Couple of things about Athens from an Athenian ;) 1. First, thanks for showcasing our city and airport(and Skiathos as well)! 2. As you climbed over the first mountain(you called it a hill), called Mount Hymettus, you flew over some the eastern suburbs, which are some of the priciest. 3. LGAT (or Hellenikon Airport as it's widely known), is not an active airport(it's actually abandoned) , as it got replaced by LGAV in 2001 (due to it nearing it's capacity, as it was also almost time for the 2004 Olympics, which really pushed other infrastructure projects forward as well, like the Athens Metro for example ). The old airport also housed several facilities for the 2004 Olympics (which were also abandoned like most other Olympic Facilities in Athens). Now it's scheduled to be demolished, so a new hotel, casino and metropolitan park can be built in it's location. 4. At 19:00, the park that you pointed out, is Antonis Tritsis Park. It's one of the biggest parks in Athens. You also probably flew over my house! 5. As a guy that studies, and works in tourism (would love to go and work at an airline, but it's kinda hard at the moment), we would love to have you here in Athens! We are famous for our hospitality and excellent tourism services. Also tourism is probably the most important industry in Greece, as it makes about a third of our GDP, and has taken a massive hit, for obvious reasons, so visiting us would help us tremendously! Thank you for flying over Athens and Greece, it helps me to understand the level of detail and accuracy of MFS. I can confirm the depiction of Athens is really accurate and the level of detail really high. I could always tell where you were flying, recognize streets and building. You flew above my home, the park you mentioned is the "Tritsis Park". Even when you left the city I could still recognize the roads and highways. Everything seems to be correct and accurate at such an extend that I think I could easily fly to any place in Greece just by following the roads... It's so amazing what Microsoft has achieved!

Thank you for posting this video. 👍 Just for you and those who will be watching, the name of the Skiathos airport is "Alexander Papadiamandis" (in Greek: Αλέξανδρος Παπαδιαμάντης). Papadiamandis was a Greek influential novelist, also a writer of short-stories and last, but certainly not least, a poet. He was born on March 4th, 1851 and died on January the 3rd, 1911. Needless to say that his birthplace was the island of Skiathos and the airport is named in his honour. Thank you. 😊
I've been to Skiathos and it's a proper hairy landing, you look out the window and all you see is water, right up until the touchdown. I gotta say the runway and surroundings looks identical, this tech is insane.
I seriously can’t take this anymore. I love your videos and how you explain your content. It’s unbelievable that this is still in development and this is what you get out of the box. Can you imagine in a year or 2 after 3rd party content comes out and Microsoft optimized the sim/game even more. If the flight model and flight dynamics is on pare, there’s no competition that can compete with this. Just purely stunning. I predict this will be the death Star for all other sim platforms. That’s just my opinion. 10 more days!

If you want a good way to test it out on your system, get Xbox Game Pass for PC. It is a good price for one month where you can test it as long as you want and if it didn't work out or not to your liking, then you only spent $1 (if you've never got Xbox Game Pass for PC before).
I’ve been to Skiathos personally. It’s a wonderful island with a very interesting airport. You can stand right at the back of the runway and actually feel the force from the jets as they start to takeoff. Fabulous little island.
I remember going to Athens back in 2014 and going to the acropolis and looking over the whole city, and seeing the sheer amount of buildings there is, this game is pretty much spot on, theyve done a really good job of it.

Skiathos is fantastic. The flight in is a real hoot, too. This approach was at the unpopulated end of the runway, the other approach takes you right over the town with an old windmill restaurant as a brilliant landmark.
The first 5 minutes or so trying to taxi really shows how much we need VR! I can't wait and I hope it is optimized enough to run well without needing an overpriced video card.
Good video squirrel When I flew to skiathos in 2001 they had the shortest runway in Europe!! Not sure if it has changed since then but the island is around 20 miles across by 25 miles in length and absolutely stunning (and now very expensive)
Wow Paul, you're killing me here! Skiathos is my all time favourite place (I go every year) and was fortunate enough to be there just a few weeks ago. The detail on the island from what I can see is fantastic though the airport itself is lacking a bit as the Bing Maps data is from before the end of 2018 when the airport ramp was extended, that huge hangar that you park up in front of is supposed to be the international terminal but it's only the little things in the grand scheme of things ;) Next time try coming in from the other direction as that is where everyone (myself included) get those "low landing" videos from ;) Thanks for covering this route, these will be the longest couple of days of my life...
I have never had any experience with aviation or flight sims before, but this series of microsoft fs has taught me so much about planes and flying - awesome game and video!
The atmospherics with this sim is so impressive, we are seeing things in a way we've never seen before in a home simulator. Look at how the clouds cast shadow upon the land, and those areas where the sun passes thru illuminating the ground and notably the 3d building structures with correct sun intensity and shadow detail. Its amazing This thing will look so good in VR
The name of the city you couldn't remember is Chalkida (or Chalkis). That bridge is a significant landmark and isn't quite right... but I'm nitpicking, the sim looks incredible. Thanks for showing it to us!
That was just WOW! having been to both Athens and Skiathos the level of detail is stunning. I'm off to Crete for my 16th visit near Chania in three weeks time, it would be interesting to see if the level of detail is as good there. Thank you for such a fab video, I think my investment in Xplane 11 over the past twelve months could be heading for redundancy.
At 14:26, you are talking about another airport in Athens. That is the old international Airport of Athens at 'Elliniko' district. Now it is abandoned and it is going to become a park with a bunch of skyscrapers, shopping malls and expensive hotels. At 19:08, this is 'Antonis Tritsis' park which is currently in bad condition because none is looking after it. The town you are referring to at 31:56 is called Chalkida.

At first it irritated me to take all of these spoilers, but as the days went by, I must admit that these videos became a daily dose of chills to wait until the 18th.
LGTT, or Tatoi airport, at the 22 min mark on the left side of the cockpit, was the airport were I took my PPL lessons IRL. Skiathos was the first airport were I landed solo, other than Tatoi. I can say with a certain authority, that for an out of the box sim, those guys making it, did an outstanding job!!!
At 22:07 you were fairly close to my home. When I was a kid I would watch the HAF cadets practice out of Tattoi air base. On your left. I lived on the mountain to the right. It looks spot on! I live in Los Angeles now, but wow, feels like I am there. Can’t wait to fly the sim. 🍻
I really liked the route that you took! I am not sure whether it's the fastest but definately very picturesque. You flew over (In this order) the popular mountain range of Hymettus, over the Parthenon which is in the middle of Athens, you followed the National highway (which connects most of the Greek mainland), you flew by Parnitha (which is the biggest mountain range in Athens) and Tatoi airport (which is at Parnitha's foothills), flew by the Marathon lake (Athens region's most important water reserve), over Oropos - Dilesi - Avlida beach (which are popular sea side destinations near Athens), over the bridge that connects the mainland to Euboea (the sea's current at that area changes direction every 6 hours!), Chalkida the biggest city in Euboea (Euboea is an island), flew by Dirfi (the tallest mountain in Euboea) and then landed on the beautiful island of Skiathos. There is a very fun/weird maybe even a little dangerous attraction next to the airport. You might have noticed a beach right before the landing strip and that is a very popular public beach with road access, that people go to watch planes land right above their heads (and yes all kinds of planes land there!) and get blown away by turbine exhausts (mostly at takeoff), while soaking in the sea under the bright sun. Crazy right?!?!?! You can find videos of this on youtube hehe
Great video, I had a holiday in Skiathos years ago, flew in an A318 I think, the landing is THE shortest I have ever experienced, I'm sure it will be a pleasent challenge for you, looking forward to you flying it in MS FS.

Being an Athenian I am utterly surprised and literally stunned by the fidelity of the scenery as it appeared, some 5,000ft above the ground. Too bad I wasn't there with you to give you a tour of the northern suburbs and the Olympic Sports Complex which has some big and spectacular structures, which I hope they have as close to reality it can be. Overall though, although I don;t know what the situation is at 1000ft or lower, where the details really latter, I can confidently say that this is a safe depiction for somebody if they want to fly VFR. With regards to Athens Airport, it IS a default scenery, and it's elementary as there is miserable representation of the highway that connects Athens to the airport which passes under the tarmac and the taxiways leading to the west runway something that simply, is not there, probably left for a third party developer. Overall though, I may be nagging a bit but definitely, what we see here is a PIECE OD ART!!!! ,
OBS,drivers and game is not optimised at all at this moment so don't worry about it squirrel. I expect a major patch at release for you beta players. I love your content and input mate and you really don't need to shorten your flights,even the boring parts are awsome. I've seen alot of flightsimmers trying this game and your my absolute favorite.
Landed many a time in that beautiful island " real life " .. Always landed the other way to be fair and had to stop at thesalonika to fuel up because of the size of the runway in skiathos.... beautiful I can't wait to get this game
When you started the video I was wondering if the weather was wrong because I knew that it was raining in Athens yesterday afternoon. Then you went across the clouds closing in and i was, wow, they got it right! Excellent video!
The visuals are just insane. This feels the most "next gen" that anything has been released in the last decade, definitely feels like it's pushing the boundaries.
Your videos are my favorites. You sound just like a friend of mine that visits Boston now and again. We run the pool tables non-stop whenever we team up. Anywho, if time permits - Van Nuys Airport (KVNY). One of the most iconic airports in California, USA. No one has ever done it. Would love to see what it looks like in FS20 as default.
You should fly to all the islands :) Corfu (fly over mouse island), Crete, Santorini, Lesbos, Mykanos etc. You could do a flight plan (island hopping series). I like the longer vids, you make it interesting, keep em coming

Beautiful graphics! Thanks for the vid! Btw, about OBS, iirc if gpu utilization goes above 95% you'll start losing frames due to rendering lag. However, I remember they fixed this in one of the recent major updates provided you run OBS as administrator. Hope that helps!
For concurrent/multi-threaded programming it's complex, and counter-intuitively may make performance worse if it's not done right or even if it's not a suitable task. It's why a lot of games and applications aren't truly optimised to take advantage of it. You have to worry about things like Cache Coherency, thread timing/misses/coherency and a whole lot more (such as the CPU Design), what can and can't be multi-threaded and tie that into the GPU's own pipeline. To say it can be the stuff of nightmares isn't an understatement. It's getting better but that's only because AMD forced the developers hands and now that the Xbox Series X and PS 5 actually have a decent CPU we'll start to see games being optimised for multi-threading. NextGen graphics cards are going to be an interesting battle between RDNA 2 and Ampere, especially since we know so little about how RNDA 2 will perform other than from what we've seen of the consoles. Might help make the prices more sane, especially as it's looking as AMD may actually have a card in the fight for a change especially with how nVidia is reacting from the rumours.
Excellent video. Talking about FPS I would have liked to see the FPS showing permanently on the screen, and, the actual fluctuations as the scenery changes! Xplane 11 and FSX are capable of this!
I have to say I was pretty bummed out by all the autogenerated buildings in Greece, but the geography still looks amazing so I don't mind that much. And yes, you flew over my house! Also of interest, that weather pattern that was to your west as you were flying over Chalcis was actually quite devastating and caused flooding and some deaths unfortunately in the area you flew over. Not saying that to be a drag, but just to showcase how well-rendered the live weather is.
Hats off to Asobo Studio. They're the Champions of Ultra-Scale game worlds. Even to this i play Fuel. Their Largest Game to scale at that time(2009) and it still has one of the largest game worlds to this day.

squirrel is recording in at least 1440p and i assume 4k so if you're playing at 1080p you'll get better performance

I have traveled to skopelos an island by ferry from skiathos, it’s not much less commercialised and has its strong original flare, wonderful place!

Wow Paul, you're killing me here! Skiathos is my all time favourite place (I go every year) and was fortunate enough to be there just a few weeks ago. The detail on the island from what I can see is fantastic though the airport itself is lacking a bit as the Bing Maps data is from before the end of 2018 when the airport ramp was extended, that huge hangar that you park up in front of is supposed to be the international terminal but it's only the little things in the grand scheme of things ;) Next time try coming in from the other direction as that is where everyone (myself included) get those "low landing" videos from ;) Thanks for covering this route, these will be the longest couple of days of my life...

The atmospherics with this sim is so impressive, we are seeing things in a way we've never seen before in a home simulator. Look at how the clouds cast shadow upon the land, and those areas where the sun passes thru illuminating the ground and notably the 3d building structures with correct sun intensity and shadow detail. Its amazing This thing will look so good in VR
The name of the city you couldn't remember is Chalkida (or Chalkis). That bridge is a significant landmark and isn't quite right... but I'm nitpicking, the sim looks incredible. Thanks for showing it to us!

That was just WOW! having been to both Athens and Skiathos the level of detail is stunning. I'm off to Crete for my 16th visit near Chania in three weeks time, it would be interesting to see if the level of detail is as good there. Thank you for such a fab video, I think my investment in Xplane 11 over the past twelve months could be heading for redundancy.

That landing is totally beautiful and very believable, this sim is really an amazing piece of technology
At 14:26, you are talking about another airport in Athens. That is the old international Airport of Athens at 'Elliniko' district. Now it is abandoned and it is going to become a park with a bunch of skyscrapers, shopping malls and expensive hotels. At 19:08, this is 'Antonis Tritsis' park which is currently in bad condition because none is looking after it. The town you are referring to at 31:56 is called Chalkida.
I could honestly sit and look at the scenery, listen to you saying "Look at that" for hours until the day I can fly myself

At first it irritated me to take all of these spoilers, but as the days went by, I must admit that these videos became a daily dose of chills to wait until the 18th.
LGTT, or Tatoi airport, at the 22 min mark on the left side of the cockpit, was the airport were I took my PPL lessons IRL. Skiathos was the first airport were I landed solo, other than Tatoi. I can say with a certain authority, that for an out of the box sim, those guys making it, did an outstanding job!!!

At 22:07 you were fairly close to my home. When I was a kid I would watch the HAF cadets practice out of Tattoi air base. On your left. I lived on the mountain to the right. It looks spot on! I live in Los Angeles now, but wow, feels like I am there. Can’t wait to fly the sim. 🍻

I really liked the route that you took! I am not sure whether it's the fastest but definately very picturesque. You flew over (In this order) the popular mountain range of Hymettus, over the Parthenon which is in the middle of Athens, you followed the National highway (which connects most of the Greek mainland), you flew by Parnitha (which is the biggest mountain range in Athens) and Tatoi airport (which is at Parnitha's foothills), flew by the Marathon lake (Athens region's most important water reserve), over Oropos - Dilesi - Avlida beach (which are popular sea side destinations near Athens), over the bridge that connects the mainland to Euboea (the sea's current at that area changes direction every 6 hours!), Chalkida the biggest city in Euboea (Euboea is an island), flew by Dirfi (the tallest mountain in Euboea) and then landed on the beautiful island of Skiathos. There is a very fun/weird maybe even a little dangerous attraction next to the airport. You might have noticed a beach right before the landing strip and that is a very popular public beach with road access, that people go to watch planes land right above their heads (and yes all kinds of planes land there!) and get blown away by turbine exhausts (mostly at takeoff), while soaking in the sea under the bright sun. Crazy right?!?!?! You can find videos of this on youtube hehe
Great video, I had a holiday in Skiathos years ago, flew in an A318 I think, the landing is THE shortest I have ever experienced, I'm sure it will be a pleasent challenge for you, looking forward to you flying it in MS FS.

That was just so amazingly beautiful
Being an Athenian I am utterly surprised and literally stunned by the fidelity of the scenery as it appeared, some 5,000ft above the ground. Too bad I wasn't there with you to give you a tour of the northern suburbs and the Olympic Sports Complex which has some big and spectacular structures, which I hope they have as close to reality it can be. Overall though, although I don;t know what the situation is at 1000ft or lower, where the details really latter, I can confidently say that this is a safe depiction for somebody if they want to fly VFR.
With regards to Athens Airport, it IS a default scenery, and it's elementary as there is miserable representation of the highway that connects Athens to the airport which passes under the tarmac and the taxiways leading to the west runway something that simply, is not there, probably left for a third party developer.
Overall though, I may be nagging a bit but definitely, what we see here is a PIECE OD ART!!!! ,

Always landed the other way to be fair and had to stop at thesalonika to fuel up because of the size of the runway in skiathos....

Anywho, if time permits - Van Nuys Airport (KVNY). One of the most iconic airports in California, USA. No one has ever done it. Would love to see what it looks like in FS20 as default.

You should fly to all the islands :) Corfu (fly over mouse island), Crete, Santorini, Lesbos, Mykanos etc. You could do a flight plan (island hopping series). I like the longer vids, you make it interesting, keep em coming

Beautiful graphics! Thanks for the vid! Btw, about OBS, iirc if gpu utilization goes above 95% you'll start losing frames due to rendering lag. However, I remember they fixed this in one of the recent major updates provided you run OBS as administrator. Hope that helps!
That flying was magnificent, not running over the dude after landing, not so much!
For concurrent/multi-threaded programming it's complex, and counter-intuitively may make performance worse if it's not done right or even if it's not a suitable task. It's why a lot of games and applications aren't truly optimised to take advantage of it. You have to worry about things like Cache Coherency, thread timing/misses/coherency and a whole lot more (such as the CPU Design), what can and can't be multi-threaded and tie that into the GPU's own pipeline. To say it can be the stuff of nightmares isn't an understatement. It's getting better but that's only because AMD forced the developers hands and now that the Xbox Series X and PS 5 actually have a decent CPU we'll start to see games being optimised for multi-threading.
NextGen graphics cards are going to be an interesting battle between RDNA 2 and Ampere, especially since we know so little about how RNDA 2 will perform other than from what we've seen of the consoles. Might help make the prices more sane, especially as it's looking as AMD may actually have a card in the fight for a change especially with how nVidia is reacting from the rumours.
Excellent video. Talking about FPS I would have liked to see the FPS showing permanently on the screen, and, the actual fluctuations as the scenery changes! Xplane 11 and FSX are capable of this!

I have to say I was pretty bummed out by all the autogenerated buildings in Greece, but the geography still looks amazing so I don't mind that much. And yes, you flew over my house!
Also of interest, that weather pattern that was to your west as you were flying over Chalcis was actually quite devastating and caused flooding and some deaths unfortunately in the area you flew over. Not saying that to be a drag, but just to showcase how well-rendered the live weather is.
Hats off to Asobo Studio. They're the Champions of Ultra-Scale game worlds. Even to this i play Fuel. Their Largest Game to scale at that time(2009) and it still has one of the largest game worlds to this day.
If Asobo gets the ATC and it's voices just as immersive and realistic as the lighting and weather, I will have a heart attack in excitement.
