- This is the Ending to Blue Shift on PC.
My first official PC recording. I look at it as a test and now i know some things not to do in the next PC recording I make.
This is a side story that happens to Calhoun, a security guard at the Black Mesa Facility. Calhoun's story happens at the same time as Gordon Freeman's Story.
4:47 isn't that the part where they capture Gordon and then you have to get your weapons back? on the original half life.
i think so yea
Yup it is
Wow, Barney Was the only one who got a happy ending...
Dyami Torres I know this is 5 years old but... Considering that after this the seven hour war happened and the likeliness that Barney has to endure witnessing and probably suffering the 20 years(I believe) of Combine rule may not make that much of a happy ending.
On the other hand, Gordon was basically asleep during those 20 years.
I have always loved that ending, just has such a great feeling to it. You really do feel like the whole residence cascade is real when playing that game, and you feel so relieved that you make it out at the end.
Fantastic job.
he still owes gordon that beer though
Look at 5:00, it's Gordons Crowbar.
Think it's cool 'cus in HL2 they give it back and say "you left it at Black Mesa"
Barney after Blue Shift: "Now, about that beer..gulp,gulp,gulp...ahhh--I earned that one".
I watched this 11 years ago, LOL
Leo Nardo crazy, isn't it. I feel old
He does appear in Episode 2, but only as a voice at the part of the game when you enter a concrete bunker and all the rebels are cheering you. He says "Well Done Gordon Freeman"
I wonder what happens when they drive out of Black Mesa. Do they get intercepted by government agents? Do the combine start attacking? Or do they go to some New Mexico diner to grab a few beers heh.
So Gman was looking into hiring Calhoun but failed because he was "out of range"?
makes you wonder how many survivors that weirdo with a briefcase detained in stasis till "their time came again"
I thought it was out of range from the nuclar blast of Opposing Force, but also could be out of range from G-man
awesome i love it how they all fit together
"Out of Range"
Does that mean that Barney somehow can resist G-Man's power?
Did you know that if you killed all the scientists you could without ending the game, then there is an alternate ending in which the team of scientists actually leave Calhoun behind? I fail to find this ending anywhere on the web...
Where did you find this information?
Maewgln Saw it with my very own eyes... I was not the one playing though but a friend of mine decided to kill all scientists that could be and the end was obviously altered.
oh, weird. I will try that :).. Thanks for the info.
Maewgln Keep me posted then please, I hope I was not hallucinating but I clearly remembered being astonished and seeing Dr Rosenberg's car leaving the character behind... Anyway :)
hahaha. I will. :)!
I like the fact that in one of the games u r gordon and the other game you are a soldier and a guard :D i just love these games!
Just finished the entire HL1 series yesterday, gonna go buy The Orange Box in a few days. Can't wait!
i like how the marines are moving gordon freeman in the hallway at the end i remember that from hl1 i beat them all :) NICE VID your pretty good at the game
wouldn't say the middle of half life but yup that appears to be the case. Love how they put all the games together too. IE Shepard arriving when the call, "Forget about Freeman" is made. Neat stuff.
That's happy ending, he is not g-man's slave in stasis as Gordon.
I don't know why, but I love the sound the teleporter makes.
I personaly think that opposing force is better
chill cookie
I agree. But I did enjoy Blue Shft, despite the lack of new aliens, bad guys and no cool weapons - Opposing force had really fantastic new weapons.
The Doctor Rosenberg* story was quite nice and the ending here is wonderfully upbeat - much better than a creepy weirdo in a blue suit detaining you at his leisure until he decides you've got to do more fighting...
*was this name a nod to the Soviet spies electrocuted in the 50s?
my favorite part of blue shift was the elevator at the beggining!
@armaxxx i just finished this now and i had the exact same thought! makes you realise how dark in tone the whole series is.
The other guy is Shephard and he worked for the military as part of the Black Mesa Infiltration Unit. For someone who hasn't played blue-shift, you got everything figured out.
Yeah they are in the credits, I was suprised to see that too.
Barney Calhoun is my favorite character from the Half-Life series and was pissed when he didn't show up in half-Life 2:Episode 2, but hopefully he'll be in Episode 3!
I love the Hal-Life Trilogy. All of it! I just never had the time to play all the others like Opposing Force and Half-Life Episode 1 & 2.
How come barney doesnt even say hi to gordon as he passes by at the beginning of Blue Shift but in HL2 he's suddenly his best friend xD
OH SUPER MARIO RPG MUSIC :D that game rocked and nice vid
Calhoun is an awesome name! I wouldn't mind keeping it
they should of made a expansion pack where you could play as the aliens
same here!! it's so AWESUME!
WE MADE IT MR CALHOUN WE MADE IT!
lol the way the teleporter messess up in this with calhoun reminds me of how the teleporter in the lab in hl2 messess up when ur gordon freeman
@MrHello2933 ok thanks, and for your other comment, calhoun didn't die in blue shift, he just teleported with the 2 or 3 other scientists to a safe place, and then it's unknown. but i was glad to see him again in half life 2:)
and blue shift was probably my favourite too, it was just a more special than special kind of feeling!
I love it when he sees gordon.
wow barney may think he has one hell of a day , but you should see cournel shepards day
The ending would be even better if the credits would appear when your sitting in the car and watching the rocks.
yeah it was Freeman, it's the part at the original HL where you get knocked out then you hear the conversation between 2 marines, that's the exact moment
No, you see him at the beginning, when you get off the train and hit the door to try and open it. You see him in his train, the one he was traveling with at the begining of the first game. Barney Calhoun is the guard that was knocking furiously at that door, the one you see from your train when you are Gordon.
The thing I go so lol about is that the "gordon getting dragged by human grunts" part. If you say thirdperson on console you will see that you are gordon freeman. Which is like lamo!
You're captured in halflife aswell... You hear the soldiers dragging you talk in halflife too, just as you wake up.. you however escape from the garbage compression thingy they throw you into
@mmX1995
This "mystery world" is Xen, you have to get the "lost" teleporter working in order to get out of the facility.
(It's story is a little complex, but the story as a whole makes sense)
@MindlessSelfGuitar Blue shift and opposing force are parallel story of Half-life story. They show what happen to Barney Calhoun and Adrian Sheperd.
half life, half life 2, half life 2: episode one, half life 2: episode 2 and the soon to come half life 2: episode 3 are parts of the story seen through the eyes of Gordon Freeman. Half Life blue shift is seen throught the eyes of Barney Calhoun and Half Life: opposing force is seen through the eyes of Adrian Sheppard. Its all the same story, just seen from different points of view. Gordon Freemans story is the main story btw.
In 4:42 is when the guards capture Freeman and throw him in the trash compactor, not after he talks with G-man.
Actually in HL2 Deathmatch, there are very little zombie co op servers where you can play as Barney, as well as Gman, Combine, the Female Assasin Combine, Breen, Mossman, Eli, Alyx, Gordon, and the default rebel characters. This concept involving Combine, Breen and the Rebels including Gordon, uniting to fight against Vorts, and zombies really is different to the story though.
at the start of half life on the tram you see the security guard banging on the door, well thats calhoun
Heh, i expected you'd meet the GMAN! xD
nice video. i wasnt planning on buying this so i watched the ending, mind telling me what you recorded it whit? fraps lags me even tough i have a good computer.
Was the soldiers holding Gordon Freeman? if it is then im going to freak out
Blue Shift starts some minutes before Half life 1 and ends when soldiers captures Freeman
That's right. In Half Life 1 when you're on the tram you can see a
police officer banging on a door. That's actually Barney (you) from
Blue-Shift and that's how the game starts.
Its actually interesting because Half-Life, Opposing Force, and Blueshift happen all at once and theres a neat little video about the paths the 3 characters took in Black Mesa.
I know this was almost a year a go, but can you link the video.
Both Shepard and Barney. I was surprised Barney wasn't in Episode 2 at all. But yes Shepard was definitely one of my favorite. Give him Point Man's abilities for melee combat from FEAR and Shepard would be badass. I believe the ship is called Borialis and no doubt has something from Xen I think.
Espero que alguien lo entienda.
En esos años 2009 2010, esta clase de videos me generaba un misterio y me daba mas fascinacion a los juegos en esos momentos. La mejor epoca de mi vida 😃
I like the idea of alternate half life stories, but I am so attached to the gordan freeman character that i hope valve sticks with him as their main man.
actually, the model for the guards is called "monster_barney," so all the guards are called barney. (The word "monster" was used for the name of the model because at first, when VALVe made them, they were supposed to attack Gordan, but instead, they made the "Barneys" assist him, so they could test their AI technology. (monster_barney was made after fictional character Barney Fife, only the Hλlf Life 1 barney.
Hλlf Life
Sinnohen
A road outside the base.
he also apears on a security camera not much later in the game.
And in the ending also [the guy who gets dragged away by the soldiers]
I hope Dr Rosenburg, Dr Cross and Dr Green survived the portal storms and the Seven Hour War. I hope they make a comeback in a HL game or add on in future!
Well, whenever you beat any half life game or die in a specific way, it says like "Subject Freeman: Cannot complete mission."
Since this is halfway through Half Life 1, Barney was "Out of range." meaning GMan (not here at the moment) picked him first.
If you ever played Half Life 1, you would know that Gordon was captured by the Marines but was tossed into a trash compactor.
Great Ending I like to much this Game. And when you Gordon with the Enemy That was so cool
This Ending Rocks!
Barney Calhoun is his name. So yeah it is the same Barney that helps out Gordan Freeman in HL2.
Dragging Gordon to the waste compacter.
Sounds about right.
Barney calhoun escapes from black mesa, and he lives and then combine are attacking earth, and he became a rebel and a undercover agent. Gordon was in a time thingie, but gman did wake him up and gman send him back to earth.
Shephard is still in such a time thingie, i guess we will see in half life 2 episode 3 what will happen to shephard
You go through the portal two times, first you arrive on Xen, then this is the second one.
Gearbox is an independent company and at the time I don't think they were part of valve but I could be wrong. Blue shift came out after opposing force though, I'm sure of that.
Man poor freeman barney escaped while freeman is trapped :(
At least some scientists made it out.. I wonder if they all joined the resistance like Barney.
@Jm0n3yba9s Gabe Newell of Valve has said long ago that he thinks of Episodes 1, 2 and whenever it's released, 3, to be an episodical sequel to Half Life 2.
His name is Baney , Calhoun is the last name of him ...
Poor Gordon. He's Messed up so bad.
@GizmoFilmz yes that is gordan cause after he talked with G-man at the end of hl1 he went back to black mesa and was knocked out and they brought him away plotting hl2
look at that scientist with the crowbar :P
I find this the best ending from any half life game.
@GizmoFilmz yes, If you ever played the whole half life game, you would know that in a cutsence, gordan gets nocked out, and is being dragged to a trash crusing machine, and the rest is for you to find out, but anyway, yes it is gorden
It is Barney... The doctors merely call him by has lastname, and yes it is the same Barney is in HL2
Alright like I said I didn't know for sure. thanks for the info.
If you played Half Life 2, Barney is the guy that gives you the crowbar in the beginning saying "You dropped this back at Black Mesa." Now we know where Barney found the crowbar. hehe
I never understdood how Gordon Freeman escaped after he got caught
If you played Half-Life or Black Mesa: Source, then you would know who that is. Yes, it is Gordon Freeman in his suit. Gordon went into a dark room and got knocked out by those 2 soldiers. Then the screen goes black and you hear them talk and see your feet being dragged away. I don't think they added the part on seeing Barney because Half-Life came out first.
Out of the first ones, it's definitely the most balanced. Blue Shift is pretty cool though. HL1 gets too hard in the final chapter, even on Easy. I don't even know how I managed to defeat that huge baby-alien or whatever. :))
He makes a cameo at the start, going past in the same sort of tram as Gordon. He doesn't speak to you and this is his only known appearance.
most likely my gmail notifier or a instant messenger lol. thats what sucked about using fraps. gotta make sure that you close or disable any programs that make sounds.
half life 1 +it's expensions were awsome
shame i haven't got them anymore
Dang, I was just mentioning that perhaps this guy and Barney are the same person. Now all this other stuff is coming up.

For anyone still blurry on the HL storyline. Sorry, but I had to bypass the html filter.
It was pretty sad that this game was so short. They could have had a better ending like that last two games. For instance...
(after 3 random teleportations)
(Calhoun ends up in Xen and verses giant alien, finds last teleport.) Game resumes up to the leaving of the car scene)
That would have worked fine in my opinion.
about the closest thing to a happy ending in the series...
GORDON FREEMAN RULES!
He makes it if you are fast enough while playing Half Life 1.
One thing I'll do from now on when recording with Fraps is to close out all my messenger programs like x-fire and Yahoo. The freakin sounds from people logging in and out were recorded onto the video =(
@MarioDude87 One of the scientists probably used his crowbar since he got knocked out.
Well lucky Barney he has a happy ending
yeah that was gordon they were dragging
GOD DAMN BARNEY!HE LET HIS BEST BEER DRINKING FRIEND FOR FREEDOM?!?!?HE AIN'T A GOOD FRIEND!
mabey again i dont know half life 1 leaves most in the fog but there is a book called halflife 2 raising the bars and it explains a whole lot
Way to look at it optimistically :)
Thanks :D
Half life 1 is the best, there are a few scenes in blue shift that are from half life when like when Gordon Freeman gets captured. Its brilliant.
