. Your understanding of his true nature, values and Heart of Gold is revealed through the circumstances he responded to with that old school Character! Thanks again, God Bless!
Don't worry about crying Kahla, I'm in my 50's, seen it in the theater, several times online, and countless reactions, and every time it gets me. IMO it is one of the most deep, layered, and profound mastercraft piece of cinema I've ever watched, and moreso every time. It rips me up without fail. Always love it when good hearted reactors like yourself take this one on, because you understand the breadth and depth of it. You're one of my favs and always enjoy and appreciate your unique perspectives and observations on things.
This may be Eastwood's best movie. Walt finally finding his redemption at the end by sacrificing himself for Thao and Su and shedding the guilt of having killed that young N Korean soldier in the war instead of letting him surrender. And yeah, I teared up too watching this because we came to care for Walt and his relationship with Thao and Su. an emotionally difficult movie to watch is "Wind River", written and directed by Taylor Sheridan who went on to do the "Yellowstone" TV series. It tackles and exposes a hard subject that needs more attention but it's a bleak and sad movie
Stumbled across this by accident as I am a huge Clint Eastwood fan. Loved your reaction and outlook on the movie. I look forward to seeing more of your reactions (also, it doesn't hurt that you're absolutely gorgeous to boot).
Hi Kahla. Great reaction to a great film. I can tell you really felt this one. Clint Eastwood made some really great films. Bloodwork is another one he directed and starred in that's really good. Different kind of story, more of a murder mystery. Keep well and I'll see you in the next one. 🥂
A really incisive, well-expressed reaction. Thank you for sharing it with us. My dad was a veteran of both WWII and Korea--he could be pretty withholding with his emotions. He was never one for being bigoted. He had a very colorful assortment of curses he used frequently but never anything racial or prejudiced (he taught me that the one word I must never, ever use was the "N-word". The "F bomb" wasn't great, but never a racist slur) He was tough
I loved your heartfelt reaction. Your emotions were my emotions the first time I watched this film. Walt connected with his immigrant neighbor family in a way that was impossible with his own flesh and blood. It was truly beautiful to witness his hard shell exterior just melt away for his newfound family! I enjoyed your reaction! Thank you! ❤
Probably the best reaction to this i filmed i have watched! Truly honest and genuine! You as a woman of color understand the downfall of people who can't get past there racism. But as you said, Walt came around and showed his true heart he was hiding! Thanks for a beautiful reaction....As a few others have said the Clint Eastwood film, Million Dollar Baby, will probably get to you too! A film i believe you will enjoy.
New seen your reactions before - really enjoyed how sharp where you were about picking up on all the subtleties of the film - much more than I did the first time - would really enjoy you watching and reacting to OPEN RANGE with Kostner - know you will love it. Keep up the good work!
Walt was attempting to earn his redemption by being the father to Thao that he failed to be for his own boys while simultaneously making amends for the things he did in war that he wasn't ordered to do.
Very true Kahla on what you said about the older tougher generation. There was a time when you could do the "friendly insults and zings, and Banter, now you just have to keep it in your circle of friends. In my circle of friends guys like Walt were are fathers and uncles. always loyal, dependable, and big hearts. Most of my friends are the same way.
To this day I still can't figure out if Thao was being intentionally funny with that "boy my ass hurts" comment at the Barber shop, or really just had no idea what to say and was just spouting words 😂😂
Wow! Amazing reaction. Thank you for uploading that. I grew up with "old" people too and they all talked to each other that way. Somehow they were way less offended by each other back then. Almost like they were vaccinated against stupid. And somehow they survived with each other better than we do today. Love & respect. I sub'ed right a way. Thanks!
This movie is a great example of the idea that there is a subtle difference between racism, bigotry, and prejudice. While they can be the same they can also be different. My Father was in the Korean War in the early 1950s, he grew up in Los Angeles and Dallas in the 1930s and 1940s, and he had definite prejudices/biases from the era and from his experiences growing up and from the Korean War. I look back at him as kind of our Archie Bunker growing up but smarter, LOL. Whatever his initial biases, you would have no better friend or defender if you were a decent person. He started us in the Big Brothers of America in my younger years and for many years, we had two African American kids from the inner city who would stay with us on our small ranch on weekends and sometimes several weeks during the summertime. Our family became very close, not only to the two kids but to their whole family. My point being, like this movie shows, people are much more complex than initial labels they may be initially defined as.
Hi Kahla - love your reactions - if you'd care to do another elderly Clint Eastwood movie that'll probably bring you to tears .... "True Crime" also has Clint as Director and lead actor. Doesn't get as much attention - but it is compelling and almost auto-biographical for Clint, who plays a character who is skilled in his Profession, but poor in his marriages/family life
Another Clint Eastwood movie, starring in and directing, that is equally hitting all the emotions, and won several Academy Awards is: "Million Dollar Baby". Really a great, great film. (and have the tissues handy for that one as well)
I highly recommend 'First Man' (2019). It's a biographical drama about Neil Armstrong. Or if you're after another Clint Eastwood directed film, 'Letters from Iwo Jima'
Grew up the old ways and all rubbed off on me. Some of my workers think im a bastard sometimes but they dont realize Im actually helping them , They always see it in the end though ether become great workers or great friends :)
My beautiful Kahla 😍 loved your reaction if you liked this one you are going to love (2004) Million Dollar Baby with Clint Eastwood, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman. Another great film you should do is (1995) Leaving Las Vegas with Nicholas Cage and Elisabeth Shue you will need tissues for both of these. 👌🏼🙏🏼✌🏼♥️
You definitely have to check out more Clint Eastwood films. I'm going to give you six or seven of them. The first three dirty Harry movies. That came out in the early to mid 1970s. Also from around that time. High plains drifter, the outlaw Josie Wales and Pale Rider. Also a rare comedy that he starred in around 1977-78. Every witch Way but loose. Happy New Year to you and yours.
Walt was a racist. Period. But and here is the big but when he interacted with the Hmong people he saw into their lives they became more than an epithet they endeared themselves to him and him to them. Sure he was still the same gruff, cranky old bastard he always was but his heart had fundamentally changed.
I tend to prefer male reactors because I am especially touched whenever men freely emote despite a lifetime of being socialized not to do so---and certainly not to the point of shedding tears. You, however, are the exception that proves the rule. I always enjoy the authenticity of your reactions and the openhearted way that you relate to the characters---even the ones like Walt who, at first glance, might be hard to love.
I've watched this movie multiple times, I knew the ending, but it got me again. I think what caught most people off guard is the fact that this is Clint Eastwood. He's the Man With No Name, the gunslinger, and in this movie his character was a veteran and very hands-on, he stood on business, so we all made that same assumption: this being Clint, he's gonna SMOKE those mfs and die in a blaze of glory. Nope, he sacrifices himself to be a good example for Thao, to show him you have to break the cycle of violence and do things the right way instead. I believe Walt could've gone Terminator mode on them, but he chose not to because he didn't want Thao to live on thinking that's how you solve your problems.
I’ve heard of people keeping service weapons, mostly from older conflicts. It’s possible there was different policies at the time he served, or he simply bought the same model of weapon later on.
32:47-You're not the first to shed tears for this movie...And you won't be the last. Back in the 70's when Clint wsd doing tough-guy and western roles I never thought he'd become the actor/director he did. By the way, that Gran Torino's worth about 50 to 70,000 at auction today. Big, fast, tough, agile for it's size and comfy enough to drive cross-country."Million Dollar Baby" next? ( Keep tissue handy)
Greater love hath no man than this, to lay down his own life for his friends. What a redemption story this is! I saw this in the theater, and it was the last movie I would call great. Story telling like this isn’t done anymore.
Great reaction ❤❤❤ I just became a fan of yours. I was a bad kid growing up. When I went school they had 1 white kids and I was one of them. When I made friends with the black kids they always had my back. I was almost in a gang but my black friends stopped me. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hidden lore for this movie is that the reason he went out that way is because not only of his terminal illness and because it was a foolproof way to get rid of the gang but because it resembles a military firing squad because of the comment he made to the priest about the things that you're not ordered to do that haunt a man during service meaning he did something irredeemable and worthy in his mind of death by firing squad which we will find out later in the movie when he locks tao in the basement that he killed an underage combatant that was around 13 years of age that was trying to surrender
I can be a grumpy old man. I know it. I don't mean to be one. That side of me slips out from time to time. I've been lucky enough to have good people in my life who gave me a chance.
Walt truly won. He was dying, and probably didn't want to die a slow death, he wanted to be with his wife again... this was the only way to save Thao and Sue, and he finally felt like he could atone for some of the bad things in the war.... Great movie. Great reaction. Thank you. ❤
It was the thing to do. dying, probably cancer, saving an entire family (and his dog, can't forget about the dog)
Eastwood is a master film maker.
You're one of the few reviewers I have seen who truly got Walt and his generation. Gruff and tough on the exterior but caring on the inside.
Your sensitive reaction to the whole movie shows you have a good heart.
Walt's true confession wasn't in church. It was to Thao behind the basement door. :(
And you notice how, when Walt is confessing to Thao, the door screen looks like a confessional partition ;)
@@The_Zharan_Colonel True!
Have fellowship with one another, confess your sins to one another, pray for one another so you may be healed. That is church.❤
That is true. That dialogue was great.
It's OK Kahla
It broke me too
I cried so hard at the end

Clint is responsible for so many good movies
Love how passionate you are with what happened. I work as a nurse with oold people and they always see the best in you and want to do the best for you. As long as you be straight and honest, respect the people around you. This movie shows it all
dont be ashamed of crying, you are human and a person. be who you are, it is the most beautiful a person can be!
I knew you were in trouble at the start when you said you knew older generation that was crusty outside but caring and honorable underneath!😂 subbed off your good heart alone!❤😊👍
I was raised by men like Walt. This movie brings tears every time. Beautiful reaction. Thank you.

When he's sitting in their house eating their food and realizes he likes them better than his own family.
Powerful movie with a lot of lessons. At the end his friend got the car and his dog , he deserve it Great movie on so many levels.
This is my introduction to you, and one of my favorite movies.
Loved it. Subscribed... and looking forward to more.

I absolutely love this movie. Thank you for reacting to it, Kahla..
Thank You Kahla, Another Great Reaction! ❤
Loved your reaction, please don't suppress your feelings, shedding tears is necessary for our souls.
Yea, this movie got me too, Walt as good at heart. Enjoyed your reaction Kahla!

Classic Clint, you did a great job. 👍🙏🌹
Loved the reaction, we all struggle , but where there is unity there is strengh
Yeah I've watched this movie 100+ times and it still feels real. I never cry, but this movie still makes me cry sometimes. It's a special movie.
Eastwood knows how to do a movie, for sure! Beautiful reaction.

Loved this reaction. It gets me in the feels every time!!!
My dad and half dozen uncles were all WW2 vets, this reminds me of them. We all need some Walt in our lives.
That's a keeper, isn't it? So much food for thought in this movie. I enjoyed rewatchng this one with you, Kahla. Thanks for sharing it.
Seen this movie at least two dozen times.....I cry every time. That's Clint at his best.
Stumbled across this by accident as I am a huge Clint Eastwood fan. Loved your reaction and outlook on the movie. I look forward to seeing more of your reactions (also, it doesn't hurt that you're absolutely gorgeous to boot).

He had terminal cancer so he wanted to make peace with God and leave this world doing a good deed.
This is one of the best reactions of this movie and I have seen a TON of reactions ( really good ones too ) of this film. LOVE that it hit ya!!!
What a beautiful reaction. My personal favorite Clint film. 💕
To this day I still can't figure out if Thao was being intentionally funny with that "boy my ass hurts" comment at the Barber shop, or really just had no idea what to say and was just spouting words 😂😂
You and your reactions are a tresure! Thanks
One of my favorite movies. Peace, Love!!

You crying to this movie got a thumbs up and a sub from me. 1st time visiting your channel and this movie gets me everytime.
2nd time with you. Great reaction to a great movie. Lovely and thank you!
At the end he sacrificed himself to safe Thao and his family and also because he was anyway terminally ill.
Sue is the bridge. Sometimes people just need a bridge. 😉❤️
Fantastic reaction!

Great reaction, sending love , your channel rocks!
Thank you ❤️
@kahlareacts
Greater love hath no man than he lady down his life for his friends. Walt definitely would known that verse.
I enjoyed your perspective.
You have to see Clint's last movie The Mule...it is great too.
Something not easily recognized. Walt gave his true confession to Thao.
Nice reaction.👍👍. Another great movie is Braveheart 1995 its a war/drama/love story.
Great Reaction Kahla !! Thank You
Beautiful reaction! ❤ty

your hair is gorgeous!
wonderful reaction
Some modern western films that are really good... The Homesman (tommy lee jones) and Hostiles (christian bale and wes studi)
God bless dear heart I loved this.😂❤ my heart
Life was a hardship, then I got a big button phone, and it was a joy.
Grew up the old ways and all rubbed off on me. Some of my workers think im a bastard sometimes but they dont realize Im actually helping them , They always see it in the end though ether become great workers or great friends :)
“Bronx Tale” is a moving film. You’d love it. Robert De Niro. I’ll watch your reaction to that one. Not many people know about this gem.
Walt knew the gang would never leave, so he took care of it
One always knows good people when you see them... Kahla... you are such a sweet person.
Jesus loves you
My beautiful Kahla 😍 loved your reaction if you liked this one you are going to love (2004) Million Dollar Baby with Clint Eastwood, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman.
If you like this type of movie, The Green Mile (Tom Hanks & Michael Clark Duncan) and The Last Samuri (Tom Cruise) are a must watch.
Great reaction, your a natural. Very good at catching the nuances of the characters. Have you watched Million Dollar Baby.
Walt was not a racist, racism is about deeds, not words. Great reaction!
Walt said racial epithets against everyone, even his friends.
thats simply not true. you dont need to physically inflict racism through actions in orde to be racist
@Dabighomiee I disagree with your comment 100%..Hate is a action..Never words or a thought ..
Racism & Tribalism are one in the same.
Walt was a racist. Period. But and here is the big but when he interacted with the Hmong people he saw into their lives they became more than an epithet they endeared themselves to him and him to them. this movie always gets me to cry
Million dollar baby is another good one of his with Morgan freeman as a supporting actor
My dad served for 20 years and so did I, they definitely don't let you kept your service rifle like Walt has.
I’ve heard of people keeping service weapons, mostly from older conflicts. It’s possible there was different policies at the time he served, or he simply bought the same model of weapon later on.
For something a little different: Every Which Way But Loose, the sequel, Any Which Way You Can and Heartbreak Ridge.
32:47-You're not the first to shed tears for this movie...And you won't be the last. One of the best character development movies ever.🤩
A movie that will make you CRY😭 "The Green Mile".
You should watch A.I Artificial intelligence from 2001. It had me crying by the end.
Bless your heart sweetie! Got me to!
"Every which way but loose"
Featuring; Clyde the orangutan and Clint Eastwood
Great reaction Kayla, just subscribed
Thanks for subbing! Welcome! ❤️
That was a very wise and beautiful reaction. Thanks and Godspeed
On the Waterfront (1954)
Blood Diamond
Two powerfully emotional movies .
This is a really good movie.I'm seventy one at this mentor just like it did you.
Worked with a Hmong truck driver when this movie came out, I asked how accurate it is to Hmong culture, and he said "very."
I can be a grumpy old man. I know it. I don't mean to be one. That side of me slips out from time to time. I've been lucky enough to have good people in my life who gave me a chance.
I love the song specifically made for this movie. It's brilliant. I hope you watched to the very end to listen to it.
I recommend Clint Eastwood's "Million Dollar Baby" as well. Bring tissues.
A Man Called Otto with Tom Hanks is a good one. Sad but not this sad.
