    FYI
200 series cruiser was on 12 psi and camper at 16 psi when it got bogged.
FJ cruiser was on 10 psi all the time.
    200 series and camper = 5.500kg
    FJ cruiser = 2000kg
combine this with soft sand and up a hill. (it wasn't going to happen but thought we give it a go anyway.)
When winching 200 series and camper ,aired tyres down to 8 psi all round (camper included).
As for the campboss recovery gear, it was all band new never been used before.
It was the band new campboss soft shackel the gave up.

A little hint to the Patrol trayback, Older Patrol wagon, and Troopie... if you can't easily get moving on your own, you will NEVER be able to get enough momentum to strap someone else out. 10 points for enthusiasm though LOL. Admittedly the Troopie was doing well at first... but should have never tried to strap out the Prado before realising the Prado drive didn't know how to strap out.

No expert but if that were me towing that trailer in hellish conditions I’d whack a hub set up on the draw bar with a spare wheel. In sections like that at least you could unhitch, drive up and winch the trailer. With a couple of winch extension straps you’d be out in no time - saves the sort of forces you see here that could wreck your chassis. I don’t let anyone snatch me unless I’m desperate......and I wouldn’t be desperate enough here.

@@chrisandshazza01 ..This was a recipe for disaster from the get go. I was originally thinking his tyres were too low, but if he had them at 12 and the camper at 16, that was a reasonable assumption that it would be ok. However, after he was towed to harder ground, he was seen letting his tyres down even more, before he continued (successfully) on his way. That snatch strap HAD to give in though. I don't think they were meant to do that.(sorry, the Soft shackle) .I must remember that. I plan on going up there in the not too distant future. I'd probably go to 6 at the rocks. I know !!...it's always easy to be wise AFTER the event. That's why I watch these....to learn.

The only type of recovery I'd do here is to winch people back towards the bottom and set their tyre pressures right. What's the point of dragging them all the way up? They have to come back this way to go home too. So what? They just wait around for someone to drag them all the way back too?
If you set their tyres to 5psi and they somehow still can't drive it it's probably better they don't keep going.

Yep..another CAMPBOSS heading for the CAMPFIRE!!🔥😠
Anyone know if that was a 8t or 14t recovery rope or...another soft shackle?? (looks like its black..so guessing it's their big heavy 14T rope..but exceeding the 14t load??)
Should put all of these in a CAMPbox and send them back to CAMP Jase at All 4 Adventure in his own gift pack since this is the 5th I've seen let go now in less than 2 years!! (clarification: 2 had been worked bit hard by TLC79 Pplaters, 1 used, 2 brand newies, stored 1.3yrs, all went at tow-ee end not tow-er)
Had a borrowed 8t Campboss snap at Lancelin WA, then less than 6months later I had a BRAND NEW 14t got for my birthday and shakle let go on me up in Carnarvon..at the same time Im telling all the crew how good this gear is..idiot! YET, seen one used in towing a loaded road train months ago no issues! Anyone else??

ummm. the soft shackle let go not the rope by the looks.
and most likely because it was used on a recovery point with straight cut corners not rounded.

The easiest and best way in the sand is to make the (tire pressure PSi) 15PSI, and the car will run easily and without damage to the engine and gearbox, in the long run.

yeah i agree. It is a notorious section even with 10psi but towing makes it near impossible. i saw the 4WD action guys having trouble when they went through.

Trying to snatch uphill when you can barely get yourself moving up hill.. genius. Didn't see one person in the whole video letting some more air out of their tyres. Make up a sign. "Let your tyres down to 15psi before attemping. If you don't get up first go - reverse back before you bog yourself completely, reduce your tyre pressures a few more PSI then try again"

      @4wdguydrivesby 4 года назад +12

@@Francois_Dupont I can't think of a nicer way to say this, you're just wrong. Airing down the tyres reduces the surface pressure exerted on the sand and stops the tyre from sinking in and becoming a sand-anchor.
Airing down all tyres is EXACTLY what they should do in soft sand.
