It’s so wild because I coach middle schoolers and I’m legally mandated to report these behaviors. Colleen is 12 years older than me and I literally can’t imagine hanging out with children and leaning on them for emotional support, like what does this say about her mental state?

So accurate. My best friend is my little brother, he’s 13, we are ten years apart, we hang and chat and play video games and stuff but my god I do not EVER lean on him for emotional support. Very much the opposite, because he’s the child, and I’m the adult. That is the direction emotional support is meant to go. I would never expect him to shoulder the burden of my adult issues!

21:36, I used to work in CPS. A common method that abusers of that nature will begin the grooming and abuse process is by desensitizing the victim to those acts through showing them such materials. There are many, many, many, many instances in which an adult or parent exposes a child to explicit material such as that. It is extremely common, it is highly damaging to the child (the IRB, which is the board that academics have to go in front of to present their research in order to ensure they aren't doing immoral or unethical research studies, usually won't approve studies that revolve around exposing ADULTS to explicit material of that nature because research has shown time and time again how harmful it is and you can't do research when you know for a fact that the exposure of interest will do harm to the participant), it is a form of abuse, and if you are aware that it is occurring in any capacity and you're an adult in the United States, you are obligated to report such behavior.

I think he’s wrong. She didn’t say she was immature and inappropriate with her “fans”, she said she was immature and inappropriate with her “humor”. They’re not the same thing, and she’s guilty of BOTH. She wasn’t merely thoughtless in her interactions with her fans, she was immature and inappropriate with them, offstage, privately. And she never quite acknowledges that. It’s so frustrating. She is still downplaying what she actually did and the fact she facilitated her brother’s access to minors knowing he’s been highly inappropriate with even one of them.

I'm pretty sure therapists have to be unbiased, so their therapist in question might not even know that she is a huge internet personality. If they do, they might not watch their content or consume any content related to her, because that would make the therapist biased in their treatment of Colleen. So Colleen is most likely lying, making herself look good in front of their therapist, and then not listening to the good advice their therapist tells them.
It's important to remember this: Colleen Ballinger is a NARCISSIST. She thinks so highly of herself. That kind of person HAS to want to change, and the fact stands that Colleen wants NO accountability for her actions.

I mean, not really. What she did was more so cultivate an incredibly personal and one sided parasocial relationship that she'd take advantage of for free labour, you know, one of the larger, more egregious acts of manipulation she engaged in, which is how Adam talked about it. But, you know, not looking into the actual details of the event someone's supposed to be apologising for will do that.
The type of garment sent is kind of basically inconsequential, and I'm pretty sure people only latch onto the lingerie is because of the implications, both in sexual grooming, and with what the therapist kind of just slapped onto the situation without much forethought.

20:41 from his psychology perspective this is like (a kid sees their parents on the couch watching an adult film on tv - it’s an oops moment. Or a kid going to a home computer/laptop and seeing a random tab which is a bit too adult for them. Again accidental exposure.)
(or a kid witnessing their own parent nude say if they’re parents take off their clothes and walk nude/semi unclothed through the house - that’s a choice by the parents who may be doing something else- had a stain/took a shower/was hot inside the house so they took off a shirt- it’s a moment of exposure but it happened because of an activity or accident. Someone splitting their pants is an accident and also exposure and it’s understood 9/10 times and unintentional. )
All of which expose the kids to nudity and to adult bodies ::: this is not intentional sexualization of the children or adults to interact… and not for the purpose of exposing children to adults bodies/adult content -
it’s daily life as a human being which includes nude bodies - and this kind of exposes a kid because kids are still learning. So it can influence ‘oh this is normals/socially acceptable/standard/what adults do/what people do.’ -> but it’s not done with the intention of say grooming a child or intention to manipulate a child or intention to sexualized the child.
(It’s also key to not with psychology how wealth does influence stuff like this: People with little water may share a bath or shower it’s weird but for really little kids who can drown alone sometimes this is a necessity to both keep kids alive and keep kids clean- we also know that it’s not designed to be sexualized it’s bathing and something every human has to do- we also know from legal experiences that some individuals can/will sexually assault family members and ‘bath time’ when they are isolated and alone is a frequent moment where sexual misconduct can take place. // this is similar to locker rooms - getting changed is a standard thing all humans will have to do and do so in shared semi-public spaces - there’s still ways to be appropriate and inappropriate and ways to be average with getting changed vs perverted. And also how certain individuals in locker rooms will use the isolation/remote location to do things/actions that are inappropriate -locker room talk/locker room attitude and behavior and how there’s normal ‘just joking around’ and ‘extreme violence’ )
    --
There’s other parents who are thinking sex ed - teaching kids/having kids learn or be mature- involves showing adult content to understand or doing something explicit as a way to teach or tease. So say a parent being overly sexual of their own body ‘saying their hot look at their xxx’ to make fun of their child for being in a child body. Or adults showing kids explicit things say movies/tv/film/books/photos/straight up pornography.
(There’s a lot of really shitty parents who were raised in the 40-80s and to today - that probably thought ‘hey they’re learning to be adult/what a kiss is or a boy/girlfriend/they’re wanking - time for the ‘you’re an adult convo’ which can go so so so bad so fast. And with the internet a lot of parents thought it was normal to be like ‘see this ad don’t click it it’s porn’ or ‘this is an adult website don’t ever use them’ or ‘this is an adult website which won’t give the computer a virus if you use anything - that.’ There’s billions of people on the planet there’s a ton of horror stories and ‘I can’t believe my parent thought that was a good idea/normal/straight up abuse’

Up there for one of the worst imo is Dr. Todd Grande. Agree about Dr Grande, the first content on his channel is so different to what he does today and the way that he churns out content he only does very surface research about a person.
Apparently his degrees are Master's of Science in Community Counseling from Wilmington University and a Ph. D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Regent University. His certifications are Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health (LPCMH) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional (LCDP) in the State of Delaware and is a National Certified Counselor (NCC)
So yes a very different vibe than what he implies by what he says

I’d actually love a TRUE analysis on this dr, but I feel like yall would get lynched or something, 😅everyone always acts like dr Hondas word is gospel and I think he often misses the point because he’s always trying to be positive even with the worst types of people, that he misses the parts that are truly malicious , I sometimes wonder if he does it to be professional or he just doesn’t see it ? . I often feel like I’m watching a different clip than he is 😅. I had to stop watching his analysis of “90 day fiance” problematic characters because it was honestly Frustrating af to me. He also often misses important context like the edited part of Colleen’s “apology” , where she edits out asking Adam about the lingerie. It’s like he is kinda naive imo

Kinda weird for yal to turn off comments on the Leftovers highlight clip - so I'll post my comment here instead. Rip, a great podcast - but mental health is important too. Just wish you both weren't so stubborn. Half the time, it was like yal listened to the other person to simply respond back/argue and were often going in circles. Early episodes were solid. But at any rate, was glad for the time yal gave us during the pandemic. Yal helped a lot during those years. I'll miss it.

As a an avid H3 fan as well as a Psychology in Seattle fan, if ya'll don't know, Dr. Kirk Honda is perhaps the most "give benefit of the doubt" person out there. That's just who he is and it is what makes him a good therapist. He's like the complete opposite of someone like Kati Morton. However, he hasn't really covered this case properly and it's very obvious he hasn't. However, I'm 90% sure he would still give her benefit of the doubt, the only thing that would change is he could be more insightful about the transgressions themselves. I highly advice checking out his content still, he does great work when it comes to in display interpersonal interactions and models for his audience better communication.

i was thinking the same thing- then i thought about how james charles admitted but nothing happened bc the victims never pressed charges. it seems like these ppl are untouchable if the victims don’t take direct action /: which is sad ALTHOUGH in this case, i feel as if the victims WOULD (basing this on how strongly they feel- i’ve watched adam for years) and that is why she is avoiding it. just my opinion. at the bare minimum- this sucks and she needs to reach out directly to them and even if she doesn’t straight up admit to things- at least give them a *personal* half-ass apology lol

It’s hard to accept an apology from her at all when you know she didn’t actually reach out to any of the people her actions hurt. She posted that clip at the beginning of a vlog, like it didn’t even deserve its own video. She’s a mom now, you would think she would have some actual empathy for not only Adam and Becky and Oliver, but also their parents! Imagine a content creator did or allowed half of what she allowed to any of her children, she would be so upset. To be clear I’m not in any way saying I want that to happen to them, but I’m saying she should put herself in the perspective of not only the people she hurt but their parents too, I mean, all of their parents trusted Colleen to a certain extent, and she broke that trust. Apology not accepted Colleen, until you can apologize to the actual people and families that you hurt and actually say what you did wrong.

Colleen is just as insincere as she was before and no one should fully believe her words, moreso her actions MORE THAN EVER. And what really pisses me off is she's using her motherly duties as an escape goat to really be sorry for her actions. Those babies didn't do anything. They don't deserve that.

When he says “hard to know” it’s frustrating cuz it’s only hard to know if you have no context about Colleen and her actions over the years. When most people goof like this, their fans straighten them out and they apologize and do the work. Kirk, enabled by his subscribers doubles down, refuses to do the work but insists on continuing these reactions. There’s way too much info out there to be this ignorant about Colleen. Some level of skepticism would really elevate his videos. This insistence on “everyone is well-intentioned” is fucked.

Imo there is no point in public apologies because its about the person receiving the apology, but you need to hear the person to know where you hurt them before you can learn and apologise. Just meet the people you hurt then acknowledge your conversation and attempt for growth to the wider public later.

The apology at thr beginning of her vlog was her attempt at an apology. Observe did an excellent look at her body language in the recent Colleen apology and I agree with what he saw. She wasn't sincere and was not apologizing to anyone but those who still follow her. The way she did it was how an adult apologizes to a child. Real vague because kids domet care about details. I'm top of she turned it into a I'm a victim just raising my kids. Which by the way if truly sorry she would actually apologize to the actual victims, take the stupid train video down, take some accountability for her actions. And last wouldn't be putting her kids back online because instead of now exploiting young fans she's exploiting her own kids. Its sad and sick. RUclips and other platforms that you can profit on should stop allowing people to use kids for profit period. Stop monetizing family vloggers especially with young kids who have no say in it. Older kids it depends on the kid but still not a good idea.
