Good stuff guys....I marched in FAMU’s band playing clarinet....We played Jackson State every so often and I use to marvel at the J-Settes....After graduating FAMU, I moved to Atlanta and I use to J-Sette against in the black gay clubs in the early 2000’s...I was in some FIERCE battles in clubs like The Palace and Traxx in Atlanta.....You have to be in shape to do those long ass battles against another squad.....The House music that was played would give some serious beats....Either you were Voguing or J-Setting.....those days are priceless for me......
Hmmm, I been living in Jackson MS for almost forty years. I could’ve swore jsetting originated here in the 70s...especially since Jackson State is known for the Prancing J Settes
I’m originally from Mississippi and u right what they were doing we gays were doing in the 90s not to take away from them but j setting started in jackson and spreader all over the south like now here in Charlotte the gays are into cheering more than j setting
Exactly, its 2021 ... J-Setting originated in Jackson, MS in the late 80’s. J-Setting is nothing new, it just became more popular during the early 2000s and even more popular now.
I don't think you listened. He gave J-Settes and Jackson MS their credit. But as far as the underground culture of it. Atlanta hands down. Even the male teams from Jackson danced in Atlanta. Atlanta is where all the teams from around the country come to compete. It's a safer space than a Jackson MS.
I think this may be the first dance where there aren't any traditionally male and female moves. I know there is a lot of crossover these days, but it is nice that there is one, where it's built in. As people we can all move the same way and it's more about what that move does to you, I guess. Not how others interpret it.

Give the J-settes their credit!!!! They created it not southern HBCU’s. The gay men in Jackson made it popular outside of the band and football games.

it's such an amazing yet harsh reality that the athleticism of black gay men and trans women enables them to do SO MUCH MORE than OG female j-settes.
