Agreed. Love this guy. I came across this video randomly and I'm glad I did. I was actually just bumpin one of my favorite songs by Mos Def called Mathematics this morning, then I saw this and it made me remember/realize something helpful that relates to how ive been feeling about the discourse around a certain well known beef. Something has been really bugging me since the Drake and Kendrick beef happened. Ive never liked Drake or any of the god awful, shallow, disingenuous, uninspired, corporate manufactured, lowest common denominator bullshit "music" that he shamefully tries to call/pass off as hip-hop. I'll never understand how anyone besides privileged teenage white girls could genuinely appreciate that garbage and I've been saying all of this for well over a decade now since day one and other than a few exceptions like Mos Def I was always hard-pressed to find people who agreed with me. So I find it irritating and extremely hypocritical how now that its a popular and socially expedient opinion to have all of a sudden everyone just immediately changed their tune to disingenuously hop on the bandwagon. If you disagree or don't believe me then just check out the VERY different response that the industry/fans had to Mos-Def for speaking the truth and being even mildly critical of Drake and his music. It was no more than a few weeks before the beef with Kendrick and the response was COMPLETELY inconsistent with the way everyone is talking/acting now. So thank you Yassin Bey for having integrity and consistently speaking the truth and not just when it isn't easy/popular/simple/expedient to do so.
I wish he made more music and the music he has is more accessible
