I just wanted to thank you. A week ago, I had no clue. I have been watching your videos for the last few days. I just took off in North Africa, flew fairly competently and landed in Gibraltar. You have taught me to fly in a week! I absolutely love this. Thank you.

Squirrel should have a world tour. Everyone asks him to go a certain place, he makes a flight plan, then flies round the world visiting all the suggested locations.
I’m so touched that you flew in my beloved home country, Thank you! I recommend flying around the drakensberg mountains near the border of the country Lesotho. There are some stunning mountain scenes there. Apologies for the atc, probably had a planned power cut (load shedding we call it.)
Thank you for that Squirrel, if you fly down this way again fly over Cape Point to Table Mountain and then over Robin Island (prison of Nelson Mandela) as a matter of interest. Regards from Stellenbosch (vineyard area you flew over).
Wow, I am very impressed with the scenery. I did my PPL out of FACT. The scenery is very accurate. The approach over Fisantakraal (FAFK) and Morningstar is true to the real approach.
I usually put on Squirrel videos when I have an anxiety attack. Quite literally calms me down in those moments to see and listen to this. I'm very lucky to be subscribed to this channel, if I'm honest
I tried to install onto my new MacBook but it didn’t want to know so I’m waiting patiently for all the new parts being delivered today to totally upgrade my desktop. I just can’t wait to get into this sim. The laptop got so hot that it was shutting down every time the plane was just about to take off, hahaha, it was crazy, I could have cooked eggs on the base of it.
Errr... it is flakey. If it all worked it would be a fascinating subject. For the foreseeable future, for IFR, I will stick to FSX and the fabulous Flight 1 GTN750. This will be great when the third party devs get a grip on things.
Very nice episode, can't wait to fly over SA when I get my hands on the sim... Echoing some other requests I'm seeing re: an IFR tutorial - I think a lot of gamers like myself (I first flew MSFS version 3.0 but haven't tried it in a very long time, so very out of the loop on sims) are surprised to see how much of flight is not hands-on control but rather setting things on the NAV computer and letting the plane "fly itself". An overview of how that works in general would be super useful to a lot of people, I think. Cheers!
Hey there! Loving your videos so far, really helpful to me. As a newbie I am struggling a lot with navigation and IFR/ILS basics but especially the autopilot in the Garmin 1000 planes. Could you maybe do a video where you explain how to set that up? The autopilot never seems to hold my selected altitude for me..
Thanks for the video Squirrel, I’d love to see another video down to Cape Town. You may have missed the city bowl, CBD and southern suburbs. When you were on approach and looked to your right at the mountain (Table Mountain), there is a much better view of the city and beaches. Regards from Cape Town. PS: FAOB is an air force base.
If Asobo work hard on this for the next couple years, fixing issue's/updating the world/adding aircraft & mission expansions etc. It could be the Flight Sim to end all Flight Sim's.
@@D25Bev There is always room to improvement. Photogrammetry of Europe and generally Bing map replaced with something more detailed. Doesn't change the fact that this game blew my mind, like nothing past decade.
What they managed to do in this sim is just amazing. This wiil change the future of all sims, imagine truck sim on this maps, or even a shooter why not... This technology, AI, procedural generation of... real world, will change the way we will play. Good job Microsoft!
Power idle is your friend when bleeding speed. I aim to be 95 at the initial fix, 90 at the intermediate fix, 85 at the final approach fix, 80 on short final, 75 at the threshold, power idle, 68 200' before the 1000' markers. This normally puts my on center-line, on the markers at an ideal speed for a gentle transition. Not sure if this will work in flight simulator, but I'll try it.
Really enjoying your MSFS tutorials. I can't find anyone making great content (but you!) when it comes to learning the flight sim ropes. I have a feeling this sim is getting many people into the hobby, given how sold out joysticks are pretty much everywhere!
Your setup tutorials made this sim for me ! Hotas settings are really dialed in now and smooth. Without vids i couldn't even take off without crashing immediately lol 😂
I wonder if manually changing the frequency was causing confusion. Normally, you select the freq from the menu and it changes your radios for you. Similarly with the Transponder, ATC sets your transponder if you are using the ATC window.
Hi Squirrel, I do have my hands on it and I am very much enjoying it. I got setup with my logitec attack3 (had to clean off the dust) and I have been flying around a bit. Which leads me to a question. Would it be possible to fill a bit of the gap that the tutorial left? Like how to fly IFR. What fuel mixture and prop control does and how to use it properly. Things like that.
Hey! Mixture controls the fuel pumped into the engine, no performance benefit besides saving fuel by leaning the mixture in flight. The prop lever controls the pitch of the prop. Essentially, prop full fine (forward) is used in slow flight (takeoff/landing in case of go-around), an prop full coarse (back) is used at higher speeds. It controls prop efficiency and provides high power overe a greater range of airspeed. To simplify, as you speed up, your prop won't create as much thrust, by twisting the prop blade, it maintains it's efficiency and maintains the same thrust until it is full coarse! (Hope that helps!)
@@MechanicalFalcon thanks, isn't it good to reduce mixture as you go higher up? Low air pressure means more volume of air needed to combust the same amount of fuel? I did notice that highish up your RPM increases when decreasing mixture from 100$
@@aapjeaaron Correct, it would kill the engine if you left it full rich. But yeah, it will not provide a performance boost if thats what you are after. If you slowly pull it back (in the sim) you may notice when the engine starts dying, it's a good way to know how far you can pull it back before it becomes an issue! in the PA44, as a rule of thumb we pull it to about 50%
Quality video as always Squirrel. Noticed the detail of the choice of reg, well done! Have you noticed that in FLC mode, the nose up/down functionality is inverted, basically nose down brings the target speed down, which brings the nose up... A bit annoying but not a big deal. Yes I am missing the full CHT/EGT monitoring for leaning in the G1000. And yes... ATC is full of bugs IRL, the fuel selector has a locking system that you need to pull to get to off...
I indeed have MSFS 2020 and i am loving it, for some reason i am having lots of fun flying the Cessna Caravan. The airliners arent very well optimized in the cockpit so its hard to enjoy because of the glass instruments in the cockpit. But having been a commercial aicraft only simulator pilot its kind of refreshing to try out VFR and good old props.
Hey love your videos. One thing I notice is after you land and look to contact ground is that you hold short of the HS line instead of beyond it. That may give controllers indigestion IRL since the protected area is the rwy to that line.
I've been leaving NAV markers on since the system likes to wait until the very last min to make the turns haha , rather than following the track . Its like waiting, waiting, waiting, ok finally! 😄
The rule to never use the word "Takeoff" except when giving and reading back takeoff clearance was put in place after the Tenerife disaster, where there was fog over the airport and a lot of confusion about where two 747s were within the airport premises. It remains to this day the air disaster with the highest death toll.
It's a game and a sim, If I can fly a plane in it then it's a game, the way this guy fly's a plane, it's a sim, I've already forgotten about them making my beautiful part of rural Wales look like a green Benidorm.
Wow, used to fly from FACT and scenery and airfield are SO realistic. Would be unusual to fly the ILS in a GA aircraft except for training. Most flights (commercial too) would use a visual approach which would be to head for the southern end of the Tygerberg hills and then left turn to line up for 19. GA routes visual for the distribution centre north of the field and then left turn and land...
It's not that well done I'm not impressed with Joburg but I did expect it to look the way it is also remember they only hand crafted Cape Town for South Africa
The long taxi is because overberg is a military runway used by mostly fighters, so it has a massive length for being in the middle of nowhere. Often from European countries and other nations for training and testing.
